Small portion of scrambled eggs with plain toast
Alana B.

The food here was fine but definitely not on par with what other reviewers said. We ordered the açaí bowl that had all of the fruit on bottom, some semi-cold smoothie like thing on top with a handful of plain cereal. It was good but nothing near an actual açaí bowl and the presentation lacked. I ordered the scrambled eggs with ham, spinach, and cheese which was good overall, but nothing to write home about. They were simply eggs with some dry toast (needed that tomato). Lastly, the mini chocolate croissant was like something you'd get anywhere else. The only thing that stood out was the matcha orange juice that was very yummy - some sweet and sour with the cut of the matcha. Very different tasting but proved to be the best part of our meal. Overall, this place was "eh". I was expecting much more based on previous reviews but found myself wishing I had only ordered the juice and cafe.

Bikini sandwich with spinach added

Hänsel is this cute little cafe on the streets of Barcelona, serving up some great essential sandwiches, pastries, pasta, juices, and coffee. My friends and I stopped by Hänsel on the last morning of our stay in Barcelona and it was a great experience all around. I got the Bikini sandwich (a ham and melted cheese sandwich) and asked if I was able to add some spinach. While they usually don't include spinach in the sandwich, they said they can add it for me with no extra charge! Also ordered an Americano, which came in a cute espresso mug and was great. Service wise, our waiter was fantastic. He could tell that we were tourists (obviously, from our huge travel backpacks) and recommended several menu items for us. The food came out quick and all the sandwiches were warm and toasty. I'd recommend Hänsel to anyone looking for a high quality, yet affordable and quick place to eat for breakfast/lunch/brunch! It's setup like your typical cafe, with many small tables and several wall outlets (I think), so it's definitely a relaxing environment away from the bustling city streets.

French pastries are done in perfection. The pastries with filo dough are crunchy and very tasty. We tried the 4 cheese Quiche, was so good that melts in your mouth. The "cafe con leche" is well done. If you like sweet orange juice this is the place...exquisito!!! The owner was very patient explaining the different pastries and food options and the server was very attentive. The ambience is very inviting, with a clear wood decore, clean and nice.

I believe we were helped by the owner. Very kind and accommodating. Okay... the eggs were superb. Scrambled eggs with cheese, mushrooms and ham. I asked my wife is this what fresh eggs taste like? If it is, I want fresh eggs every morning. My first espresso in Spain. More to come.

"Hansel...he's so hot right now." ...and that's the first thing that came to mind when coming across this place. Mugatu reference aside, it's a great place to take a break after strolling Passeig De Gracia. Staff is super welcoming, which is much more than I can say for several other shops and cafes in the area. They make all that juices and the two that we tried (kiwi melon and mango pear orange) were refreshing, delicious and thick (i.e. not watered down). Spent under 20 Euro for a breakfast sandwich, an egg scramble, a croissant and two juices.

Pan de coca

I came across this cafe while looking for a different one. I'm glad I did. I finally got to have some pan de coca. It was sweet and delicious. Light enough to to perfectly with my cafe con leche. I will probably try something else next time I'm here. I've heard the food is great. In the meantime, though, I'm satisfied. I wanted to give this place 5 stars on service alone. The people here are so friendly! I really like the atmosphere and there were plenty of people when I went (around 6:30 on a Thursday.) I will definitely be back and I can't wait to try their actual menu. Even still, for a coffee and a pastry this place is swell.

The selections are amazing

Came here for breakfast with a group of 7... everyone loved their food and ordered more. Juices and coffee taste amazing! They have Mallorcas here!! I ordered a Mallorca with ham and cheese which surprised the server. "Never have I ever heard this order", he even named it after me "The Chris" none the less it was amazing and tasted like the Mallorcas I had in Puerto Rico. I plan to come here again since I'm here for a week... order "The Chris" you won't be disappointed

Cava- crisp and light. We were seated promptly. It was was very busy due to dia de los libros and today san Jordy another Unesco world recognized. Any way it was very busy and crowded in the city. Sellers of roses all over the streets. We ducked into this place and it was great bustling with activity but everyone was pleasant. They brought out little toasted bread. We ordered cold quinoa salad with fresh tomatoes and avocado. Very good not heavy at all! 2nd entree was clam with spaghetti very delicate flavor. It was hot and very good. A slight lemon flavor with spices. Once again very light. My only complaint was how long it took to get our check and pay. Which seems to be the case just about anywhere we go in Spain. Hence the 4 stars. Don't they know we are tourists and have a limited time?! ;-)

Very clean and simple!! Menu for lunch was kinda limited but they have great focaccia and salads! Light food with small portions which is healthy and doesn't leave you over stuffed!

Excellent place for breakfast or lunch. There is a nice selection of sandwiches, bread and fresh juice for just a few euros. You can even combine your own sandwich. I had two with salami, cheese and tomato. The tomatoes tasted like they were picked in the morning. The sandwiches were very good. I also had teo mini croissants which basically just came out of the oven, they were still warm - tasted great! For drink had a cafe latte and a kiwi+melon juice. I recommend trying their juices. Service was excellent, the older fella who took our order spoke very good english and even asked us which words should he be using for specific things to be more correct in his speech. The interior was very modern, it was not so noisy. I couldn't identify whether they had Wi-Fi or not though.

Really good cappuccino. Clean place, good service.

Crowded, no attention. No service, waste of time. Never go there again. Hope they increase the number of employees.

I'd recommend the bikini, the croquettes are good but never super warm. Not super touristy but good vibe.

This is definitely a great spot for anyone into American beer hall vibes while in Barcelona - plenty of seating and TV's throughout to watch games or other things. You order up at the counter, and we just got a pitcher of beer when we went later at night, as the food service had ended. I do kind of wish we could've had the chance to still get some food, as other tables that had some from earlier looked really tasty. Nevertheless, the vibes were great and the beers hit the spot here. What more can I say?! It was bright, airy, and comfortable inside - perfect for hanging out! I think this is a great option - especially for American tourists, but also for just anyone that wants to have a spot that's chill and fun to hang out at. I definitely recommend!

Fun little American beer bar style place in Barcelona…read more I've been here twice, and enjoyed both times! The beer selection is vast and great, I've enjoyed their wheat beer, as well as lagers. The wings are good too, my favs were garlic Parmesan, buffalo & buffalo mild. I love that they offer free water lol This is a great place for groups of about 4-8 anything more and you may not be able to fit on the same table. It's a fun pregame place, and I recommend it.

This is definitely a small, local, casual bar to grab a bocadillo and a drink or two. Service was friendly and fast, they checked in on us but mostly let us do our own thing. Everyone also spoke English, which made things easier for us. Foodwise, we got 2 different bocadillos to try along with the patatas bravas. I loved the iberico bocadillo and the other one as well (I forgot the name but it had country sausage, peppers, and onions). The bread was crisp but soft and did not hurt the roof of my mouth. The filling was flavorful and balanced. The patatas bravas were not the usual ones we were used to, they were herbed and not fried but were so good. We had hoped to return for a second meal here or for takeaway for our flight but unfortunately, timing did not work out. I definitely recommend this spot and think its an excellent, cheap spot for an amazing meal.

One of the first things you should get straight at Bar Fidel is that this is *not* a Spanish…read morebusiness; it's a Catalan one. The owner will hit you over the head with this fact. I know it's a big deal and I know people have bad days but this gentleman was in a mood if ever one was. On one hand, I was happy with the non-touristy, local experience I was getting. On the other one, I found myself longing for a touch of tourist consideration. Even though Catalan is the word of the day at Bar Fidel, you won't get (too many) bad looks by speaking in Spanish. Try to avoid speaking in English. Also, avoid ordering sangria. Not only is it not an option, it makes the owner not want to suffer fools and to complain about people coming to his city and wanting such 'pedestrian' libations. Get your wine and keep it moving. You're at a local's pub, so keep it simple: salad, sandwich, wine, and/or beer. These are your choices... and I had all four. Were I to come back, I would settle on a liquid diet. My crab salad had much too much mayonnaise (you know how I feel about mayonnaise) for my tastes and my salmon baguette - while an interesting mix of fish, dill and roquefort cheese - was, ultimately, too pedestrian for a dinner item (although as a lunch item and paired with a beer, it would have been a good fit). The onus was on me to do more research. I didn't. I thought I did but I didn't. My ill preparation, however, was compounded by the awkward atmosphere I felt from the owner. I always advocate going off the beaten path and trying to get a more local feel of a city. If I were to come back here, though, I would make sure I did it with a local... who spoke fluent Catalan.
