Stopped in Crushed by Giants for some drinks and snacks before dinner! It's located right downtown near the Marriott and Michigan Avenue. It doesn't look like much from the ground but the bar was very welcoming and had a beautiful view of the street below. We started with beers and cocktails. I ordered the Moscow Mule ($10), which was a typical mule. We also ordered the poutine and nachos. It was all tasty bar food and the portions were great to share. Would recommend! read more

My daughter and I came to Chicago for her singing competition. We were starving after a 12 hour drive from NJ. So I Yelped burgers, and Crushed by Giants came up and we said why not!! We were not disappointed!! We both shared an order of poutine fries, so good! Then we both ordered the CBG Burger on a brioche bun, because my daughter is allergic to sesame seeds. Not too many breweries in the area but this one fit the bill. Excellent service from a great bartender Jack, the general manager. Pretty nice laid back vibe. Crushed by Giants is a brewery and restaurant tucked away on the second floor of the 600 North Michigan Avenue complex. You actually enter at the corner of Rush and Ohio and take the escalator up. We did not have any of the food as we were in between meals that day, but eyeballed other diners trying items like poutine, loaded nachos, and a burger. Their six featured beers can be sampled in a flight for $22, a bit pricy perhaps but a great way to try all of their mainstay brews so that's what we did. Along with our glasses of water, our flight was a wonderful way for my love and I to chat away a bit of a rainy Sunday afternoon. read more

Very smooth on hops but packed with that aromatic Pilsner flavor. Food: Outstanding. It's beggars belief I have never had food I didn't like at a Chicago brewery somehow, and that hasn't been broken yet. Their fries are amongst my fav I've had in the city and their chicken sandwich sauce is a good twist on sweet and spice. Service: Friendly staff! Open until 9, we're very diligent in making sure people know when kitchen closes and give out. Vibes: Cute lil pad that's easy to miss in river north area. Right under a big theater, the bar is a nice u-shaped one, which always makes for more of a social, community feel. I agree with other reviews, this is truly a hidden gem. It is quite hidden, on the second floor of the AMC theater downtown (I might have passed by it several times without even knowing!). I did notice some signage on the outside of the building, which was nice, though it certainly isn't the 'typical' brewery location. It's a pretty small place, with a small staff (at least, it was a small staff when I was there on a Wednesday night). The sign said to wait to be seated, but there didn't appear to be a host or anything. I waited for a few minutes, and eventually the bartender acknowledged me and got me seated. It took a few minutes for our server to come over, but once she did service was great. My friend and I both got the white walker witbier, which was night and light with good flavor. We also both got the CBG burger and shared the fries. The burger was good, not super large or filling but full of flavor. The fries were also good, and the garlic aioli was delicious! Prices were also decent, especially given the downtown location. I love that their menu has photos of the foot items (I love when places do that!). My friend and I just stayed long enough for one beer and dinner, as we were on our way to the theater upstairs for a movie. But I would love to go back and spend more time (and try other beers!). read more

Overall 3.5 stars for the food alone - can't rate the beer as we didn't have any. We came in for a quick bite, it was very casual - they had 1 person handle the tables. The burgers were cooked well and I liked their bun..however it was a tad salty for me - it might just be me as I don't have much salt in my diet. The fries were soggy, and mac and cheese was bland. The black bean burger was good as it seems to be made fresh. We got the Sriracha aioli on the side to be able to control the heat - I dipped my fries in it and put some on the burgers. I think if paired with a beer (which we didn't do) may make it a better food experience, but that's just my opinion. Definitely suggest that you give it a try as my taste may not be yours. read more

I love beer...we drink a lot of beer, especially when on vacation. We live in Austin, TX where there is a lot of great beer to imbibe. On this particular trip to Chicago, we weren't necessarily in the mood for beer but we came across Crushed by Giants. We were immediately intrigued by the artwork and vast selection of beer options, so we popped in. The staff was amazing and kind, and we got 2 flights to sample everything possible. Two of the beers stood out, but the others were just okay. There wasn't a bad beer on the list, but it made me wonder how much of their traffic really stems from location since it's in the heart of a heavy foot traffic area. We got some grub, which was decent. I seriously think they are worth a 3.5 but I can't go all the way up to a 4. I think we have to give it another shot next time we are in town. read more

This is kind of an unusual location, but it was a very nice place. We had both food - hamburgers, as well as a few flights to try the brews. It's in a very popular area so parking was a bit of a struggle. You almost have to make a day of this and do spot hero and just get a reserved spot. It is located in the same building as a movie theater and it is up one floor. A total upscale brewery vibe just a little hard to find; the staff and the food was really good. We will definitely be back when visiting downtown again. read more

Decent beer, good food. Location a bit hidden. It is on the second floor of a building that also appears to be home to a movie theater. You kinda need to know where you are going because I don't recall there being any outside signage to indicate the brewpub is there. The beers they had on tap at the time were mostly not to my liking, but there was a low-ABV sour that tasted pretty ok and I was glad to get to try it. I also got a big soft pretzel with mustard and beer cheese. It was a good size, but I was treating it as a meal and it really hit the spot and was nicely filling. I arrived early afternoon on a weekday so there weren't a lot of people and I was welcomed to sit where I wanted. Service was there when I needed it and I was left alone in the in between. Lovely, honestly. I don't know if I would come back because the beer didn't excite me, but the food menu was intriguing. You could do much worse. These guys have such a neat little place here. It is in the same building as the AMC on the corner E Ohio St and N Rush St. A previous review mentioned no signage. We found it on the one side of the building coming down Ohio St. (Hoping this helps someone who may not see it to find this little gem.) The bartender was amazing! We had burgers and beer and it was great. They make all their own beer. We ended up buying a whole growler to take back to the hotel. My friend and I stopped by Crushed by Giants on our first day in town for a work conference - it took us a bit to find it, as we didn't see a sign outside and it's located on the second floor next to the AMC theatre. Spoiler alert, I liked it so much that I took Nate there a few days later when he arrived. Once we found it, we were told we could sit anywhere except the larger booths. I enjoyed the view from the second floor windows. The menu includes some tasty starters, burgers, and sandwiches. They also serve cocktails in addition to their beers which is nice for non-beer drinkers. We ordered the cauliflower and curds, which was delicious and a large portion to split between the two of us. The curds and cauliflower were fried perfectly and tossed with a medium level buffalo sauce that was really tasty. The accompanying blue cheese was perfect. The second time I visited, Nate ordered the flight - they only offer one flight of all their beers for $22, but they are large pours. You can also get 10 oz pours of any of their beers if you want to try something else. We also got the soft pretzel to share, which was amazing. It was hot, fresh, soft, and delicious - and the honey mustard was one of the best I've ever had. I believe they make it in house. The beer cheese actually tasted like beer, which I really appreciated. I loved the decor and vibe of this spot - it was fun looking at all the monsters in the artwork, and I thought the lego board menu was so fun. Pretty solid. I liked the design of the place with the big windows, and the crushed by giants art is pretty cool. We took the pre-set sampler flight, and I really enjoyed the IPAs it came with. We passed this place many times on our way to the movies at AMC 600 North but did not go in until we say them TWICE at beer fests and they gave us a free beer coupon. They own Dry Hop and Corridor too. We were on our way to a movie at AMC River East and stopped in for light dinner and beer. Our server Carter was really nice to let us sample a couple of things. He was funny and helpful! The beer I chose was a Mexican lager, very refreshing! They clearly use a lot of good ingredients and care when making the beer. I tried a porter; I didn't care for it but I'm not porter person. I look forward to the dark winter beers. The chicken wrap was good, healthy, a nice size for two. My boyfriend and I were in town visiting and were looking for a good spot to grab a beer. We were staying in the middle of downtown but wanted to find a place that was not too touristy. Crushed by Giants was exactly what we were looking for. The location on the 2nd floor got us out of the crowds on the streets below and the craft beer selection was great. Every beer we tried we enjoyed and the bartender was very friendly. I loved that the draft beer list was written out in Legos on the wall. I would recommend this brewery to anyone visiting Chicago. Also, we found out that Crushed by Giants was created by the same team that created DryHop Brewery in East Lakeview which we also stopped in while in town. This place is great! We were looking for a burger and beer type of place close to navy pier, but away from the tourists. Based on other reviews that this is located inside a larger building (the AMC theater, but there is a sign for the restaurant if you're looking for it), we thought it would be less busy on a Saturday afternoon. We were right - it was about half full when we got there. We each got a beer - I got the kolsch. We both got the CBG burger and a side of fries to share. My friend got a salad. Food was great! The burgers are smash burgers which I'm a fan of. Fries were crispy and came with a side of garlic aioli that my friend loved. Everything was piping hot when it came out - I actually needed to wait a few minutes for my burger to cool down. I'd like to see more beers that aren't IPAs on the menu, but other than that, this place is great! It's only a block off Michigan Ave but hidden enough that it's not overridden by tourists. Breweries are usually good but this one crushes it. Crushed By Giants is hidden away above the AMC Theater, with the entrance at Ohio and Rush. It's through the doors, and then you take the escalator up. Even though there's not many sets to choose from, they're all good. The prices are decent for being around here. A recent trip with some guys brought us to this brewery. It's a lot bigger than you expect. This pretty much takes up the entire area that's above the theater. Beers have some funny names. It's about $6 for pints. That's not bad for a craft beer it seems. It has a fairly limited selection on draft. The one I got was the Irished You Well Dry Stout. Good taste and it was crisp. To eat I had a Soft Pretzel. It's $9 for a big one, and comes with cheese or mustard. The rest of the menu is limited for vegetarians, with various meaty items like burgers and pizza. Concluding, as for the beer, they crushed it. It doesn't have a whole lot, but they're great at making a few instead of being mediocre at making a lot. The food is also okay. read more

This place is very unique as it is in River North amongst a plethora of shopping/dining. It's located on the second floor of the AMC theater but access is free/easy. Plenty of seating with good options to get a view. They have a fairly simple beer draft list and a solid but small food menu. Their flagship IPA - Neon Werewolf is pretty good but the rest of the lineup could use some more punch. Overall a great option in the heart of the action! read more
