In 2009, we became excited first time RV owners. Hince, we researched the very best place to store…read moreour new and expensive RV and decided upon what was then, Shady Storage, now Carefree Covered RV Storage-Apache Junction. There was not even a close second choice for security, cleanliness, and amenities. Through the years we have racked up many memories in that RV. Each new adventure would include our young children and up into the last few years, our grandchildren. At the conclusion of each escapade, we detailed our rig on site and stored it a few feet away to await our next adventure. Yesterday, I left Carefree for what will likely be the last time. I jealously want to discourage anyone from taking a space that I will likely covet next fall which in the least will require that I write a bad review. But that would be dishonest. Admittedly, A few years ago came new management and what followed was new state of the art security and an overall upgrade in benefits and convenience. It also came with a bump is rental fees which I was not thrilled about. I immediately set out to locate a more affordable storage facility. After all, what was wrong with old management? I don't need free ice! I don't need to detail my RV on site! Just give me some shade in an area that doesn't require arming myself each time I go there! In my quest to find a cheaper, safer and more affordable spot for our RV, I discovered that there is not a close second to what I already had. Why are we leaving Carefree? We have stored our RV on site for what is now 13 consecutive years. Sadly, our RV is old, and I refer to it as a big tent on wheels. Still, now that I am retired, I plan to run our rig for as long as it will go. Should it survive the next 9-10 months I will regret writing this review. I will need a place to store it and I am certain my space will be taken by whoever is reading this now.

However, the NEW Owner is fabulous...and lots of positive improvements have been made to the site. We live in California and have been touring the US for the past five years. We travel for a whIle, then we store our trailer and SUV and fly home...and pick it up when we are ready for our next adventure. Having stored our vehicles at lots of storage places, we have considerable experience for critically evaluating storage facilities and service. However, this is the fiirst Yelp review we have made and that is because of the incredible service and assistance provided by Lisa at Carefreee Storage. On Friday we arrived late in the afternoon...unfortunately, the SUV had a flat tire...not the fault of the storage, a slow leak due to a small screw embedded in the tire. We were going to call CSAA but Lisa immediately brought us compressed air and offered to help jump our vehicle. Also, the washing station was free of charge...we left the storage place with a clean trailer and a happy attitude. We highly recommend this business!

There is no issues with sewer like someone posted many years ago, that was a one off issue it sounded like, 3 years now and everything is great here, no issues. For example, I noticed there was a power outlet on the wall behind our storage spot (coincidence...not planned). Or how about a few days ago: they close the gate at 7pm and we knew we weren't going to make it. I called Dave up to explain and he said, "no problem, use code xxxx and it will let you in and out". So thankful! In fact, when we pulled up he must have seen us on camera as the gate started opening on its own. It's almost weird how helpful he is...all we're doing is storing our crap but he goes out of his way to make sure we have a great experience every trip. And now the road outside is even paved! Not only are Kris & Jim extremely personable, but they are well versed with what it takes to run a secure site. Further, they continually attend meetings/seminars with regard to storage site security and best practices. As a somewhat picky customer, I had questions as to why there were application steps that seemed beyond what I had run into at previous storage facilities, but once explained to me, I was totally on board. Basically, if you're a dirt-bag, don't even bother applying. Jim & Kris do an excellent job of filtering the clientele to limit rentals only to upstanding citizens. This is extremely reassuring. Especially if you don't check your storage site very often. I've only very recently ended my storage rental (no longer needed the extra space), but even the check-out process was as smooth as can be. If I find myself needing storage again in the future, I will definitely be looking for Jim & Kris! In my over 10 years at this facility, I never had any issues, and with the units being climate controlled, I never had to worry about my trinkets and heirlooms baking in the AZ heat. Additionally, the coded entry and exit system also seems efficient and maintains accountability. Top notch peace of mind at a very reasonable rate ...

I had called a month ago to notify my card for auto-debit has been updated, and also to give ample notice of the date I'd be vacating. No prob. Until I get a voicemail saying my payment was declined and I was now charged a $15 late fee. I called to clear the issue- I was met with quite a hostile response. After keeping calm & trying to reason, I got the fee waived. And I appreciate it, even though I do think my new card information was not properly updated. All is well? Upon trying to vacate, my access code was repeatedly denied. She finally opens the gate for me when she sees the moving truck. All is well. Until I can't get out. Magically, the gate opens as I get out & start to walk inside. I don't think any of it was an "accident" or "faulty keypad". To top it off- the movers happened to get a snapshot of the WATER DAMAGE inside my unit. Which, we also noted, compromised my belongings I had stored in there. You could say I am a bit less than pleased with how this ended. No one should be treated rudely for vacating a unit. And, the fact water damage occurred isn't leaving me feeling very confident in recommending or ever opting to re-rent in the future.
