Ok food, bad service. I've been coming here for the past five years and service and food quality has definitely gone down. It was one of my neighborhood favorites for a bit but when they changed the sizes things seem to have gone down hill. Placed and order at 4:45 online for pickup at 5:15. I walked in at 5:15 and my food was not on the pickup shelf. I waited a good 10 minutes until I saw someone starting to make my food. There was no reason for this as the place was nearly empty. Once my food was ready and packaged, the food was not placed in the pickup shelf, but on the counter behind the cashier. I wet up to the counter and said that's my food. This left a bad taste in my mouth and have decided to not return. Definitely bad customer service the past few visits that will be the last. read more

Why this place is so popular is beyond me. Tuesday lunchtime it was like a cattle call for this cash-cow business. I ordered a Queen Margherita Pizza that was more like a soft crusted flatbread. For $10.99 I received a portion that was no larger than a slice of $2.99 Pizza. Same goes for the salads, very small portions for lettuce and a few ingredients. That said, the food was decent and enjoyable. It was so busy I was surprised when my order arrived promptly. The poor employees were working like dogs to keep up with the volume of to-go orders, I felt sorry for them. One big plus, actual linen napkins which I appreciated. How did they know I wanted 3 salads with just lettuce and cheese for lunch!!!!! Absolutely no quality control, if you see 3 of the specialty salads with no modifications and only lettuce and cheese why would you move it along let alone package it. Gave me a refund but I'm still not entirely sure how that solves my underlying issue aka being hungry. I realize they are busy, but having someone check before bagging it not an above and beyond ask, it should be a baseline requirement at the least. I still like this place, but I discovered I don't really love most of their salads. I recently tried the Welcome Home and it was so salty and just unappetizing. Also, the service has been a little off... my friend and I recently ordered the goat cheese appetizer and it took 30 minutes to get to our table. They did give us two free glasses of wine which I obviously appreciated, but it just seems like things take way longer than they should. This place was on my radar since it's really close to my work, and as a picky eater, the menu looked like the pizzas and salads are completely tailor made. I ended up loving it so much that I had it 2 days in a row when I had to be at work or school for over 12 hours! I called first, because I wanted to make sure they did carry out. The guy on the phone was really friendly and told me that it definitely is that kind of place, so I felt reassured to drop by for a carry out before an event at work tonight. I walked in and was greeted and they explained how I could built my own pizza and salad. A pizza with up to 3 toppings is $6 and a salad with toppings (up to 4, I think) is also $6. They have some pizzas and salads that they have given you suggestions on for ingredients. I ordered a pizza, just cheese, because I'm either a purist or a 6 year old, and a salad that was written up on the board, with southwest flavor: roasted corn, cheddar cheese, avocado, tortilla strips, and roma tomatoes with lo fat chipotle ranch dressing. The way that they make the salads is really cool: they put everything in a bowl, then dump it out on a cutting board and use a special tool to chop it all up. It was pretty big, definitely could be a meal depending on your ingredients. There are over 50 ingredients. The avocado was really fresh and they scooper it right there. I was impressed! The pizza is quick baked, and was ready by the time I paid. The perfect amount of time for someone in a rush! The pizzas are more long and thin than round, and a great serving size. A pizza and salad was more than I needed for dinner, very good portions. I had extras left over. The first day, the bottom of my pizza was a little more cooked than I hoped, but the second, it was perfect. The crust is chewy, thin but not like a cracker. Really good!!! I also tried what they called a blondie, which was unlike any blondie I have had, but better! It had dark and white chocolate chunks, plus something crunchy that tasted like toffee bits! Very interesting texture, and eating it the day after I bought it, was still extremely soft and fresh. Yum! They have other baked goods that are really good. They have Pepsi product fountain sodas (yay!), Fitz's bottles, a good selection of wine and beers too. The inside is really nice - wood floors, roomy too. I'd eat in any time as well as carry out. They are dedicated to organic and fresh ingredients, and ever have orange slices to add to your water in addition to the lemons, and agave syrup for sweeteners. There were a few little blips, like they didn't know if I was carry out or eating in (even though I told them - maybe it's not a button on the computer), forgetting something, still learning the cash register, etc. But it was still fast and the food was great, so it will work out I'm sure! Boyfriend suggested stopping in after a long (LONG) day of shopping this weekend. We shared the goat cheese app - very good! It was crusted with craisins, almonds, and honey which gave it a different (i.e. sweeter) taste than most goat cheeses. Very interesting. We also shared a flatbread with grilled chicken, gorgonzola, spinach, tomatoes, and a creamy parm sauce. I felt OK about it. Good not great. Maybe it was too rich? I got the south of the border salad and added grilled chicken. Boyfriend got a chipolte bbq chicken salad. At first glance I thought our salads were basically the same, but they actually had their own unique taste. My salad had chicken, field greens, tomatoes, corn salsa, avocado, crispy tortilla chips, shredded cheddar, and low fat chipolte sauce. YUM! Most of the other CRW restaurants are $25/person for a 3-4 course meal; at Crushed Red you get 1 appetizer to share, 2 small chopped salads, and 1 pizza. It was a generous amount of food and really great to be able to try so many things on the menu especially for the price. The salads that came with the restaurant week menu were served in smaller bowls than the full-price salads but with two of them, it was the perfect amount for 2 people to share. We tried the FRESH MOZZARELLA appetizer, which was your basic caprese-style mozz salad with sliced tomato, balsamic reduction, a sprinkling of basil, and a generous amount of pesto. Tasty but nothing too out of the ordinary. The COWPOKE SMOKE salad came with sirloin steak, tomato, onion, blue cheese, and jalapeno straws in goddess dressing. The jalapeno straws added a great spicy crunch to the salad and paired really well with the steak and blue cheese. The EMERALD COAST salad came with shrimp, avocado, cucumbers, mushrooms, and bacon with roasted red pepper vinaigrette. This was also super tasty. I thought the salad ingredients were thoughtfully composed. I loved that the flavors really popped due to them being freshly chopped and mixed. We had the YUKON GOLD RUSH pizza, which is topped with Parmesan cream, bacon, Yukon potatoes, olives, rosemary, and Gorgonzola + mozzarella cheeses. The pizza was not overly greasy, had a light flatbread-style crust, and was uniquely flavored without being overly complicated. Make sure you grab some red pepper flakes, parm, and roasted garlic from the self-serve table. You can't really go wrong with roasted garlic - it is so flavorful and goes perfectly on top of the pizza. Ingredients were fresh and unique. Crushed Red feels like a perfect place to grab a fresh, well-priced lunch or dinner when you don't have a lot of time and want something tasty but healthy. Wow, wow, wow! So good! My lunch bestie and I decided to try this place last Friday. All I knew was that she heard it was good and had healthy options such as salad. It has its own parking lot, which is nice because parking in Clayton can get hectic! Upon walking in, I thought the place was gorgeous! Very open space and a very unique, hip atmosphere. We were greeted immediately by a cute guy at the front of the ordering line and we asked for some recommendations. Both my friend and I were up for sharing so we decided to go with a salad and pizza. The cute employee recommended that we get the chipotle bbq chicken pizza, and my friend and I picked the Farmer's Market salad. Can I just add that they use all fresh, organic ingredients in their salads AND they use whole-grain in their pizza?!?! Amazing! The chef making our chop salad knew we were sharing so he put our salad into two separate bowls which I thought was very considerate of him! Both my friend and I ordered a glass of wine as well. Every employee we came into contact with was super nice and extremely courteous. We arrived around 2pm so the place had only a few tables filled, and we chose a booth along the wall. It was a bit chilly by the booth, (I think we were under a vent or something) but still bearable. We both had some water to drink and I love the fact that they keep lemons, oranges, AND limes right next to the soda/drink machine! So thoughtful and convenient! Our salad was brought to us first and it was DELICIOUS. I cannot believe that I have not discovered a "chop" salad before. It is very true that it makes all the difference! It was cut into 6 pieces for my bestie and I to share and it was marvelous! The crust was crispy and the toppings were hot and flavorful. That chipotle bbq sauce is TO DIE FOR! My friend and I joked that the next time we came we would ask for a side of that sauce just to dunk our pizza crusts in. It has a perfect kick of spice mixed with bbq flavor. Fast casual is the best thing that happened to the restaurant industry. This place is nice enough to actually come in for a date night but is also quick and simple for a solo bite to eat. The salads here are phenomenal. The pizza (or flatbread) is the perfect size for one person and the flavors are intense and wonderful. If there is a line at ordering don't worry, it will move fast. I've had a variety of flatbreads and salads and have always had a great experience. I once tried to make my own custom salad and I learned that the choices they have on the salad menu are pretty elaborate and there is no need to make your own unless you have a special dietary need. Delicious! I googled a placed to get a chopped salad in Clayton today and Crushed Red was the first result. The restaurant is colorful, open and inviting. The staff were quick to introduce us to the menu and style of the restaurant. You have the option of ordering just a salad, a pizza, or both. Those wishing to order a pizza have to wait in a separate line for someone to take their order. There are some unique combinations of pizzas and salads to choose from. The pizza's are large enough to share with one person if you also order a salad. Ill post some pictures of the two I ordered. Crushed Red is trying to offer organic and sustainable fare to the public. Happy hour is available from 4-7 with $1 off beverages. I ordered and recommend the following salad and pizzas: Pizza Steakhouse: Parmesan cream, smokey beef brisket, red onion, Gorgonzola, rosemary & mozzarella. Crushed Red's is an "urban bake and chop shop" that does its best to offer high quality food while keeping it quick and simple. The bake part offers single serving pizzas, which are delicious, while the chop shop focuses on fresh salads that are chopped together with a large knife. Ingredients are fresh and much like subway you can have whatever you want, its your salad the same goes for the pizza. Our group arrived for a late lunch, we wanted some light appetizers to hold us over for dinner and we were not disappointed. We started at the counter where a friendly hostess offered us suggestions on their menu, we opted to split a pizza and an order or hummus. After placing our order we were directed down the line to pay, and order beer, wine, etc. You can see the food being prepared while waiting or you can grab a seat at one of the cozy booths or a table, I noticed that they also had a patio but I didn't get to check it out. The food is delivered to your table, shortly after you grab your drink. The Hummus was actually very good, however it was advertised as a "smoky chili hummus", while I didn't taste the smoky side I definitely noticed the chili portion, it was great but a little spicy. The fladbread is the same as the pizza and it is great, it goes so well with the hummus. It was also served with lavasch, which is essentially a crisp cracker, I wasn't really a big fan of that. My suggestion is stick with the soft flatbread. I had a bite of the pizza and admit it was also pretty tasty. I do plan on returning and giving this place another go, lucky for me they just opened a location in Kirkwood so I can manage to get there for lunch sometime during the week. Overall I was impressed with Crushed Red's, and am glad that another Saint Louis native is creating fresh creative dinning concepts here in the 314. We eat at Crushed Red in Clayton Mo frequently. Tonight was the worst experience. After reviewing menu board we went to order. Stood there for about 10 minute, the workers saw us but never acknowledge. I waved and said you have customers who would like to order, there were 7 people behind us. One of the workers yelled at us, yelling "we are short staffed and busy, can't you see we're busy"Now I understand restaurants are short staffed and I'll be patient, but to yell at customers is another thing. All he had to say is I'm sorry we're short staffed and we will be with you as soon as we can. There was a worker who did not appear to be bus. He was wiping down a counter. If you are short staffed announce it when customers come in or post a sign and ask customers to be patient. We walked out the manager who witnessed everything, only said "sorry we're short staffed". Pretty good food, attentive staff, and clean. The salads have decent vareity. There's a lack of good vegetarian options but you can order a meat salad option without the meat. The dressings are a hit or miss with me. Some are really really too sweet. The toppings are diverse though. My main problem is that they are way too overpriced for what they offer. It's fast casual quality with table service prices. The pizzas are more of a miniscule, puffy flat bread. I would not recommend them. There's a reason the call themselves a salad place. The staff does their job, but no one working there seems to care at all about what they're doing. It looks like there's a lot of turnover. The layout confuses the heck out of me. Crushed Red has become my go to for lunches lately. All of the staff are very friendly and are very careful if you have any allergies. Just tell them what you can't have and what you need to left out of your salad and they will change their gloves, get a new cutting board, utensils etc. I've gotten very sick from other restaurants but have never had a problem here even if it is busy. The Welcome Back Cobber and the Cowpoke Smoke (with avocado) are my favorites but I haven't found one I don't like yet. read more

However, I don't think it's worth the money. If you're rich and don't care about pricing and can spend $25 on lunch then this place is great for you. If you're like me and only go out to lunch on a payday, then go ahead and try some other place in Clayton. I tried the Mushroom Medley pizza with Chicken and Bacon. The chicken was great, very juicy and not dry like a lot of places today. The bacon was the most disappointing part of the pizza. Paying $2 for a tiny sprinkle of bacon pissed me off and is why I will never go back to Crushed Red. If I have to pay extra for a topping then shouldn't it cover the pizza? I've had a combination of salads and pizza. did carry out for my wife and she claimed it was the best salad ever. I have always added my own incredients and not ordered off the menu. I find the items fresh and very good. I do find the pizza a bit small and do not reccommend it for two to share unless you each order a salad. The decor is great and comfortable. Nice to have a few free parking spots behind the restaurant beats having to pay at the meter all the time. Get here early as lunch time gets crowded. I continue to wait in my car until another 15 minutes have passed so I just walk inside and an employee looks for my food, finding it sitting on its own on a random shelf. I really liked this place. It is not a traditional restaurant where you sit down and get your order taken, you have to get in line and order what you want, then they bring you, your items. Very similar to a Panera Bread except they bring it to your table. Overall everyone there liked the flat bread pizzas, and raved about the salads. The only thing that was a disappointment was the soup. The soup was runny. I had the mushroom flatbread and a Farmer Salad. Both were great and I'd definitely go back to this place. There is a lack of signage explaining how to place your order, get in line, see beverages offered, etc. For instance, there is a line for hot food orders and another for salads but an entering customer does not know this and ultimately gets it wrong. The flatbread/pizza was very good with lots of ingredients, piping hot and a really generous portion. Also, loved the iced tea--black--very strong with a great taste. I had to request a box to take my leftovers home--box was unbelievably small--I had to cut my food up to get it inside. Crushed Red is a great fast casual restaurant with several locations in St. Louis. The Clayton location is the one i frequent the most often and their online order ahead is really convenient now that i have a baby in tow. They are known for their creative salad options but this time I ordered a five cheese pizza which is served flatbread style. It was made within ten minutes and located in a pick up area in a warmer oven. The pizza was delicious with high quality cheese and fresh, not greasy. The only reason i don't give them 5 stars is the price. $9 for a meatless flatbread pizza is high and their small salads can cost you $7 for the mini size. It's definitely delicious and great quality if you're able to fit it in your budget for a quick healthy lunch. read more

After a number of meals involving meat, it was time to go a little healthier and eat something green! It was pretty empty an hour before closing on a holiday which made for no wait time. They have a few salads that sound really great so it wasn't hard to pick. We went for a regular of the shrimp salad and a small of the salmon one. I love the Other Crushed Red location I've been to, but this one was all around disappointing. Couldn't get a single smile from any of the employees, they all look grumpy and irritated. I asked for a clean bowl because I saw the one they were preparing to put my food in had crusted white stuff and the dude rolled his eyes at me. Got the tunapalooza salad and the potatoes tasted like garbage, tuna was grey and hardly seared, and the egg they gave me was missing a yolk. Was excited about having this location close, but I will not return. Hopefully management can pay some attention to the customer service and food quality details and start delivering a better customer experience. read more

Great spot for tasty fresh food. Staff are super friendly and always fast. My wife and I are regulars. Taleaha is awesome!
