Crust 54 - Up there with any of the Chicago pizzas. Awesome - Pizza Near Me - Holland, Michigan

Second, and last visit, to this restaurant. The first visit was over a year ago at the Washington street facility. Nice atmosphere. Short wait. Seemed a little short on wait staff, however the ones that were there were friendly. Kitchen staff seemed to be movin' and groovin'. Waitress came to our table almost immediately and took our drink order, however it took a few minutes to actually receive the drinks - possibly because they were short on staff and the restaurant was full. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Placed our order for a couple of pies. One for the kids, who are picky, and one for the wife and I - who like to experience a pizza the way its meant - with toppings. Both pizzas were deep dish, so we knew we had a wait ahead of us. About an hour later, we received our pies. Unfortunately, they were both wrong. I don't know how you can screw up a pepperoni pizza, but it shouldn't include more than one item. Not only did it have pepperoni, it also included onions and peppers - something the kids can't stand. I found out where the peppers and onions came from - OUR pizza, which was minus those two items. "Oh... whoops" was the answer I received. No "would you like us to remake them?" or "I'm sorry, they're on us." Just whoops. I decided today to give them another shot... got online, ordered a pie, (this time from the 8th street facility) paid, and drove about 30 minutes to go get it. I arrived just in time for my pizza to be ready. Parked out front, as was just walking in when I noted a sign on the door that said CLOSED UNTIL 3PM. Well, hey! That would have been handy to know before I ordered, paid, and drove down there to get pick it up. Now, to be fair, I will note the reason for their closure - they were making a large order for Hope College. I get that, and that's cool. But take your online ordering system offline if you're going to do something special like that. The guy that met me at the door (no names mentioned) said "oh s**t, I didn't see that." Wow. Again, no "I'm real sorry" or "I'll have the manager call you", just "S**t." You guys need to get your stuff together down there. Also, a class on Customer Service 101 would probably be beneficial as well. read more

This was our first time going to this restaurant and we were not disappointed. We got a six piece pizza, deep dish Chicago style and it was delicious. We took two extra slices back with us to have another time. We would highly recommend this place for anybody that likes deep dish pizza just be prepared to wait a while because quality takes time. read more

The deep dish pizza here was very good. Thought it was bit pricey for the gluten free options but it was delicious. There was a problem with the service and one pizza took really long and my husband was done before I got mine but the staff stepped up and apologized and made it right. read more

Came here for lunch. Waitress was really helpful and recommended we get a large half and half instead of two small pies. This easily fed four with leftovers Supreme - could have been baked a little longer as there was no char, but the crust was crispy on the outside and sheet on the inside. Pepperoni had a nice kick and the veggies were fresh. There potentially could have been a little bit more cheese This place is also great for vegans as they have daiya and vegan crust. I was disappointed when another Pizza place recently closed specializing in deep dish. I wish I'd have known about Crust 54 sooner. This deep dish is better than anything I've had from that other place. I'm a convert, love this deep dish! The sauce is amazing, Great quality cheese, ingredients all taste fresh, and the crust... It stayed crispy despite the crazy amounts of cheese and sauce. A+, this will be a new regular spot for us. My only gripe, the box used for the deep dish just seems ill prepared for it's contents. read more

Love this place. Matt and team do a great job. Service is excellent. I like the new location. Tons of parking around. Good atmosphere. The food is top notch. I like the deep dish better than the Chicago places. Sauce isn't too sweet. Just right. I have to mention one thing that was really impressive. I asked if I could have a pizza ready at open. I like to visit my grandfather at lunch. He has a pretty set schedule and that was the best time for me. Matt was so accommodating. It wasn't a problem at all. I made sure he got a nice tip. We ordered The Godfather pizza and it was amazing! The pizza itself wasn't oily like some places are. The ingredients were all fresh. You can taste the earthiness of the mushroom, the freshness and crunch of the green peppers, and sausage was not salty at all. The whole pizza itself was not salty, which is amazing! I feel like some pizzas tend to tip over the salty side. This one doesn't. The tomato sauce was not overpowering either. Overall, amazing, delicious pizza! read more

Grew up in Chicago and New York and I have to say Crust 54 pizza is my favorite in the area and overall in my top 3 ever tasted. Their salads and appetizer wheels are delicious as well. Late lunch on a Wednesday. Walked in and ordered a Large stone-fired cheese, well-done, cut in pie slices, not squares, take-out. First time customer. Pleasantly surprised. Pizza ready in under 15 minutes. PERFECTLY COOKED. Firm crust underneath and edges, with slight char, but not burnt. Perfect cheese melt and dough had good chew. Sauce was delicious too. Delicious Chicago style deep dish pizzas. The pizza pinwheels are also very tasty. This is an order at the front and get a number style of restaurant. The service was friendly. Deep dish pizza takes a while by design so don't be upset about the wait. They even have a sign that advises deep dish pizzas may take up to 45 minutes. I believe they do accept call ahead orders. It also looks like they have a very busy carry out business. read more

Friendly service, clean locale, so-so pizza. We went the deep dish route and while the tough crust along the edges seemed deep, it's as though the pizza still bottoms out to near thin crust status once you work your way inside. There's an overwhelming sauce-to-cheese/everything-else ratio, to the point that our pizza looked like a crime scene after swiping out the first slice. Everyone's got different tastes so who am I to say you shouldn't give this a shot, but I think my dining partner summed up our experience pretty well after finishing her first slice. "Not great. I'll start by saying I'm from Chicago so my pizza standards are high and this place didn't come close to delivering. The deep dish is everything deep dish shouldn't be- very very heavy, soggy, doughy. Out of our party of ten no one really cared for it. It may be better if you ate it at restaurant but it gets extremely soggy for take out. Chicago restaurants usually only do take out deep dish uncut to minimize sauce escaping and soaking into crust making everything a soggy mess. There is LOTS of sauce on the thin crust, which I usually like, but this was very salty and overly sweet at the same time . The thickness of thin crust is pretty average , I prefer a thinner crust in general but that's me. The Caesar salad was decent but we won't return . read more

My group really wanted to like and recommend this place. The servers were so upbeat and accommodating, even during the brutal weekend dinner rush, but the quality of the food was very hit and miss. What is great about this place is that they have gluten free options, even for deep dish pizzas, which was really nice to see! They even do half and half pizzas, in case you want to try a couple of different things with a smaller group. We stopped by here during a recent visit to Holland to visit the Tulip Festival, and by the time we were done sightseeing, we had a hard time finding a table for 9, until the good folks at Crust 54 let us know that a spot would be opening up soon, and that we should hurry over as they don't take reservations. When we arrived, we were seated almost immediately. You have to wait in line, place an order, and they bring the food to your table. For our group, we ordered three 14 inch thin crust pizzas - the Pesto Chicken, the vegetarian option (I forget the name, but it had a ton of veggie toppings), and the Srirancha minus the bacon, as well as a greek salad, and an order of their cheesy bread (basically a 12 inch cheese pizza with a heavenly amount of fresh garlic). The rest of our order was delivered pretty quickly, but we were left waiting forever for the Srirancha pizza, to the point where we debated cancelling our order, which is a shame, because the Srirancha pizza - with a unique sriracha ranch based sauce, bubbling with cheese and topped with flavorful chicken pieces, was by far the best pizza we had there. The other two pizzas were overwhelmed with sauce and toppings, and were not baked evenly. The middle of the pizza was very hard to eat, and the soggy crust tasted awful. The cheesy bread was really delicious, and we lamented not ordering a second one. Like I said, the service is spot on, but the pizzas themselves will leave you a little disappointed. read more

If I had to review on the food alone, this place would get five stars without hesitation. However... The service at this location is adequate. We placed our order and we received our food eventually, and all of the above was done without the slightest warmth or friendliness or even common courtesy. We placed the order for a Chicago style pizza and were told it would be 45 minutes. Exactly 45 minutes later, our pizza was brought to our table and dumped there without a word. I had to go into the restaurant (outside seating was available and inside was very warm and crowded) and track someone down to get napkins and parmesan cheese. You would have thought I was asking this young woman for a kidney! By the time we finished, people were lined up outside waiting for their food and/or a table, and dishes were piling up on the outdoor tables but nobody was cleaning them. Customers began cleaning up after the people who came before them just to get a seat. The food is top notch, without a doubt. Worth the wait and even the high prices. The service was so poor that I would never go back. But if you like your food with rudeness and a scowl, this is your place. read more

And there is no doubt that outside of Chicago, this is the best. And they would hold their own against any place in Chicago as well. Fair prices and friendly folks. I've tried several of the pizza options including the deep dish and thin crust. Both were great! The cheese bread was also great.

I don't normally eat deep dish pizza as it's not big in St. Louis, but I was excited to see the great reviews for Chicago style deep dish while on vacation in Holland. I think the pizza was good, though I guess I prefer St. Louis thin or NY hand tossed. I'm glad we went as it was clearly a favorite for locals and visitors. You walk up to the counter to order, then grab someplace to sit once a table opens up (it was packed when we arrived). This is a classic pizza place...don't go if you aren't getting pizza. They do have a couple of sides and salads and some soda, but that's about it. Not sure I would go back if I was in Holland again, but glad I gave it a try. read more

First time trying this place and I was satisfied. I had a craving for Chicago style deep dish pizza, and I was pleasantly happy with my choice. The pizza was fresh and hot. Servers were very polite and all smiles. The Italian sausage pieces were a bit large, but juicy nonetheless. The restaurant is small due to sharing space with a restaurant connected to it. Atmosphere was very friendly and service was done in a timely fashion. They told me my wait was 30 minutes and i got my food in exactly 30 minutes! The deep dish pizza takes longer to make being that the cheese has to have time to melt. Overall, really good, would visit again! read more
