Short of it all: I was treated very rudely by the owner. I don't know how businesses like these survive with such bad attitude. Long version: After returning to CT Automotive to ask for their help on my 911, he gave me a lecture on why I don't come to him (the owner) for oil changes. He gave me a "I'm disappointed at you" huff, like I cheated on him. It went downhill from there; he then decided to charge me for his tech to quickly look at the car (which is reasonable), but then said, "if you would come to me for oil changes, then this would not be a problem." That's when I decided to walk away. "I have to run a business here"... yep, and part of doing business (and just life in general) is being civil and respectful. You could have charged me for the diagnostics, and you could have probably made more money with the subsequent repairs... but your ego just got in the way. read more

Tony and his technician Julio have been working on a couple of my cars - an older Cayenne and a 1997 993. I got the Cayenne pretty cheap from a friend because he couldn't get any one good to work on it. I have been to many Porsche specialists here in the Bay Area, and I can confidently say that CT Automotive is the one I should have gone to first. A little backstory - about a year before I found Tony & his shop, I started feeling a frustrating vibration in my Boxster's suspension that I could not track down. I went to many other specialists and they could never definitely fix the problem or say what the problem was. I bought new tires, I replaced various components, I had the car aligned, nothing fixed the problem. I was honestly on the verge of selling the car because I could no longer enjoy it. I decided to take one last chance with a shop before putting the car up for sale. Tony actually took the time to diagnose the car - he drove it multiple times - and was honest in saying that what he did (turns out the shop that balanced my tires did a poor job and it had to be re-done) fixed the issue for the most part, but that it would need some slight alignment tuning to fully fix. He was honest, upfront, communicative, and, to top it off, he charged me what he quoted me. He said he put an hour and a half into the car (I wouldn't doubt that he put even more in to it) and charged me exactly that. I know for a fact that other specialists I have gone to would have easily rounded it up to two hours, and I probably would not have complained. I've been going to CT Automotive since I purchased my 1987 Carrera 11 years ago (they were recommended by several PCA members). They've done pretty much all of my work, minor and major -- the car now has a little over 200,000 miles and they did a complete top end job about 2 years ago. This car runs perfectly -- revs easily, starts easily, and never misbehaves. We have 6 cars (mostly older, but a couple of newish ones) and my wife always comments that the Porsche has been the only truly trouble-free car we've ever had. Part of that is because 1987 is a great year for Porsches, but a lot of it is due to the excellent maintenance provided by CT. They've always done thorough, clean and correct work, without overselling stuff I don't need. Their mechanics take pride in their work, and truly love Porsches. I've recommended several prospective Porsche buyers go to them for pre-purchase inspections, and they've always been satisfied with the results. I know reliable (and friendly) Porsche service is not always easy to come by, so I'm sure happy that CT is nearby -- in fact, their new location is even closer to my house. read more

I have been a car nut for years. So when I was looking at buying a newer performance car, I needed a shop to look after it. I dislike dealerships as they overcharge and never do very good work. In the old days I could do the work myself, but with newer car technology these days, I just can't other than programming the ECU, getting dirty on a new car is not an option for me anymore. Anyways I met the owner of the shop, Tony through a mutual friend and we talked about cars for a while. I told him I would stop by and take a look at the shop. So I did and really liked what I saw. I saw a very clean shop that worked on a lot of different kinds of newer specialty cars including a few race machines. That really peaked my interest as if your shop is well maintained and you also work on exotic cars/race cars you generally know what you're doing. That's always been a good sign for me. As a former racer, I know that those kinds of shops are REAL car guys who do it because they enjoy it, not just a job. There is a big difference there. I trust they know what their doing. I took my car in and had them do a full service on it. I forgot to mention the screen that comes up that it needs a "A3" service, but they took care of that as well. They did the full service, kept the car clean and let me know what was what and took care of everything, even things I forgot to mention as what's part of the service. I am a car nut as I said and I am looking to upgrade the C63 with some add-ons and will have them do the work. There is something to be said for a clean shop. I have been around shops for years, most are dirty grungy shops with mechanics that are a little nuts. This is a different feel and a different shop. Great experience with CT Automotive. Tony was able to fit me in the same week for motor mounts on my 944. On the day scheduled for service I brought my car in right as they were opening. While I talked with Ryan a delivery came in with my parts, great timing. Then was thrilled to get a call that afternoon that the car was ready. I brought it in at 8 AM and they called me at 4 they had it (and at the price he promised!) and told me to go ahead and pick it up. This is a great shop. We took a used Porsche Boxster S to Tony to do a pre-purchase inspection. He did a very thorough job and found things i don't think another shop would of caught.
