THREE TIMES IN... AND BARLEY'S IS ON POINT AGAIN. SOLD! Let me tell you about the pizza nightmare we've experienced over the last four years of living in a small town. I would have taken a picture but we ate it all! We consider ourselves pizza aficionados (yes, we have standards). We like a good sauce, not an obscene amount of cheese, and a crust that can actually fold when you need it to--but also one that, when you hold it by the crust, doesn't droop like an old man's eyelid. Over the past four years, we've tried our fair share of pizza places in Elizabeth City where we live and every one seems to have had something that just didn't work for us. Too much cheese. Wrong sauce. Soggy crust. You name it. Just YUCK! Now, we aren't the people who bash restaurants or leave negative reviews just because something wasn't our cup of tea. If we're going to take the time to say something, it's because it's GOOD--and, more importantly, CONSISTENT. And Barley's? Three visits in, and they've delivered every single time. The wings deserve a shout-out too! These aren't those weakling, baby-chick wings that leave you wondering where the actual chicken went. They've got some meat on them, and the hot flavor has just the right kick. Now, you're not going to Barley's for fancy ambiance--and honestly, that's perfectly fine with us. We like our house. We pick up our food, put on the game, and eat exactly where we want. So, without a doubt, we are officially happy to report: WE LOVE BARLEY'S. And to all the other pizza guys out there... You might want to keep an eye on this one. Barley's is a silent gem, and word is definitely getting out. read more

If I was just grading the flavor of the Stromboli - it would have been a 4.5. Right amount cheese, meat and sauce for the $16 price. The lower rating is for multiple other factors. Starting with the long wait for the delivery - Ordered at 5:35 and received the order at 7:09p. I would understand if it was a busy Fri or Sat night but it's 5:30 on a Wednesday. Then the cheese bread would have been ok but Wow was there a lot of grease in that box (check pics). Then when I went to dip into the marinara - it was ice cold. I ordered a side of ranch but since they sent it in the box w/ the bread & was Luke warm. Just not a good mix. I would give them a try again because of the flavor of the sauce and taste of the Stromboli but next time might dine in. read more

Visiting from out of town. Ordered the Greek pizza. It was ready on time and it was very very good!!

Went here as a family one afternoon after a soccer game. We went because we heard so many people speak so highly of it. And I wanted a Philly cheese steak and my husband and kids wanted pizza. Luckily this place had both so we stopped. The philly wasn't exactly what I had hoped it would be but the pizza was pretty good. The service was okay, but we waited a good bit of time. They were busy so I'm overlooking that for the most part. The dining area was overall pretty disheveled and seemingly kind of dirty. We only went the one time and as a whole the entire family said it was just okay. read more

Barleys was our go-to family restaurant for many years- until yesterday 8/2/2026. 6 people in our party ordered. Saw a HUGE cockroach wandering by -I know the difference between a cockroach and a waterbug- , mentioned it to a waitress. No food after waiting 40 minutes. Went up to the counter to inquire. The excuse was some sort of miscommunication between waitress and kitchen. The food, when it finally came, was tasty and of high quality. I endorsed Barleys to our visiting guests. I felt humiliated by staff's failure. I believe that the GIANT COCKROACH wandering around 3 feet away was the only critter in that place aware of what was going on. I did tip $25 for 4 adults/2 children because I'm not an asshole. I could have tipped nothing to express my displeasure. In conclusion... this dining experience ranks in my top 3 WORST fiascos in my 71 years in countless eateries in multiple countries on this planet. We won't be back. Biggest cockroach I've seen in years. read more

Stopped here for $6.99 lunch special after getting Camry serviced at Hall Toyota. Had the two slices/ side salad . You get to order one topping but has to be same on both slices. The crust is so light and airy . It has great "toothy" mouth feel. The cheese is stretchy . I had the Italian sausage on mine. Delicious. They have Ken's salad dressing packs. Love the bleu cheese. The salad was crisp and refreshing. Iceberg lettuce, grape tomatoes, red onion slivers, couple croutons and cheddar shreds. Service is great! The ladies are always cheerful and very informative of their menu offerings . The owner served us today and he was very busy in kitchen and covered for one of the early waitresses. Great guy. Very amiable. We usually hit here once a month for lunch. Regular menu items we have had during other visits have been Stromboli, Calzone, Lasagna, Liver & onions with mashed and gravy( awesome) . They have menu items to cover just about everyone. See you next month! read more

I have always enjoyed the food here. I always get a stuffed pizza, appetizer, cheese bread, and a piece of carrot cake, NY cheesecake, and the chocolate cake. It's usually very good and the service is good. This last time the cake I got wasn't good at all. The carrot cake had blobs of flavor and the chocolate cake was dry and wasn't a purchase I was proud of. Hopefully, whatever the hiccup was this time will be resolved quickly and I can get back to placing my usual large order. Our pizza was spicy, which was something I'm not interested in. This hasn't happened before. Hopefully the kitchen issues will resolve soon, whatever might be going on. read more

One of Elizabeth cities hidden treasures. From pizza and other Italian foods plus classics like hamburger steak and open faced roast beef. They deliver a quality large portion, modest price meal every time. With a smile. read more

Worst customer service in the city. Ordered our food for delivery at 6pm last Friday nite. Order had not arrived by 730, called the restaurant and was told the order was on the way. Called back about 9pm was told the machine for orders was down and the order was never sent. They said they would sent it. At 1015 pm we finally received the order. We told them we didn't feel we should have to pay since it was 4 hours late. The delivery driver did not speak English and put the owner on the phone. The owner stated we needed to pay full price for the order or they would call the police. Insanity. I will tell everyone I know not to frequent this restaurant. I hope it closes soon. Unacceptable. Disgusting. Rude. Deplorable. read more

Weird parking lot. Use to be a bk. They changed the menu. Its a lot smaller now. No hot subs. They have french fries that are very tasty. Pizza size is good. Taste is average for a cheese and pepperoni. Over all its not bad. read more

1st time coming here, the serving size is huge for a very reasonable price. We drove 30 minutes from home to try it out and it was worth every penny! read more

The tuna salad club with waffle fries is an excellent choice. I added pickles to mine, the tuna salad is simple with mayo and spices. In the picture, you can see half a sandwich the other half is underneath the fries. Come hungry because this will fill you up. Cheers! read more

There squid tasted really rubbery, didn't like it, but the pizza and service, PERFECTINO!!!

I've been meaning to come in for a while especially for the garlic knots and finally made it. Omg, I could have just eaten those and been satisfied. The price and the quantity is amazing. We also got a bacon cheeseburger pizza which was divine. The staff was nice, service was quick, the room was relaxed and cozy, and I will definitely return with the rest of the crew to try more of the menu. My 5 year old went crazy on the knots! read more

Nice enough little diner. Sunday afternoon was a bit busy, but we were sat quickly, It did take a while for the waitress to take our order, but the food came out pretty quick. I ordered the Lamb & Beef Gyro, and my husband had the Flounder Sub. Both of them were good, but the flounder was by far the clear winner of the two. It was tasty, and if you like to share a plate, the 12" sub is definitely big enough for two! read more

Service was very good. The young lady was attentive to our table and made rounds regularly. No complaints. Regarding my pizza and being from the heart of pizzaland in NYC, I'm pretty tough on rating. Mine was all around pretty good as far as flavor and ingredients. I give mine a 6.5 of 10. read more

Great food and food service- loved the cheesy bread! Will definitely order from them again.

We order from Barley Pizza a couple of times a week. Delivery or pickup. The food is good. Have our certain cravings, but I like to try new things and have tried several of the menu selections. My go-to is their fish and seafood. Husbands is the pizza. I would definitely recommend read more

We picked up the party pizza, pepperoni. Very basic, but great pizza for the cost! Customer service was on par!

Large portions food of food. The Alfredo has no flavor but the shrimp is cooked nicely. The Alfredo sauce is made with cream and is good we just had to add a ton of garlic and oregano. They added a ton of cheese on the Alfredo which wasn't necessary, parmesan would've been better and gave it the salt it needed. The red sauce is good and not sweet like most places. The side bread you get is flavored the best with seasoning just not toasted very much. I wouldn't recommend the calamari at all. It was so chewy and the tentacles of the squid were like leather. Lesson learned but I would go back. read more

Great food, great value, great service. Best pizza in town! Have always gotten takeout and never had my order been wrong. read more

We ordered a supreme pizza from this place. Picked it up, came home, opened the box and there was literally POTTING SOIL from the veggies all over the pizza. CLUMPS of potting soul. We have, and never will, eat here again. Also, the owner and employees are fond of arguing about bad experiences online, rather than apologize and improve from critiques. Avoid at all cost. read more

The pizza is the best around . I had the supreme and it was delicious. The crust is done perfectly. Their gyros are the best I've had in years . You can't go wrong eating at Barley's. We needed a really good restaurant like this . Fast service . read more

Great restaurant with wonderful food and customer service. Cheyanne our waitress was exceptional! Definitely recommend!

I've been here twice and think this place is pretty good. The pizza isn't New York by any means but makes up for it in flavor. The tomato sauce is nice and flavorful with the Italian seasoning in it. The first time I savored their small Greek pizza with jalapenos. The fresh veggies were a delightful addition. There isn't any meat on it but I can yell you won't miss it. Second visit I shared a party pizza (24 slices) with my family. I also got an order of garlic knots for myself, but later ended up sharing :) I will be returning. read more

Ok first visit today: Used to be the old Burger King, but not much evidence of that inside the restaurant, which is good. We ordered the chicken calzone and chicken parm sub. Huge calzone for the price! Freshly made, but flavor was ok. Wasn't savory, rich, or flavorful. Just ok. You have to dip it in the marinara sauce it comes with. Should add a tad bit more Italian seasoning, a bit of fresh basil will go a long way. Also, put just a little shredded smoked Gouda or Swiss and it'll give that chicken calzone that flavorful "umph". Will make that flavor pop. Huge menu, but will have to give it three stars for what we ordered and for overall grading- but it was also pretty clean inside. read more

I walked in the front door to find old school charm in the building. I looked around and noticed alot of the clientele were the older crowd. This is always a red flag because usually they come for the low price specials and not necessarily the quality of food. I ordered the 2 1 topping slices with a salad special. The salad was just ok, all iceberg lettuce with the standard 2 cherry tomatoes and slice of cucumber. More variety in the lettuce, and some cheese and crackers would of made it better. When the 2 slices came out they were actually 4 slices so not sure why they call it a 2 slice special. The pizza was definitely the star. Chewy crust but yet not the least bit soggy,. The tomato sauce was tangy with a great flavor. I would come back again for the pizza slices alone, probably skip the salad next time. read more

Great hot food delivered fast! Had the stuffed shells and baked ziti. No jar sauce here! Great prices and friendly staff!

Love their calzones, pizza, and garlic knots. Easy and quick drive through makes it so convenient to get your food quick and hot!

Ordered three pizzas for pickup. All three tasted like frozen pizzas from a grocery store. The Mediterranean pizza was supposed to have green peppers on it but it did not. Very few pieces of spinach. Toppings were almost nonexistent. Barley's pizza two years ago was excellent but today's pizza is horrible. We will not be ordering from them anymore. read more

This is one of our favorite places to grab take out. Huge menu with reasonable prices. The food is always good!

Huge portions for a small price! I am in love with their Italian calzone. Their subs and entree meals are awesome too. I probably shouldn't have started this review hungry because now I'm considering ordering here again. COA faculty and staff get a discount. We have a hard time keeping great restaurants around here, let's show our support by loosening our belts and ordering their delicious pizzas. read more

Really good pizza, really good wings, no upcharge on extra ranch, and good service. Was in town to see my grandma and we really wanted pizza. Heard this place was all the rage. Decided to swing by and check it out; they were right. We got the cheese plus custom toppings; spinach and steak, all of which was cooked just right. There weren't too many wings but they weren't expensive and they were damn big for the small order. The waitress was good and drinks stayed filled. My only complaint is the restaurant is dead quiet; there's no music at all.... To be honest, it's kind of subjective (I'm sure some people like the dead quiet, only-the-sound-of-voices jazz, but I thought it could have used at the very least, some elevator music lol). That's really the only thing taking these guys away from a 5 star; too bad yelp doesn't allow 4.5 stars, eh? ;) Definitely worth grabbing a za and wings with the family. read more

If you don't mind eating your meal with another costumer nearby with a dog, than this restaurant is for you, bring your dog, he's welcome. The woman with the dog said her dog was a "therapy dog", but the dog had not vest on stating so. I don't have a problem with a dog in many places, but a restaurant has crossed the line for me. If you feel you need to bring your dog into every establishment, than you need more than a therapy dog, you need professional help of the human kind. I love dogs, I have dogs, I do volunteer work at the shelter. But my dog stays at home when I go out to eat out of consideration of other people. I can't believe Barley's put one customer over all the others in their restaurant. I have been to Barley's many times and have always enjoyed their food and friendly staff. If it weren't for the dog, I could have given them more stars. read more
