This moving company is the absolute worst. I chose this moving company because of the previous reviews. However, I can only speak for my experience. All I know is they packed liquids in with my books and other valuables that spilled in the boxes . Not to mention they are thieves. I found out that they drank one of my beers and they stole my moving boxes and tape that I had purchased that I had never opened. EVERYONE at Movers on duty was incredibly professional. I had to deal with an eviction move for the frist time and Luis was very patient in explaining the process to me as well as very responsive to all my questions and calls. Luis even called the morning of the eviction to make sure the eviction was on schedule since in his experience, evictions don't happen when it's raining. Turns out it was rescheduled. He could have sent his movers out knowing it wouldn't happen and charge me but he didn't. This is truly a PRO move. His movers were on-time, polite, and prompt despite the incredible amount of stuff/junk they had to deal with and tennent eviction drama. I was ecstatic when I saw that Amazon's deal of the day was movers in my area, w/our lease being up in about 3 weeks I immediately snagged one thinking to myself that this was going to be great, however what actually happened was far from it. I called on Dec 13 and asked about scheduling a move for Jan. 6th. The guy who answered told me he would check availability and get back with me in FIVE minutes... Well FIVE minutes.... FIVE hours.... FIVE days.... passed by with NO CALL BACK. I called back on a couple more occasions and spoke w/a couple of different people, all of which who said the same thing. We'll check availability and get RIGHT back with you. Needless to say, they never did. Finally, I called again on Jan 2nd and spoke w/a gentleman who was very apologetic and gave his word that he would get back w/me on the next day..... Now things are getting crazy b/c we are literally a couple of days from the time we need to move and they were still getting the run around. So half way through the next day... still w/no word, I called him back and got no answer.... so I then left a message w/my WORK NUMBER & CELL NUMBER. I called the other number. Another guy answered and said he'd call me back.... a few hours later, no call back from either of them. I called the first guy back and he said "Oh I was going to call you back but I lost your number".... WHAT?!!! Are you serious?!.... REALLY?... At this point, I can't even bring myself to be as livid as I normally would be. I just made a mental note to myself not to use them again. Anyway, the guy told me I could use the deal voucher through March... or get a refund... WOW. I can use the voucher through March?!... But I'm moving in January.... I just hope I can find a REPUTABLE moving service or other arrangements now since it is such short notice. You know, I totally understand that businesses utilize group deals in order to draw traffic & bring new business to the company.... With that being said, it is probably a good idea for the business to make sure that they are able to handle the wave of folks that will come, otherwise you #FAIL! read more

We hired these guys based on a recommendation we received from my family member who had used Movers On Duty (MOD) for their move. I am so thankful for the recommendation and for the excellent job MOD did today on our move. Paul, their office guy, who sets up the appointment for the services, is a reasonable, respectful, professional and a very patient man. I must've called him at least 7 times to get a quote, to discuss the price with my husband, to then calling back and finalizing the appointment. The guys on the field, who arrived on time on the moving day came prepared and ready to work. Very respectful of us, our home and our belongings. They meticulously wrapped every piece of furniture for protection, and moved everything with care and speed into the truck. They disassembled the furniture and offered to reassemble everything at the final destination. MOD had sent 6 or 7 guys for our move of a two bedroom condo on the THIRD FLOOR. These guys hustled hard hauling everything down two flights of stairs. From start to finish (empty truck to empty truck) it took four hours for them to complete the job. Well worth every penny. Needed a heavy single-item move quickly (purchased furniture at an outlet and they only hold for 3 days). Called Luis on a Wednesday, confirmed quote (cheapest out of 3 different movers!) and were able to meet me at the outlet store Thursday morning! They also called me an hour before arriving like they said they would, and they showed up at the store ON TIME (a big peave of mine). I did NOT use this company for my move, but I quoted a price with them which was considerably higher than the reputable company I chose, which is fine by me. After all, it's a free market. However, they literally called me SIX times as of today when I told them after the second time that I had already settled with a different moving company and asked them to stop calling me. Every time they called they kept being pushy about it and made it an uncomfortable experience. I had originally scheduled Movers on Duty to help with an eviction. They were very helpful and had a straight forward way of handling that process. Fortunately the tenant left without the need for a formal eviction and thankfully I was able to cancel the night before with no issue. Unfortunately, the tenant left all their furniture and belongings in the home which needed to be disposed of. While the movers were VERY nice and worked hard, the owner did not communicate with them and the packers threw things into garbage bags. They did not bring all of my items either because the truck was not bug enough. Luis claimed that he woukd charge me more for pictures when in reality, the truck was not big enough. They are not equipped for huge jobs and do not come to the house prior to the move to estimate the size of the job. read more

We contacted this company to move a relatively small number of items to different areas within our home, and also to another house in the same neighborhood. We were very up front on the phone with what we wanted moved: pool table, piano, fridge, TV, couple of couches, some chairs. They were GREAT on the phone, and said it wouldn't be an issue to move any of those items. Two guys showed up and spent an hour deciding they in fact couldn't move anything. One repeatedly complained he was worried about hurting his back. I can sympathize with that, but dude: YOU'RE A MOVER. We called the company immediately to apprise them of the situation, and they flat out accused us of lying to them when we hired them, claiming we never told them what we wanted moved. They threatened to withold our deposit before finally consenting to return it. The man of the phone this time was just plain nasty. This was a very poor experience and I do not recommend this company. For what it's worth, I've now personally moved almost all of the items the movers said they couldn't, including the pool table. read more

I strongly recommend that you find another company to do your move! Let my negative experience guide you to another company. 1. I expected them to pack all of my belongings. I made sure that "Jose" at their front office clearly knew what I wanted and he stated that Movers on Duty could do it. Fail ----- They showed up with about 6 used boxes. My family had to do a panic packing. Fail ----- The crew did not know they were expected to pack things. Fail ----- "Gabriel" the "General Manager" showed up with some boxes from Lowe's 2 hours after the movers arrived (no wardrobe boxes). (Excuse - "I went to three different places. This is the best I could find.) 2. I expected a professional company. Fail ----- They showed up @ about 2 hours late in a rental truck (excuse - "Our truck's check engine light came on") Fail ----- They showed up unprepared to pack. Fail ----- The crew ran out of packing material and used our blankets and quilts as padding. Fail ----- The crew argued with each other in front of both my old and new houses. Fail ----- "Jose" did not answer the phone or emails on Monday between the hours of 9am and noon (excuse - "Jose is in the hospital until Wednesday.") Fail ----- "Gabriel" was rude to me to which I responded rudely. Fail ----- The estimate was for $1,500. By the end of the move they wanted $2,700. Fail ----- They wanted me to rate them for a well known web-based reviewing company. The driver presented me with a form and wanted me to fill it out in front of him. Fail ----- Evidently, the company does not have the revenue to pay its employees unless the "customer" pays. I refused to pay until I spoke to Jose or Gabriel. Two of the workers have called and sent text messages to my personal cell! (Two days after the move I sent them $2,200, they gave me a $500 "discount".) 3. I expected a reasonable move (12 hours max). I had used other moving companies twice before to move the same household goods in 8-10 hours (we packed). Fail ----- 16 hours! A 16 hour move! Fail ----- "Gabriel" dropped off boxes at my old house two hours after the move began. He showed up in a moving truck with another guy in the truck. Had he stayed and helped, the 16 hour move would have been reduced to 10-12 hours. FAIL FAIL FAIL My summary... They did get the house moved but Movers on Duty promised to pack my house which they did not. Their movers lacked a level of competency and professionalism that a reasonable person would expect (arguing in public, not calling for help once they realized the move would take an excessive amount of time). I found their costumer service skills to be nonexistent (condescending attitudes do not lead to customer satisfaction). So they got (are getting) a total of $2,300 from me. I hate to think that they've made a profit off of my family and me after the anguish they subjected us to... I hate paying them anything after that. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL COMPANY. No response at all after I was given a quote... In fact I had to call them to get any kind of confirmation and I still never received anything. Then on the day of the move and my schedule pick up time (11:45 AM) I didn't get a call. I had to CALL THEM and was told that they were running an hour late. I went to go and pick up my keys to my new apartment and called them back to see where they were. I was told that they were still running late (it's now almost 2 PM). I was still in the office filing paperwork when I received a call that the truck had been hit by a car and what did I want them to do... EXCUSE ME!!! I have paid you to move me; the only thing out of your mouth should have been "A truck is on the way." I had plans in the evening so I could not move that night. The next day was almost a repeat of the first - they were once again an hour late, but they did show up. However I think a snail could have moved faster than they moved. Not only that when we finally got going we had to stop for gas and then the truck would not go over 40 mph in a 55 mph speed limit. I complained repeatedly and was told that they were "trying to make things right". I then called to speak to someone regarding compensation and the gentleman on the phone (GABE) treated me like I did something wrong. He said that he did only what I asked him to do after I told him that I had to shift and rearrange my schedule (I missed my cable appointment) for them. He told me that I was "Unbelievable" and that he had never had a customer like me. I told him that I work weddings for a living and that if a bride has done everything right and I'm late, who is at fault. He told me that he didn't want to talk to me anymore and hung up. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. I am trying to get people never to use this company because of their unprofessionalism and sheer rudeness. read more

Used this company for a move a while back, and now that I have a Yelp account, figured I would warn people away from them. I hired them for a short distance move, literally across the street, in DC. They arrived over an hour late, which caused problems since the apartment I was living in requires you to reserve the elevator for specific times. When they finally did arrive, there were 2 people, and it was clear that one of the workers was just a day laborer the main guy had picked up along the way. They gave me an estimate for a 2 hour move, and they definitely started to slow down to ensure they went over the 2 hour mark. Using the bathroom often, taking the elevator down when it was only a 1/4 full, not using the moving cart and just hand carrying random boxes to the elevator, etc. Of course, since they went over the 2 hour mark by 15 minutes, they then added another charge for a full hour instead of prorating. This on top of a number of hidden fees they also tacked on. And 10 minutes before the move ended, he told us their boss just texted them saying the "credit card machine wasn't working" and so we'd have to pay with cash. Obviously, the company tries avoiding paying any sort of taxes. And when we didn't have a few hundred dollars lying around and someone had to go to an ATM to get cash, they left a couch in the hallway and refused to move it in. After the move was finally finished, there was damage to some of the wooden items and they refused to acknowledge they had done it. Summary: Late. Uses day laborers. Many hidden fees. Will slow down to make sure they go over the estimated time and then charge you more. Will lie to make you pay cash to avoid the company paying taxes. Damage to items. read more

Their sales rep Malik quoted me a price of $300 and then they proceeded to not show up at the agreed time, kept me waiting from 10 AM until 3 PM and then attempted to jack up the price after the agreement was made.
