Albeit-- in a sketch area, Caravelle was an amazing find within walking distance of my hotel near the Gothic Quarter. Caravelle is quaint and modern, and the service is definitely on the more lax side. Note: smaller parties may be seated at the communal table, and this place stays busy! Be prepared for a bit of a wait. I started with a café con leche, and although I'm not usually a sweets-for-breakfast kinda person, the croffle looked too enticing online to pass up. Being a huge egg aficionado, I also ordered a side of eggs à la carte. My coffee arrived quickly, but after waiting 30 minutes, I noticed that guests who had arrived after me were already enjoying their meals... When I checked in with the waiter, it turned out my order hadn't gone through at all. I had to reorder, and while waiting, I asked for another café con leche since I was long overdue for a refill. Unfortunately, that second coffee never came--but on the bright side, my meal eventually did. The croffle was freaking divine. Crispy/flakey on the outside, and soft inside. The cream was sweet, but not overpowering, and the tart of the berries balanced out the meal. As I was getting ready to check out, the waiter asked if I had ever received my second café con leche. Embarrassed for them, I admitted that I hadn't... Realizing they'd made ANOTHER mistake, he apologized profusely and quickly asked the barista to make me one to go. To compensate for my time and patience, he generously comped my entire meal, leaving me to pay only for the initial coffee (2.50 euros). Despite the service hiccups, the food was incredible--truly one of my favorite breakfasts in Spain. read more

I didn't love that they put some kind of spice on the eggs (paprika maybe) - just too aggressive a flavor than I want in the am with my simple breakfast. Pretty chill place to grab some breakfast. I saw a wide variety of people from locals to tourists just chillin eating some breakfast or drinking some coffee. Some were doing work and others were just enjoying time with others. It's a nice escape from the bustle of the Ramblas Service was fairly quick and I receive my delight quickly, which was the pancakes. They were excellent. Not pictured was an iced latte. I hadn't ordered any iced coffees or lattes here in Spain, so I wanted to see it for myself before I leave Barcelona. Didn't disappoint! Small cozy cafe that was right off La Rambla. There was plenty of seating when we came in around 10:30-11:00. The staff was great and helpful on what to suggest for brunch. We were recommended the Smoked Pulled Pork Benny and Shakshuka. Both were amazing, very filling and highly recommend trying. The hot sauce that they have is also excellent. We also got the latte and iced matcha. If you're sensitive to dairy, don't fret, they have dairy alternatives. Series of Disappointments We really wanted to like this place, but they failed too many times. Our waitress (Lisa) was new, so we were prepared to accept a minor issue or two. We were able to order quickly, then the waiting began. After what seemed like too long, another waitress noticed and explained that there was a "technical issue." She assured us the food would be ready in seven minutes, and provided free drinks in the meantime. After more waiting, Lisa - remember Lisa? We had assumed she left the country after taking our order - saw we still didn't have our food, and she apologized. Shortly after that, Lisa brought food to our table. That was more than two hours after we placed the order! (Un)surprisingly, some of the food did not match our order. We shared this information with the other waitress - Lisa had gone missing again - and she said she would talk with the manager. Their solution: we could pay for "only" the part of the meal we ate and the drinks (which we were told were free when they were provided). So, the takeaway is that we didn't have to pay for the part of the order they got wrong AND there was no effort made to compensate for the fiasco. If the goal is to discourage repeat customers, then... Mission accomplished! read more

The menu is something similar to what you might find at a brunch place in the U.S. but a little funkier. After a wonderful trip with my sister to Barcelona, we absolutely had to get one last amazing meal before leaving. Caravelle was the lucky winner... but we ended up being the winners. We finally ordered the full Spanglish, with two poached eggs and the rancheros. Both were an absolute treat. Full Spanglish - this is the way to go if you have a voracious appetite. It's protein packed and salty, thrown (rather than assembled) onto a plate. But the best part? Those roasted tomatoes and miso mushrooms turned out to be the element that brought the whole dish together. chorizo & potato rancheros - poached eggs over tostadas! Very refreshing with the pico salsa and light crema, and a nice portion. Also, it just looks pretty. It was a great meal, and I felt satisfied knowing I had to leave for the airport to head home.
