There aren't many coffee shop options in Saxapahaw, thankfully, there is a really, *really* lovely one - with great views - that's surrounded by a handful of restaurants, a hiking trail, and retail shops. During my long weekend at Cup 22, we dropped in at least three times for morning coffee and pastries, and we also checked it out for a live concert one evening. There's plenty of parking, outside seating, wifi, pastries... The early gray pastries are where it's at! Because this town is small and lives life at a slower pace, don't be in a hurry, as each time we visited there was only one person working. read more

Has hands down taking the spot for my favorite vanilla late! I wish I got pictures of building this shop is located in, because it's awesome! The nicest staff, the cutest building and like i said the BEST vanilla latte! You know it's going to be good when the barista says "our large has 4 shots instead of 3, if that's okay?!" Can honestly say I will be going out of my way just to try this place again! Also while there, i saw they offer live music (assuming on the huge stage they have inside the building) and picked up a flyer to research local bands and come back one weekend to hear some play! I chose to come here after seeing an ad for this coffeehouse in the Our State Magazine. I loved everything about this business. Friendly staff. Clean environment. Great tasting coffee and scone. This coffee house offers seating inside and outside. If I had anything negative to say it would be a barista was not quick to offer. Suggestions when prompted. We were pointed to the menu. But that wasn't a big issue for me. We happily placed our order. I just wish this was a little closer to my hometown. I would highly recommend this business. read more

I think the standout part of this cafe is the amazing ambiance it brings to its customers! The place is decorated very tastefully and it's perfect for studying. Went here today after a hike as my 11 year old wanted a treat. She got the peanut butter brownie. I got the earl grey chocolate chip cookie. My cookie was as hard as a brick. I took one bite and spit it out. My husband tried it and he said it tasted like it had been sitting out for a week. I ended up throwing the entire thing away. My daughter's brownie was better but it was salty. I didn't try to coffee. I am not a coffee drinker and maybe the coffee is great. I would not purchased baked goods here again. It was also a bit irritated we needed to wear a mask to go in. There was a sign that said only CDC masks allowed. Ironically, the CDC is currently not requiring masks. So my 11 year old had to put on a dirty mask that was on the floor of our car as we forgot them seeing as we had gone out there thinking we'd just hike. We were in and out in under 5 minutes so it was annoying. read more

I really like the aesthetic in this place. There's lots of exposed brick, the ceilings are really high, and there are exposed beams at the ceiling as well. Additionally there is a ton of natural light on both levels coming through the doors to the patio on the first level or through the large windows on the second level. I also appreciate that there is lots of seating both indoor and outdoor and a mixture of hard and comfy seating. The coffee is pretty good (I ordered a mocha) and the employee was nice. They have Wi-Fi if you're looking for a place to get some work done. Also I don't know who curated the play list but one of my favorite songs came on while I was working. I think I'll be back at this place for sure. The reason I didn't give it five stars is because I was hoping to have a pastry with my coffee and they didn't have any pastries. read more

Beautiful coffee shop with two levels in old mill that overlooks a ballroom. Cute little hassocks that appear handmade from coffee sacks! Wonderful deck outside overlooking Saxapahaw with lots of seating. Oh, am I forgetting something? Yes, the coffee - amazing!! Each cup made to order, so it takes a little bit, but well worth the wait. We tried the carrot cake and it was delicious, especially since it wasn't overloaded with frosting. I stumbled upon this gem of a stop yesterday driving thru saxapahaw to go see a friend. I stopped in the general store and decided to go back today to get coffee here. I had such a nice conversation with the friendly barista graham. The venue/ location is stunning. I ordered a large hot sugar free caramel latte with oat milk and it was top notch. I will definitely be back and have already told my husband, sisters and mom I want to take them all. It was a great way to start the day on a positive happy note. read more

Whomever was the mastermind behind the idea of having a café inside of a venue is an absolute genius. I'm not sure if this is normal anywhere else in the States to infuse its patrons with caffeine and alcohol during its evening shows but it's the most amazing, beautiful idea in the world. My boyfriend and I travelled into town and our first stop was this coffee shop overlooking the Haw River. I enjoyed the most delicious cup of hot cocoa on my first visit while I peeked down behind giant curtains. I could see from my location, being on the second floor and all, the upcoming show setting up I was scheduled to see that evening. The entire time I was in and around the café I had a huge grin. Moving on to the event I was scheduled to see at the Haw River Ballroom (keeper of this adorable café I had visited earlier) and to my frickin' amazement Cup 22 was wide open for business. I helped myself to a delicious Dirty Chai and my boyfriend had some kind of coffee drink with a gorgeous poured leaf inside. I have NEVER seen a leaf that beautiful in a coffee cup. Five Stars, all the way for a night of delicious coffee, tea, and music. read more

Hard to review really when its only the second day of opening, but this place looks really cool. It has a small coffee bar with espresso capabilities (of which I partook and thoroughly enjoyed). It sits above the Haw River Ballroom. You can see the stage and dance floor pretty well from the tables in the cafe and there is outside seating overlooking the Haw River, similar to the pub upstairs. Didn't see a section with pastries, etc. however they had a basic espresso menu and really good coffee (local from Joe Van Gogh's) and are in a really cool spot. read more

Showed up at 9:30 on a Saturday. No matter what we asked for, the answer was "we're out of that:" soy milk, almond milk, any baked goods without meat... No kidding. Lots of tasty things on the menu but the only things left had bacon or ham in them. I settled for a coffee and then walked 20 steps to the general store for something to eat, which is what I should have done in the first place. read more

If I didn't live down the street from Saxapahaw, I would still go to Cup 22. The fact that it's the coffee shop that's geographically closest to my house is kind of like Christmas. The coffee is delicious and the seating is ample and spacious. Make sure to check out the upstairs seating with huge windows that overlook the Haw River. On a nice day, you can sit outside on the patio. I work at coffee shops a lot and Cup 22 is one of my absolute favorites. I somehow feel both peaceful and productive when I'm there. I come to Cup 22 on a regular basis on Wednesday mornings to meet up with the local craft group. My favorite drink is the chocolate frappe. And I do find myself rather taken with the pretzel bagels that the bakery upstairs makes. Their cookies are always good, and I have yet had a bad piece of cake. The staff are nice, and it has a perfect small town coffee shop feel. There is wifi available and outlets. There is also an outside sitting area where you have a fantastic view of the Haw River and part of the Village of Saxapahaw. It's animal friendly and from time to time you will see ping pong games being played downstairs in the ballroom. The only thing that can cause issues is when it's crowded and there is only one restroom. But overall I look forward to my visits and the time I spend here. read more

I loved the coffee and snacks here. I got an oat milk vanilla latte, and it was perfect. My boyfriend got a chai latte with sweetened milk. He said he should have gotten it with regular milk because it tasted a bit artificial. We also shared a scone and a bagel. Both were delicious! Especially the scone. There was minimal food options left when we were there at 10:30am because it is first come, first serve for food. So make sure to get there early or go grab food elsewhere! read more

My favorite place for coffee in the area! it is so beautiful, and I can't believe it used to be an old mill. Their wifi is super fast and free, plus the staff doesn't seem to mind if you stay there for a little while. The coffee itself is some of the best you can get in the area. They make each cup individually, which can take a little while, but the staff is very friendly and professional. Their beans are from Joe Van Gogh. They skimp on products, e.g no whipped cream on frappes. One of the baristas is very rude. She sits at a table by the counter on her computer and acts like you are disturbing her when you ask for service. She is also rude in general. read more

A super trendy coffeehouse with breathtaking views of the river. My husband and I just moved to the area looking for a cute hangout and stumbled upon Cup 22. There's plenty of seats inside (upstairs and downstairs), but we decided to spend our time on the patio deck with stunning views. We both got a cappuccino which was delicious, and we also got a chocolate muffin, chocolate covered cookie, and the "vertically challenged" (shortbread cookie, love the name!). The treats were so simple but so tasty. We loved our experience here and can't wait to come back again. read more

I like this place. The coffee is acceptable, the space is amazing. The problem is that it is only variably open, and is willing to close to host an event. It's a 25 minute drive from Chapel Hill and it's just disrespectful to your customers to be open so variably that they feel stupid that they didn't call to check that a coffee shop is open all Thursday or Monday or whatever. They are clearly unconcerned with the customer. read more
