TLDR: 3 not great experiences with Ashley, including her recording without me knowing, her being…read morelate, and then her canceling on me unexpectedly hours before an appointment and then charging ME a cancellation fee. Longer version: I found Ashley on socials and booked a new client appointment. She had me follow a bunch of rules: come in with no product in hair, no detangling, and completely dry. She was late to the appointment and I called/texted/DMed to no avail. Eventually, she did text me and let me know that she would be there. In that first appointment, we did a treatment and a wash and go. She also walked me through different products and how to style my hair. I was new in my wash n go journey and she told me to text her when I'm buying my products and to keep her updated on my hair journey. She asked me to write a 5 star review on the spot and to give her any feedback in-person instead of in a review. She tried to convince me to book a haircut, however I wasn't prepared to pay for a curly cut on the spot, but she did convince me to go ahead and still leave a 5 star review and book another wash and go. In the second appointment, it was pretty simple. We did a wash n go, and again she tried to upsell me to book a haircut by kind of insulting me about having dry hair and then also had me write a 5 star review again on the spot. She asked about my hair journey, and I told her how I still don't enjoy doing my own hair, but that I am trying my best to follow her instructions and to use the products she recommended me. I texted her ONCE when I bought the products to make sure it was right, as she requested, and ONCE a photo of my own wash n go. I later saw an Instagram post where she posted a recording of a conversation where I mentioned a salon that I'd visited over a year ago for a curly cut. In that video, my eyes are covered because I'm in the shampoo bowl, so I did not know that I was being recorded. I messaged her telling her that I did not give her permission to record me, that the context of the caption was misleading, and asked her to take that video down. It took some back-and-forth, but eventually she did take it down. That's when I noticed some of the before and after photos which I believe to be also misleading. The before photos she calls my hair dry and makes fun of my new growth, failing to mention the fact that I showed up as requested with my hair uncombed, unconditioned, no product and a year out from a cut. My hair was hydrated in the after photo and looks defined, as it does anytime I do a moisture treatment at any of the salons I've been to. Making fun of my hair while bashing another salon I hadn't been to in a year was unnecessary. This year I was going to a wedding and planning to have my hair in an updo. I wanted to support a black salon and the last one I went to was unavailable the week of the wedding. I saw that Ashley's salon is now using a different stylist other than her. I should've listened to my gut and distanced myself from anything related to Ashley from the jump. I booked a simple Wash N Go appointment with the other stylist, figuring that this is a simple appointment and that I wouldn't have too much interaction with Ashley. My plan was to have a wash and go there to define my curls and then put my hair in an updo for the wedding. The day before my appointment, Ashley texted me re-confirming the appointment and saying she was excited to see that I booked. She asked if I've gotten a curly cut before to which I told her yes and then she asked what products this "other" stylist has me using. I'm not sure why she needs that info if I'm just getting a wash n go but before I could even respond, I got a message saying that my appointment had been canceled and I'm charged a late fee for canceling within 72 hours. I thought it was an error given that she had just reconfirmed less than 5 minutes prior. I had to go back-and-forth with the booking company to eventually get my full refund, including that late cancellation fee. She never responded to my text about why I was canceled but she sent me an email mentioning the video that she recorded without my knowledge and said that "we have our choices." She had never previously expressed any issues or concerns with me, and I thought this was very unprofessional. Looking back, this unprofessional behavior is in line with every interaction we've had. I am posting exact screenshots of my conversations with her, so you can see for yourself the way that she speaks to clients. The fact that she charges people for canceling within 72 hours yet does it herself is telling. The fact that she texts me excited about an appointment just to cancel minutes later is crazy. The fact that there are many reviews saying she retaliated against them for giving less than 5 stars and/or sharing constructive feedback is ridiculous. The fact that she recorded my audio conversation while my eyes were covered in the shampoo bowl is asine.

Parking: Metered parking, somewhat tight due to gym; however, the salon does provide you a pass. Front desk person: Woman that answers the phone provides the recommendation on who to see based on the description that you give her; altough I'm not sure she is the right person so make those determinations. Color: Failed results at all times, kept saying that it's a process, yet she never invested in achieving the color as we discussed. I felt low and disregarded every single time I left the salon. I paid over $1000 to not obtain the results in each session. When I shared my concerns with her and advised that the incorrect color was used, she became distant, ghosted me on text and was not honest about when she was in the office. I called the salon and the woman at the front told me she was there. I feel cheated and hurt. There is no salon manager, no one that cares or that you can speak to about your concerns. Payments are done directly to the stylist.

I texted Edgar a wish pic and it looks nothing like it. I do not recommend him. He offered his next cut free and I won't go back

Searching for a salon that was open during the pandemic was tough. I called a lot of salons I found on yelp. Most of them weren't open. If they were, their appointments for services weren't available for my spontaneous idea for a haircut. I eventually gave Crush a ring and Byron answered and was able to fit me in for an appointment that day at 3:45. I skimmed through the reviews and was originally excited for my appointment because all the great reviews of Byron and all the other stylists at the salon. I arrived at my appointment at 3:30 and get a text from Byron asking to push back the appointment until 4:05. No big deal, I didn't mind waiting. So I met with Byron and he sat me down at his station. I told him I wanted a haircut with balayage. I originally just wanted a haircut but decided to get a balayage since he apparently 'specializes' in balayage. Mind you, I came to the salon with waist length virgin hair. He assured me that he could accomplish what I wanted. He gave me a medium length cut which I like. It was a nice change from having very long hair. Then we started the balayage process which expectedly took a long time. Long story short, the end result wasn't what I was expecting. When I was paying for the services Byron said he would give me a discount the next time I came back. Which lead me to believe he probably knew that it wasn't his best work. The haircut was 80 and the balayage was 275 plus tip. I wasn't sure how I felt about my hair until I got in the car and FaceTimed a friend. However, I wanted to give it some time and see if it would grow on me. I have attached pictures of how it looked the third day after washing it. The left side of my hair was lighter than the right side and the parts that were balayaged were brassy. Also, it was totally uneven(not blended), over processed in different areas and there was some weird striping going on. Kinda like tiger stripes. The back of my hair only had balayage on the tips.(Refer to pictures) I was heart broken. It looked so bad I couldn't continue walking around with hair like that. I eventually ended up going to a different stylist to fix the botched balayage. I met with Byron a week later and he gave me a partial refund with an apology. Moral of the story, you don't always get what you pay for and you should always do more research before you decide to invest in something as valuable as your hair. One would think that a nice salon in hermosa beach would do a great job especially with all the great reviews. read more

Let me start by saying I'm always nervous to try a new stylist. I'm not very trusting when it comes to my hair because it's been ruined too many times before. I was due for a simple trim and decided to do some research to find a cut in the area. I'm SO glad I called Crush salon. Pete answered the phone and I immediately felt how passionate he is about hair so I agreed to come in for a trim. When I got there, his energy was so calming and sweet I took a leap of hair faith and turned my light balayage hair into an all-over very dark brown...this sort of change is so rare for me. I'm usually a very picky person when it comes to my hair, but Pete listened to my desired outcome very well and even discussed options for colors. I felt secure knowing that he knew exactly what he was doing. We had some good conversation and laughs while my hair processed. Ladies, you know how boring hair appointments can be. Pete didn't fall into this category. The time flew by. The long-layered cut along with the rich and glossy dark color made my hair look AMAZING and healthy. I can't believe I found a stylist so close to my home that I'm now obsessed with! I cannot recommend seeing Pete enough. He will make you feel brand new! I followed Lexi here from her old salon, because I wouldn't have anyone else touch my hair! I had one hairdresser my whole life, and then I moved into the L.A. area. I bounced around trying to find someone new and ended up with a haircut that was really terrible for my hairtype, I have thick coarse hair and the other stylist razored it and left it looking thin and damaged, I was so upset. I desperately searched for someone good that could fix it, I found Lexi on Yelp I'm so glad I did. She chopped off the damaged part and made it look healthy and beautiful again. She worked with me on how much she would need to take off, and let me know she'd do her best but it would probably take two cuts to really get back to my natural thickness. I appreciated that she talked me through it and didn't make me lose too much length. So when she moved to Crush it was a no-brainer. The salon is small and the owner, Byron, was cool. It feels like you're hanging out with friends when you're in there. Last time I went in for highlight (which she also did an amazing job on - its months later and it grew out so nicely), while I was waiting for color to process, she bought us tamales from the tamale man. I found out about this salon on Yelp and was sooo impressed with Natalie! I have long hair and need a haircut because it was flat and lifeless. Natalie recommended a razor haircut so I could keep the length and take some weight off. I forgot pictures of the hairstyle I wanted (duh) so I just told her roughly what I wanted and trusted her judgement. She knows exactly what she is doing. My hair after was full of volume and so much lighter. She was extremely professional and sweet, she is like the Goldilocks of hairdressers, not too bossy, not too shy..just right. I HIGHLY recommend her and I cant wait to go back. The whole experience was enjoyable and relaxing. She finished my haircut with a beachy wave that made me feel like a Victoria's Secret model. Here's my long rave for Aric. He is such a true artist I've always been a natural blonde with hilights and they always came out good I suppose because I'm naturally so light, but I was never "wowed". I came in asking for more dimension because I like having really blonde pieces, but also sandy pieces to add contrast because I looked washed out and brassy as hell. Needless to say he really listened to my concerns, I really didn't want to damage my hair with more bleach, but he said that he would use Olaplex and explained all the science behind it and his plan for my hair. He balayaged and foiled me (which I've never had done). Well when I got home my husband loved my hair and I can't get his hands off of me. After moving from the West Coast, to the East Coast and back again - I had not had a decent haircut in almost 5 years. I read the reviews on Yelp and called Eli. He wasn't hesitant at first to have me come in - after all - I seemed like one of those never happy clients. He agreed to give each other a try. He was honest and straightforward, which I really liked. He agreed my hair really was in bad shape. He gave me his own suggestions - a bit too drastic for me for now - but we did a slightly less dramatic version... and it was fabulous. I can style it many different ways and its an extremely easy cut to manage while rushing to get ready for work with 2 little kids. Eli really knows what he's doing and takes his "art" seriously. Love, Love, LOVE Luisa!!! She is so incredibly talented, and ALWAYS does a great job whether is cutting, coloring or styling hair. She has fabulous ideas, and really listens to what you want before she does anything. Byron is a rare find. He is talented in high-end coloring, styles, cutting, and works with you on what you want. He helped me strip pink from my hair, dye back to my natural color after sun damage, cuts my hair stylishly but such that it still goes into a french braid for my running, and he's also done a Brazilian on me. Everything he does is high end professional, and I leave feeling beautiful. I have thick, frizzy hair and he helps me find the right cut and styling tools to maintain it. This was my first cut by Eli. I was very pleased that he took the time to understand my hair cut history. I am quite picky and was concerned because I have thick long hair and had too much taken off with my previous hair cut. I wanted to keep it long but of course get rid of my dead ends. i found this salon and eli on a walk one day. its location is perfectly close to the hub of hermosa beach. i met the owner eli who was very nice and made an apointment as he was booked up until the next week. i ended up getting the keratin smooother its kinda like the brazialian blowout but it lasts longer so im told and i freaking love it no more flat ironing...yea. i also got a haircut which was supremely delightfull. he is great for coversation and will def. make u laugh. his salon is very clean and i like the modern look. i highly suggest giving eli a shot its well worth it. read more

I've been going to Crush for a while now and it is my GO TO. Recently moved out of Hermosa but come back often and make it a point to go see Allie every time. She is the best, not only a hair wizard, but also a great hang :) I'm blonde and like a natural "Jen Aniston" looking color. Allie nailed it the first time I went and now we don't even discuss what's needed whenever I go again. She just knows. If you want a bob cut, than Eli is probably your guy. if you want a cut that suits your personality and you want a hairstylist help you with the cut that suites you, your character and your face. Look somewhere else. Looks like there are better reviews for other hairstylist in that salon. I won't be back here, not for Eli. He didn't really discuss what I want, I even had pix of the styles I was thinking about. he didn't like them, maybe because he only knows how to cut bob style. Kelly is FANTASTIC! I've cut my own hair since I was in high school because I always found that I needed to touch it up after having it cut at a salon. Kelly cuts and styles my hair perfectly every time! My girlfriend gets her hair cut and colored by Kelly, and she's never been disappointed. I refer all of my friends to her. if you want a great expreince at a salon. i would suggest to go to the mint salon in mb. it's off of manhattan ave across from the side door. the owner is very accomadating and gives you an amazing scalp massage with your hair wash. i got a highlight and a cut which turned out wonderful. he also cut my 5 year olds hair. she has the cutest bobb. i wanted to yelp as its new a way reasonably priced for the area. way worth every penny ill be back. read more

To her credit, she was able to arrange for another stylist, Erik to take the appointment so I would not have to reschedule. She even booked the replacement appointment on my behalf. Before the appointment, I specifically asked Rachel to have the new stylist honor the price she had quoted me. She assured me that she would pass along that information to the new stylist. When it came time to pay, I was shocked to learn that Erik charged approximately 40% more than the original quoted price. At no point before or during the appointment was I informed that his pricing was different, despite my explicit request that the original quote be honored. Had I been told upfront about the higher price, I could have made an informed decision before proceeding. Instead, I only found out after the service was completed and payment was due. The lack of transparency regarding pricing left me feeling misled and frustrated. I understand that different stylists may have different rates, but clear communication about pricing changes is essential, especially when an appointment is reassigned by the salon at the last minute. Unfortunately, this experience left a negative impression.

After another salon made a mistake with my hair, this salon reached out and offered to fix it for free. That kindness meant so much to me, and the care they put into fixing it was just as amazing. Jordi did an incredible job. She took the time to ask questions and listened. That made such a difference, and the results speak for themselves! I can get up and go with my natural curls, and my hair falls beautifully into place. When I flat iron or blow dry it, I get awesome results, too! The owner is wonderful and checked in routinely to make sure I was happy. She and Amber were always available to lend a hand whenever needed. The whole atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I felt listened to and cared for throughout the experience. Having hair I love both at the salon and when I style it myself is a huge win. I was very clear about what I wanted: a **base break to lighten my roots** and blend them with the rest of my hair. Instead, Lindsay applied a dye/color that did not achieve what I had asked for. My roots were essentially left the same, and the result was not what we discussed. I trusted her with my hair and was expecting a professional result, but I left feeling extremely disappointed. The whole reason I booked the appointment was to have my roots lightened and blended, and that simply did not happen. What is especially frustrating is that I was clear about my desired result beforehand. If a base break wasn't going to achieve what I wanted, I would have expected that to be explained to me before proceeding with the service. I would not have agreed to pay for a service that didn't accomplish what I specifically requested. Unfortunately, my hair was left looking essentially the same at the roots, and now I have to spend additional time and money having another stylist correct it. I would strongly recommend making sure you are completely clear on what product and technique will be used before allowing them to proceed. I am extremely disappointed with the result and will not be returning to Lindsay.
