I need to do an update. It's only fair to be honest whether the review is good or bad. In 2011 we visited and I was not impressed...you can see my review. We decided to visit again because a lot can change in four years...especially with wine. The change is pretty amazing. The wines are pretty good....nothing special but good. Until you hit the Cabernet Sauvignon! WOW very good. This Cab is worth the trip, please stop by and try it. the rest are good so a nice Chardonnay for the white wine lovers. The winery is a bit small so keep that in mind if bringing a group. Friendly, my son was fine (he's 12) I'm glad we stopped again! read more

This is a long overdue review, but alas, I echo everyone's comments here. This is a small, family-run winery -- the owner was serving us!! He is an engineer who's now a winemaker. We visited the winery before Thanksgiving and my husband like the wines they offered. My husband knows his wines as he is French, from the land of wines. The red wines had a nice body and nose to them. In addition to the wines, the winery is very kid-friendly. Being from the city, my kids got a kick out of feeding the chickens, with bread from the owner. At one point, my son must have had over 50 chickens swarming around him for food, and he handled it with pluck :) Great place to enjoy with your family and also to kick back and enjoy some great wine. read more

I came here because I had never heard of it before and love to go to new wineries nearby. When we walked in, we were greeted by 3 corgis. Dog friendly- the best! We then sat at a table where they said they could do our tasting. We tasted their 5 wines, with the Vidal and Meritage being our favorite. As we were tasting they brought out bruschetta, water, and other goodies to go along with our wine. Unfortunately it was raining, otherwise we could have gone outside to the cute vines, pond, and patio they have. It's pretty small inside but worth squeezing yourself into a spot for a bottle of Vidal and some great snacks and service! read more

Great wines, intimate setting, personal service! Really enjoyed both of the reds on the tasting sheet. I loved the dips they served with the pretzels when you're here for a tasting. There isn't a large sign in the front so you may miss it if you're driving too fast. read more

Been coming here for years. Bob (the owner) is awesome and his customer service can't be beat! We always get a small plate with the latest spreads and bites they are offering, free of charge. Bob will take care of you here! It's also great because it's a smaller winery, so the atmosphere is always homey and welcoming! Plus, chickens outside, whose eggs you can buy! Bob also has delicious grass fed, grass finished organic beef he sources from a Maryland farm! Just a great, great place! read more

Too bad the wine is just sort of mediocre. There is good entertainment value though the owners stories will give you quite a few Chuckles. I live very close to this Winery and have watched it grow up what an amazing process if you're not a Wine Drinker stop in and get some humanely-raised beef or some eggs or some farm fresh chicken. read more

If you've read through the other reviews, you'll notice that Bob keeps popping up: he's a hoot, he opens wines not on the list, he pours well, he is friendly and personal, etc. It's all true. Four of us spent an idyllic Sunday afternoon at Crushed Cellars and were treated with an immediate neighborly hospitality. I've experienced this twice before, once in a small village in Italy, and once at a street cookout in New Orleans. You get the sense that the extent of Bob's worries go little further than making sure that you sample all of the cheese, meat, and chutney combinations before you get full on their homemade bread, and that you always have wine in your glass. Go to Crushed Cellars, follow the sign to the eggs, play with the chicken and cats, ask Bob about the pig story, and grab a bottle so that some time later you'll be able to uncork a weightless afternoon in Bob's vineyard. read more

Great stop on our wine tour on a beautiful sunday afternoon yesterday. Crushed Cellars is a family owned and operated vineyard located right off the main road with a cute pond, rows of grape plants and a charming tasting room. We parked and walked up to have the vineyard's chocolate lab and free roaming chickens greet us. Crushed Cellars is indeed pet and child friendly and the hospitality at the vineyard is tough to beat. We walked in and there's a bunch of local goods for sale: fresh homemade cupcakes, jams, jellies, cheeses, breads, etc. There is also fresh chicken and duck eggs for sale. We came for the wine. Yes, let's get to the wine. The bar and tables are made from recycled wine barrels with wooden tops. So handsome! We were greeted by the warmth of owners Bob and his wife. Wine tastings are $5 for sampling 4-5 of their award winning wines. We sampled their Seyval, Vidal Blanc, Merlot and Meritage while Bob's wife brought out some h'or doeurbs to try: pesto and walnut, mushroom, and artichoke spreads on bread to pair with our wines. It was a wonderful touch and addition. After the crowd cleared out, Bob came over and talked to us about his start in California and his contacts in and around the DMV area. You can tell he takes much pride in his work as he should because it shows. There is a patio where you can sit, picnic, and take in the charming view. read more

This is the best hospitality I ever experienced at a winery. The owner was amazing topping off our glasses and bringing out complimentary appetizers and water while we enjoyed time with friends. The wine was so good as well and the cheese plate for $10 dollars was a steal. I will return here many times, simply amazing! read more

Crushed Cellars is a lovely place to visit if you are seeking a welcoming, friendly, warm place with good wine and a idyllic view. My friends and I dropped in this weekend completely unplanned and were wonderfully surprised with the great customer service, "neighborhood" -type feel, and of course the wine! First, it was great to walk in and not be in a crowded winery. The decor was pleasantly rustic, well-lit (despite it being a gloomy day outside), and oozed a feeling of warmth and friendliness. We took a seat by the window/doorway and had a view of lively grape wines and dark brown cows grazing. Second, Bob and the woman who was managing the bar (Rene?) took great care of our group. They were more than happy to keep plying us with extra goodies to eat and drink. Bob was very chatty and friendly offering us suggestions for trails to hike on and other restaurants to check out nearby. We were well-equipped for our hike and dinner later on that evening based on his recommendation. =) Third, the white wines tasted wonderfully and the cost of a tasting ($8 for 5 different wines) was very reasonable. I prefer white wine but generally dislike Chardonnay and was amazed at how much I liked their Chardonnay! This is a place I would like to return to often to just hang out and wish it was in my neighborhood so I could stop by often! read more

The first time I stopped here Bob offered to let us do our tasting at a table which was a nice treat compared to standing at other wineries. When he realized we liked the Vidal Blanc he gave us another generous sample. In subsequent visits we have brought our 3 year old daughter who loves to visit the chickens that reside behind the winery and pet the friendly dog. Bob always spoils her with "stuffies," chocolate milk, and puzzles to play with while we relax on the front porch. He sometimes provides us with complimentary, tasty samples of menu items and has even sent me home with delicious bread. We love the Vidal and always feel welcome in this casual environment. read more

My wife and I have visited many wineries in the local area and enjoyed many. Crushed Cellars is so different to the others we have visited, and I mean different in a very good way. We figured that this would be a quick stop, nice to try somewhere new for us. We had our 4 year old daughter who can get easily bored to the point where our tablet is an essential bring to any winery. In the case of Crushed Cellars, the tablet was not needed, she was well entertained with the puzzles and owner of the winery. Bob and the atmosphere he creates is what sets this winery apart from many others we have visited, he is very personable and his personality is at the heart of the place. The wine is good, nothing that was not at least drinkable and many that were really nice, our tasting was a bargin at $5. Having our child with us, it was great that Bob gave us and others tastings at our table. Not only were the tasting portions a good size (served with topped bread bites!) but Bob always took time to tell us about the wines and make sure we were enjoying our time. Because we were enjoying our stay so much we opted to order some meat and cheese and a glass of the good stuff. Our quick stop here became a nice relaxing long stay. The wine and the food were both really good and the personal touches from Bob were a true bonus, the way he took care of our daughter ensured that this is her favorite winery :) The place itself is small and intimate. The free running chickens (outside) add to the character of the place. Suffice to say we will be coming back, with friends. If you are looking for a clinical in and out tasting then maybe this is not going to be your favorite stop. If you enjoy a personal and warm experience then you will likely find this THE most pleasant surprise of any Loudoun County wine visit. read more

Absolutely the best of the best in the area. First the wine, hands down the best all of them are good and not one of the whites or Reds were close to being meh. Simply loved this winery. The wine was very good. Enjoyed the Vidal Blanc and their Pinot Noir. The tasting room is small compared to others but the wine is delicious. Service was stellar. Dave and Bob were friendly, knowledgeable and fun. They, along with other staff, made sure we enjoyed ourselves. The tapenade sampler plate was an unexpected treat and was served gratis to each group. The chickens roaming around outside gave it a warm country feel. Will definitely stop there again. read more

This was an interesting experience. I came to visit the chicken farm not realizing there is a tasting room on the property too. The owner Bob is very friendly and what seemed a little toasty. When I asked for info about the winery & wines, Bob avoided the question. There was no explanation about the wines at all! Which is weird. In fact, before I'd even finished the wine, another was poured on top of it. I tried the whites which I thought were okay. Tried one red and thought it was terrible. We ended up buying 2 dozen eggs, a bottle of white and a local honey. Bob doesn't try and hurry you out of the place unlike other tasting rooms-we ended up staying an hour plus. We liked the laid back atmosphere and conversation but think there are areas that need improvement. read more

This weekend I decided to to go out wine tasting hoping to find a nice new place to buy local wine. This was not found at Crushed Cellars; it was more like crushed time time and energy. From the outside it is a nice little place and the same once you walk in, but that's when it all falls apart. Once you get in it's hard to get any kind of nice warm friendly service. I walked in sat down and was joined by someone else wanting to do a tasting. Are server if you can call her that took a good ten minutes to even just look at us. Then when she did start a tasting it took even longer for her to do the tasting for us. It seemed like the group that came in right after me were friends of hers and she wanted to spend all her time talking to them. If it wasn't for the owner Bob I would have walked out. There wines were just o.k. and should be good in the future, but with the time I had there this past weekend I wont be going back. My time is worth so much more. read more

This place isn't perfect...and that's what makes it great. We loved the chickens roaming around. We loved the simplicity of the tasting room. The place feels grounded and unpretentious. The owner, Bob, is friendly and genuinely excited about his wines. Tasting three very tasty wines for 3 bucks was the best value we had all day. And the QPR of the wines is outstanding (threw that in for the wine snobs). This place puts its focus on producing good tasting wine at reasonable pricing. Blissfully, they'renot trying to impress with smoke and mirrors through "winner of..." medals, "member only" wines, blah, blah, blech. The bread, cheeses, butter, tapinade - you name it, was fresh, local and fantastic. And getting to enjoy it sitting in the sun on the front porch with friends, those who came with us and those we made sitting on the porch, made it my favorite stop of the day. My husband and I went here as part of the winery tour around the area. I have to say that of all the wineries we visited this was by far our favorite. The atmosphere was very relaxed and he had snacks provided. He even brought out some samples of spreads that could be bought which all tasted very good. The wine was also excellent and the owner was awesome. He was very accommodating and generous with his tastings! At one point he asked me if I liked the white I just tried to which I replied yes and he just refilled my glass and said I could try it again! If you are planning to visit some wineries in this area I strongly recommend you visit this one! read more

Crushed Cellars is an amazing non-pretentious winery! It is not for the city or suburbia loving yuppie that uses wineries to prove he is "a big boy" and doesn't need the bar scene anymore. It is much better suited for the true wine-lover that truly appreciates fine wine and fine people. Upon my first visit to Crushed Cellars I was treated like I walked into my friend's living room. Bob and Belinda chatted with my friend and I as if we knew for them a long time, while pouring their excellent wines. Their kids are also as friendly and as charming as they are. The wines were great and the food is wonderful. Upon my last visit I got to try their fabulous Sauvignon and the Franc- both are fabulous red wines. My girl friends and I went on a Sunday afternoon and had a fantastic time here! The generous, friendly, and attentive service that went above and beyond made this tasting ($7 for 5 wines) a truly enjoyable experience. We really liked all the wines, especially the whites, and the pours are huge. The tasting room is small, but very bright, cozy, relaxed, and dog friendly! We happened upon this winery by chance and fell in love. We are not big white wine lovers but we found we really enjoyed their Chardonnay. Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable. When I first walked in here, I was thinking it wouldn't be too great. It was pretty tiny and without that huge open space that a lot of local wineries have. But Crushed Cellars really surprised me. Not only did they have good wine, but the atmosphere was better than any of the other vineyards in the area. They were friendly, never rushed us (and we hung out at the tasting table for a long while), served tastings even outside and at individual tables, offered us extra "splashes" of our favorites and served yummy bites with the tastings. Dogs were welcome inside and out & chickens meandered around the vines, to the fascination of the little kids. To top it off, their wines and food plates were reasonably priced. We ended up spending the whole afternoon there. This winery is worth your visit! read more

The husband and I stopped here earlier this sunny Sunday, and I've fallen in love. After parking carefully between the wandering hens, we went inside to find several other couples laughing and drinking and clearly having a great time. We sat at one of the small tables near the window, and the man who was working (I'm embarrassed to say I never caught his name) came right over to begin our tasting. Mmmm the wines were good! Chardonnay, Traminette, Vidal Blanc, Cab, a fifth I'm blanking on, and the Meritage as well. I liked all of them, which is a rarity. The man conducting our tasting was friendly, knowledgeable about the wines, and very generous with his pour. He also stopped by several times with small plates of appetizers: pretzels and a couple fantastic dips they sell on site (Bacon Jam and Habanero Butter, we bought both), a variety of bruschetta, and bread and oil. They were even baking brownies while we were there, which smelled fantastic. After the tasting, we bought a couple glasses and sat out on the patio to sip them and feed the hens. This will be a regular haunt for me, no doubt. Highly recommended. read more

Was out in wine country Saturday and hit the normal spots, Sunset, Notaviva and stumbled upon Crushed Cellars. It's hard to spot with only a sign that says Winery, but I am glad we stopped in. The tasting room is small but there is a nice porch area to relax and enjoy a picnic and views of the vines. The wine maker is so full of life and you can tell he loves what he is doing. He is incredibly generous! After my last winery stop for the day we were only planning on getting a glass of wine and not doing a tasting but the winemaker, Bob(?,) walked around and just keep pouring tastings anyway. He gave us free bread, cheese, jelly and wine samples. After trying a sample of the hot pepper jelly ($8)I purchased a jar of it along with a case of eggs ($4)! I think they have more wines now than the website shows. The glass of wine I had doesn't seem to be listed on the website right now. All in all, I recommend this winery and look forward to see what comes in the future. Prices for a glass are $6 which is very reasonable compared to other wineries. read more
