My husband and I have both been patients of Dr. Richard Simons at Reading Dental for many years. We…read morelove Dr. Simons so much that, even though we moved to Florida almost three years ago, we still fly back home to Boston for all of our dental needs. This week we are in Boston for some family visits. I called his office seeing if I could possibly get a last-minute appointment while we're here because I needed some work done. Not only did he get me in for a last-minute appointment, he spent two hours with me in the chair. I swear I feel like a new person. He did an incredible job as usual. He also replaced a filling for my husband who came with me without an appointment. He is without a doubt THE best dentist in the north shore area!!!! And he is not only a great dentist, he is a very compassionate and caring person.

When I first visited Dr. Simons I had not been to a dentist in over a year and wanted to find the right dentist and establish a place to go. So needless to say I was a little hesitant at 1st to have him do anything except teeth cleaning. Since I had not been in over a year they they used a 'power scaling' device to clean all the tarter. I went back on a regular basis - actually every 3 months to make sure I was on track. I think I waited until at least a year or two to go by before I actually had him do any work on my teeth. He was very consultative in his approach, conservative and giving me options along the way over the past 25 years. I had some cavities that had been filled for many years. We replaced some of them slowly. We also did inline work, and finally when I split a molar that had a major filling in it we capped that (emergency visit - did a temp same day!). He does beautiful work, always up on the latest technology that is available (but tested). Eventually I started to replace all my molars that had large fillings with caps - before they split. We were conservative and did two a year. His hygienists are both awesome, knowledgeable, great to answer questions and always there to help. His office manager is on top of all the insurance and made sure any reimbursements were taken care of. Professionals all around. I can highly recommend Dr. Simons and his team, they will not let you down!

However, multiple fillings I had done have cracked within 12 months. The new dentist I think perhaps is trying to market to a different clientele...while I was in the chair having a filling fixed, I was accosted to sign something on an iPad saying I would pay the bill lol. Every bill for the prior dentist I had paid immediately upon receiving. Also, how are you positive what my insurance is going to reimburse? I just felt it was tacky. I had a filling fall out and made an appointment to have it fixed. I show up, wait past my appointment and then am told that they were just going to look at my tooth, not fix it. After pointing out the girl on the phone assured me I could have it fixed, the dentist begrudgingly agreed to fix it. It was the most painful dental experience of my life. I also cannot chew on this tooth ever since. Lastly, I was told I had several teeth that needed fillings and was going to have those done. I switched dentists and my new dentist in Lynnfield assured me my teeth are healthy and do not need fillings...odd. I'm sad that I have to change my review because I did personally like the previous dentist, but based in the quality of the work of multiple broken new fillings, how the buyout was handled and quality of the practice since the buyout I wanted to update my review to more accurately reflect my experience

You can tell the staff and dentists are like family and care about their patients. I've never been scared of going to the dentist- Dr. Mu has nimble little fingers (for reaching deep in your mouth) and is great with kids. The other dentists and staff all are knowledgable and have a great sense of humor (and strong Boston accents!) The office is run like a well-oiled machine- super efficient and professional. That's not true. They don't have that. Also, according to the dental hygienist, YOU HAVE NO CHOICE. YOU MUST SUBMIT TO THE X-RAY!! Ya, I told both the hygientist and dentist that need to work on their informed consent. I was going to walk out but then they had the dentist do the cleaning instead. That dentist definitely needs to stick to his day job - which shouldn't be dentistry. He kept dropping the instruments on my arm. When he flossed my teeth, he couldn't really get the floss between some of the teeth. Apparently they aren't equipped with sinks so you get have to swallow or get vacuumed up - which he didn't really know how to do. Family Dental is basically what's wrong with dentistry. It's about the money they can get out of you. Not you or your health.

Tremendously great experience with Dr. Brian Chuang and the entire staff at Reading Endodontics…read more I had seen my dentist on a Friday morning about a tooth that was bothering and he suggested a specialist could get more insight. It didn't seem urgent then but in the evening, after eating something cold, the tooth got much worse. Of course, by then everything was closed but I emailed Reading Endodontics, which my wife had used before, and waited patiently until Monday 8am to talk to them. No need: Monday 8:03am I had a voicemail from Carol at Reading Endo: she had read my email, understood my problem and if I could get there right away they'd be able to take me. By 9am I was on the dentist chair getting X-rays. There's some real professionalism and responsibility and I felt 100% certain I'd made the right choice. Dr Chuang was very thorough, took about an hour and a half to do the work, explained the problem and what the next steps were. His assistant Anne was great, distracting me during the most difficult part which was injecting the anesthetic. The following day Carol called to check up on me! This was really the best possible outcome. Definitely plan on living to 120 without needing a root canal but, if that doesn't pan out, Reading Endodontics, Dr Brian Chuang and the staff there are the next best choice. I'm very grateful for the exceptional service I got there, from the very initial contact to the follow-up.
