Parking is pretty challenging. The vast majority is metered parking with a max of 2 hours so you have to constantly check on your vehicle orrrr you will be Cited. Luckily the kind staff will more than gladly run outside for you to add more money in your meter. (Thanks ladies!) Appointment can easily be made via online or by telephone. I've been here twice for color and cut. Each time I came I was paying approximately $200 so total about $400 for both sessions plus tip. I was super excited to visit this salon. I had found them on Instagram and had read the views and I was 100% committed into trusting someone with my hair. I figured an upscale salon would provide upscale results....about that..... I first came in August 2019. (Mind you ive had horrible hair experiences years prior) I told the hair stylish I wanted ombré balayage hair. My natural hair color is dark brown Note: * I understand it's not going to be hella light instantly after one time at the salon * Anyways My hair dresser took about 4 hours putting foil on my head and doing her whole hair stylist stuff and I ended up with highlights. I'm not a hair expert but highlights is super different than balayage. My hair looked about the same. If I were to stand in the sun maybe you could tell it was a bit lighter. But nothing worth ppl noticing. (My own boyfriend couldn't tell the difference). However I loved the hair stylist personality and I trusted her and was told lightening my hair is a process and to come back in 6 weeks. So I paid. Tipped about $60 on top of the $200 I paid. Annnnnnd scheduled my appointment for 6 weeks. I bought hair products and did my best to take care of my hair. Throughout the time. 6 weeks later in September 2019 I came back. Hoping to get the results I wanted. Same thing. Got my hair bleached again. And noticed i did notice it was significantly a little lighter. (Not the results however a little lighter) And once again I was told come back in a few weeks. As the days went by my started to feel like a rubber band. It felt stretchy and brittle. (I asked myself was this normal?) The texture of my hair was harsh and would easily tangle. It started to feel rough and dry like Hay. As the weeks went by I started noticing my hair was starting to get really weak and breaking off. I felt like I was going bald and I constantly used hair mask and products recommended. after days of hiding my hair in a scarf or hat I went to a new hair stylist to get a hair cut sincey hair was uneven, dry and not cute AT ALL. So I went to a NEW hair stylist AT A NEW salon I found online. I was praying the same thing wouldn't happen in this salon. I met with the hair stylist who has about 25 years of experience and she told me my hair had been over processed and needed hair treatment. She grabbed a mirror and showed me. The back of my hair had a Ton of broken pieces. And there was different spots of hair color. Some platinum blond. Some brownish and some yellow. None of it was the same Shade of blonde. My hair was extremely damaged and needed a couple inches trimmed. So after chopping a few inches of my hair now I need to pay for color treatment due to the over processed hair that gave me a chemical cut. Sooooooo the moral of the story is I got a bad hair job. Pros: staff members are polite and friendly Cons: over paying to have your hair ruined. I unfortunately won't be going back to Mimosa. It's sad to say. I hate giving bad reviews. But now I have to go else where and pay for the damage done. read more

Someone I work with recommended this place for blonde hair. Was super interested after seeing pictures as this would be alot more convenient that the salon I went to before covid. They dont have any kind of online appointment booking system so I called them a few times this afternoon and no one answered and there is no answering machine. I had my hair done by Lauralai for the first time today and I am so, so, so happy! I've been looking for a new colorist for about two years now. You would think this shouldn't be that difficult but after trying three different salons in the Southbay, I FINALLY found my new home for hair. She was able to start the improvement process of a poorly executed color and cut in just one sitting, I'm already MUCH closer to my proper color and cut. Her colleague Chia was the sweetest as well and I couldn't have felt more at home. These two ladies work so well together and gave me a killer blow-out finish and beach wave curl. read more

I am overdue to write a review for Mimosa and my amazing long time hairstylist Lauralai. Since the first time I went to her for balayage and all my hair care needs I have never been disappointed. Even months after a service my hair still looks amazing in between visits. She just gets it!!!! Sadly, we moved out of the area to San Diego County but I would still make the drive to get my hair done by Lauralai! She is so talented and treats your hair like a work of art!! Let me just start off by saying that everyone that works here is amazing. From the second you check in to the second you check out! I have been going to Mimosa for a few years now and I have not been disappointed. I am currently having my hair done by Saudi, she is very knowledgeable and accommodating. I've hesitated for a while and felt conflicted about writing this review but here it goes. I came to Mimosa because a stylist was highly recommend to me by a close friend. I met with the stylist at the end of December 2021 and we had a consultation, she wanted me to get my hair cut prior to getting color done by her, so we set up a meeting with another stylist for the cut, and the color was to be done two days after the cut. This appointment was set about two weeks out from the initial meeting. So I went and got my hair cut, and because of complications with covid, my color appointment had to be canceled and I wasn't going to be able to be seen for about a month and a half out. I waited, I said ok no problem and waited because I finally felt like I had found the one since I unfortunately have had major complications with my hair in the past. Fast forward to my appointment date, my appointment was scheduled for 11 am and they moved me up to 10 am I say great! In earlier, out faster right? Wrong. I have very short hair, just below my chin, sits on my neck and my hair has never taken longer than 3 hours even when I had hair down to my chest it just hasn't. We talk over what I want, I gave the most thorough explanation like literally could not make it any more straight forward and we had inspo pics of what I wanted my hair to look like. I am a brunette and know I will not be platinum over night but when I tell you that my hair looks NOTHING close to what we discussed and the photos I showed.. I was there for 8 hours. I don't understand what took 8 hours but that's how long I was there for. She also took two other clients while she was doing my hair. I personally felt like she did not manage her time properly what so ever and I was upset that she was taking other people while working on me, further delaying my appointment that I had been waiting for almost two months at that point... At the end of it I was super frustrated and just left. Tried to make the most of it at home. Here's where I get really irritated, I texted her the next day, really trying to express that I was appreciative of the work that she had done, but it wasn't what I wanted at all and if there was anything we could do to fix it. She basically dismissed my text message and said if it was the tone I was upset about we could schedule to strip it out. I did take a day or two to respond to her because I was stuck at work, but once I responded I said okay lets try that, and also asked when we should be booking the next appointment out. She never responded to me. So after a few days I manage to get in contact with her boss through a third party, and the boss responds back that she "offers you to come in and strip the color out and retuned so it's just blonde if you want to do that".... which was what the stylist had literally texted me but again no one was going through and making an appointment with me. I basically felt like they were just dismissive of my situation and not really caring to be bothered. I took the tone out myself and, my hair looks blonder where it was already blonde but other than that, I don't know what she spent 8 hours doing because my hair is extremely dark, she barely brought the blonde up, and I can't wear my hair picked up because its too dark underneath. I give it two stars because I like the place, love the guy who cut my hair, and I get that things happen, but again the reason I'm leaving the review now is because a month later I still hate my hair, I spent $430 to hate my hair. When a salon is that expensive and their stylists pride themselves in their work, there shouldn't be a lack of urgency to get back to their clients and dismiss text messages. Even if they tried to fix the situation now, I wouldn't go back, maybe just to get my hair cut from the one guy but probably not. Sorry. read more

Updating my review due to what I've noticed. I got my haircut on Sunday the 20th of Dec at 10:30am. As soon as the curls in my hair fell, my friends and I saw that my hair was uneven. We parted my hair directly down the middle and saw that my right side was much longer than the left side. I'm currently trying to figure out how to attach the photo. Super disappointed at this, embarrassed my hair was butchered and I'm now afraid to get my hair fixed at the salon. Came into Mimosa to get a Shellac manicure for the 1st time. I was test-driving before my wedding in a month. Liz is the "nail professional" and did an amazing job ! I thought it was be very tedious and time-intensive, but it was really fast. My nails look beautiful, so I will definitely come back. The only draw back on the Shellac process is that you are limited in the color selection. Hopefully in the future they will come out with more colors. read more

This service/review is based on June 13, 2012. Let me give you a bit background about me. I'm in my mid-20s; asian with hair length down to my bra line. I have medium hair thickness with some strain of hairs that is ultra thick. Prior coming to Ashley at Mimosa for the lowlight, I went to get consultation at four different places. Therefor the price here is very reasonable. My lowlight cost $145 (this is all over the hair). Plus they are having a deal 50% off highlight/coloring/lowlight for Southern CA resident (this is as of June 13, 2012). I love my lowlight and I received a lot of great compliments from my friends and family. The reason why I give 4.5 with the satisfaction for my lowlight is there is a bit damage and frizzy on my front side which is noticeable for me and small part on the bottom of the hair didn't turn out as nice as the others. But it's all good, the overall i love it. I'm glad it didn't turn out crazy or wild. It's very natural blending in to my current dark brown hair. Thank you Ashley for making this a great first time experience. The only thing this place didn't accommodate with the lowlight was deep hair conditioning, but Ashley did trim my hair bang for me w/o additional cost. :-D Was very kind of her. (side note: deep conditioning is $20 additional which is reasonable price). One thing about this place I noticed is when they are working with one client - in between time, they don't go and work on another client and have someone else check the hair for the stylist. I noticed that action happened pretty often at some salon. Here, Ashley spend so much making sure I feel comfortable, and spend time on my hair to make sure I am satisfy and happy with the result. Thank you again. Rose (I think), at the front desk is a sweetheart. She greet with you a smile and offers you water regardless how long you are staying there for. She make you feel comfortable. About my eyebrows wax- no complaint; was painless and wonderful with Brittany. I've been going for months looking for a curly cut certified stylist. I finally found someone who does an amazing job. I have very curly hair and I struggle to have nice curls. So thanks to Saudi who I truly trust to cut my curly hair, I've been having the nice curls ever since she cut it. She also told me about two techniques to do with my hair and it has worked since then. My first curly cut was October 2019 and I just went back again February 2020. I walked by one day and saw the salon and decided to schedule a Brazilian wax because they had a good deal going in, and almost no negative reviews about the brazilian. But now looking back, the reviews about the Brazilian wax service is really spread out over the years. I had Julie today, whom the salon told me was the only one who does Brazilian waxes there anymore. She wasn't friendly like some reviews mentioned, but she wasn't nasty either. It just seemed like she was in a real rush, and I felt rushed. She didn't really talk to me, so I tried to start conversations with her, so that I could keep my mind off the waxing pain. During the wax, it hurt like sh*t - I haven't gotten a Brazilian for awhile so I know it should hurt. But I asked Julie where to pull my skin taut (like where she was going to wax next) so that I can minimize the pain. My past waxers usually put me at ease, and told me different ways I could help to minimize the pain. Julie didn't oblige, so it was just fast ripping over loose vagina skin- ouch my goodness! Whatever. I got home and tweezed some extra small hairs I had (because I was trimming and the hairs were too short to wax, this should be normal).. and I noticed in the mirror, ALOT of long hairs and short hairs in the crooks and crannies.. and on the face of the va-jayjay.. ALOT. Also, she didn't completely wax the back all the way up. Ew. So sorely disappointed! TMI? I spent 45 minutes plucking on my own, and it's pretty hard to do that down there. read more

The Owner, Rose called my daughter telling her they wouldn't honor her appt because she had missed twice her appt without calling. Great salon. Most places in South Bay seem to require weeks to a month's notice to book an appointment and have extremely limited hours (which limits options for working professionals). I have seen two or three different stylists and they have all done a lovely job. Parking is indeed challenging but it is on the main HB strip so it's what you should expect. read more

I debated writing this, because I don't think someone should have their livelihood judged on one bad experience. But as I sat in my car after my haircut with Paul at Mimosa, I cried. I didn't fully process my experience until I told my friends about it, and then came home and looked in the mirror and saw how butchered my hair was. I'm writing this because I want to let people know to be cautious of Paul but also because I hope it serves as a wake-up call to the salon. First off, Mimosa no longer carries Kerastase products, which I learned the hard way; they now use a foul-smelling line of products called Amika that honestly feels and smells so artificial and fragrant that I'm going to go rewash my hair after I write this (apparently it's sold at Walmart, so a totally different realm than Kerastase). For a $75 haircut, this is terrible. Secondly, I came in primarily for a blow dry and a trim; I have bangs and got a haircut two months ago and wanted to just touch things up for a trip I'm going on tomorrow. I was mostly interested in the blowdry. Paul insisted that I get a full haircut. I showed him photos of my ideal hair--big, bouncy, wavy, voluminous--and to show how I want my bangs trimmed. Paul barely looked at it, seemed irritated, and covered my phone (and the photos) with my cape. He asked me how much I wanted off my hair. I said I didn't want any length cut off. He insisted I should. I said okay, half an inch. He said I should do at least an inch, and he wouldn't cut any more off. I said okay. I said I really just wanted some bounce and movement; I have naturally wavy hair so I wanted to bring that out. He said he could do that by adding hidden layers. I said okay. From the hairwash onward, Paul manhandled my hair and my head like I've never experienced a stylist do before. I don't know how it's possible to have a painful shampoo experience, but he managed it. It seemed he wasn't tuned in at all to his client; he just talked a bunch about himself (frequently stopping mid-shampoo to ramble). By the time we were cutting, it steadily got worse. I could see chunks of hair, two to three inches long, coming off. At one point, the only time I said anything, I pointed out that I really prefer my part to be in the middle because--he didn't let me finish. He cut me off and said, "I know what I'm doing; do you want me to hand you the scissors and you can do it yourself?" I laughed it off and apologetically said, "No, I trust you." Paul has a big personality--he's aggressive, he's confident, he cuts you off midsentence because he thinks he knows what you're going to say. But it's not balanced with any empathy or gentleness, so it's hard to respond to him. He's easy to piss off, and he is standing next to you with scissors and the power to ruin your hair. So I closed my eyes and mentally kept repeating to myself, "It's only hair, it grows, it grows, it's fine." He cut my hair, then he blow-dried it. At the blow-dry, I tried to speak again, hoping beyond hope that I could at least get some good styling, even if my cut wasn't great. He began drying my hair, and got steadily more and more aggressive, yanking chunks of my hair. I twitched, but kept my mouth shut--again, you don't want to piss off the person who has power over you--but at one point, he yanked so hard, I audibly yelped. He went, "...Are you okay?" as if I was being irrational at reacting to my hair being ripped from my head. I simply said, "Sorry, I have kind of a sensitive scalp," hoping it would get him to be more gentle. His reaction? He scoffed. Yes. I didn't see his face, so I don't think he thought I caught it, but the guy laughed at the idea that he was hurting his client. I specifically said I wanted bouncy, voluminous, and wavy curls, because I wasn't planning to wash my hair for a few days so I wanted a style I could live in. As I'm writing this, just after getting home, my hair is flat and stick-straight. It doesn't look like anything from the salon's instagram--wavy, natural, beachy. It's flat and LIFELESS. It smells so, so, so bad. And my bangs? Jagged and butchered. As soon as my hair was almost dry, Paul swung me around to the mirror and said, "Enjoy!" and walked off. He didn't ask me how I felt, didn't pause to see my reaction. At that point, though, I could barely muster a reaction. I was shell-shocked, and scared of him. But I paid, and left him a tip, then I went to sit in my car and cry. I had a long week and I was looking forward to the haircut as the one moment I could relax and start getting excited for my trip. Instead, it was an hour of feeling ignored, hurt, belittled, and being so stressed and anxious that I kept my eyes closed praying it would end. This is not okay. This session was a nightmare. I really hope Paul and the salon examine what went wrong, and try to learn from it. Until then--if you're booking him, beware. read more

Signed me up for phone spam - Now getting texts from different places I went to this salon. I was fairly happy with my experience. The cut was ok and the atmosphere was fine. That was great and all. I was going to give them 3 to 4 stars. Yesterday, I noticed a text from them from some third party service that lets me track my appointments. Let's see, I didn't ask for that. I don't live in the area and don't have any other appointments. To boot, now I'm getting spam texts from unrelated parties. I've never had this before on my number. I'm also on the national do not call list. You can see the FCC's guidance below, but they should not be sending these. I called the salon to complain. Their response? Oh you can just opt out. Picture how useless your phone would be if ever person to whom you gave you number or email address added you onto a spam list. Sorry, but I didn't ask for this and it's BS to expect me to opt out of it. Under the FCC's rules, texts and commercial email messages may be sent to your mobile phone if you previously agreed to receive them. For texts that are commercial, your consent must be in writing (for example, in an email or letter); for non-commercial, informational texts (such as such as those by or on behalf of tax-exempt non-profit organizations, those for political purposes, and other noncommercial purposes, such as school closings) your consent may be oral. Great job. You had a customer who was happy with his service and now you've made an enemy. Next time, how about you idiots just do the sensible thing and ask, "Do you want to be signed up for our text reminder service?". You won't piss off customers that way. read more

This review is for Kaylee. DO NOT allow her to touch your face or body with waxing ! She completely ruined my brows , she not only cut off the tail but took off large chunks of hair in between . I needed to get my brows done prior to being in a wedding this Saturday , now they are ruined . I am very disappointed and in tears , even the receptionist agreed they were messed up ! I was a client of Salon Mimosa pre pandemic. I called to make a consultation appointment with Lauralai . I liked her Instagram posts of her highlighted blonde clients. After texting photos of my hair to the receptionist she said I should book with Janice instead of Lauralai. I was given the impression by the receptionist Lauralai's clientele does not have salt/pepper gray and or gray hair. It makes sense to me a colorist of Lauralai's expertise would focus her talents on a certain clientele. It would be no different if a colorist solely focused on coloring gray hair. I would respect and appreciate a colorist who was exclusive to a certain type of hair. I booked a consultation appointment with Lauralai as the receptionist did not have any photos of Janice's clients hair. I was honest with Lauralai when I met with her. I informed her I was looking for a long term colorist to do my hair that was a good fit for myself and the colorist/stylist. I showed her Salon Mimosa's Instagram photos of blonde highlights I liked. I asked her if my graying hair was an issue for her. She said no. However, she does not do precision cuts that my thick unruly hair requires. After my consultation with Lauralai, I booked an appointment with Janice for a hair cut consult. Shortly afterwards, I received a cancellation by text for my consultation with Janice. The text said the salon and staff did not like my approach. My approach was honest, upfront including communicating the type of color/cut I wanted with Salon Mimosa's staff.
