I would easily rank Johnnies in the top 3 places probably number 2 in my opinion. I ordered the XL beef dipped w/giardiniera peppers. This beef was dripping w/incredible beef juice & the peppers. This isn't my first rodeo @ Johnnies Beef & it certainly will not be my last because when you find an outstanding beef it's definitely worth going back to over & over again & at time treat an out of town guest to one of the best Chicago has to offer.

The staff were friendly and responsive. Even though they forgot my fries and almost charged me again. Good thing I busted out my receipt. Tho they prolly would have refunded me if I were double charged. But on to the food review. We got 8 sandwiches I think and 10 Italian ice, 5 lemonade and 5 watermelon. Most of the beef sandos were double dipped. All of them had extra spicy and sweet pickles. Though the pickles were extra charge yet each sandwich came out to be less than $9. Overall it was pretty tasty and I thought the value was pretty good. Granted a hole in the wall ought to be cheaper yet I still felt there was great value here. Now can I make this at home? I suppose. But I prolly wouldn't and prolly would rather come here and just give 'em my money! The Italian ice and beef sandos were a good combo. There were 12 of us and 8 sandos, 10 Italian ice, fries and one large Diet Coke came to about $103. Granted we split the sandos yet it was still a pretty good value and yummy late night junk food hangout spot. Is it better than that other places that serves Chicago dogs? I think so. But you'll just have to come and try it for yourself.

I tried the lemon pepper dry rub and the garlic parm sauce both were really flavorful. The real star of the show is the extremely crispy and juicy wings the skin was some of the crispiest and crunchy wings I've ever had in Chicago and with no breading it was amazing. The wings also were nicely flavored by them self without any sauce. If you like crispy wings you have to try this place !! Since there was a total of 11 and the seating is first come first serve, we decided to call to see if they had reservations. They did take our name and reserved a table. When we arrived we noticed a table was reserved and we were informed that it was our table. We sat and looked over the menus. When we were ready my 2 boys and I went up to place our order. My one son has major allergies so we spoke to the chef and he came back out to recommend the dishes he can have. It was great that he did so and gave us confidence that my son would be able to eat without worrying too much about the ingredients. I ordered the Shrimp Kalamakia with a side of the Greek Rice. My son with the allergies ordered the Pork Kalamakia with Greek Rice and no pita, my other son ordered the Traditional Pork Gyro with Greek Rice. The sides we ordered: Saganaki Fritters and Spanakopitakia. My son that ordered the Pork Kalamakia devoured it. He said it was tender and juicy and probably could have eaten 4 skewers. My Shrimp Kalamakia was nicely charred and seasoned, I squeezed some lemon and it provided a nice tang over the seasoning. The Lemon rice pilaf was soft and cook just right and was nicely balanced. I had one Saganaki Ball and it was delicious. My son had the Pork Gyros said it was really good and the Tzatziki sauce was creamy and rich with flavors. My in-laws bought the table desserts and I got the Baklava and my wife got Loukoumades (Greek Donuts with Nutella) and both did not disappoint. I really loved the citrus honey syrup in the Baklava. The Loukoumades had a crispy shell and nice a fluffy on the inside and the Nutella amount was perfect. This place is very good and well worth the price in my opinion. I loved the fact that they took the time to make sure my son with allergies was safe.

Sadly, no vegan options, even the salads had meat and cheese. There was one Veggie Sub that I could have ordered without cheese, but nobody was able to give me an answer if the bread contained dairy or egg. They also were unable to show me the packaging so that I could read the ingredients. They do offer a "gluten-free" pizza, but for true Celiacs, are unable to confirm that it does NOT come in contact with any gluten. So, safe for anyone who is not a true Celiac and chooses to eat gluten-free. Bonus: Buy 2 slices, get a cola free! We also had the roasted red pepper spread, which everyone enjoyed. Two of us ordered the Ultimate Steak Sandwich. I opted to removed the caramelized onions. The other person let them on.
