Great spot, go there before word gets out that this is a solid Cuban cafe in East Lakeview. It is counter service in a nice dining room. Authentic with some updates to Cuban classics. We had mostly small plates and the amazing Cubano and Ropa Vieja sandwiches, and it was a lot of food with leftovers for us. Everything tastes fresh and flavorful. The tostones are perfectly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, the croquettas were also well crisped on the outside but creamy and tender to the bite with a nice mildly spiced sauce. We also had the Cuban styled tamales with pulled pork and a tender polenta like masa, and it was topped with white onion and tomatoes. The avocado dip, a take on guac was super bright and fresh tasting. read more

Adorable decor, such friendly people, and DELICIOUS food! Super easy ordering system where you can open a tab on your phone and add items whenever/close out when you're ready. The drinks are so fun, and the food was incredible. Arroz con pollo is big enough to share. I wish we had had room to take home a guava pastry! read more

Phenomenal Churrasco and the best old fashioned I've had, and the owner is wonderful. The homemade chimichurri and service will have me coming back read more

There are two very important keys to a good Cuban place, the Cubano sandwich and the cafe con leche. Every ingredient of the Cubano sandwich was fresh, high quality and delicious! It was meaty and somehow very light/not oily at all. Cafe con leche was perfect. The orange juice is legit OJ, squeezed from real oranges with no sugar added, it was delicious and super refreshing. Boiled Yuka complemented the sandwich well, was fine imo. Overall I'd highly recommend stopping by and enjoying the food. Good for a quick casual eat. read more

Food was great and so was the service. Received our food in reasonable time. The decor was simple and clean and culturally eclectic. Well worth the trip from the south side. Stan's donuts right down the street. Close to Lincoln Park Zoo to make a day of it. Everyone in community is friendly and diverse. read more

Tres leches was quite tasty, but everything else was just ok. Ropa vieja sándwich, cubano, croquetas, and yucca fries. Flan was not good at all, as it was a bit tasteless, though with a slight bitter/burnt taste and consistency was not creamy as I believe they should be. Par for the course though, Chicago's Cuban food scene is generally lacking. Kinda cute inside. Service was just ok and quite unenthusiastic generally. read more

Great neighborhood spot in Lakeview. We got the Cuban sandwich and the fried rice dish. Both were excellent, very fresh. They even had the glass bottled cokes so we had to get one of those too, they just taste better. The service was quick and the staff was friendly. Would definitely go back for eat in or take out. read more

Everything here is fantastic. The decor is absolutely adorable with vintage accents everywhere. It's good for big group dinners but also date night!! You absolutely MUST MUST MUST get the Cuban wrap. I'd say it's one of the best things I've tasted in quite some time. read more

This place is wonderful. I do not normally post reviews but me and my partner came across this place after the farmers market and I was very happy. After coming back from Miami we were on a specific kick. The sandwiches here were sooo good. Easily placed itself as one of the best Cubanos I've had in the city. And this is something I take serious as I love a good Cuban sandwich. The staff was very nice and the coconut mojito was surprisingly (and I mean that) super delicious. It's kind of muddled between some other buildings but I found their atmosphere to be very nice and inviting. Counter service style. Not traditional service. But the menu is well rounded with options. Will hopefully be back soon with the summer coming up and it being in a pretty good area with LP so close! read more

Service was very slow. Not that they were busy, but it seems the cook is on his own time schedule. I ordered appetizers and an entrée. He started making the appetizers after me sitting there for 20 minutes. 15 minutes later he starts on the entrée. I had the potato ball which was pretty good. The chicken empanada was tasty but too much dough not enough filling. The chicken with rice was OK and could have been better. If it did not have a ton of salt in it, I would recommend you give it a try Maybe you will have better luck with the service. read more

This was my first time here and I loved the food, feels like you're in Miami. The food is authentic and fresh! The ambiance is fun, tropical and calm. The yuca fries and empanadas are to die for. I highly recommend! read more

We ordered the ceviche, patatas bravos, cuban sandwich, and pineapple mint smoothie. Everything was well-priced and delicious! The plantains were light (non-greasy), and ceviche and smoothie were very fresh. The portion sizes were good at the price point. The restaurant itself was very inviting, and the staff was nice. Will definitely return. read more

This is a really nice casual spot to grab lunch or dinner with beautiful decor on the inside. I've been here 3 times and have always enjoyed my time. The staff is very kind and will answer any questions you have on the menu. My favorite item I've ordered is the ceviche, tastes fresh and love the crispy plantains chips that come with it. Also love the Cuban sandwich, it's a great option for lunch. I will continue to come back here, glad we have this spot in the Lakeview area. read more

Our first visit was 2 weeks ago with friends and we really enjoyed the food. So much so, we returned with our family for a birthday celebration. Second time didn't disappoint. The lavender margaritas were a fun way to start the evening. For appetizers, we had the plantain chips and the gambas al ajillo. Dinner entrees included the Churrasco skirt steak with Chimichurri sauce, Mojo Pollo, Vegetable Paella and a side of black beans and rice. The added surprise was the delicious Tres Leches cake. We walked out all saying how we look forward to returning soon. read more

We saw this place when we ate at another place across the street. My wife, having a more intimate familiarity with Cuban cuisine than me, seemed excited about what she saw on the menu. So we came back to try. We ordered the Guava pancakes, a Cuban Omelette sandwich, and tostones. We sipped our mildly sweet cortaditos while we waited. The pancakes came and my wife said they were tough and dry. I enjoyed them more than she. I thought the guava was nice enough, and I thought it was not overpowering, and kept the pancake soft enough. While we shared the pancake, it took more than 45 minutes for the sandwich and tostones. I had to go and ask about them. When they asked the kitchen through the window, there was a shared look between the cooks as if to say, "I thought he was doing it." I couldn't hear them over the music, but that was my total inference. Eventually, the sandwich came. Not sure what took 45+ minutes for that. Another 5 minutes for the tostones. We saw tables enter and get served in the meanwhile. It was pleasant enough but the food was only ok considering the wait. I want to give them another chance of for no reason than to try the empanadas. read more

Great simple latin food. We've had the cubano sándwich, churrasco, yuca fries, plantains with ropa vieja, croquetas, and it's BYOB! Definitely a chill place to go with good latin food. Will be coming back! read more

Food was alright, I've had better Cuban sandwiches in the hood! It took over 45 minutes to get an egg and ham sandwich and tostones. The order of guava pancakes were regular pancakes nothing special except the slab of guava sauce they spread on them. I was expecting guava flavored pancakes for some reason, so I can make regular pancakes at home and dab with guava sauce and 'tada' I just made what they did. the servers were really nice :) but Service was particularly slow considering there were only about 6 people including my husband and I. The decor is super cute so it's cool for ordering a cortado and snapping some pictures. My husband wants to give them another shot, I'd rather stay in my hood - Hermosa/Logan/Humboldt and eat some really good Cuban food for less $. read more

It was alright. Fries reminded me of old school bowling alleys food so it get good ratings based on that. Sandwich was decent and reminded me of a Big Mac. Best thing was the smoothies though I think I found a white hair in mine. Okay place read more

Charming ambiance and food made with care. I wish it wasn't BYOB though. Would love to enjoy a beer or spritz with the fare.

You need to try this place!! I live in the neighborhood, and the atmosphere caught my eye. I finally ordered take-out for lunch, and it was fantastic!! Cubaneo - Love how colorful it is - Cuban Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

food was amazing the spot so pretty and clean Highly recommend thanks to our server Verónica it was our first time here and she was so patiente and fast w everything , We will definitely go back read more

Cubaneo It's probably best to dine here by youself or with one other person, since they ignore the fact that your group is dining together and prepare and serve each order for your table as it comes up. They do know who is dining together, because you order on your phone with the QR code for your specific table. So, our group of six got our dinners at four different times. One order was the wrong item and had to be reordered. When the girl was serving this same person, she spilled the drink. She dabbed it with a towel, leaving the table wet and a puddle on the floor, which was never cleaned up. When I tried to order usung the QR code, the app required that I set up a Cubaneo account. I didn't want to do that, so I had to do a verbal order anyway. I asked the group if it was OK if I got the BBQ ribs because the menu said they take 25 minutes. A male server said, "Oh, it won't take that long," so I ordered them. At least a half hour later everyone else was finished with their meal, so I said to the girl serving us, "Don't forget the ribs. The order will be free, right?" (The tab was $21 plus tax.) She smiled and said "Yes." After we left and were walking to our car the male server caught up with us and said to me, "You didn't close out your check." I told him the girl agreed it would be free because everyone else was through eating and I still didn't have my meal. He said, "She doesn't know English." I said, "They should have waited on the other orders so we could eat together, so the ribs should be free." I did leave a tip on the table. He didn't argue the point and returned to the restaurant. I wouldn't have ordered ribs if he hadn't said they would take less than 25 minutes and my friends would all be done with their meals. Five of us liked our dinners, but the friend who got the steak said it was nothing special. The ribs were tender and tasty, served with rice instead of fries, at my request. Nothing else came with the ribs, such as a Cuban version of cole slaw. Those who ordered drinks liked them. Maybe the trick is to order before you get to the restaurant if you're getting something that takes a while to cook, and your dining partners are getting something quicker. Or ask them to serve your group all at the same time or within a few minutes of one another. I'd probably go back with one or two others. The servers were nice, but they didn't manage a group of six well. read more

Truly terrible service and mediocre food. Just one example: Reaching across 3 customers to hand over the wrong food (in spite of having free access to the recipient's side), the waitress caused the spill of a $12 drink. She did not apologize, mop up the mess, or replace the drink. Clueless. read more

New gem in the neighborhood! The cubano sandwich was amazing and the smoothie was full of flavor. All of the staff could not be nicer or friendlier. We will be back! read more

Don't even bother ordering their Cuban sandwich and you can easily tell why based on the photos. Literally no meat on the other half of my sandwich. The moment we received our food we told the server about the disproportionate amount of meat and she said she would let the kitchen know- which never happened. We then flagged another server who was very condescending and replied saying, " I didn't make it." No apologies, didn't offer to take it back to the kitchen so that more meat could be added. Instead they told us to talk to the cook directly, not even sure why there are servers if they cannot communicate with the kitchen. Was I supposed to walk up to the kitchen counter myself and talk to the cook? All of the staff members were very dismissive and refused to make things right. Other things to note is that the wait time for food can be long, but that is understandable. What is not understandable is having poor costumer service and dismissive behavior. This was my second time visiting and I definitely will not be coming back. read more
