Wow, so good. Had the Tacos Mexicanos. Soft corn tortillas with perfectly seasoned eggs, white Mexican cheese and spices. Add meat if U wish, I did not, and it was plenty. The free chips are delicious, add a side of guacamole for perfection. The coffee was worth it. Mexican style. Located on the west end of the Lakeshore East Park, it's right by Marianos. It's a fenced area with picnic style open air! The menu is based around margaritas (they usually have a special, the blueberry is a clear winner), old fashioned (really good, sweet and strong), tacos (the steak and the pork pineapple are my go to!), quesadillas, burritos (nom!), and other delicious snacks. The menu is small but does the trick!! The best part: 1. DOG FRIENDLY 2. No reservations are required, because there is almost never a wait ( I've gone at 2pm, and I've gone at 6pm before). 3. Friendly service 4. Bathrooms are inside Mezcalina Restaurant. My weekends just got a little more relaxing! A great place to sit back and sling back some drinks. I really wish I could give a better rating and honestly it's a low 3. It's a close spot to home so it's convenient but not great. I've tried 6 different dishes from various tacos to quesobirria to enchiladas to a carne asada type steak plate and none were amazing. Free chips is a nice perk but only goes so far. Today we had to flag down a server after waiting, no joke, twenty minutes for someone to come see us. All in all Will I be back? Terrible service. What more can I say? They sat us outside and during the meal the wind picked up crazy style. So one of our drinks spilled because of it right after it was delivered. The waitress accused us of lying and didn't want to replace it. Then for the ENTIRE meal, no one came to clean up the mess from the drink on the table. It just sat there. We didn't get our food for a very extended time and when it do come it was nasty. How does one mess up a quesadilla? It was greasy and lacking of meat with a weird burnt flavor. Food and service were amazing! I ordered 3 chicken tacos (Tinga style) and the chicken tortilla soup. The soup was brought out within 5 short minutes of ordering. Food is always great here whether it's takeout or dine-in, we prefer dine-in though to get the full spread. Always tastes fresh, not drowned in salty sauce or doused with indistinguishable seasoning. Our favorite is the chicken quesadillas--they're crispy and fresh. The pico de gallo and sauces always taste crisp and refreshing. It's a quiet place depending on what time of day you go in but the decor, music, and TVs invite you to stay awhile for a potential party. There's a patio out front but it's pretty shaded and not that exciting. Service is...relaxed. Gordo's staff was very pleasant and accommodating to our large party. Back in October 2023, I contacted the manager, Freddy, in hopes of booking an event consisting of about 50 people for April 2024. From the beginning of our interaction Freddy was very warm and adaptable when handling the administrative aspects and we were able to rent out the entire establishment for our party. Since we were booking from out of state there were no face-to-face interactions, which can make the process a bit more difficult. Despite this, I believe the process went pretty smoothly especially considering restaurant managers typically juggle many other day to day responsibilities. On the day of the event, the restaurant was very clean, drinks and food were great, and the staff was welcoming and accommodating making the experience seemingly enjoyable for everyone! The manager on duty offered to change the music to our preference in order to keep us happy. They have a charming environment in regards to decoration and the staff enhanced the experience even more. Food was served buffet style with chips and salsa, guac, tacos, empanadas, etc. I have no complaints and have had 0 complaints from those that attended event. We live in the neighborhood so we dine at Gordo's pretty regularly. Every time we go, we get sat right away and enjoy their complimentary chips and salsa. The food comes out freakishly fast and we've been happy with our order every time. The food was good but not worth the horrendous service. First of all I had to flag someone down to get seated. My companion and I entered and waited for for 10 minutes while none of the staff acknowledged our presence. I made eye contact with them 5-6 times for them while they ignored us. I don't think it's that much of a stretch for the staff to say hello. Service was horrible in the sense that the staff didn't pay attention to our requests outside of the food order. We asked 2 people for an extra bowl and it never came. The bathroom was out of TP. We learned to not make requests since it was obvious the staff didn't care. Overall the food was decent, but not worth the feeling of being neglected as a paying customer. I've experienced better service at fast food places. At least they acknowledge you. read more

I am a Pacific islander and just because I have brown skin those not mean I am Hispanic after I had told my waiter I don't understand or speak the language. What a great find. In a park down below all the high rises is this incredible taco bar. All the food is prepared perfectly and large portions at a very affordable price. I had the nachos to share and did classic margaritas. The first margarita went down way to smooth so we had to get a second. Then put came the steak fajitas. It was more than we could eat. A few of my friends and I saw Gordo's Tiny Taco as a recommendation on social media and decided to try it out! They had a lot of COVID precautions which were great. They have over 75 tables and you can easily social distance. So it seriously is exactly like the name. The portions were TINY. The value for the food was not proportional to what we received. This would be an amazing spot for friends to hangout and drink AFTER going out for dinner in the city. A lot of my friends live in the burbs so coming all the way to the city just for this restaurant was not worth it. Other than that, the drinks were great!! my girlfriend and i had low expectations just because we have HIGH standards for our tacos. these live up to said standards! we ordered 2 tiny taco flights, 1 side of rice, 1 empanada. 27 in total. the highlight of our meal were the barbacoa tacos- very tender with a subtle spice! my girlfriend is mexican and she says it was some of the best barbacoa she's had! the carnitas, cactus, l chicken, and fish were all alright as well. what you'd expect. the chicken tinga empanada was sooo good! we ordered takeout, but the ambience seems fun and casual. I was in the city on a Sunday night and this seemed to be the only thing open in the area and I'm glad we checked it out. They were out of patron which was odd but I enjoyed myself. Service was decent. The tacos were good but could have been a little fuller but each one was uniquely favorable. Loved the mole chicken!
