You know that feeling you have when something is just meant to be? Here's my story of how this all came together...Allie came to the rescue of my daughter's hair just days before her HS Senior Prom. Through some miscommunication/language barrier issues with a different hair stylist, my daughter's request for highlights turned into a bleached out mess! On a desperate search for someone local to the South Bay, who could also understand my daughter's vibe and of course fix her hair - I came across Crush Salon. There were a lot of other salons that I ended up bookmarking. Most of them "Asian salons" because well, I'm Asian and my daughter is 3/4 Asian. But Crush is the only salon I actually physically went to. The first evening, I drove by because either Yelp or Google listed the salon as open. They weren't, but I was not to be swayed. I returned again on a Sunday afternoon, and it just so happened that the salon was open for just one client, and Allie was there. There was an instant feeling of calm and positive energy from Allie. When I found out her name, I was certain. Allie is also the name of my son's fiancé, who we absolutely adore and my daughter has a close bond with her. I booked an appt for my daughter with Allie for later that week. When you know, you know... My daughter absolutely LOVES Allie, and her hair came out beautiful for her prom! Because this was a corrective color, we've had to return about a month after for her high school graduation, and my daughter's hair looks fantastic every time. Crush is located next to Hermosa Pier, and parking can be trickier on the weekends due to the beach crowds, but there's a convenient parking garage too. (Just set a reminder for yourself if you're doing meter parking of your time!) The salon is clean, comfortable, and welcoming. If you're looking for upscale and frou frou - this may not be your vibe. When I called an hour earlier than the opening hours in order to set up the appointment, Brandon called back immediately after I left a voice message (even though it was 8 a.m. in the morning). Brandon did such a wonderful and professional job on my hair. But more than that it was the little details that showed me that 5 star treatment I would want. He didn't try to make me spend more than I would have wanted to by trying to add more items to purchase for my hair, he didn't try to make me do more than a simple cut, as he understood this was my first visit ~ and I was trying to feel this place out. I got a simple cut with light layering in the front. Paid $120 for it with a an additional tip as well. I informed him that next time I wanted to dye my gray hairs electric blue and he said he wanted to put his foot down and recommended that I don't do that and explained a semi permanent coloring would be better. He mentioned that a semi permanent would be good to reduce the frizz of my hair and cover my gray hairs, and that it would grow out gently and not affect the new gray hair coming in, but after explaining and hearing my response, Brandon let it go with no real pressure. I may do this next time! Additionally, when I told Brandon that I have been told never to get bangs, Brandon agreed. Then he went one step further and explained why I should not get bangs. I found this to be helpful, because the way he explained it was very illuminating and no other hair stylist has ever made an effort to explain why I shouldn't get bangs. Finally the reason I chose this place was that it had 469 reviews w/5 stars at the time and was open on a Sunday. The only thing I don't enjoy is the idea that I need to get metered parking. Ok it's my first time ever at a review and I'm going to be brutally honest. I went in to get my brother a haircut and the first red flag was when you have to look at an image to know what a low taper is and usually I see them spray to wet down hair to make it easier to cut through but he cut dry and it kept getting caught on the comb. Second the aggressive handling of the hair cut was my second red flag. I even was about to speak up to relax on how he handled my brother as he kept grabbing forcefully to try to make it "look" like the picture reference. And last but not least the payment it came down to 45 and I don't want to be paranoid but I handed a 100 for change and eventually my brother had exact change and paid and I noticed he grabbed my hundred until my brother called him out to return it. My hair genius, Aric recently moved to this salon, so of course, I followed! Nice salon, very close to the pier, easy to find and plentiful street and lot parking. Run, don't walk, to have Aric work his magic on your hair! I'm Asian, and have straight-ish, thick hair, and it can be difficult to cut. Aric always gives me a fantastic cut that isn't blunt, and gives me tons of texture and volume. I love love love what he's done with my color. His painting (balayage) is a gorgeous brown that doesn't look brassy, or orange. Also, he uses Olaplex product that makes my hair feel soooo soft, and healthy. I'm trying to cover my grays, and Aric is going to make my hair lighter and lighter. I can't wait to see what other wonders he's got up his sleeves next time I come in! read more

Yesterday I went here to get a Brazilian blowout, since my mom kept telling me how great it was for your hair. Since my hair is naturally wavy and gets quite frizzy at times, I decided to try it out. So she booked me an appointment with her hairdresser, Katy, a very nice lady who did a fabulous job! My hair is now totally straight, silky smooth and soft as a baby. Literally!!! First, she washes your hair in the sink to make sure it's squeaky clean and free of any product. Second, a keratin treatment is applied to your hair, which makes your hair feel really healthy and gets rid of frizz. Third, she blow dries your hair, using a round brush. Finally, she uses a flat iron on your hair to make it stay straight. However, beware, the keratin treatment gives off strong fumes which may make your eyes water and burn. It's kinda like when someone is cutting onions, but depends on how easily irritated your eyes get. In my case, my eyes are super sensitive so they practically stung and watered the whole time. It didn't bother my mom though, according to Katy the hairdresser, who kindly gave me these big framed glasses which helped reduce the burning a bit. She also gave me a towel and a glass of water, which was nice. I am absolutely in love with the way my hair turned out! You can tell in the photos I attached how much of a difference it made to my hair before and after. Before it was tangled, frizzy, rough, dry and just an overall mess. Now it is the exact opposite! Healthy and full of life again! I will be getting it done by Katy again, of course. She is by far the kindest, most talented hair dresser I have ever met. Highly recommend her! read more
