It is a bit of a squeeze getting in and out of here as it is next to a Target with a Loews across the street. They could also advise one of their employees who was cleaning that he doesn't need to stand over a table while people are trying to eat to talk to them endlessly about his fishing trips, how he casts, what king of bobbers and weights he uses, noodling catfish, where he used to live .... I'm not from the Midwest, but I do appreciate their approach to fast food. First of all, not too fast. Slow it down a bit. Take it easy. Second, beef. And butter. And cheese curds. That, to me, is a good mantra to live by. (Maybe not live that long if it's your DAILY mantra, but boy howdy you'd go out with tasty treats in your belly). I'd only been to Culver's once before this visit, but I had someone with me who had never been EVER, so we made it our dinner plan for a Wednesday night. The place wasn't too crowded, just a few people ahead of us, but it was busy. That's always a good sign. PROS: * The crinkle cut fries, which beyond being awesome for being crinkle cut, were perfectly seasoned and nice & hot when we got our orders. Solid. * The burger was flavorful, if not a bit small. Perhaps a double the next time? * The cashier was very helpful with the menu and trying to figure out the best way to order what I was going for and saving the most coin. He was very efficient with the entire process, really. * The orders were ready in much less time than expected. You hand me a number and a cup, and I think I'm in for at least 10 minutes, but I think it was done in about three. * Everything was super-clean about the place, inside and outside. CONS: * The sourdough butter-burger was pretty disappointing. The burger itself was fine, if not a bit small, but the bread had literally zero sourdough taste. That's a fast food trend I would love to see end. Either use real sourdough or just label it for what it really is. The mushroom Swiss burger was skimpy, with few mushrooms and not much cheese. I'd stick with the plain bugers, as they are tasty enough. The fries are okay. Better than Wendy's, not as greasy as BK, but no where near the standard set by McD's. The best part is that burgers are made to order and delivered to your table. Of couse, deserert makes the meal and I don't think there is a better fastfood desert than Culver's custard. Is it the best frozen custard anywhere? Of course not. I love Culver's more than a person probably should, and this is a perfectly fine location. That being said, I won't order burgers from this Culver's because they put the burger on upside down. I opened my cheeseburger and was a little confused when I saw: bun; dry part of burger patty; cheese; lettuce et. al.; and finally, bun. Now, I've had more than one Culver's burger in my lifetime; in fact, it was pretty much my salvation (and my fitting wardrobe's downfall) when I studied for the Illinois Bar. And with those other burgers, I've always received them in the following order: bun; cheese-on-top burger patty; dry part of burger patty; lettuce et.al.; and finally, bun. Even the picture on the box--e.g., if you order a Culver's double deluxe burger like the boyfriend did--shows the burgers in the latter form of preparation that I described. So, why or why does this Culver's prepare the burger in a way that I can't stand. I don't know. It can't really be a difference-in-franchise thing if you're putting the burgers in a box that represents a preparation different than what is served to the customers, so I think this is honestly an error in training. This has happened more than once to the extent that I won't order a burger from this Culver's anymore. I guess on a positive note my jeans thank me each time I opt for the pot roast sandwich instead (tasty and under 400 calories) of a burger. I had such a great experience here today. I've never been to Culver's before and asked the man taking my order (Tonny) what he would recommend. He gave me his exact order and said he would come by and check on me later. The burger came out and was delicious.
