I sat at the bar, and there was visible bird feces along with rainwater on the portion of the bar I was sitting at. It's somewhat uncovered so it happens. I told the bartender that there was bird poop on the bar, and she says it's from the rain. I said no, there's also poop on the bar. She took a dish rag and started smearing the poop all over the bar. Stumbled upon this place walking back to our hotel and I heard music and saw bright lights. We checked out the menu and saw they had pina colada in a pineapple! Say no more! We got seated and to my surprise it was a live music band with a singer. They were really good too! They have a tipping jar, so support them! My boyfriend isn't a drinker, but he enjoyed his tiki colada. The pina colada is a bit pricey approx 20ish dollars, but there's a lot of it & it's refreshing! Def worth it. Best of all: live, free music. We stayed long enough to hear covers of Bruno Mars, Eagles, Chaka Khan, Smashing Pumpkins, Donna Summer, Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, Gloria Estefan, Lady Gaga. Ok so I get this is a local dive bar. That checks out, cool ambiance. I also recognize this is downtown Waikiki, so can't expect too cheap. But. Here you get both: dive bar vibes with price tags equivalent to a non dive bar restaurant. So which one is it? If a mai tai is 20$, then make it at least comparable to Mai Tais at other locations for the same price. If on the other hand this is a dive bar, then the prices should reflect that. Plastic cups and their definition of a Mai Tai was so below what we got for paying the same price at two different locations around that area, that it's hard to let this one pass as not a tourist trap. Also. The menu has literal spelling mistakes. Lager spelled "larger", and there's a "Lorem Ipsum" written on one of the graphics. Kinda shows the level of attention to detail.. service was ok for a dive bar. The no dancing sign was such a blow until we read reviews with the manager explaining why it's there.. I get the no license reasoning, but seeing a dozen rules and regulations on laminated papers as you walk in was not a good sign. We stayed for one round and left. 4.0 rating is imo too high. Such a potential for a really vibey place, they just gotta work on execution, quality to price ratio. read more

I wanted to go to a place that had live music so that's how we ended up here at Cuckoo Coconuts. I was originally thinking of booking a luau, but we did a luau once before so... I think the next best thing is to go to a place where there's live music. It'll be fun and definitely less expensive. The place is cute in that it's decked out in tiki decor. The staff is friendly and attentive. My sis and I got a Hawaiian burger to share, and we both got a piña colada in a pineapple. Of course, the drinks looks bomb because it's in a pineapple, but dang...the drink was very strong. We both couldn't finish it due to the strong alcohol. Lol.. if you like your drinks strong, then you would like this. I should have gone with a mocktail version. Haha but it's okay. The band that night was great! We had an enjoyable time. The burger was pretty good; I tend to like my burger with cheese. The Hawaiian one doesn't have cheese, but we got it to try since hey we're in Hawaii. Makes sense right? Would say a big plus to this place is the great, live music- except due to insurance reasons, there is no dancing allowed. That's fine, I didn't come to dance. But I can see how this can deter customers. The menu is your typical bar food, but obviously over priced. For instance, we ordered some seafood platter that includes calamari, coconut shrimp, and breaded fish over a "bed of fries." The cost for this platter was $19. The fries tasted like a frozen bag of fries and we had 2 coconut shrimp on the platter. Lol. I think 3 small pieces of fish and maybe 3-4 breaded calamari. Not worth the price in my opinion. Can't vouch for the drinks because we didn't have any alcohol. Wouldn't recommend this place unless you are just really looking for live music and don't mind over paying for your food food. The restaurant itself has a fun design. Lots of seating which probably allows you to be seated almost immediately. Easy to find the location of the place as well. Not sure of the parking or bathroom situation because I did not use either of those. read more

We loved this place. We visited this place twice during our stay but we enjoyed during the weekend than a week day. The wait time is really long. We almost waited for 45-50 mins to get a table. During weekend the wait was around 15mins. The live music fabulous during the weekend. I really wish there was dancing allowed! The crowd was of a mixed age group, which was fun to vibe with. The drinks are really delicious! Especially the drink in a pineapple! There aren't much options for vegetarians. The food was fine. Not too great nor too bad. The items marked spicy are really spicy and we enjoyed it. The service here is very slow. Food and drinks took for ever to be served. During rush hours, the service is all over the place. We got our food mixed up couple times & a dish was forgotten too! If you ask fir anything extra (eg, sub something or extra sauce etc), be prepared to be charged even if it ain't on the menu. Dive bar with live music! We came on February 13 at 9:30 PM. The lady singing was sooooo good! As far as the drinks, Mai Tai was yummy but the pina colada was probably the worst I've had. It was warm, zero ice blended with it and all the ingredients were separated in the cup upon arriving to the table. They have an open bar where you can see how they are making it and she just pulled it from a blender that looks like it's been sitting there for a couple hours.
