Very convenient location near my hotel. I was looking for Mexican food nearby and the prices were reasonable. Upon arriving I was greeted by the hostess who gave me a few options for seating. I chose the far end of the bar just to get away from the front door because the temperature is freezing. The bartender greeted me immediately and made me a tasty cocktail "My Sister's a Horchata". It was refreshing and delicious. It definitely helped tame the spice level of the food. For dinner I ordered the Chips & Chipotle Queso and Borderland Brisket Tacos. You get 2 tacos per order and cannot mix/match. The tacos were stuffed with brisket and served with a side of salsa. The brisket was tender, the queso was spicy and yummy. I ended up putting the pieces of brisket on my chips so they def should think about adding brisket nachos to the menu. Overall service was good. The bartender Dan was nice and accommodating. If you're stuck downtown and can't get to a neighborhood then this is a great spot for tacos, Service is split between very nice and some people who really should not be customer facing. When we were there twice in one evening before and after a play, we had great service from most but a waitress named Sam decided she didn't need to worry about bumping into us if we were remotely in her way. This is such a great little spot. The bright bull designs covering every inch of the space are fantastic--so fun and energetic. We were going to a show at Chicago Theatre on Saturday. I started looking for reservations on Wednesday. Most restaurants in the area were already booked, naturally. We lucked into a reservation at Broken English Taco Pub. Our reservation was for 5:30. We arrived right on time. There was a line at the door. Those without reservations were told there would be a wait. Thankfully someone asked if anyone in line had a reservation and I raised my hand high... "Me, me!" We were seated by the window and I was looking out the window so didn't get to enjoy the ambiance. It seemed to have a hip, Mexican vibe. There were actually several empty tables, but in short order the place was fully packed! Our server was super sweet and helpful. We started with Chips and Salsa - salsa verde & chile de arbol ginger salsa, house made chips. The chips were warm and both of the sauces were fantastic for dipping. From what I recall, neither was especially spicy. We went with a 12-pack because it's cheaper and taco options are not limited. It turns out four tacos each was almost perfect. I can tell you the Pork Belly and Bistic tacos were outstanding. They were literally bursting with flavor. The Brisket was also delicious and tender. The Carne Asada tacos were bland in comparison. One of the main reasons we stopped in was online it looked very similar (food and vibe) to a favorite place of ours in Eugene, Oregon (Tacovore, if you're ever visiting Eugene. It's amazing). After an afternoon of shopping the hunger started to kick in and I yelped places near me. Broken English Taco Pub popped up and I thought why not? The reviews looked good and the tacos legit. The bartender was a sweet young woman wearing cat ears. I ordered a Paloma and it was the best Paloma I ever had! I'm not a tequila person in general but when at a Mexican restaurant sometimes you must obey the tequila gods! I got an order of their in house made guacamole and chips. They top the guac with diced tomatoes, onions, radishes and a sprinkle of cojita cheese. It was excellent. I also got an order of Al Pastor tacos. The tacos are served on corn tortillas, my favorite. The Al pastor was tender and marinated in chili gaujillo. The roasted pineapple on top was a nice contrast. We came as a large group on a busy weekend night. We planned ahead and made a reservation a week in advance, which was fortunate because there was quite a crowd of people waiting outside when we arrived a few minutes before our time. TL;DR, we weren't disappointed by our meal, but we also weren't blown away either. There are some improvements both in the food and the experience that would make this a better experience. The restaurant has a convivial atmosphere, as would be expected. Casual conversation is extremely difficult. Its décor is wonderfully garish. Among the nine of us, we ordered a variety of items. In fact, I believe at least one of each taco was sampled. I'll only comment on the ones for which I actually took a bite Appetizers: Chips and guacamole, chicharrones and guacamole, and chips with queso - the guac was quite good, moderately chunky the way that I like it. The chicharrones were so light and delicate that it was a little hard to scoop up the guac. The queso was fine; it would have been nice if it had been just a little thicker in consistency so that you could scoop up a larger amount. My primary gripe about these appetizers is that while the chips on top (as you can see in the photos) were big, underneath most of the chips were small broken pieces - I think we got the bottom of the bag. Tacos: Al pastor de pollo - I appreciated that it's made with dark meat because it's a much juicier meat. Good flavor, the pineapple gave it a good hint of sweetness to balance the salt. Carne asada - meat chunks were slightly tough. Nothing particularly distinctive about this compared to tacos I've had at other restaurants, but I still liked it. Carnitas - moist juicy pork, generous amount of meat, but the salt level on this was just too much. Kind of a shame as I normally love carnitas. Camarones - pretty good, I think I would have preferred a cleaner/less dressed-up taco though. Shrimp was expertly cooked, not tough or rubbery. Cod - battered and deep fried. Someone who had been here before didn't recommend it but I wanted to give it a try. It wasn't bad, but as with the shrimp taco it probably would be better without as much toppings Others in our group got the vegetarian options and seemed to enjoy them. Dessert: El puro churro - a good choice for sharing, especially after a heavy meal. It comes with four half-size churros dipped in brown butter cajeta ice cream (had to look up what exactly is meant by cajeta). Personally I think it would have been better if the churros weren't filled with chocolate, but we all really liked this ending to the meal. Service was fine and food came out quickly. There weren't enough plates and utensils at our table and it was hard to get someone's attention to get some more supplies. Our water glasses were filled fairly regularly. The table that we sat at wasn't the most comfortable, as we were at an high table with backless stools instead of chairs. There was no place to hang our jackets or purses, so we ended up keeping them on the entire meal. Anyways, this was a decent experience. I can't say that I'm clamoring to come back here again, but I wouldn't be opposed to give it another try someday. read more

We took a pleasant 15-minute walk from our hotel on the Magnificent Mile to Broken English Taco Pub, and it was absolutely worth it. From the moment we arrived, the ambiance transported us straight to Mexico. The vibrant decor, music, and atmosphere set the tone for a fun and flavorful experience. Our server, Sammantha, was fantastic--attentive, friendly, and always making sure our Coronas stayed full! We were also pleasantly surprised when the manager stopped by to check on us. That kind of personal touch is rare these days and really made the experience stand out. Now, let's talk food--the tacos were delicious. Since I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to spice, I asked for the sauces on the side. They put the sauces in cups next to each taco, which was super helpful. My favorite?
