Could not get anybody to come out of the kitchen to seat us at a table, there was another guy in front of us who was there even longer. Never got sat at the table, I called to tell them. I even opened the kitchen door and nobody would listen to me when I told them they had people waiting And they acted like I was lying. She said nobody was here even though I just left. Actually argued with me about it told me I had called the wrong restaurant, which I most definitely did not. Update ‐ i was contacted by them and Apparently it was only 3 or 4 minutes (the second time I came to the line I guess) according to the video. I guess they had no proof of the several minutes I was in the restroom and then the time it took my husband to go out and move the car and come back in to me waiting. Also the woman on the phone basically told me I called the wrong restaurant which I did not. I was and do not want a free meal that is not what this review about. The restaurant was dead. There is no excuse for us or the gentleman that was in front of us to wait when I literally opened the restaurant kitchen door and they were looking in my direction. You know I dont work there when you saw me staring in so there should of been SOMEONE come out. Even if I was told sorry we are short handed be right there. I would of been super ok with that. My kids and I have been trying all the local eats in E.C. while my husband has been deployed. And now that he's back we've been taking him all over. This past weekend we went to Proof and it was delicious. The wait staff was super attentive, the entire restaurant was clean, tidy, cozy. My only complaint was that the complimentary bread we always get was super hard and burned. It is usually the highlight of the meal but this go round it was sort of a let down. read more

This is the best restaurant in northeastern NC, and the only one that could be stuck amongst 5-star diners in a major city. The chef makes all the pasta, breads, and sauces in house and each seasonal menu has a theme. My favorite so far was the poetry-themed menu of last winter. Also, I've never passed up dessert here since the cannolis are to die for. Despite the elite quality, the prices are still very reasonable and the service feels like a local family-run diner. On top of all that, it's in a lovely blue building right alongside the water. read more

Excellent service. Gabe great recommendations on drinks,food and a realistic expectation for food that is made to order so we wouldn't get frustrated with a wait. The food was GREAT which was surprising! Because quite a few restaurants in Elizabeth City have been a flop. We had the Calamari, The Raven and The City in the Sea. On another occasion we had The Ivory for takeout. Everything has been excellent thus far. The homemade pasta definitely was on point. The waitress and staff were friendly and excellent sources of information for food choices. The restaurant sits nicely on the water which makes a good atmosphere for dining. Have eaten here a couple of times. Great setting on the water (weather wasn't great for outside seating but we occupied a window table). Atmosphere was fun and friendly and staff were accommodating, proficient and cheerful. Food was all awesome. We had a couple different custom pizzas and LOVED the crust; wonderful bread; fresh homemade pastas and fresh vegetables and seafood. You can tell ingredients are locally sourced. Restaurant was slammed and hostess overwhelmed due to marathon weekend. No tables available. So we got a delicious margarita pizza for take out. Toppings were fresh and crust cooked perfectly. Tiramisu is fluffy and drizzled with caramel and chocolate. Can't go wrong. read more

First time here with another couple who's been many times. Loved it! It is VERY loud because if the bare floor and open and airy concept, but you just have to expect that going in. Reservations highly recommended! I made ours 4 weeks ahead and could only get the 5PM time slot on this particular Saturday. Which was actually a great thing! Everything is made fresh (including breads, pasta, and pizza crust), so the meal took about 2.5 hours. Timing between courses was excellent, and we neither waited too long nor had a table full of dishes. Come with an appetite! We shared two apps, then a LARGE salad came with each entree, and full basket of breadsticks. The menu is unique and creative, and our wonderful server Donna did a fantastic job of explaining everything. Highly recommend for a date night! read more

Best upscale bang for your buck, HANDS DOWN! The staff is super friendly and they work cohesively. Great drinks and the food is Breadsticks were so dank, and those meatballs.... How you Dooooin'! The lettuce they used for the salads, so fresh. We both got renditions of the chicken park and both were really good, but we though the chicken could've been a bit more tender. The cannolis are a MUST, I mean look at them. A restaurant on the river with gorgeous sunset views. Couldn't ask for more. read more

I was sat at a table by the hostess and she got me a water. 15 minutes go by and she came back asking if I wanted a drink, appetizer or if I was ready to order. I placed my order. 25 minutes go by and I ask the hostess if I'm getting a waitress. She said she's busy juggling several tables. Restaurant was roughly 30% full. 45 minutes go by and I ask the hostess again, if I'm getting a waitress. She said that she's essentially my waitress now because they're busy. At 50 minutes received bread. At an hour received my dinner, I was alone. Never meeting a waitress was a first. 50 minutes for bread. The meal was pretty good, but the service was such a disappointment. If the restaurant was full, or a party of 6 or more that's one thing. But sitting alone and the restaurant maybe at 30% capacity? We went to lunch on Thursday afternoon. A small group of ladies in the private room and we had the waterfront area to ourselves. If you notice in the pizza photo the water splashing over the wall. The wind was whipping yet it was peaceful inside. The food was exactly what we were hoping for and the service was even better. I stop in Paradiso from time to time and it's a decent experience. We started with a Chianti wine and fried Brussels sprouts. Both were okay. I ordered a make your own pasta (my error with the selection) but it didn't feel flavorful. I got a side salad (their dressings are homemade and the balsamic vinaigrette is my fav!). I want to come back when they have the full menu, as quite a few items were missing. In general, it's a welcoming restaurant to grab a drink and relax. The menu options were plentiful, the portions were a good size, the food presentation was impressive but not too over the top fancy, and the atmosphere was probably the best in Elizabeth City. The service was great as well. As far as Italian food goes, this place stands up against any other Italian restaurant I've been to in North Carolina. I struggled writing this review because I WANT to love Paradisio's-I really do. The past few visits has just been so underwhelming that I felt like 3 stars was generous. The first thing that is consistently irksome is how loud it is in the dining area. This is not the restaurant you want to visit on a date where you would like to actually have a conversation. There were 5-6 other tables seated around us and my bf and I had to semi-shout to each other; sound seems to just reverberate. We asked to be moved outside to the patio and were told that we couldn't because of the waves/wind-which is totally understandable; they obviously can't control the weather, it's just something to keep in mind. The food: with a two sodas, app and two entrees coming in at around $70 it was the okay-est meal I've had in a while. Nothing was BAD per se but nothing was mind blowing. I had enough of my seafood pasta left over to take home and I elected not to get it boxed up because I knew it would just join the takeout container graveyard in the back of my fridge until it got tossed. Service was also something that needed some work. I saw two bussers running drinks, etc. but only one person actively waiting tables which is a lot when there are 7 tables seated. I needed salt and pepper and after I got my food I waited another 10 minutes before our waitress came back around to ask if we needed anything. Our waitress was clearly slammed and I get that but it was a little frustrating to sit for that long. An app and two entrees, no dessert took just over an hour. I feel like there are better options in EC for a sit down dinner at a similar price point. The view is beautiful and I think there's a lot of potential for Paradisio to be great but it just...wasn't. read more

I wanted to have a great experience but mediocre is my overall description of Paradiso Roma Ristorante. My favorite of the evening was the Caesar salad. The greens were fresh, the dressing fabulous, and topped with real crumbled bleu cheese. On my top 5 list. My husbands scallops were over cooked and were replaced without hesitation and with apologies. The meatballs are very good. The sauces were pretty good but lacking so the predominate taste was the pasta. Portion sizes were perfect - nothing left to take home. We chose to dine outside with a nice view and a cool breeze. Our service itself was lacking especially considering there with only a few tables occupied. I would give this place a 2nd chance but try alternate options - except for the Caesar salad - that's the one item worth repeating. read more

One Sunday while my dad was visiting we met my brother and his family halfway between James City and ECity for lunch. Most of the EC restaurants I had bookmarked were closed so we settled for this location based on reviews and availability. Once settled in we tried to order some appetizers only to be told 3 of them weren't a available (crab cakes, mozz sticks and anything made with fresh mozz). The waitress told us the owners were out of town and they were the only ones who ordered supplies and ingredients. My brother is somewhat picky and he basically got a pepperoni pizza that he wasn't impressed with. I also had a pepperoni pizza and added al a carte toppings. Mine was pretty good. What I really loved was the dessert. I can't recall the name but it was chocolate covered ice cream. The strawberry was delectable but the pistachio was forgettable. This may be the one and only visit for us. It just wasn't anything spectacular. read more

Can't sing enough praises for this gem. Drove over the bridge from OBX to buy a grill (we're sold out of everything) and tried this place per the great reviews. Having lived outside of DC for many years, we're pretty picky when it comes to great Italian. We absolutely were not disappointed! By far the best tiramisu we have ever had and we've had a lot. The skillet lasagna is drool worthy as was the skillet of meatballs my husband got to go with his strawberry goat cheese salad. Even the basket of bread was all that and 10 bags of chips! To all our OBX friends --- stop being afraid to drive over that darn bridge and try something new! This place is so worth the drive. Spot on with the collards fried. And the fried Ravioli appetizer should be a meal. Wife got the blackened shrimp fettuccine and you can absolutely tell the pasta is house made. This place is pure magic. Easily the best pizza we've ever had - up to par with pizza straight from Italy. You can taste the difference in the pasta that is freshly made every morning. And it's so awesome that all ingredients are locally sourced! The service is polite and consistent - the owner came over twice during our meal to check up on us and make sure we were being taken care of. The cocktails were phenomenal. And seriously the pizza.
