I cannot recommend this company based on our experience. I genuinely wish our move had gone as smoothly as the many positive reviews here suggest, but unfortunately, that was not the case. I'm not even going to get into the issues with how our move was handled or the fact that responsibility has continually been placed on us. What was most disappointing was the way our representative treated me during the follow-up phone call. Instead of listening to my concerns, they were dismissive and demeaning, which was both surprising and unprofessional. I would also caution anyone considering the lower-cost service option. Based on our experience, it felt as though choosing the less expensive option resulted in a lower level of service and support compared to customers paying for higher-priced services. I am attaching only a few pictures of what we found after opening a container to unload. I have more. I'm sad to say this company is accusing us doing this to our belongings. He walked me through my first physical eviction, so I was not surprised by the process. The company is a rare find for eviction movers...AAA-rated by Better Business Bureau. The PG County Sheriff's staff is acquainted with Gabriel and Movers on Duty however not allowed to provide leads which is not helpful to anyone in need of this particular service. Gabriel was responsive to my questions, emails, texts, and calls. The eviction went precisely as Gabriel stated. During the eviction, he would inform me of how things were going and the reason for any pause in activities. The workers were prompt, courteous, and well-coordinates. I initially gave them 5 stars because I know the work they do is very hard and they were very accommodating during the process of eviction as we all had to wait almost 2 hours for the sheriff to show up. However, I have sent them no less than 5 emails requesting they send photos of when they entered the home as I know this issue is going to end up in court. Not only have they not sent any photos they haven't even had the courtesy to respond. Very, very disappointing. read more

This is the second time I have used these folks and once again, they have gone above and beyond. I was actually scheduled to use another firm, but they cancelled one me four days before my scheduled move, leaving me in a bit of a frenzy. Luckily, I was able to get in touch with Movers on Duty and they were able to not only accommodate my original move date and plan, but they also beat the original company's price and provided the packing materials for free (since I was a returning customer). I hired movers on duty back in 2021 when I moved to DC. They were great to work with because they have good prices and friendly movers! They successfully moved a very heavy piano into my apartment. I recently moved into a house and decided to use this company again. I packed everything myself, but they helped with furniture wrapping and loading and unloading the truck. Once again, they were great to work with. Everything arrived at the house in perfect condition. I would recommend this company! read more

My experience with this company is much more positive than a previous moving company I had used in the past. We received a flat rate for the move and that is all we were charged. They were professional and fast and put all our furniture where it needed to go. Even up our narrow stair case. It gave us a peace of mind knowing our stuff would get to our new home safe and in one piece and we didn't have to do any heavy lifting. They seemed great with accurate quotes and profession when they showed up but between the drive across the country and unloading the truck they damaged most of my furniture even completely breaking a few pieces. On the phone, Gabriel is very helpful. In person Gabriel is rude and dismissive. We paid a deposit of half, which is no problem. The evicted tenants moved so there wasn't much to do. The Movers On Duty showed up on time/early and had additional personnel than the requested twenty movers. Due to the amount of movers needed (20) they offered me a discounted rate which was great. There was a rocky start with the financial disbursement which could have gone somewhat better on the part of the Manager, but there were emotions on both parts. Yet, as a company I hold more responsibility on them to remain in the most professional at all times. Yet, I do not rate that as a negative against their overall service, but as a note on how to be more improved for the next time. They worked to clear my home in an efficient and swift manner. I would definitely use their services again, especially since they were able to gather so many people with such short notice! Movers On Duty were great! They were on time, caring, uniformed and were a pleasure to deal with. We couldn't have been more pleased, specially because they even helped us move our Jaccuzi which wasn't originally part of the job but they did so great moving everything else into our new home that we figured we should have them move that too instead of calling a different company just for that. And instead of complaining all they would say is "sure no problem". All this made it really hard for me to understand why they had such a bad rep in Yelp. And although they are 3 years old reviews, would I have read their reviews before and I might not have hired them. Luckily I didn't. I love these guys! You must have been paid good money to say that "Movers on Duty" is an awesome company! This company is a SCAM and the players behind it are all involved, (from owner, manager(Gabriel), hired help (from Craigslist), and scheduler). Unfortunately, I could not unclick the 1-star rating which they DO NOT deserve. The movers were scheduled at 9:30 am and did not arrive at our home until 11:30 am. I was told by Gabriel that their moving truck engine light was on and he did not want to take the chance to have his hired help drive the truck long distance to Georgia. (Note, in reading other reviews this is a common message that Gabriel gives to customers) This led Gabriel to rent another truck, Penske. The truck that initially loaded our furniture was the rented white Penske truck however when our furniture arrived in Georgia it was a yellow Penske truck. The reason why our furniture winded up in another Penske truck is that the initial truck got into an accident and we were never informed of this until the truck arrived in Georgia. We were informed of the accident by the driver, who stated that "he was so upset that he almost left our furniture out on the street because Movers on Duty did not assist him". When we found out about this incident we immediately reached out to the manager, Gabriel, and told him about all the damages that were caused by the accident that we were never informed about. Gabriel's statement, "please feel free to send pictures of the damaged items to this number directly if that's easier". I sent pictures to Gabriel's next statement: "I'm sorry, I'm feeling under the weather. I will try to reach out to you this evening". After trying to reach him he responds with: I won't be able to personally contact you but please send us an email with the actual total amount you are asking for and let us see what we can do and how we can work this out". After all his statements, I never heard back from Gabriel (CRICKETS). Not as much as a call from the owner Luis Montalvo, smh! My husband and I decided to move forward with our plans and have our insurance company go after the scammers. I put my experience with this company out here for you. Movers On Duty was a great find! We paid a flat fee for our move, which was only to a new apartment on the same floor of the same building. We liked that they didn't try to up-sell us or nickel-and-dime us on charges. The movers were incredibly professional, courteous, efficient and careful. The entire move took about two and a half hours and included moving boxes and two beds, as well s several pieces of furniture. I used Movers on Duty for my long haul move from DC to NYC last week. I received a quote over the phone for the move as well as packing. The great thing was that it was an all-inclusive quote, no extra charges for anything (including all the stairs at my NY apartment). The price was significantly less than other quotes I was getting. The day of the move, the team of 4 movers and 1 packer showed up right on time. They were able to pack up and move all my stuff out of a 1 bedroom apartment in only 3 hours. They were quite efficient. The next day, I had all my items delivered in NY. (One great thing about this company is that they have a dedicated truck for your stuff, so it gets there faster) There was only a team of 2 in NY, and I had a 4th floor walkup. So the unloading took longer, at about 5 hours. They still did a great job and almost all my stuff arrived undamaged. The only small issue was that my cat's tower thing broke a bit in the unloading process, but it was fairly cheap anyway. This has definitely been my least stressful and best of my last moving experiences. The packing was totally worth it too as they brought all the boxes/supplies to pack up my stuff.
