This is my fave local beauty supply. The associates are friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about helping you. They will spend lots of time listening to you to give you bespoke recommendations. Planet Beauty of Manhattan Beach is part salon, part apothecary, and of course, part beauty supply. They stock only vetted, high-end and quality brands that I know I can trust. The design and layout of the store is cute and well-appointed, which appeals to my girlie nature! The prices can be a bit high, however, they put out 20-25% off coupons nearly every weekend if you sign up for their email. They have also been willing to price-match with Amazon as long as it can be proven the brand is vetted "luxury." I don't mind that because there is a *ton* of knock-off beauty products on Amazon--the cheap comes out expensive, my friends! If you're unsure, just ask--they're really friendly about it! I went specifically for Jane Iredale cosmetics (I'm a big fan) and the two gals working were helpful, friendly, and attentive. I recently lost my makeup bag and needed a bunch of new stuff. They helped me pick out shades and try them on. If you're overwhelmed by Sephora, check out this local, boutique style establishment. And definitely go if you want Jane Iredale products. They had a promotion going on and I earned a generous coupon to use in December. Can't wait to go back get a few more things. *Update- they were out of two items I wanted during my initial trip to the shop, but the gal helping me said she'd call when they arrive. Not only did she follow up, she placed the items on hold for me and kept them held until I could get back to the store, which due to holiday travel was almost two weeks! Who does that?! When I returned to pick up my items and shop for a few more things, the gals working helped me narrow down what I needed by taking the time to listen to my concerns and made appropriate recommendations. I asked her to just cover the new grey growth and please, do not cover my highlights. Guess what....my highlight are covered!! my roots are totally dark. It is just horrible.... I am so upset..... she didn't even blow dry my hair!!!!! she said I didn't ask for it. it's almost hilarious when you think about it. you get your hair done but she won't dry it unless you ask for it. They were running a BOGO Special which was so appreciated as well. I received upon request a new primer sample by Smash Box to see how my skin would respond. I prefer a tiny sample first before I invest in an expensive product and find I have to return it. Regardless, I loved the new Smash Box Primer in a glass bottle pump that has hyaluronic acid in it. My skin has more moisture in it with this Smash Box primer than before with the previous primer I was using. What I really admire about Tiffany is that she can handle a lot of customers very well and gives her undivided attention to each one of us. She knows I think she is stellar so will confirm once again here for 2018 review. She did not make me feel pressured to buy anything and did not repeatedly keep asking me if I needed help. I notice with smaller shops (sometimes with bigger shops Too) employees will keep asking to help you so many times It gets uncomfortable and I end up leaving. With Scarlet I felt so welcome because she let me look around, test products and do my thing. Tiffany was so helpful! I was in the store for 2 hours browsing taking forever to make up my mind. While I was there Tiffany was constantly busy, helping each customer that came in the store and customers calling on the phone. I was impressed because she was the only employee in the store, but she managed to help each customer and gave genuine product knowledge. She checked in on me several times making sure not to neglect me just because she had a constant flow of customers in the store. I came here for in search for some curly-hair products. As soon as I entered, Tiffany greeted me and asked if she could assist in any way. She helped me find their most popular curly-hair brands + products; and spent a lot of time explaining similarities, differences, and finding the perfect combo for my hair. I felt so comfortable there, was totally able to ask a ton of questions, and got all my answers from her! It's different from experiences I've had at larger chain beauty supply stores. Usually I just roam around these other beauty stores and pick up products based off the cutest packaging, and don't get customer support. The staff is so knowledgeable, friendly, and available. This review is for the hairstylist, Audrey, at planet beauty. I did not have a good experience. I made an appointment for 11 and when I got there another client wanted to drop in and get a hair cut. Instead of having her come back after I was done, Audrey decided she was going to do both of us at the same time. So she colored my hair, then the other lady, then cut my hair and then the other lady, then blow dried my hair. So essentially it took almost twice the time in the salon because I had to wait while she was working on the other lady. I was there until 2:30... 3.5 hours! When I was getting my haircut I asked her if I should cut my bangs. She was like "mm hmm" and then cut them. Afterwards she made a big deal about how I would look so much better if I didn't have bangs. It seemed so unprofessional and it made me feel self conscious about my current look. Overall, she did a meh job on my hair, I've definitely had better hair cuts. It was on the high end as far as price. I would say her service was terrible and she was unprofessional, that is why I won't be returning. read more

The prices are ridiculous. $68 for a bottle of conditioner that I can get for $50 at other salons and places. I love Colorproof and it's only found at limited places but it's not fair to hike up prices and offer "specials" to make it seem like it's a deal. I found this conditioner online for $49 plus $10 off my first purchase. Maybe this is why store fronts are failing, online shopping is easier and cheaper for consumers and it is also less overhead for stores so they can offer better prices. I'm sure Manhattan beach store front is expensive and it reflects in the pricing. read more

First time coming to this Planet Beauty location and have mixed feelings. The first lady that helped me was horrible. I walk up to her at the make-up counter and she is so busy applying make-up from one of the "Testers" that she doesn't even notice me. I had to say "Hi" three times before she even realized I was talking to her and apologies and said she thought I was talking to someone on the phone. Umm... no... you would have realized I wasn't on the phone if you weren't so busy putting on make-up when you should be working and helping customers. Anyways.. so... now that I have her full attention, I ask her some questions and she shows me a few things. But in the middle of her "helping" me, she suddenly walks away to the front desk/cash register and never comes back. I thought she was just helping someone for a moment, but then she disappears to the back or something. So I'm sort of standing around, not knowing what to do... waiting for someone to help me. I thought about leaving, but I had to use my 50% Groupon. Finally, after a few minutes, I see another lady (the assistant manager) and I ask her if she can help me. She was actually really sweet and really helpful. She took her time trying to help me find the right products and also gave me some helpful recommendations and beauty tips. I will not be back to this location. I think Planet Beauty is a fine if you already know what you want, otherwise you are far better off going to Sephora where the associates there are so helpful, so friendly and so knowledgeable. read more

I went into this store today to check it out. I decided since it was close to my gym I would stop by before I went to work out. Apparently going into this store in gym clothes renders you unacceptable for service. I was in the store for probably 10 minutes.... I clearly needed assistance because nothing had prices on it, but the two girls working were apparently far too busy with the zero other customers to assist me. I had a living social coupon I needed to use so I bought something with it just so I would never have to go back to this store ever again. Such horrible service. read more

So....when did this store start closing for lunch? I came here hoping to make a quick purchase for a couple of items only to find it was closed for a half and hour lunch break. Now, I am all about employees getting their breaks. Really, I am. But closing the store and putting up a sign tells me a couple of things that I really don't want to know: You (Planet Beauty) do not have enough employees on staff and there is a reason you do not enough employees on staff. There was one woman/customer willing to wait the entire half and hour but a few of us just left. I ended up going to a competitor in Redondo Beach which was having a promotion so in actuality, I fared better. Don't know if I will be back here again. I'm cruelty free and they have a large selection of products for me including Jane iredale, Rodial, Ahava and other newer unique brands. Different price points with products clearly marked. All of the women who work there are helpful and know all about their products. There's a personal touch you don't get at manhattan village Sephora or Ulta near the South Bay galleria where you have to wait forever to get waited on. They greet me by name and remember what products I've used, asking for feedback if it's a newer line for them. I would call it a boutique beauty store. I was a little disappointed today going into this store. I initially went here because it's the only store near me that carries Sol De Janiro. When I walked in I wasn't greeted at all. The store was pretty much empty. It took about 10min until one of the associates notice me and asked if I needed help right when I was headed to the register to pay.
