At one point, I was considering storing my belongings at their warehouse for less than a week. Rather than simply taking the additional business, they told me it did not make sense to move everything from the original location into warehouse storage for such a short period because it would unnecessarily increase my costs. That advice was one of the reasons I ultimately decided to use PODS instead. My moving needs did change at the last minute, which made the overall move more expensive than I had originally planned, but that was because of the changing logistics, not because they were trying to increase the price. I really appreciated that they were focused on helping me find the most practical and cost-effective solution. I would absolutely recommend them.

I KNOW how long it takes to move my place. Not only did this take more than TWICE as long with allegedly a whole other person, they brought a fourth unauthorized guy. And still took more than half the time. One guy sat in the truck most of the time, I have pictures, the others didn't start on my kitchen until the end, had to wait for that....later to find out when I went back to the old apartment they hadn't even finished the whole kitchen ...ran over my allotted time at the building I was moving out of, at my cost. And then they ruined my couch. So I paid DOUBLE what I was expecting, which was already more than what was quoted cause I was adding a little buffer, but ended up tipping a whole additional person because I'm not a jerk. The guys were nice but inefficient. Kept saying this is what you get with a higher quality mover, but it was not even a better experience. They were wasteful with the amount of packing supplies they used, never presented or communicated the prices of the materials they were using, which I was told was included anyway but also others I never approved or asked for. Just popped it on me in the end. Oh and then they say "we are going to adjust your time by 15 min you'll see a refund on your card" and two and a half weeks later still waiting for it to even show pending at least. But you better believe the charge was instant. I was debating sharing my feedback but was so mad I finally emailed the company. But no one had even dignified me with not even an automated response, just silence. So I come here to do something I pretty much never do. But that's how annoyed I am. Sorry but would rather recommend. Cheap Movers, way better. I used last move were a thousand times better and a QUARTER of the price. I'm not even cheap but I hate being taken for a fool, and it turned out to be just that. That's what I get what I get for using hourly movers for the first time, never again. A slow work scam, exactly what I was worried about, but like an idiot I bought into the reassurances Karen gave me but they truly let her down. I hope she knows they're having her selling lies.

In the course of 2 years, company decided to raise my agreed rental rate 3 times for up to 50% more than initially agreed. After confronting the manager, I was told this is out of their hands since corporate decides when and how much the rental increases occur. Instead of moving my business elsewhere, manager offered a smaller unit at a much lesser rate, taking into account that "rate will not increase for at least a year and even if it does, increase will be marginal". Trusting this company I decided to go ahead with the downgrade. To my surprise, less than 4 months later I receive ANOTHER RATE INCREASE NOTICE!! This time the increase would be for more than 50% starting next month. This increase like all the others happen for NO JUSTIFIABLE reason. As expressed by many others, this company has a long history of PREDATORY BILLING PRACTICES. They purposely wait for you to be settled with your storage to increase your rates, not by a marginal amount but increases of over 50% of your agreed rental agreement. I appealed this with their superiors in writing but they failed to even respond. I am now in the process of starting to take legal action against this company and needless to say I recommend everyone to stay away from this corporation completely!

So after receiving a few quotes from a handful of businesses, I went with Potomac Moving due to the speed of their response, clarity in communication, pricing and overall warmth and professionalism. In our first phone call to walk though my needs, they were very assuring and accommodating, which is a such a relief in the midst of stress and coordination that comes with planning for a move. They were also always very responsive in the few times that I reached out between the time I paid the deposit and the actual move. A night or two before, I sent at email regarding wardrobe boxes, since I was debating whether or not I should buy and have a few delivered to me. The owner responded quickly, assuring me that wardrobe boxes were tried, true and if I wanted to buy any directly from them that I could. That ended up being a great call, because they were able to properly enforce the boxes so that even the boxes filled with my heaviest coats remained in tact. On the day of the move, the movers were communicative regarding their arrival time. They were also very nice and hard working. I had a few large furniture items that needed to be disassembled and they ended up being quite beasts to tackle. But they worked diligently to break them down. Once it came time to move things to my new place, that was a breeze. One gesture that I thought was just so classy, was the owner called in the middle of the move to check-in on how things were going - I really appreciated that. Met us at our storage unit the next day 400 miles away and unloaded and move in the storage unit in under 2 hours! They secured and packed stuff very efficiently and made sure to tape things that were loose! While we were eventually refunded the amount for this delay, it was incredibly stressful to have movers protest, call their boss to ask for more movers, and practically not do any moving for at least 25 minutes. It is less so how much we were charged in the end, but more how slow the managers were to resolve our issues, to the point of our repeated calls being ignored until we called from a different number.

They were kind and thoughtful, helping me make adjustments to the furniture layout once we got to the destination. Their positivity through one of the hardest situations I've ever gone through was much-needed and made me feel confident in entering this next chapter. I even had a last minute change to the destination (originally everything was going into storage but I ended up finding an apartment just in time), and the professionalism and patience from the entire Bookstore team through this change was excellent. We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.
