    The interior of the restaurant

Our meal started out well enough. We were greeted by a friendly "Hola!!!" by our server and seated reasonably quickly. But it kind of went downhill from there. The bread was hard and dry. It took some time to get bottles of olive oil and balsamic. The first course of our prix fixe menu was the best part (I had a very fresh salad) but the second course took about 40 minutes to come out. Our waitress said she was going to check on it and disappeared for some time. When she returned with our plates we were both disappointed. I had the oxtail which was savory and tasty but lukewarm in a semi-congealed sauce with discs of potato. My husband had a whole fish poached with herbs. It was red in the middle and smelled a little too fishy. We were forgotten again for 10-15 minutes and our waitress completely disappeared at that point. The gruff attendant behind the counter came by to clear our dishes and ask what we wanted for dessert. The chocolate cake was dense and delicious but my husband did not enjoy his hardened slice of carrot cake. The coffee was nothing to write home about. We paid over 45.00 yet we had better meals for half the price in other places off the beaten path in Barcelona. This restaurant may seem convenient to the Plaça Catalunya (indeed, we picked it because we wanted a "quick" - HA! - meal before jumping on the double decker bus across the way), but I say skip it, and go to the boqueria instead.

This was our first time visiting Barcelona and this restaurant with our friends for dinner. We passed by and liked the posted menu in English. The place was packed with patrons for dinner, therefore we assumed this was a good local place for us to stop for dinner. Despite that the place was packed with customers we scored a table for four in the rear of the restaurant. I started with and enjoyed my portal (blanco Joven), which is a dry garnacha blanca 90% sauvignon Blanc and Viognier for 4 Euros. I enjoyed my patatas pulled pork bravas potatoes with carnitas, poutine sauce and chilli sour cream for 12 Euros. My friend also enjoyed his patatas pulled pork bravas potatoes. We all enjoyed our tapas. I also ended my dinner with a Cerv Jarra cervezas draft beer for 4.90 Euros. My friend also enjoyed the same cervezas draft beer. My total bill for the four of us was 81.30 Euros or USA $94.44 based on the current exchange rate. Our server Contado, who also spoke English, served us very well. After we visited I found one other nearby Alsur Cafes, which may or may not be affiliated with this Alsur Cafe restaurant. We agreed we will return here again. More to come regarding tomorrow's tour of the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell.

Our server, Amaya, was funny, knowledgeable, and incredibly attentive. He took great care of us, and every single recommendation he made was delicious. I wish I knew all the Spanish names of the dishes because everything was amazing. The highlights for us were the Bacalao -- so tender and full of flavor -- and honestly the best octopus I've ever had in my life. We also loved the soft steak with duck liver served on a slice of French baguette, the shrimp skewers, patatas, and the Spanish ham with tomato toasts. Every dish was unforgettable. On top of the incredible food, the restaurant itself has such an elegant atmosphere with beautiful décor that made the whole dining experience even more special. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Barcelona!

I came here for lunch, and thankfully I didn't have to wait too long before I got seated inside. The interior is a bit on the smaller side, but it's quite bright with a lot of natural sunlight inside. For the food, I decided to get squid, codfish with honey allioli, and iberian ham montaditos. While all of the food was great, for me the codfish was hands-down the star of the show and probably one of the best dishes that I ate on the trip. The flavor of the sauce combined with the texture of the fish actually blew me away, and I can see why my server highly recommended this to me. If you just get one things when coming here, definitely make sure not to miss this dish. Highly recommend checking this place out for Spanish tapas, they represent the cuisine well!

Caravelle is quaint and modern, and the service is definitely on the more lax side. Note: smaller parties may be seated at the communal table, and this place stays busy! Be prepared for a bit of a wait. I started with a café con leche, and although I'm not usually a sweets-for-breakfast kinda person, the croffle looked too enticing online to pass up. Being a huge egg aficionado, I also ordered a side of eggs à la carte. My coffee arrived quickly, but after waiting 30 minutes, I noticed that guests who had arrived after me were already enjoying their meals... When I checked in with the waiter, it turned out my order hadn't gone through at all. I had to reorder, and while waiting, I asked for another café con leche since I was long overdue for a refill. Unfortunately, that second coffee never came--but on the bright side, my meal eventually did. The croffle was freaking divine. Crispy/flakey on the outside, and soft inside. The cream was sweet, but not overpowering, and the tart of the berries balanced out the meal. As I was getting ready to check out, the waiter asked if I had ever received my second café con leche. Embarrassed for them, I admitted that I hadn't... Realizing they'd made ANOTHER mistake, he apologized profusely and quickly asked the barista to make me one to go. To compensate for my time and patience, he generously comped my entire meal, leaving me to pay only for the initial coffee (2.50 euros). Despite the service hiccups, the food was incredible--truly one of my favorite breakfasts in Spain.
