Lechon Asado I ordered take out and received a plate of food with a lot of hair.. I'm not one of those weirded out people that freak out at seeing a tiny piece of hair but the THIRD strand of hair was a bit excessive!!!! Food was pretty decent! But i have to give them a 1 star for finding MULTIPLE strands of hair in my dinner! read more

How did I just find out about this place when I've lived next door for 3 years ?!?! Seriously ! I do not care when you live , this place is worth the trip north south east west!! Get how here now ! Food 5 stars!! Jasmine 5 stars!! I sat at the bar after a long day of packing and moving to grab a quick bite. I hit it just right before the dinner rush but as I sat there it started to pick up. The place is quaint as is the bar , but these are the places that I love to visit ! I ordered the Cubano with sweet potato fries and the portion was HUGE! The price quantifies the amount with out question ! The food is traditional and authentic, the space is perfectly quaint and the people are friendly and know the food ! Family Owned and you can feel the warmth and I'm so happy I finally made my way next door !! read more

Cuba 512 - El El Cubano Sandwich - Caribbean Near Me - Austin, Texas

This place is pure trash. How can they call this Cuban food?!?!? We ordered Ropa vieja and the bistec de pollo with plantones. Omg what horrible. The rice and beans had zero flavor tasted as if they poured it out of a can. The rice was stuck together and hard . And the chicken bland. The maduros were coal. They were burnt to a nasty crisp. Not even edible. Disappointment and disgusted. The Ropa vieja was again sub par Ann's awful taste to the rice and beans. Nothing good to say about this place. What a disaster... burnt food. They robbed us of our money and a meal. Don't even try this place. read more

Food was delicious. We ordered takeout and while the food wasn't ready by the quoted time, the staff was nice and were working diligently - 3 servers for about 20 tables. Incredible! We ordered yuca frita, masas fritas and arroz con pollo cubano. Great portions and fresh. You can request mojo for the yuca frita (delicious) and the black beans are quite unique - strong flavors of bay leaves. We loved the delicious flavors and look forward to returning. We've been to one other Cuban restaurant and this was better. read more

the restrictions to cuba are going back in place, but no need to fear, cuba 512 is here! (please laugh @ my corny joke) i've visited cuba and eaten a variety of dishes while i was there. i think cuba 512 did a great job at replicating the flavors of traditional cuban dishes. however, i do think they get to cheat a little because there are more spices available in u.s. i was still very very pleased and so were all of my co-workers. needless to say, i gave myself a firm pat on the back for picking such a great place. in addition to the great food, the service was wonderful. our server said that he loves the place so much, he's been there for 4 yrs. i can't remember the name of my dish but, it came with rice, beans, and a salmon & veggies melody. everything was delicious!! we also had the ceviche & black bean hummus with plantain chips -- yummmm don't forget to order a mojito it's the cuban way read more

Excellent Cuban sandwiches as well as traditional dishes like ropa vieja and Cuban arroz con pollo. Atmosphere could use a little help. Yes, it's in a strip mall, but they could benefit from a better table setup and really need better lighting. I recommend ordering Cuban sandwiches to go. They are just as delicious at home. read more

This is a very cute establishment with awesome Cuban food! The only short coming is the that hostess was a little depressing, but our server was on point. I think he might have been the only one on the floor considering, once it got busy we saw less of him. But it didn't take too much away from great service. He gave great recommendations for food and drinks and our first time experience was fantastic all around. It's a hike from our home to travel this far south, but if we are ever in the neighborhood again we'll for sure stop by again! read more

This place did not disappoint! The cocktails were perfect. I had a mojito and a grapefruit margarita that were perfect. The empanadas that we had as an appetizer were delicious. ThE salsa they served in the side was perfectly heated. Oh and the lechon was soooo tender. The seafood in the Mariscadas was so fresh. read more

Awesome food and almost as good as the Versailles in Los Angeles and Miami. I love their pork dish, black beans all the way. It is a bit precise considering the atmosphere and location in a dowdy strip mall. read more

Lechon Asada with yellow rice and black beans. Huge portion but very bland. I took half home with me for a Barbecue sandwich. A little sauce should perk up that pulled pork. The salmon looked delicious and I was told that it was so maybe I'll try that next time. Our server was slow and when I asked for water without ice I was served water with ice. Such a difficult request. I know. read more

We ordered carry out last weekend. Two Cuban sandwiches with tostones and maduros for the sides. The sandwiches were good but a little burned. The maduros were good. But the tostones were not done. The garlic sauce that came with the tostones wasn't good at all. So I feel like it was just a bad day for them because the food had potential. We will go back soon. read more

If you can't get a Cubano sandwich and tostones right, and you're supposed to be a Cuban Restaurant, where is the hope? The sando is all bread - not enough pulled pork, pickles or mustard. It's barely warm, the one slice of cheese not melted. The tostones are dark (old?) and unsalted. WTH. For almost $20 at lunchtime I expect a bit more. Throw in a garnish or something. Sad. I live around the corner and want this place to be good. First visit in a couple years. Last visit for a number of years. read more

Cuba 512 - El Cubano (The Classic) Sandwich - Caribbean Near Me - Austin, Texas

The arroz marriscada was 98% rice and 2% seafood and incredibly salty. The mussels on top were impossible to open. The fries loaded with cheese and ropa vieja also disappointing. Very Small portion of fries which were swimming in watery liquid leaking off the ropa vieja which was lackluster at best. The shrimps were miniature sized. The service was ok, but when i asked whether there was a full bar, the waittress didnt seem to know and never answered my question & We were never provided a drink list. read more

The sandwiches are huge. Everything had a nice flavor, but sadly the hubby's sandwich had mayo on it instead of mustard that is listed on the menu. He hates mayo, but since the menu listed mustard he didn't think to say anything. Major lesson learned. Prices seem to be high for what you are getting. The server was very nice and patient as we looked through the menu. Overall, the experience was ok. read more

Very disappointing! Great service but food was subpar. A lance was also below average.

UNDERSTAFFED & CARELESS! waited to be seated for about 10 mins because no one was up front. When seated the server brought us our drinks 5 mins later and NEVER RETURNED???????????? We had a women supposed to be serving us and her coworker (a male) was taking everyone's orders and looked at our table and walked away! They had about 6 tables filled with guests and only ONE TABLE HAD FOOD!!!!!!!!!! i heard people complaining that they'd be waiting for their bar drinks for about 15 mins!!! Insane and ridiculous. Prices are all jumbled up. On one page a plate will say $11 and on a different one it says $15. Needs BETTER MANAGEMENT and better STAFF will not return until this is fixed. Seriously upset. First time there and it was a mess. read more

Such a great find! My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday evening. This restaurant is located in a strip mall and has plenty of parking out front. I was looking for a good Cuban restaurant to get a Cuban sandwich and came across Cuba 512. The restaurant is fairly large and we were seated right away. Our server was great, friendly, and super quick with extra requests. They have a wide cocktail selection as well as imported Cuban sodas. If you haven't tried Iron Beer yet, this is your chance! I got the Cuban sandwich with a side of tostones and my boyfriend got the Ropa Vieja. The food came out really fast and was so good! I got a side of the aioli to dip my tostones and sandwich into and it was a game changer. I've never had a Cuban sandwich that was so juicy, but the bread was still crispy! I found the portions to be big so I took home a whole half of my plate and my boyfriend did too. The Ropa Vieja was really good as well and came with rice, beans, and tostones. Overall I had a great experience and would give 4.5 stars if I could. While we were eating there a lot of people were picking up to go orders which is nice to know that's an option as well! I will definitely be coming back and recommend everyone to try Cuba 512! read more

One of the most bland meals I've ever eaten at a restaurant in Austin. Actually kind of insane that this meal was $19 when all I got served was unseasoned rice, unseasoned beans, and dry steak. Please at least put some salt/pepper/hot sauce out on the table. Service was good and servers were nice so that's about it but food was not worth the money. read more

Came here specifically to try the El Cubano as that is one of my favorite sandwiches. Sandwich was amazing!! Have to say one of the best Cubano sandwiches I've ever had!!! Sandwich is huge and I have a tendency to eat a lot, but was very satisfied. I was here in the mid afternoon and the place was pretty slow, not sure how busy they get during lunch or dinner but I'll be back for sure! Price was very reasonable and Friendly staff as well. read more

Drinks can be pricey for the dark atmosphere but their empanadas are terrific and worth the visit!

The food is solidly tasty - chicken falls off the bone tender with large portions- although there might be off nights according to some of these reviews, but I've never had a bad experience. It's the price that consistently is creeping up with little change to show for it. I think it's the location or perhaps they have been struggling since covid, maybe mgmt problems? It's great food and healthier compared to some but for someone that would order here more , I just can't with these prices. I'd save my money and go downtown for 20 bucks a person (1 entre and a Coke) If the prices do go down (about 12 bucks a plate on average would make it worth it) - it would match the ambiance and I'd take (or order for) my family more. I'm Puerto Rican and Cuban food is very similar so I can get my fix but can't go as often because the value is not there. I hate to see them go under but if they don't figure out the balance of cost and flavor consistency- they just might. :/ (They also do the whole styrofoam take out boxes and in this day and age, there's no excuse for not using something earth friendly.) read more

They opened March 3rd and I went on March 26 and 27. That in mind, here was my experience. I ordered takeout the first time and had apps and mojitos the second time. Interior: The bar has these very tall chairs, fit for a giant, but then the architect made the bar itself too tall. Same for the booths. The booth is shorter than the table, by about a foot. The interior involved lots of Cuban murals, and very slow moving ceiling fans that look as if they are being fanned by the ocean air. I really liked the ambience, once I was inside, and not staring at the Dollar Store next door. Drinks: The drinks are great, and $4 during happy hour for a pint-glass of mojitos that are hand made at the bar. Food: Tried the ropa vieja (beef) and the lechon asada (pork) as well as an empanada filled with eggplant. First of all, the eggplant empanada was huge! It was the size of three McDonalds apple fritters squashed together and had the same consistency. And it was $2. I picture the more typical empanadas, that are drier and tiny and filled with meat and raisins and whatnot. The lechon asada, that comes with rice and beans, was a bit on the greasy side. And the ropa vieja was not super memorable. The plantains were really yummy. And the maduros (fried plantains) were like little plantain potato chips. The apps were the guacamole with fried plantain chips and that was pretty tasty; the yucca con mojo is an enormous mountain of food drizzled with mojo (oil, lime juice, garlic, and cumin); the croquettas (one with fish and one with pork but the waiter was unable to tell us which was which). I don't know Cuban food that well so I'll just say I'll be trying the all-day sandwiches next. Service: No water ever arrived. And no waiter knew which table should have which dish? Yours? Yours? Yours? Ours! And then it was 20 minutes to get the bill. But the bill was twice what it should have been because it had yours, mine, and ours listed on it. 20 minutes later we get the revised bill (the computer's fault is what we were told), and then it was 20 more minutes before the payment was taken. The Cuban motto might encourage kindness above all else but after a twenty minute wait in the parking lot on the front end, it sort of adds up. Yes, we were hostages on a Friday night, but we made it out. And, yes, we will be back. read more

Great little spot in Garrison Park for a quick bite and drink. Our server was super friendly.

My husband was having a craving for Cuban food, and we decided to grab takeout from here. The Cuban loaded fries were good but the portion size was pretty small for the price. My husband opted for the Mariscad a cubana for his entree, and while it was good it could have had more seafood for the price. I chose the Arroz con pollo and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The chicken was packed full of favor and perfectly moist (it's always a worry if chicken will be too dry!). The rice for both entrees was incredibly delicious and flavorful- and I'm pretty particular with rice so I was pretty impressed. Overall we enjoyed our meal and we definitely want to come back and try more of their entrees. read more

Take it from a guy who's gone to hundreds of Cuban restaurants across the country and grew up in Miami eating the most authentic Cuban food you can find. This place is overpriced (19 bucks for a small portion of rice and protein with a side) the food is as far from authentic taste as you can get and if you don't mind having to down 4 waters because the Ropa Viaja went through a salt bath. It's sad, Austin lacks authentic Cuban food and by the way Cuban food should always be good on the wallet and taste.. I eat the whole thing- I wanted to be 100 percent sure but dam! Salty salty salty.... 1 Star - Good Service 0 Stars - Food Over-salted for Cuban food - says a lot. 0 Stars - not authentic Cuban vibe. Recommendation to Restaurant Owner - Go to Miami eat at a few Cuban restaurants.. then go ahead and model it here. - big portions and reasonable prices. Eventually a Cuban from Miami will come here and blow you out of the water. Keep the wait staff they are awesome, and my review is in an effort to have an amazing Cuban restaurant in Austin. Do better for your customers - taste your dishes before you send them out. My blood pressure will thank you. Good Luck. Thanks for at-least having great service. Yours truly- Cuban Guy from Miami.
