Came here on a recommendation from a friend. Cool inside . The decorations were great! Food and margs delish. Tacos are a good size and yummy. Mexican rice good too. Service good.

We went to Gordo's for dinner on a Sunday and were seated right away. I loved that they had dog-friendly outdoor seating. We ordered the quesabirria tacos (comes with three tacos), the taco flight where you can pick any three tacos, and a large Jamaica to share. The quesabirria tacos were delicious, with very tender and flavorful meat, though they were a bit pricey at $18. For the taco flight, we chose the chicken, cochinita pibil, and fish tacos. The cochinita pibil taco was really good, and I loved the pickled onions. My boyfriend had the fish and chicken tacos. He said the fish tacos were good but would skip the chicken next time. The large Jamaica was perfectly sweet and refreshing, ideal for a hot day. I thought this was a nice quick meal, will definitely be back to try their other items.

Tucked in a Lakeshore East community, this taqueria is a must try! The moment you're seated, you're served with complimentary salsa, verde and chips. Chips are always so fresh. I have tried tacos, quesadillas, tostada, fajitas, chicken soup. The food totally hits the spot. Usually my go to is Tinga and chicken taco. Also, it is very reasonably priced. The margaritas are exceptional too. The vibe is pretty chill, casual. The place is vibrant, clean and very tidy. The staff is very friendly, pleasant and hard working. The service is quick. Give them a go, this small business deserves all the love and praise!

What a fun hidden gem. After a morning of ice skating at Maggie Daley park. We were a hungry group, with many choices of where to eat. Decided to take a chance on Gordo's. I have been wanting to check them out for a while. The restaurant itself if clean and nicely decorated. The service was great! We really enjoyed all the staff we encountered. The guac, salsa and chips, tacos, and enchiladas were all delicious! My only dislike was the music was a tad louder than it needed to be. Looking forward to my next visit and trying some different items on the menu.

Gordo's is a nice, casual spot for Mexican. We went here on Saturday before St. Patrick's day, but only waited about 20 minutes for a table. The atmosphere is loud and open. It's nicely decorated with Mexican-themed trinkets, and the margaritas are strong and tasty. The complimentary chips and salsa are really good and I think they're made in house. I had three tacos with flour tortillas. They were decent but nothing special. My friends liked their dishes more, though. Our waitress was friendly and attentive even though it was really busy. I would try it again if I was in the area but wouldn't go out of my way.

Visited this establishment because I was close by. I ordered the chicken pastor and the pastor tacos. The chicken pastor was a little dry and lacked flavor but the pastor was delicious, juicy and packed with flavor. The service was fast and efficient. The Ambiance is great although it was a little dark.

Was shopping around on my last day in Chicago and didn't want to go too far for Mexican food so I found this place. It's slightly Americanized but the food was very tasty and the portion was huge. I ordered chilaquiles with chorizo and it was tasty, my Bloody Mary was super good too. It was rather quiet when I came in and staff was attentive and friendly. Pricewise it was perfect. Loved the decor too.

Honestly we ended up here because the wait next door was too long. The food here was ok. I got the chilaquiles and they were ok but I asked for my eggs over medium and they came out less than over easy. I also tried a Michaloda which I had been wanting to try and was not a fan. In general the place is cute though and in a nice area. My husbands food was very good and tasted very fresh.

Getting here was kind of difficult to find depending on where you're coming from. We came from the upper level and could not figure out the location at all. Google kept telling us we arrived but we couldn't find it until you look on the wall of the downstairs plaza and you see this giant menu on the side of the building. Then you follow the directions to other restaurant and use the escalators to head downstairs. The service was great. Everyone was friendly and helpful when we were there. The food was delicious as well. The jamaica drink tasted very much like hibiscus and not powdery. The tacos were a good size and very flavorful. I wish they had another dessert but they ran out. Overall, if you're in the area, even as a tourist, give it a try

I was a business traveler looking for a spot frequented by locals but within walking distance of the Fairmont Hotel. This place nailed it. I had 3 flour tacos with my chips and salsa, + a margarita. The people were super laid back but service was still solid. Very tasty.

Despite their well-earned fame, this spot keeps the humble, hole-in-the-wall energy intact, small, unpretentious, and staffed by some genuinely warm and welcoming people. Pop in, grab a seat, and let them do the rest. My fiancé and I shared the quesabirria combo, two quesabirrias with consomé, a Mexican Coke, and a Jamaica, and honestly, everything was amazing. The Jamaica alone deserves its own shoutout: perfectly balanced, not too bitter, not too sweet, and exactly what you need to cut through the heat of the food. The tacos came out piping hot, prepped right in front of us, loaded with cheese and packed with flavor. The consomé was warming, rich, and perfectly spiced, the kind of broth that makes you want to tip the bowl. And the accompaniments (onion, cilantro, peppers, lime, and salsa) give you full control to doctor things up to your liking. For spice lovers, this setup is a dream. My one gripe, and the sole reason I'm docking a star, is the price. At around $30 for two tacos, a consomé, and drinks, it's a tough pill to swallow. As a Mexican American, there's something about that price point that pulls me slightly out of the authentic experience I was hoping for. I fully respect the craft and passion behind this food, but it's worth noting. That said? Don't let it stop you. This food is incredible, and I'll absolutely be back.

Really awesome space at a crowded downtown location. Foods were served on nice metal holders or disposable/environmentally friendly containers and utensils. The tacos were huge, and I love that they focus on the variety of vegetables on the taco, which is often overlooked at other places. Veggies also make the taco look beautiful. I particularly enjoyed the tikka paneer, the paneer was soft for paneer but firmer than tofu, a really great texture. And the flavor wasn't overpowering. The tikka sauce was light, which I am totally fine with. The chicken quesadilla was also made well and of good value, the kids all really liked it. The salmon was good too but didn't really stand out as much, but appreciate the variety veggies on top! The mexi-Cali shrimp bowl was not bad either, but also didn't stand out much. The shrimp was good but I prefer it cooked even lighter if possible. Flavor was good tho. The rice was long grain, which I prefer, but they do give quite a lot, I ended up having quite a lot leftover. I wish the had a bit more cilantro or other herby mix to increase the depth of flavor, but overall still pretty good. Queso was also really good, thick and creamy, not too salty, but sadly the kids didn't like it as much. Husband also liked the gochujang pork a lot, said it was actually really really good. Overall, we really enjoyed everything we had there. Love that they also had paper towels everywhere. My preferred method of keeping clean haha. Will definitely come back.
