3 amigos is a really great choice for Mexican food in Elizabeth city. Our most recent visit was extremely good. The wait staff was attentive, the food was delicious, and overall the restaurant was clean and tidy. The chimichangas my daughter ordered were amazing and I definitely want to get that next time we go.

As the saying goes, don't judge a book (restaurant) by its cover (size). My wife and I stopped in Elizabeth City for a few days on our way to Topsail island. We decided on 3 Amigos for dinner. It's a good size restaurant so I was expecting mid level Mexican. WRONG! The parking lot was packed and we were seated as we walked in. The atmosphere is comfortable and not over the top. The staff were friendly and attentive even the guys cooking said hi. Okay, okay the food was authentic! They brought out the chips and two salsas. The red was good (but, I do enjoy a bit more picante) and then they had a blanco that seemed like a spicy ranch blend (different) but enjoyable. Chips were nice although we did salt them and they could have been warm (just me). I had to try the pork carnitas and they didn't NOT disappoint. The flavor was spot on. That delicious roasted pork with its mild spices and a hint of sweet. Served with the salad rice and well seasoned refried beans. My wife went for the Birria tacos! Bam! Again the flavor we spot on. From the tenderness of the beef to the onion /cilantro garnish and let's not forget that consommé broth. The flavor hit perfectly. A few things for me that would send 3 Amigos over the top. A nice green salsa (I like the spice) warm tortilla chips always hit better. Roasted jalapeños or (my favorite) Serranos. This is a solid 4.5 The reviews didn't disappoint! FYI we returned two days later and did it again! Enjoy

A popular Mexican restaurant amongst locals in Elizabeth City, NC, however, if you have traveled around the world, you are not missing much. The 3 Amigos restaurant is not revolutionizing anything. You get the chips and salsa, the reheated food, and the typical drinks. If you are from the area, it is probably the place to go. Mainly due to location and availability in the Elizabeth City, NC area. However, if you have traveled the world and have had REAL authentic Mexican food, then this place is not all that great. The dessert is absolutely amazing though! The prices are really affordable, the parking lot is plentiful, and the décor is beautiful. Where this place stands out is the service. It is a great place for a date, hanging out with friends, and/or a quick bite to eat. My girlfriend and I were fortunate to have a waitress that was simply phenomenal. The waitress and the desserts are the only reason why this place received 4 star rating. In short, this is not a bad place, it just is not as good as GOOD Mexican food.

Went for a late lunch, parking lot was pretty quiet from the usual because it was 2:00. We were seated right away and the waiter brought over a basket of chips and salsa. The menu was big and had a large amount of things to choose from. We ordered the cheese dip (Queso) and more chips. Our lunch came out fast. I ordered the chicken fajitas they didn't have much flavor, it lacked spices, served with rice. Others had fish tacos, he enjoyed them. Chicken quesadillas were very good, lots of chicken and served with sour cream on the side. Overall it was good but not sure we'll go back, lots of others to try.

By chance we were in E-City yesterday so we decided to visit our favorite restaurant in the area only to find out things have changed in the last few years. The service was the same (great) and the decor had been updated with tasteful art. The only bad changes were sadly the most important part- the food! We ordered some street tacos and asked for radishes only to be told they don't come with them (they previously had, and were something that lent authenticity to the food). The salsas that came with the tacos were also different, and not in the good way; mostly bland with a little spice- not at all how they were previously. Lastly, my son ordered his favorite cheese steak fries appetizer and we were surprised to find that the portion size had been drastically reduced. Ultimately I know that restaurant business is tough and some cost control measures have likely taken place here- but the quality of the food shouldn't dip because of that. We loved La Tiendita but after yesterday we won't be stopping by again.

The building could use some improvements but it is nice and cozy. The menu compared to authentic Mexican restaurants is very different. Especially if you're from the southwest border or Hispanic. We have come here a couple times in the last couple years and it is okay. Not very flavorful and a bit bland. Large portions if you love rice and beans and salt and pepper. As for the tacos it was our first time coming here for that on taco Tuesday. We wanted to try their $1 tacos. And I must say you get what you pay for LOL It is like a taco out of a box and if you enjoy that for a $1 with no flavor come here. However you will not find flavor or options here. We ordered 12 tacos. All that was available was ground beef and shredded chicken. And it was just that with some bland cheese and lettuce on cold tortillas. So, if you're looking for authentic tacos this is not the place to explore. But if your looking for below basic and have no expectations, enjoy some salt and pepper, and saving money it's worth a shot. We were able to give our leftovers to a homeless person in the area and we then went to plaza azteca to enjoy authentic tacos for taco Tuesday.

I started off with a Luz and Sombra margarita which tasted like Band Aids, very unpleasant. The chips and salsa were disappointing. The chips were stale and the salsa was made with canned tomatoes, nothing fresh or lively tasting, no spice level to speak of. I tried the pork tacos al pastor, more like pork fat tacos, greasy and awful mouth feel. I asked for the spicy tomatillo salsa, which came out red (!). When asked why the tomatillo salsa was red, the runner explained it was because they make it with chile de arbol. Huh? Chile Serrano goes in tomatillo salsa. I ordered the Texas nachos. There was plenty of well-seasoned and well-prepared protein. Then, the stale chips with an insipid cheese sauce, gooey and tasteless. No sour cream, no guacamole, no pickled jalapeños on the plate. I would have preferred to pay the same amount for half the portion if it came with quality toppings. I don't think anyone who works in the kitchen knows what Mexican food should taste like. The restaurant was pretty, otherwise, it was an entirely unsatisfactory experience. They received two stars because the server did the best he could. I won't go back.
