The food is solidly 4-5 star! We had a wonderful experience here with the food and enjoyed all our dishes. For appetizers we had clams and mussels. My favorite was the mussel but the kids liked the clams. So they are both winners. Coconut shrimp was also delicious - crispy. We had the paella, skirt steak with shrimp, the flounder and another steak dish with a sweetish kind of sauce. Sorry I don't have the official names of the dishes. The steak with the sauce was a bit too strongly flavored so you lose any sense of the beef flavor. The other dishes were all done nicely. So why did I deduct a star or two? We had a Groupon and at 6:55 we were ready for the check. The waitress asked to see the Groupon, but had to move on before I was able to pull it up. By the time she came back to look at it, brought us our check, come back to pick up the check and credit card (which they never did), getting back the receipt to be signed....Let's just say we didn't walk out until 7:40. This included having to bring the check and credit card to the register since the waitress was too busy to come back for it. We patiently waited for a while and finally at the end I told the waitress we had waited 35 minutes already. Total 45 minutes to get our bill and pay it. Waitress a bit overworked maybe? We had no issues up until this point - service was fine and friendly. I do plan to go back and try it again. The service was nice and friendly for the most part. The hospitality matches the amazing food here at Cubanu! The staff here was so kind! We were greeted very sincerely by the hostess. Our waitress was super friendly and gave some great suggestions on menu items and specials. The atmosphere was chic and cultured. I appreciated that the bar area was separate from the restaurant. The food was delicious! The portions were a great size. The sangria was divine! It was fruity and not overly sweet. It tasted authentic. I understand based on their food and their space why reservations are suggested. We were very impressed by the amount of awards lined up right by the entrance and can tell they were deserved. Hear me out, I got something to say... I found this place in a Rahway Restaurant week advertisement and decided to go for it. It was a Wednesday night in January so it wasn't too crowded. I went with three other people, one of which is Cuban who is use to a good home cooked Cuban meal. The special offered an appetizer, meal and desert from an amended menu. I decided to have the empanadas for an appetizer, pollo al ajillo (boneless chicken breast) for my meal, tres leche cake & sangria. The chicken empanada was good. The chicken had a buffalo sauce, it was moist and flavorful. The beef was good too, it had potatoes with it but it tasted more like a corn beef to me. The main entree was really good. The sauce that the chicken came in was a1. I was literally using what was left of my empanada to get the rest of the sauce. The tres leche was really sweet but was a little dry. Typically there is milk about the bottom of the plate but that was not the case which cause the bottom of the cake to be a little dry. In gathering the entire feedback from the table, the food was good but was missing some things to make it taste authentic. I assume if you are Cuban you may have reservations but as someone not Cuban I enjoyed my meal. My only reservation was our server. He seemed a little on edge that night. He didnt seem as familiar with the menu as we would have liked and at one point we felt a little rushed. Service is a key component to experience and that why I rate this place a 3 instead of a four. Outside of that, the atmosphere was great. When we asked them to turn the music UP a little they honored our request. They have a salsa class so I may go back to check that out. read more

So I'm not usually a fan of Cuban food, but this was great! They had a variety of options that guaranteed you'd find something that you like. I got the sesame tuna salad and found it healthy and well flavored. The goat cheese and spinach empanadas were different for me, but a great combo. The place has a nice atmosphere, very quiet on a Tuesday evening at around 6:30. The staff was friendly too. I love that they have seasonal cocktails for all types of liquor but didn't get to try it. Amidst a growing downtown, this is a little gem (seriously, it's pretty small). I went here on a let's- try- to- work- this- out-date and the ambiance of the place was perfect for rekindling. Despite the wait being nearly an hour (with reservations), the bar area was spacious, welcoming and had live salsa. Throughout the night, you really just wanted to get up and dance, i was really waiting for the servers to break out into dance, they were all so friendly and happy the whole time. Although the place is a little pricey (personally I would skip the appetizers- they are pretty small and entrees are HUGE), the flavor of the food is delicious. I was a bit disappointed with the Tres Leches Cake (supposedly the owner's mom makes it?!?), it was a little on the dry side. And the sangria, it was a bit watered down and not enough fruit (I personally love the fruit in sangria). I was in the mood for Cuban food one night, and my husband and I decided on Cubanu. We ordered take out since we were tired from our morning errands and we weren't really dressed for that type of dining. We ate here a couple years back for my birthday. So this time around I decided to leave a review. I really like their empanadas, dough is great and crunchy but unfortunately for that price I only get 2 which makes me a little sad, at least 1 more would have been great. I could have sworn they use to serve 3 empanadas. Bring it back! The sauce that it came with went well together. My husband ordered the ropa vieja and he loved it. The meat was tender and the sauce was great. The rice was a great and went well with the meat. He also order a side of platano maduro and it was so good. The tostones was a bit hard, salty and dry so we didn't really eat it. I ordered the Cuban cubanu sandwich. And I was a very happy camper. Upon opening the box, there was 2 wrapped sandwiches. Oh happy day! I didn't expect how big the sandwich was. The sandwich taste so goooooood. I loved it. I have many Cuban sandwiches before and this one will be on my list. This was the place to be last night. The Dj was making it hard to sit or stand without dancing. The music was really good. We had coconut mojitos I was amazing, not too strong and not too weak. I've been eating vegan lately because of dairy sensitivities, so it was a little challenging to find options for me here. For apps I nibbled on the plantain chips- which were really crispy and delicious! For my entree, I ended up having to order from the sides menu because there were no vegan or vegetarian options laid out.. and I ordered the yucca con mojo and mixed vegetables. The yucca was strongly soaked in vinegar but I loved it; wish it had more of a garlic taste though. The mixed vegetables were pretty plain, so I asked for a side of chimichuri sauce to add flavor. Overall had an enjoyable dinner with my family but probably wouldn't be my first choice to come to eat Cuban food because of the lack of vegetarian/vegan options. Review 2019: Came on a Wednesday for a dinner with 6 friends. With no reservations and arriving at 7pm, we didn't even need to wait because there was ample room for seating. They had $15 sangria pitchers, which we tried and weren't really satisfied with since the sangria tasted like 70% juice. I noticed the only vegetarian option available was paella and $11-$14 salads that you could order without the bacon/ chicken/ shrimp. I decided that I was hungry enough to not get a salad but not hungry enough for a plate filled with rice and veggies (basically what a vegetarian paella is), so I ordered the spinach & goat cheese empanadas to start and a side of yellow rice & yuca as my entree. Maybe it's not the restaurant that I am blasé about but maybe it's Cuban/Latin food in general. Except for the occasional great Cuban Sandwich, I always seem to find fault with this genre of eatery. Once again, I felt my main course was just so-so. This meal was the roasted suckling pig and to me it was very dry and without much flavor. My wife said she enjoyed her Mariscada dish and I did get to taste Mindy's steak and it was pretty tasty but nothing too special. The service was very good...attentive and helpful. The white Sangria was Ok. The Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert was tasty. I keep expecting Latin Heat and instead find that it always lacks fire. We were sat in the back room and the music was sooo loud, unable to have a normal conversation without yelling over the music and all the other tables yelling to hear each other. Service: Hostess sat us and literally 2 mins later the waiter was asking for our orders. Uh sir, we haven't even read the whole menu yet. Had to keep asking for water refills, waited a long time for entrees and had to go up and hand out payment after waiting about 15-20 mins for the waiter. Now the food. Apps were gross. Everything was overly breaded, fried and it all tasted the same. My entree actually wasn't bad, I got the shredded pork and white rice dish. Pork was tender and pretty good flavor but it needed a sauce or something. Pretty basic meal, would order it again but wouldn't pay more than $10-$15 for it. My boyfriend got the pállela, flavor was decent, but there was barely any seafood. Not worth the price. They have a full bar but no cocktail menu. Missed revenue opportunity on their part. read more

Very impressed by the experience here! Our party of five was seated very quickly. It did take about 20-25 mins to receive our food after ordering but I think it's because the way the food is cooked and arranged (wasn't a big deal for our group because we weren't starving). Love this spot tucked away in Rahway! Walking into the entrance it looks like a small place, but this place is actually broken into a bar area and the restaurant area and it is quite big. Going here for dinner is always a treat. The food is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced for the quality and quantity of food you get. You will not leave here hungry. My favorite appetizer are the plantain chips which is also served with chorizo appetizer. Both are delicious, and I have totally ordered just the plantain chips when sipping on their sangria at the bar. Which leads me into the sangria. It is a unique blend and a very smooth drink to go with dinner. All of the main dishes we've ordered have been delicious. If you're looking for some pretty good Cuban food, this is a great spot to check out. It has an upscale feel to the restaurant which makes for a very nice dinner out. If you want to keep it casual, the bar lounge area is fun to hang out there's also music with a DJ that plays at nights on the weekends. And that sangria! Definitely one of my top spots in Rahway. We went for Sunday brunch and had an amazing time! The food was delicious and on point! The appetizer tasting with the wonton skins and tostones were delicious. The food is good for the most part and the ambiance is nice. The service is just okay. However, I feel like it's too expensive and I wouldn't necessarily offer up this as a suggestion. I love dining out and do so often, but I can't seem to justify spending money on their dishes. It may have much to do with the location. Perhaps because their isn't much else happening in Rahway they feel like people will pay more for the dining experience. Could be true for some. I am originally from NYC, though. Second time here. Has been years since I came. Ambiance is nice and staff very pleasant. Had appetizer platter. Rice balls , empanadas, and Ropa veja. Food had nice flavor but had difficult experience. Didn't have cocktail which was on special. A lot of dishes we asked about were discouraged as they would take too long to cook. A food allergy was communicated from the beginning but as the entrees were being served, the server informed the table that the dish actually had an ingredient related to the allergy, leaving the one with the allergy with no food.After waiting 20 minutes for a replacement meal for the patron with an allergy, while the others ate, we were then one of the last tables. The server offered a free appetizer but never took anything off the bill, and no one wanted to ask. Server came to table with bill saying bar and kitchen were closed without offering a last chance dessert, coffee or other option. A large party gratuity was automatically added for a table of 3. Took my family to Cubanu for dinner again, and as usual, the food was absolutely AMAZING!!! The empanadas, papas rellenas & croquettas are so deliciously authentic. The seared tuna salad was fresh and mouthwatering. The churrasco (skirt steak) was prepared perfectly to my liking paired with congri and sweet maduros. My husband described the shrimp in spicy sauce as "savory." The Mojitos and Pina Coladas are out of this world! And you must save room for dessert. Me and my boyfriend were in the neighborhood wanting seafood, and the fish market was closed so we stumbled upon Cubanu. I am not a big fan of takeout because I don't like reheating my food. Luckily they have joined the several restaurants in NJ who have opened for outdoor dining. The service was fast, the staff was very nice and accommodating considering safety precautions. Stopped by Cubano again for a date night. The service was much faster and our waiter was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the Mar y Tierra which is the skirt steak and shrimp. My dish was delicious and my steak was cooked perfectly medium and was served at a perfect temperature as well. My boyfriend ordered the Churrasco, white rice and black beans. His steak was also cooked to perfection and he really enjoyed his meal. This time around this restaurant offered better faster service and I am pleased with their improvement. Great job Cubano! We had a 8pm reservation and showed up at 745 and we were seated immediately which was great in a little table by ourselves which I liked as well .. the menu was a Set menu meaning we had to choose from what they had .. surprising but I didn't mind as this was my first time their an i'm open to new things so after the waiter came up an told us the Valentine's Day Special we ordered drinks which came about 15 min later 1 beer an 1 sangria .. we put in our orders and appetizers came out about 25 min later .. my husbAnd was already done with his beer by that time and had a little trouble getting another beer cause waiter was busy but he got it ..!the appetizers were delicious just have to admit KID size portions .. Can't say it's on my list of favorite Cuban Restarants and I looooove Cuban food. I feel some of the dishes need to have more flavor. Been here several Tinea and was almost always underwhelmed with the food. The drinks are pretty good. Not a fan of some of the female bartenders when they have attitudes. Last time I came here she one of them acted like she didn't want to serve me at all so I didn't even tip her. Bartenders should be engaging and nice to you. I guess you have to catch them on thier good days. They def need to switch that line up for a more fun crew. read more
