This is such charming little store. They have a huge selection, considering their size. The staff is knowledgeable (nerdy, in a good way) and friendly. I'm really glad this store exists in Castro Valley.

Lots of supplies, card game stuff, wall books etc near the front register

Crush is a fantastic comic shop. One of the friendliest shops I've ever frequented in my decades of going to comic shops. For anyone who's been to a few, you know some owners who can be unwelcoming or unfriendly or insular. It's the exact opposite at Crush. Josh and Andrea and everyone who works there (I used to see Cole all the time and now I run into Tyler too) is immediately welcoming and easygoing. Their positive attitude and inclusive atmosphere reflects in who shops there too. I've seen every kind of fan shop here and it makes me happy to see. They have a great selection of new books every Wednesday, a huge stock of graphic novels, single issues, and wall books. They just started carrying Games Workshop / Warhammer 40k / Age of Sigmar stuff too! Really excited to be able to pick up comics and hobby stuff in the same trip now. I picked up the new 9th ed Core book and there was a line to get Indomitus before the store opened today. If you're looking for a box, give them a call though- they might still have some. Super safe, super friendly store. Check em out!

The perfect comic they pointed me to

Visited yesterday and had a fantastic experience. They had a large number of old trades in stock, which was perfect since that's exactly what I was in the mood to pick up. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to get and the employees there were super helpful in talking about my taste in comics and what I've already read and pointing me in the right direction. To top it off, I was very impressed with their setup as far as Covid precautions. They greeted me with hand sanitizer at the door, their aisles were moved far apart enough to allow for lots of space, and there were very clear markings on the floor to keep appropriate distance from others. As a customer, it felt great to go to a business that takes our safety seriously. It was a great experience and I left with a new graphic novel that was exactly what I was looking for!

I think I have a love/hate thing going on with this place. This has been my go to comic store since I was 14 and where I got my giant squishable panda too (when they carried them a long time ago). There are rows of comics and the more popular ones displayed in the front. If you ever want some funko pops, there's a giant display with them (a few exclusive ones too!) When I was younger, I didn't notice the customer service much and only cared about the comics and stuff... nowadays, the younger guy at the register is amazing and super helpful but the owner makes me feel like I'm trespassing his store. I'm not a diehard comic fan but I do like my occasional dose of Gambit or Marvel comics (especially with the new tsum tsum covers on them). The owner pretty much only glares unless it's a super frequent diehard customer that he knows well. There are no "hi" or "welcome" from him whatsoever and I'd actually prefer not to go in the store if he's in the front. As for calling/messaging the store, I think personally think it's best to call since they don't seem too active on their Facebook page. Final Thoughts: Aside from the customer service "glare" from the owner, I love this shop to death! I'm sure I'm not the only once since I've seen a mom grab her kid out of the store after getting stared down by the owner.

We didn't come up with a close by card store, but there was this comic book store we decided to stop and try. The owner was very very nice. Easy to talk to. I've visited this store about four times now, and unfortunately, each visit left me with the same…read moreimpression. First, the customer service is not great. I don't expect owners or employees to act like best friends with every customer, but basic friendliness goes a long way. A simple greeting, a smile, or even a respectful tone would make a difference. Every time I came in, I tried to say hello with a smile, but I was usually met with cold shoulders, blank looks, or no response at all. I've seen mixed reviews from other people, so maybe experiences vary, but from what I personally noticed, customers seem to be treated differently for reasons I can't quite put my finger on. Second, the language used by the staff/owners was uncomfortable. I brought my nephews with me, and there were also other families with kids in the store. The workers or owners didn't seem shy about throwing around curse words, including f-bombs, in front of everyone. I understand this is not a children's store, but if kids and families are present, it really should not be that hard for grown adults to keep it professional for a few minutes. At one point, I exchanged looks with another parent, and we both clearly felt the same way. Lastly, the pricing is disappointing. They do have some rare figures, but many of them are overpriced even when you factor in shipping from online sellers. The loose figures were also poorly packed and still expensive, which makes them hard to justify. Overall, the prices felt pretty close to eBay, sometimes without the convenience or buyer protection that online shopping offers. Maybe this place is worth checking out if you live in the Bay Area and want to avoid shipping, but based on my visits, I don't see a strong reason to come back. Experiences like this are exactly why online stores continue to thrive.

My wife came years ago with my kids to make me a…read more"#1 dad" display and I wanted to do the same for her especially when I remembered she was gone at the store for more than an hour. The best part for us was the "build it yourself section" where they have a loose pile of bulk lego as well as a wall with more organized sorting. You can build anything here and every part you use is 25 cents at the register. My kids favorite part was looking for all the figure parts to make a recreation of our family. All those minifigure parts are up front near the "Lego Movie" Wildstyle statue. Near the register is also all the minifigures, I loved looking through these and seeing all the cool old lego figures I grew up with. The middle of the store has a huge city display you can tell was put together passionately. They also have used and brand new sets for sale. I let my kids each pick something around $15 for helping build a present for their mother and it was hard for them to choose with so many options! The store was totally packed the entire time we were there but staff and owners were super kind and helpful in finding random bits for us and other customers.
