My tip for ordering here is to consider sharing the smoothie bowls since they are so large and filling. This was a great breakfast to fuel a day full of hiking, and I would recommend Coco Plum place.

Most of the ladies who work there do not speak English just like in Miami, but there is always one who speaks a little English and if you can speak a little Espanol and point to what you want, you will get what you came there for. Our server was friendly and helped us get our favorite guava pastries. Their prices are very reasonable here. They were fresh baked and smelled so good! They also have Cuban coffee, iced and hot. They make delicious cakes and donuts. And the favorite there is the Cuban Sandwich, which is generously filled with ham, shredded pork, pickle, cheese and crusty bread. They also have pastelitos and croquettas. Parking is right in front of the super cute casa restaurant. There is outdoor dining and a few tables inside also. They have a drive-in also. It reminded us of that episode of Dexter where he's helping a friend who is dying and she wants to find the best key lime pie. That was kind of the energy we had going into it, just looking for the experience. I also picked up some white chocolate covered cherries but we haven't gotten to those yet. The cortado is my go to with a coffee to go and I love the banana bread. Don't forget about the roaster that is about 20 steps before the shop that sells coffee beans and merch. Overall this is my favorite place on the upper keys for a later breakfast or anytime for a coffee!

The lady taking our order was very patient, and carefully packaged everything up securely for the drive home. We ordered white rice, black beans, boiled yuca with mojo sauce, and sweet plantains, and everything was delicious. The rice had more flavor than your typical white rice, the beans and yuca were seasoned perfectly, and the plantains were just bliss. Although we were hungry we still had leftovers for the following day, and after tip the total was $23. For affordable, authentic, delicious Cuban food you can't go much more right than Sunrise.
