I referred my daughter to him, her car had less than 40k miles He called up saying that the breaks were metal to metal. My daughter just bought the car money is tight but he but the fear in her that it is unsafe. I only write reviews if I have something good to say! And this is very good! I almost had an accident due to my Jeep shaking and dying on the freeway. What I thought was something wrong with the engine, turned out to be 'Death Wobble' (check it on YouTube)! Gilbert was being professional and tried to replicate the problem, but was unable to - so we ended up agreeing to update my entire front end suspension. It was the only way to replace all the worn out ball-joints (did I mention my Jeep is a 1998?!?) and that fixed the problem! No more felling like my Jeep was about fly into pieces. They are very professional, and even though they specialize in foreign cars, I now take my Jeep there for maintenance! read more

Buyer Beware! Been going to Golden Auto Care for over 7 years and I've been happy with the work, so I thought! My last trip there, I asked Gilbert to do a major service on my Truck like tune up and replace all the fluids. Come to find out two years later that a lot of my fluids were not changed out! I had to take it to the dealership to find this out because my truck was making some weird noises. Also, Their Invoices doesn't list all the work they've done and all the parts they've replaced. You will have to ask them for the information and write it down yourself. read more

While Gilbert acted like he knew all about Turbo Diesel Vehicles, in reality he didn't know anything about VolksWagon TDI's. I had him change my glow plugs which he did fine but he said my water pump was leaking.It required taking Timing Belt off. He didnt tension the tensioner at all it was supposed to be at 52 degrees it was at zero. If the belt had jumped a tooth it would have destroyed my engine. I didn't trust him to make it right so I found a TDI expert who used to work at my favorite shop in Santa Cruz and he charged me $1050 to fix Gilbert's mess up. I asked him to refund my money and he would not.Now I have to take him to small claims court. While he probably knows gas engines DO NOT TRUST HIM WITH A DIESEL. I learned a lesson the hard way. read more

I found Gilbert at Golden Auto Care a couple years ago after a not so great experiences at BMW dealer(s) and another local foreign car mechanic. A FB plea for a good mechanic after bad experience elsewhere resulted in a friend's recommendation. So, I'm not sure about the occasional bad reviews here (suppose you'd have to be suspicious if things were all rosy for everyone). ...and I really doubt he would be dishonest as to pay or game the yelp system. I'm not a car expert by any means, but I do read folks pretty well and GIlbert is a top notch guy. I don't have diesel. I have taken my 3 series and X5 here for about 3 years. I find him honest, explains things in simple English I understand, and his prices are fair. He makes no promises and finishes the job when he says he will. I would trust him as my lifelong mechanic if we weren't leaving the area, and I'm strongly considering driving up from Monterey for tune-ups/service. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I've felt cheated and burned in the past by auto dealers and mechanics. I have a pretty cynical attitude toward them in general (like the other reviewer's "just another crooked mechanic shop"). GIlbert is a different breed altogether and his conduct, kindness, expertise, and professionalism has really been a breath of fresh air. read more

Seeing that they were ASE certified and qualified in Honda repair, I decided to go with them. I am glad I did! I think I found a mechanic for as long as I am in the South Bay area. Anyways I accidentally parked in one of the 20 available parking spots, he must of watched me and parked a car behind me purposely as if it was a joke. He then acted like he didn't have the key when I asked who's car it was! I walked around the parking lot asking everybody in sight as he probably laughed with his crew of workers which one tried to hit me with a socket wrench "Franklin is his name. I never have yelped but this is the absolute wrong way to treat someone. Gilbert unfortunately your not Doing your business any good. Please retire do a job where you are not able to socialize or speak to another human being. The way you represent your company with cuss words and disrespect has been the most horrible experience. Shady. Do not trust. My car was towed here by mistake, it was supposed to be towed a few shops down in the same parking lot area. Didn't think it would be such a huge deal. My mechanic walked over there and tried to explain and bring it to his shop a few feet away. They wouldn't release my car unless I paid them money. They had my car for exactly 6 minutes; phone call at 1:19pm today saying they received my car then I called them back at 1:25 to ask who they are and realize they're not my usual mechanic. They went from being nice to being very butthurt and snarky within a few seconds, saying they have to charge me $60 for the 6 minutes of "work" that they did. I would never trust these people, they sounded very shady and dishonest, and he thinks he can charge someone for a 6 minute diagnosis without any contract or verbal agreement to start working on my car. I will report to BBB also. read more

went to Gilbert by referral though he said that he can not tell how much it will cost till he work on it. I explained what I was told at smog station. the engine lamp was on. I was told it should be less that 300 to fix, at smog station, but was told by Gilbert that nothing can be less than 300 to fix a car. then I asked around and a friend's dad trust mechanic called T&B and he does operate by himself long time with small trusting clients, I was told he is very honest and never over charge. his garage is not so beautiful as Gilbert's at all but boy he did fix everything 200! and told me the brakes to replace needed within 6months, but I could pass smog just fine!!! I am glad not to ask at this place. though the place looks nice and shiny and he may be does great job on BMW which was there. read more

MECHANIC IN NAME ONLY.HE'S NO MECHANIC BUT CLUELESS!!! People in office great and tow truck driver also are great. Mechanic is horrible. Their diagnostics is $169 and it was garbage. Just a way to steal money from you. For $169 they told me things like my shocks were old, etc. Meanwhile the truck wouldn't run. I suspected the fuel pump was bad and because the truck was sitting for a while and the pressure was low and hardly any fuel was getting to carb. I didn't have the time to change the fuel pump myself so I took to Golden Auto. Big mistake. I wrote a statement telling the shop to test and replace the fuel pump .The psuedo mechanic told me the fuel pump was fine and the carb was bad . He adjusted the carb said I could drive it home. Drove it one block from the shop and it died. Had to tow it home. I could put the carb in myself because the shop said a new carb would be very expensive. So I bought a new carb($360.) I so I bought a new carb thinking I was wrong, (I'm not a mechanic and neither was this imbecile ). I changed out the carb and same trouble. I CHANGED OUT THE FUEL PUMP AND IT RUNS!!! AMAZING. JUST LIKE I TOLD THEM TOO!!! I will never go back to that shop again. read more

That still may be the case but the guys at Golden Auto Care have always been honest with me. Every time I take a vehicle in there, they show me the broken part, and explain to me what was going on. I am so happy with my car that if more stars were possible, I would gladly give them! Both of our cars are made by Honda, so we never really have major, mechanical needs. We just have the normal maintenance or brake issues, for which we've always brought our cars to Golden Auto and Gilbert. For the last month or so, my car has been making the most awful, metal-on-metal noise I've ever heard. Since Golden Auto is closed on the weekends, the only days we can be without a car, we had to take it to a mechanic open on either day. Over a period of 3 weekends, we took the car to the dealer and we even tried 2 other shops that were open. Finally, my husband took a day off and drove my car to Gilbert. After a brief chewing out for waiting so long, Gilbert showed my husband some shoddy work done by these previous guys and he even fixed my scraping sound! Hooray! Now I can drive my car without looks from passers by. Thank you, Gilbert, for your expertise and efficiency! We trust him completely with our car and won't wait again if anything else goes wrong. This morning my car broke down right by this Auto shop, good thing they open at 8AM. I had couldnt start my car and had gotten it jumped, I knew I had to get it serviced today, good thing I followed my instinct. I had originally wanted to go to the White Oaks Auto Shop but it wasn't open until 9AM. When my car dead on me, Gilbert, the owner and his team pushed the car into his shop. While waiting for my car to get fixed. I can see Gilbert talking to his customers as though they are family. One of his customers were telling me that they've been coming to him for years and told me they only trust him. After chatting up with him while waiting for my car to get serviced, I can see why people come to him. Gilbert seems to be honest and he makes efforts to make his customers feel more than just his customers. Although it was embarrassing to have my car breaking down but I'm glad it broke down in front of his shop. I'm just a little surprised that he doesn't have very much reviews on Yelp. Gilbert is fantastic!!!! I have a Honda and called a Honda dealer/service center asking what it would cost to fix my windshield wipers. They quoted me over $200 just to do a diagnostic test -- before even parts and labor!!! (I don't accurately remember the cost, but I do remember being shocked at just the diagnostic cost; I believe it was over $200). Well, a friend told me about Gilbert so I visited his shop. His diagnostic test cost much less than what Honda was going to charge, so I chose Gilbert. The switch was ordered (costing less than what I saw on the internet) and installed to my great satisfaction! We brought our Mazda truck to Golden Auto Care. We needed A/C compressor, etc. We've had work done there previously. Gilbert, the owner, was knowledgeable and provided a very competitive quote. He is a fair and honest businessman. Gilbert acquired all the necessary parts and repaired our truck in less than four hours (we had anticipated that the repairs would take more than a day!). The cost of the repair was half the cost that the Mazda dealership would have charged. He used all OEM parts. Service was excellent. We highly recommend him for any work that you need done on your vehicle. Car repairs are not fun or easy. But Gilbert made the experience seamless and stress-free. Just over 3 weeks ago I was having an intermittent problem with my Honda which caused the motor to die suddenly while driving. This was beginning to happen more & more frequently. I happened to be searching for another auto repair business near Golden Auto Care in Campbell when my car died again just as Gilbert was closing up his shop on a Friday evening. He took the time to talk with me and I decided to take a chance and have him diagnose the problem due to his extensive Honda experience (my regular mechanic had failed on several attempts to resolve this issue). I'm very glad I did as he was able to quickly identify the problem as an electrical relay under the dashboard that controls both the fuel & ignition. As a college student what I learned from this is that it's better to have a mechanic who has adequate experience with the specific type of vehicle you drive and not just shop for one based upon price only.
