I can't speak to all items on their menu, but the chicken soup is amazing. It is so flavorful and I get it every time I go here. The bowl is two meals for me. One half for lunch and then the rest for dinner. If you dine in, the in-house chips and salsa are freely put on the table. I crunch them up and put them in the soup. Basically, making it into tortilla soup. The wait staff are all very attentive and pleasant. The prices are reasonable and portions are generous. If you are looking for a hearty, flavorful soup, you will not be disappointed. read more

Made a stop at this restaurant for lunch while we were in our way to outer banks. Nice traditional Mexican restaurant,the decor was beautiful done and gives a feel of being in Mexico. We ordered Vegetable fajitas and chicken enchiladas. While we waited for the food,the complimentary fresh chips and salsa made our wait pass by unnoticeable. The food was brought out in a fairly short time. Both the dishes were amazing and the portion size was huge. Service was friendly and prices were very reasonable. Let's start with walking in. They were quick to seat me and bring some chips and salsa. Chips were average, but salsa was tasty. Service was quick, and food came out fast. I did lunch number 1. Prices were more than reasonable. Lunch number 1 was Chili Relano, taco, and guacamole salad. Chili Relano was okay. Taco was also OK. Guacamole was very tasty. Went there for lunch , ordered Shrimp lunch fajitas,it was horrible,the veggies were old /burnt so bad you couldn't it . The shrimp were so old it was like chewing gum .The beans were liquid and and had no taste. Don't waste your money here the colorless food was inedible. read more

Service was fast and friendly. Prices were fair. Drinks were large. I'm talking...German Oktoberfest sized beers and margaritas as big as your head! The food we had was very good. Seems to have a large local crowd that comes back. This place has a huge menu and I'd like to try more things. Have driven past it for years and never stopped in, but figured if it has lasted so long it must be good, and it was. Only issue is the server spoke very little English. You could order by number, but you couldn't ask him "do you prefer the carne asada or the chipolte shrimp?" LOL Ahh, well, it was good and he was very friendly. Portions for some of the items we saw at other tables looked huge. Big piles of meat on top of tacos. Free chips and salsa. I asked for the spicy salsa which was very flavorful. read more

The only thing I was disappointed about, was the fact that they don't have the infamous East Coast white sauce/dip that is known so well in this region. I hope they add that to their menu. I've been going here for years, since they first opened and it's such a staple restaurant here in Moyock. The owners are so nice, always telling us they'll see us tomorrow! And for some locals, that's actually true. The food is authentic, cheap, and comes out quickly. They have drink specials as well as an extensive menu. Queso is on point too! read more

First time in North Carolina and found this little hidden gem. Coming from Southern California, Mexican restaurant's are everywhere. However here not many options except for El Potrillo, I have to say I was very impressed on the quality of food and the taste. I loved their fresh chips and salsa along with the enchiladas I ordered. I am a weekend local in Moyock, NC and my boyfriend and I decided to eat here. Living mainly in Virginia Beach we have been spoiled with a plethora of options for cheap Mexican eats. To start off he has a plain palette and Mexican has always been an easy choice for us. To start off with the Decor, it's a smaller resturaunt and when we were there it was around 9 ( they closed at 10:30) so the place was not busy. A group of women sat in a booth sharing margaritas and then it was the two of us. For some reason the sat is right next to the kitchen which was weird for my taste but we got comfortable. The waiter came to take our drinks and I ordered a water with lemon, while my boyfriend had sweet tea. This is where the stars go down, first and foremost I have never had water taste so bad! The after taste of the water was almost sickening. The tea was not the best either but I shook it off and ordered a soda instead. The soda was flat and it also had a metallic almost moldy after taste. Our food was already ordered so we stayed and worked our way thru the drink situation by just avoid drinks. (This was not fun, because I love spicy!) The chips were fresh and warm which was a plus I did enjoy that, but the salsa and "white sauce" (the spicy ranch) were both uncomfortably warm though so I wasn't too excited about that. I ordered something simple: a beef burrito, chicken enchilada with rice and beans. My boyfriend had the chicken tacos which was literally 3 tacos cheese and lettuce . He said his tacos were nothing special and lacked any flavor, while my burrito was in the same boat. The chicken enchilada was horrendous thought. I couldn't even finish it! The sauce was awful and wrongfully tangy. The chicken was dry and over cooked, and the tortilla was disgusting. The waitstaff was nice, hints the stars. It was awkward having the owner tell us business is slow because no one has money in this town as we tried to eat chips, but the servers were quick and so was the food. I am surprised I did not get sick off the food to be honest. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to friends and we plan on checking out some of the other Mexican joints around the area. We are okay with driving to avoid having to drink those moldy tasting drinks again. read more

One of a few gems in Moyock. Working here, I've found that there are few options for food, but despite it's modest look, I have been repeatedly impressed with this one. The service is always fast and friendly. The menu offers a variety, and even some options for non-Mexican lovers. The food reminds me of that I can get from mom & pop shops in Arizona, which is a pleasant surprise for the east coast. A favorite amongst friends is lunch special #14: Nacho supreme. It has both beef and chicken and is loaded with cheese and all the good stuff. The prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes will leave you stuffed, but satisfied. I highly recommend stopping in and grabbing a bite if you're in the area. If you're passing through on the way to OBX, it's worth pulling over and supporting a local restaraunt and skipping the drive thru window. read more

It is a nice and casual place. It does have a small bar area for those who do not want to sit at a table or booth. The service is quick, the servers are polite and the food is Delicious!
