Service was friendly & attentive, food wait times were respectable. Metered street parking on a street that can be tricky to get parking. We had the Cubano Cuban, Beef empanadas, & Coconut shrimp. I also had the 'Renegade' drink. The renegade was really good, I enjoyed the empanadas and their sauce. I wasn't a fan of the coconut shrimps sauce, it was too runny, not solid consistency at all. Stopped by here around 3pm on a Saturday, it was pretty empty. I ordered a mojito with pollo a la plancha and my friend ordered Pollo Picante. Both meals were pretty good, even as left overs, 7/10. Top-tier Food for a great price. Had an amazing time promoting teeling whiskey last night. The staff here was very welcoming. This is a great nice date night place. It is slightly upscale and the prices reflect that. The place turns into a lounge on weekend nights so do not go there late on Friday/Saturday unless you don't mind it being loud with a DJ. That being said, the music is great and it's def a vibe if you are into that. The food and drinks are great. It's authentic Cuban food and you get exactly what you expect. I have been there 3x now and it's always consistently delicious. The mojitos and sangria are everything! They also usually have drink and food specials during the week. The only thing that stops them from being 5 star is the service. It comes up lacking every time. That being said, I think they are just grossly understaffed so there's only 2-3 people manning the entire restaurant which isn't efficient. We have often been trying to track down our waiter for over 10 minutes which after a while you just decide not to order that additional round of drinks or dessert. It's frankly costing them money. When they are attending you though, they are friendly and great. I also hate that they use the mobile card scanners (toast?) for the check which frankly does not allow you to fully look at your check. I got the Churrasco El Gordo Victor with congri, and tostones.The steak was cooked to my liking - medium - and the congri was really good.It came with a side salad and I asked for a side of tostones. Nice latin vibe but honestly, the music is too loud. I could notice that other guests were having a tough time hearing each other once they turned on the music. Host and servers were courteous but I feel like there was a lack of attention. We've been coming here for over 12 years and the food is still amazing! We haven't been in years so my husband and I went last night. We ordered the beef empanadas (filled with beef, no skimping here!), papa rellana (mostly potato but delicious just the same, it's so fresh and pillowy, just melts in your mouth but with just enough crunch on the outside), and picadita (OMG, the tostones chips are a perfect pairing because the sauce is out of control good! We dipped the papas in it lol). Everything was fresh, flavorful, and more than we could finish!! The vibe is Latin inspired so the decor reflects a laid back lounge environment with Latin music. The service and ambiance was great! They also have a ton of specials on weeknights. We chose to order from their tapas style appetizers section of the menu. The croquettes were out of this world! So warm, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside with a great dipping sauce (3 come in a plate and there's only one in the picture cause we ate them before I paused to take a picture haha!) The habanero wings were also very flavorful (and not too spicy). The coconut shrimp felt a little too cripsy/overdone and the dipping sauce & toppings didn't add much to its flavor. The cubanitos were really good! All the flavors of a cuban sandwich in a crispy wonton wrapper. Lastly for the fish tacos (those are the chip cups with avocado in the picture), they were appetizer hence in chip cups. They weren't really my speed. Came here the Saturday after Valentine's Day. We've been wanting to come here for about a year. We tried to come last Valentine's Day but couldn't get a reservation. If you're not from Rahway then note that street parking around the area is tough to find but there's a parking garage directly across the street. The restaurant itself is not too large but has a space in the back to host private events. The food was good but not life changing. We enjoyed our appetizers ( shrimp and empanada) I had the babalu and he the paella. For dessert we ordered the tres leches to go. A couple of things: not sure if because it was so busy but it took our waiter a while to come to our table. We weren't really informed of any specials only that they Valentine's Day menu was still available. I had to ask for them to bring out bread for our table ( after the appetizers had already come out) our entrees took a really long time to come out as well. Just ordered 4 Ropa Veija at $25 each to go - $100 of food and it was atrocious how disappointing it was. A pile of white rice, 4 tiny soggy tostones, and a spoon full of the actual meat. Disgusting they think they can get away with ripping people off because they order to-go they short them on food. Place is a joke. Went back to say something and owner starts screaming, front of house with other customers dining. As beautiful as it is to be black, it's equally challenging. I've eaten at Cubano's a few time, their food is nothing to write home about, and customer service ,by the owner no less, is terrible...at least for black folk apparently. I literally stood at the inside front podium for almost 10 minutes, and ended up leaving because the owner, which I later found out was the man who walked by and looked at me several times, stood at the table of 2 guests, who would probably rather have enjoyed each other's company, talking their head off, instead of taking one minute to acknowledge me. First I came in and stood at the inside podium looking...and waiting...and waiting...and looking saw him walk by and turn and look at me twice, before going/returning to the couple talking to them. I later walked up to the bar and a young (black) lady came over and asked if she could help me and I asked to speak to the owner or manager, and she pointed him out and asked if she could let him know what it's about and after I said "doing business" she said she'd let him know and asked if she could get me anything in the meantime, but I said I'd just wait by the podium. In what was literally about 7 minutes, he never once acknowledged me, or even looked my way afterwards, he even walked over to the bartender and spoke to her, but walked back over to the couple without even a glance in my direction, and I walked out the door. It didn't matter that I was dressed professionally, or was interested in doing business, clearly my skin was a deterrent for him... and therefore, from this day on, so will my business. ( or guava but guava is not offered here) . Anyway the mojitos are delish. $8.50 each unless u are here on Thursday. For my meal - I tried the Babalu- roasted chicken stuffed with a mixture of chorizo, plantain and goat cheese. Came with Mongri ( Cuban rice) and a side of the most delicious Yucca con Mojo! It's a large portion so you could bring a doggy bag home I also got order an empanadas to go Melissa the bartender/server was great. Now before you start reading this and making a decision, look at the food. Exactly. your first instinct is probably saying ehh which makes you correct. Try the Peruvian place that is a few steps down from Cubanu. Place is just MID, just like the food and the service. The drinks weren't strong which is weird because as a Caribbean, I expect two things from Caribbean restaurants: strong drinks and good food. The men bathroom door was open while people were eating like flies.....just go somewhere else. The food took forever, no explosive Spanish flavor. Came here on Saturday with my girlfriends. There is street parking, however I suggest parking in the lot across for just $2. We were seated right away. We started with some Sangria and 2 appetizers the Cuban Iris and the croquettas they were both amazing. We shared a salad and an entree, we had the crab & avocado salad and the "Little Victor's" they were both superb. Now the services was okay our waiter didn't know English which was ok because we all spoke Spanish. You can tell he was new didn't know much about the menu and seemed very confused when asked questions. All in all the food was good and the service okay. Some of my colleagues were looking for a good restaurant close to work for a Cuban sandwich and came here for lunch today on Main Street in Rahway. The restaurant is split between the bar on the right or the main dining room to the left which we chose the bar and were greeted by the bartender/server. Their interesting menu has a broad range of choices of Cuban and other dishes. We decided on their Cubanu Cubano sandwich (lunch portion) consisting of a slow roasted pork layered with fresh ham and Swiss cheese,topped off with thinly sliced pickle and mustard which came with a side of fries. With the first bite, we could taste the freshness of every ingredient on the sandwich. The fries were served warm and crispy.
