This place is terrible. The quality of service is awful, and the workers are incredibly rude. If I could give zero stars, I would. They did a horrendous job on my toes, and when I went to pay and tipped $5, they had the nerve to say, "That's not enough." I ended up giving them more just to avoid a scene, but first of all, tipping is optional! I walked in for a quick service, and at no point did they mention that tipping was required. I have been going to Crystal nails consistently for almost 2 years for acrylic nails and they do a fantastic job! There are not a lot of places in the area that do quality acrylics so I was very relieved when I found them. They are fantastic at shaping and filing, and do a diligent job each appointment. I will say, their specialty is definitely not fun designs or chromes or anything but to me the quality of nails themselves is so worth it. Highly recommend! read more

I come here all the time and I loved how these two men did my nails. When I came in today I asked for french pedicure with overlay on a couple broken toes like I always get. She said she can do it no problem! Halfway through she proceeded to start painting my nails, without applying the overlay. My baby toe was so short, it wasn't going to work without overlay. I told her about the overlay and she said it was too late which I responded "how, If I asked you in the beginning?" She called somebody else over to help with my toes. They applied the overlay so thick. It looks ridiculous. (Look at both my baby toes!) I told them multiple times it looks bad, the overlay was two thick, and they didn't do anything about it. There was two ladies doing my French, so it's not symmetrical at all looks extremely janky. Ive been getting French on my toes and ITS NEVER LOOKED SO GROSS, just look at the photos (I posted on their Google review page)...After I paid, I was clearly unhappy and showed the manager my toes which she laughed and said she was sorry and asked if I wanted the white on the French to be thinner and I said no I've been here 3 hours I'm going home... now I have to go spend more money to fix them. Side note. The people that know me in there know I tip $20 a hour so I've always tipped amazing and my job requires pretty classy feet and this is horrible. You may think these are acceptable but im a perfectionist and would never walk around like this. If you zoom in on each toe you will see what I'm talking about there's white paint all over my cuticles and in the sides of my toes this is unacceptable for a FRESH PEDICURE. read more

Picked this place because it was just around the corner and for its price. $30 no chip manicure & $22 pedicure. I would come back here again if I was back in town. The brand of nail polish they used was OPI. They also have Essie and China glaze? Definitely enjoyed the foot scrub and lotion rub on both my feet and hands. The service was friendly. You don't pay for the environment. It's a one stop nail service. In and out. Nothing fancy about this place. I think the price makes up for it. I called another fancy place and they were charging $60 total for what I wanted... Not a fancy place if you're looking for something fancy but they do get the job done. I came here for a manicure recently. The people at this salon are super friendly and very patient. However, my nail tech cut my cuticle pretty badly. I have had people nick a cuticle before, but this time she took like a chunk out. The cut scabbed over and is still here four days later. Besides the scab, the polish still looks good and hasn't chipped much. The salon also includes a $2 surcharge if you pay by card. They have a lot of different colors to choose from and the manicure itself went by pretty quickly. But realistically, I'd rather have a manicure take a little more time and not leave bleeding. read more

Was excited to try this place out as it's right by my office. Walked in and it's small, dark and not very appealing to the eyes - looking back I should have immediately walked out but I'm all about giving places a chance. They told me to pick out my colors and I was shocked to find they didn't have OPI's Lincoln Park After Doctor but again, giving them the benefit of the doubt. I sit down for my pedicure and while the tech was very thorough, she spent the entire 40 minutes of my pedicure rambling in a different language to no one in particular. The pedicure chair was also incredibly uncomfortable and the massage part was painful. I moved to get my manicure which was okay but started chipping the very next day, which means to me they used a shitty top coat. The tech who did my manicure also seemed shocked I would need help carrying my bag, coat and shoes over to the dryer. Really? I thankfully was able to carry the items without smudging my fingers but needless to say, I will not be returning to this place ever again. Oh did I also mention the $2 fee for paying with a card that's against their agreement with the card company? So not impressed. read more

My nails are poorly shaped, polished was applied sloppy. I would never go back and spend my money .

My nails look awful. I got an acrylic manicure done with gel coat. The extensions were glued on facing upwards making my nails look like witch hands. I asked for a coffin shape, and my manicurist gave me uneven sides, and not a straight edge. THEY COULDN'T FILE A STRAIGHT LINE!! My nails are crooked and so thick off my nails it's atrocious. They didn't cut my cuticles either. The whole thing was promised to be thirty but the after gel and tip it ended up being fifty. It was an awful experience and I also had to wait thirty minutes. If you want a good manicure, don't go here. read more

They give a great pedicure for $20. The space is nothing to look at, but its pretty clean. The ladies all do a great job. They scrub, soak, massage and polish til my toes look refreshed. They have great massage chairs. Not so great magazine selection, but no one is perfect. There's lots of colors to chose from. Every time I have been here, I have gotten a great pedicure for an amazing price. Most nail salons in Chicago have an inflation of nail prices that is getting out of control. read more

I left the former place and followed Mimi to Crystal Nails. I love, love going there because I often feel as though it is a female equivalent to a "Barber Shop", a place for girlie gossip and silliness. Mostly, I just love the fact that my nails stay completely polished and look perfect for nearly 10 days. I get my nails done every 10 days and that works out great. I discovered Crystal Nails on a whim and I'm glad I did. I was in the neighborhood and needed a mani really quickly. I was originally going to visit Elegant Nails on Clark & North because they have really inexpensive $10 manis. However, they were packed and the lady said it would be at least a 30 minute wait. I didn't have the time, so I whipped out my Yelp app and looked for a another nail salon nearby. Enter Crystal Nails. I called ahead to see how much a mani would be & if I needed to make an appointment. No appointment needed and the mani was only $11. Perfect. There was plenty of parking on Wells and I walked in the salon and was immediately seated at a manicure station. They have A LOT of polish choices. They run the gamut from OPI, China Glaze, Orly, Essie and a bunch of other random brands I'd never heard of. They also offer a variety of no-chip colors as well as Minx, eyebrows and eyelashes. Anyway, on to my manicure experience: The woman doing my manicure was fast and efficient. And when I say fast, I mean fast: She had my nails filed, buffed, cuticles removed and polish applied in about 20 minutes. It was a great experience not having to sit there for a long time AND my nails look great (I chose Essie "Turquoise & Caicos" for my color). The decor at Crystal Nails is definitely no frills at all. There are 3 mani stations, 3 pedi stations and 3 very efficient looking nail techs. When I walked in there were two other ladies getting their nails done and one of them even had two nail techs working on her at the same time--one doing her pedi and the other removing her no-chip manicure. Oh, AND as I was waiting for my nails to dry, the lady who had just finished my manicure ran out to the front and parallel parked a customer's car for her. She seemed like she was a regular, but STILL, how awesome was that? Long story short, I will definitely come back to Crystal Nails to get both a mani and a pedi in the future. I only got a manicure which was $11, but the sign said a pedi was $20 and I think for both it's $30. Not bad at all. This is my go to spot. I get my acrylics done here over all places in Chicago. I used to go to a spot that was out in Wicker but the travel became to hard and this is much closer to my place. Its walk in only which kind of stinks because its usually a pretty long wait. Its well worth waiting though if you have the time! The girl who does my nails does a FANTASTIC job. My acrylics grow out perfect and don't damage my nails like most places do. This place gets it right! Great color selection too! The manicurist is good at shaping the nails exactly how I want them and they're never too thick! Ive had a pedicure here a few times and they're not to bad either. Not the best but it gets the job done! I recommend this place to anyone who loves their acrylics as much as I do. I would bring CASH if you come to this spot though so you don't have to be charged a little extra for using your credit card. But on the plus side, at least you can tip on credit! I've been here at least 6 different times this last year and I'm definitely a fan of Tammy because she really takes her time to listen carefully to what you want and I've had my long nails shaped and painted chrome by her without worrying that my nails will be different lengths or too narrow. Tammy takes her time with manicures, soaking off old acrylic product and pedicures. She's consistently good at what she does and she's very generous with the products meaning she uses enough acrylic and no chip gel to get your nail strong enough and wide enough so they will not chip or break off. I've never been rushed or disappointed and if you bring in your own chrome powder Tammy is happy to apply a chrome mirror of your own personal choice at a very fair price! I also wish to add that my prior manicurist at a different nail salon in Wicker Park never bothered to soak off my acrylic powder nails in the 1.5 years I had been a loyal client. Tammy was very gentle and patient during the soak off process and it didn't hurt or bring me any feelings of discomfort. I believe Tammy is one of the few good manicurists here in the Chicago area to actually care enough to work slowly just to insure the customer receives quality, unrushed services. She's skilled with broadening your own natural nail bed and using enough acrylic so that your nails won't break. I think the prices here are reasonable and the work consistently good! read more

Never been to a nail salon where i wasnt greeted or even acknowledged (it's a tiny place with only a few people there impossible not to see someone walk in). After 10 minutes of standing there one of the ladies finally asked what i needed. Being that only 2 people are working amd 3 other clients waiting, i understand the 1 hr wait. The only reason i decided to stay was because of all the reviews for their work with acrylic nails. I'm so picky with how its done, i hate when they do it thick. My place back home in cali does them so thin & natural no one would ever know you have acrylic nails on. Now to the most important thing, their work...i was really happy with Amy's work. I actually discovered this little nail shop on my break from work. I needed a quick affordable acrylic fill, and this has quickly become my go-to place. Typically around $15 for a fill, their prices can't be beat. And I'm always satisfied with the result. I don't treat myself to pedicures often, but I did this past week and couldn't be happier (especially with the pricing of $20). The staff is very friendly, and there hardly is ever a wait (though I always recommend calling a little ahead of time to make sure they're not backed up). Their work is good and always quick (a fill usually taking about 30-40 minutes including drying time). If you're looking for the full spa treatment, this isn't your place. One of the worst nail salons I've ever been too! I visited them twice to make sure I was doing an in dept review. The 1st visit, was the 4th of July weekend and they were closing early. A customer was joking about going to that liquor store on the corner and taking shots with everyone and lord and be hold, he comes back in the salon with 3 bottles and they all took shots. I know some salons offers alcohol for clients but they stopped working on people to drink. All I could do was laugh but hey its their salon. I got acrylics and they were slightly thicker then what I like but the color application is what threw me off. It was streaky and I had an air bubble on my thumb. 2nd visit, I got the same service $22 pedicure $23 acrylics and it was completely empty. Since they werent in a rush, I thought everything would be perfect but nope! My acrylics were a MESS this time. They were super thick, werent filed down enough and she only applied one coat of polish. I can understand if it was opaque and 1 coat was enough but I choose this color called snow bunny or funny bunny (a white color) so it turned out looking more like a frosty color than white. She also got some of the acrylic powder all over my fingers and didnt bother cleaning it off. For the area, they are relatively cheap but I wouldnt mind paying a little more or going further out of my way for better service. If you want just a basic pedicure, then maybe but I would never come back for my acrylics. *P.S. make sure you bring cash. They charge you $3 or $4 for using a credit or debit card. read more

It is nice and clean and will get the job done for the lowest price that I know of in the area. However, my polish job looks no better than if I had done it myself. There is still polish on the skin of most of my toes. There are visible brush strokes in the polish that made it onto my nails. (When I was there I thought it was just reflective, or I would have had it fixed). It was also pretty quick, full mani and pedi in less than an hour. I probably won't go back. The one I am talking about is also on Chicago ave. I purchased an online deal for a bikini wax and let me tell you it was horrid. They ushered me into the salon and sat me in a chair while they talked in another language about me having a coupon. Then they took me to their waxing room which is apparently also their employee storage room. There wasn't even room for my coat or my pants! She stayed in the room with me while I undressed which made me uncomfortable and asked me to lay on a dirty bed (at least it had paper on it). She answered her cell phone during it and proceeded to continue to wax me. She went over the same areas so many times that I was bleeding when I left!!! At that point I just wanted to get the hell out and once the pain went away I discovered she didn't even get all the hair. This place should NOT be offering waxing with a job like that. read more

I love this place. I have been going to other salons closer to my work but had time to go here today after at least year and I LOVE my nails. I had a mani pedi. I forgot how much care they put into your nails and what a great job they do and for one of the more reasonable places in Old Town area. I will be back permanently.
