We came to the town during the tulip festival. The restaurant we planned to eat at had a long line of waiting. We decided to just grab something quick. One of us likes deep dish pizza a lot, and we came in this one, although deep dish pizza requires a wait of 40 minutes at least. We ordered a deep dish pizza to go and were told we can come back after 40 minutes. After 40 minutes, our pizza was still not ready, but it was tulip festival time; we understand they'd be super busy. As we found a table this time, we decided to sit down instead. But we stood next to the table for 10 minutes before someone came to clean up the table. Again, tulip time, we understand. When the deep pizza finally come, I was shocked at first bite - sooooooo salty. I can only eat half of a slice, while drinking a whole cup of water. The waitress came and asked us how we were doing. We told her that it was very salty. The waitress with surprised with out response and called the manager. The manager tried a bit of the sauce on our pizza and acknowledge that it was salty. The manager said they made the sauce in house, so it may happen that one batch is too much salty. We got refund on the money for pizza and the manager offered to give us a free cheese pizza. But after all this, we didn't really have mood for pizza, so we didn't take it. I would totally give it a 1 star based on our pizza experience, but I appreciate the manager's effort to try to make us happy, so a 3-star. read more

We stumbled across Crust 54 yesterday while exploring downtown Holland. The outside was very inviting so we decided to check it out. Overall we were very impressed. The menu offers both thin crust and Chicago style deep dish. The deep dish takes 45 minutes and we didn't have time for that as much as we wanted to try it out. We ordered two 12" thin crusts and couldn't believe how fast they were on our table. Crust 54 also offers vegan options which made this stop even more enjoyable for our differing menu needs. The Siracha pizza is exquisite. Not a single bite without flavor. After finishing the entire 14' pizza, I was left unsatisfied. Not with the pizza, but because I was craving more. The combination of chicken, bacon, onion, and Siracha sauce was to-die-for. Could never go back to eating a basic cheese or pepperoni pizza. Where is the flavor??? This is my fifth time at Crust 54 - I only go places that many times when addiction takes over... The deep dish at Crust 54 is so unique that it has fostered the growth of an insatiable need for this specific pizza!! The sauce is amazing, the crust is perfect, this pizza is nailed down. I always over order and subsequently overeat and I never regret that glorious chain of events. Besides the arguably perfect food, their service is so great!! People are nice in Holland, like really nice, but everybody at Crust 54 is somehow a step above that. They may be saints. Crust 54 is busy on the weekends, like today (Saturday 4th of July weekend), but it is never too busy that a delay in service ensues... At least in my experience thus far. Stopped in for dinner before the Thursday evening street performers started. There were only a few people there and lots of empty tables. We placed our order for Chicago style pizza and were told 30-35 minutes. My husband asked if they could text us when it came out of the oven. She was more than happy to take his number and do so. The told us to go ahead and choose a table and put our plates and silverware there to save it. We went shopping and took some things to the truck. My husband had set an alarm to get us back in time and we were almost back when she texted and the phone went off. They carried the pizza to the table for us and walked away. My son got a separate personal size Chicago style cheese pizza because he doesn't like all the toppings. He likes his food cold for the most part and dug right in. My husband passed out ours and it was just warm in the middle. I even thought the crust was a little doughy in the middle. When she took it to our table she had taken it out of the warming oven, but apparently it wasn't warm enough or they weren't busy yet so it didn't take as long to make and the pizza had been sitting awhile. My husband asked if they could make it warmer and they did come take it and it came back better, still not hot. While we were sitting there, another table got their pizza and it came out piping hot and the gal offered to serve them each their first piece, which she said they always do (something we weren't even offered). Their pizzas cheese was stringy and you could see the steam come off of it when they pulled each piece out. If our pizza had come out of the oven when she texted, ours should have still been hot like that as well. This isn't the first time we had eaten here and we usually have a better experience. Crust 54 used to operate under different owners, and to be honest, I loved the pizza, but the service was sub-par. It was also very hard to actually order a pizza, because it seemed like the pizza that you ordered and the pizza you got were never the same, like some kind of rotating "lets screw with customers' orders" roulette. I'm VERY happy to say that the new owners have gone so far above and beyond what Crust 54 was and have turned it into such an amazing place. The family that runs it are incredibly warm and inviting, and no matter how busy it gets, I always get service with a smile. I've only had one time where it wasn't right, but that was the guy taking my order's fault (he was a little too happy and a little too rushed). Overall, this place rocks. My family is a big fan of Chicago style deep dish pizza, so we were excited to hear about Crust 54. Crust 54 allows you to call your order in prior to arriving, this is great since it can take a good 45 minutes to make a deep dish pizza. So, we called ahead to place our order for a large deep dish with half pepperoni and half sausage. We had some trouble finding a parking spot when we arrived, which seems to be fairly common in downtown Holland on a weekend. We entered through the parking lot entrance, and being our first time there, it wasn't very clear on where to go. There is a order/checkout counter so you basically order your food similar to a fast rood restaurant - not a big fan of this style of ordering in a pizza place, but it is what it is. We informed them that we called our order in ahead of time, which was a good thing because they had reserved a table for our party of four (me, my wife, son, and daughter). The dining area was packed so if we didn't have a reserved table, we wouldn't have had a place to sit. Still at the counter, prior to being seated, we ordered our drinks and an order of cheese crust (their version of a cheese bread). As far as the dining area goes, the décor was nice, seating was limited and seemed a bit crowded. Noise level seemed a bit high - there were a lot of younger kids there that particular night. Our appetizer , the cheese crust, came out pretty quickly...and was eaten quickly as well, all around the table thought it was great. The pizza came out shortly thereafter. Unfortunately the server didn't know which half was sausage and which was pepperoni and apparently guessed (which was wrong), of course, it's not like you can tell from looking at it since the toppings are on the inside. We never really could figure out which half was which, more than likely due to the way the pizza was cut, the overwhelming amount of sauce, and the fairly scarce amount of toppings. As far as the taste goes, my wife and daughter though it was ok. My son and I were not impressed at all. The sauce was too thin and watery, which ended up saturating the crust; just getting a piece off of the pizza pan was a challenge, it didn't hold together well at all. My son had the wings and my husband had a carnivore deep dish personal size. Food was all very good!! The pizza takes a while. I would suggest calling ahead even if you are dining in. We arrived at approximately 2:00 this past Wednesday afternoon and still find about half of the tables filled in the small, but sufficient, dining area. The dining space is about as tastefully decorated as I have ever witnessed for a pizza joint. You order at the counter and the food is brought to your table. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. We opt for a deep dish half cheese and half pep and bacon. The wait was substantial, but not ridiculous, for the deep dish pie. The verdict? My sons loved the pizza with one declaring it is the best pizza he has ever had. I, on the other hand, was not a fan. I didn't enjoy the pizza because there was anything wrong with it, I just realized that TRUE deep dish pizza just isn't my thing. I typically like my pizza with light cheese and extra sauce. The deep dish concept flips that ratio with cheese practically an inch thick and a lighter layer of sauce. If deep dish is your thing I imagine this will pizza not let you down. I also prefer smooth sauce and this was fairly chunky. The crust was very good no matter what style of pizza you prefer. Price was high, but a twelve inch pizza was more than the three of us could handle. Great service, great location, great dining space, and probably great pizza if you like deep dish :) If I make it up to Holland, Michigan again I will revisit and will give the thin crust a try. read more
