Great spot!! My husband and I were in San Leandro one day and he wanted to stop at a trading card spot to look for Pokemon cards or One Piece cards for our son. So onto Yelp I searched. We didn't come up with a close by card store, but there was this comic book store we decided to stop and try. The owner was very very nice. Easy to talk to. He said no, he didn't have anything as far as trading cards go, but he suggested some other places to try. First time at Comic Shop for Free Comic Book Day. Great store and great customer service. Some amazing finds in their dollar box. Sensational She-Hulk #1 (1989) by John Byrne! This is a $85-$125 comic in mint condition, which this was not and I don't have a problem with that. Comic books are meant to be read. Really fun, epic She-Hulk run by John Byrne, Iconic cover. This TPB is out of print and sells for top dollar. Thanks, Comic Shop! What a score. Promethea #29 Written By Alan Moore; Art By J.H. Williams Iii. One of the most beautiful written and beautifully drawn comics of 1999. Smax #5 by Alan Moore. All of these Alan Moore comics on America Best Comics are gems. Alan Moore getting his 2nd wind and having fun with comic books again. Coup D'etat #1 Written By Ed Brubaker; Art By Jim Lee, #2 Written By Micah Ian Wright; Interesting event storyline where The Authority seizes control of the US Government. This TPB is out of print and since Micah Ian Wright was fired by DC and blacklisted from comics for stolen valor everything he's written has stayed out of print. The Authority story with art by Jim Lee that DC will probably never ever reprint in our lifetime. And some FCBD Greatest America Superhero, Superman, ect. This was small comic shop, in a old run down strip mall in San Leandro /San Lorenzo area. The place is small of comics, but they have a good selection of old and new comics. The range from old Batman , spawns, and wet works ( you know if know from image comics back in the days). Amazing place the parking lot is a bit sketchy. read more

This was my first time at this store. There were two white men working in the store. I didn't get their names but they were super nice and helpful! I looked through the $1 comic section for a while. I was looking for some comics for the kids I work with. I asked for help, explained my situation, and they pointed me to a better shelf for kids which was perfect for what I was looking for. They were also super nice bc they gave me a discount for the kids comics :) (The kids will so appreciate it!) It was my older brother's birthday and I asked them to point me over to their Spawn section. They were so helpful, they pointed me to the Sam and Twitch comics. Friendly staff and always greets when walking in. They have a big selection of comics as well as a large collection of manga. Most of the trade backs are of older runs like DC Rebirth & ealy Marvel Fresh Start. They also sell funko pops and some board games. A decent enough local comic shop, offering a large selection of current issues, some older back issues, variants, and a solid collection of board games. I had met up with some coworkers at work on a Saturday and figured afterwards I'd hit up the Comic Shop. Located in a strip mall next to Tapsilog Express, this isn't exactly the spot you'd expect to find a comic shop, but it works. As it is still the pandemic, the staff was only letting in limited people, and while I was there, there was only ever one other customer. I quickly went to their back issue section, which is islands in the middle of the store, and with rows throughout, so don't just check the top section. I did find some back issues of Deadpool I have been hunting for and called it a win. I also checked out the current issues and variants, but had the ones I wanted already. They also have a couple trading card game packs. Grabbed some Magic cards for fun as well. I'm absolutely spoiled with my selection at Cape & Cowl, but if in San Leandro, this is a solid local spot. Do need to check out Crush Comics, though. read more

Each comic shop has its pros and cons in regards to its collection. The cons: not too many silver age comics (maybe they were hiding somewhere?) The pros: NUMEROUS copies of the '80s and 90's X-Men AND X-Factor run. The store is super clean and organized. Parking is cool and they sell bags and board and bags. Went to the shop today and got the comics that I was eyeing when I came here for Free Comic Book Day as my first visit to this shop. I love it here! They had what I wanted: -Cutie Honey omnibus -Elvira -Vampirella and I was able to get Bunny Mask which I absolutely loved when I read the free comic. book day edition. I am especially very grateful for the Bunny Mask copy I was given. I wished I had asked for the worker's name buuuut my over excitement over actually getting all the books I wanted (for once in a comic shop) had it slip my mind. The worker was very helpful overall and she told me when the next release for Bunny Mask would be too. Which I highly appreciated! I am definitely going to visit here again! read more

The customer service here is just plain awful. I've been here many times these past few months and have never been greeted or asked if I need anything. I'm able to overlook that because they have a huge selection of manga but today I decided I'm never coming back. Why? I was at the door at 6:30pm today (7/30/21) I rung the chains they have so they know they have a customer. The woman who was working turned around and SIGHED vey LOUDLY. Closing time is 7. I have a lot of time to browse and get out of there before then. I picked up a comic and took it to the register. She didn't say anything to me. Not one word. I gave her my payment and left. I'm sorry I bothered you with my support to the local comic shop. My husband and I won't be bothering you anymore. There are plenty of other comic shops around. read more

Only reason why they get two stars is because of Chris who is really nice and understanding. It's really frustrating when I make sure I get a run of books I inform them months and advance and when the books are released they don't have a copy for me. Happened twice. With my experience if you need anything talk to Chris who works weekdays because anyone else I spoke to couldn't comprehend what I needed. Sadly I will be taking my business elsewhere. They have a pretty decent selection of comics and manga, but the customer service here seriously needs work/replacements. We came in today and asked if they were open since they had the door blocked and their open sign was off and the female cashier slammed down the comic that she was placing within a sleeve and grabbed her mask to put on and said "yea...we're open..." she let us in and we began looking around. Strange that they wanted to appear closed at 4pm when they don't close until 7pm. What's also strange is that the sign at their door says mandatory masks or no entry, yet both employees didn't have them on, and were annoyed that they had to end up putting one on since customers were in the store. Both cashiers remained behind the counter while everyone was browsing around in the store. They clearly didn't want to be bothered. When it came time to pay, we made our way over to them. We set our selections down and she grabbed them and began ringing us up. She rudely said "We have a $10 minimum...". No big deal, we paid cash, and I guess she didn't have proper change or couldn't perform simple math, because she gave us back more than she was supposed to . She handed us our items and didn't say anything, so we just took our stuff and left. 2 stars for the selection and 0 stars for the lazy staff members who hid behind the counter listening to Taylor Swift while 6+ people were in the store. read more

I've been getting back into comics lately and stumbled upon this place here on Yelp. I wanted to get a bunch of comics rated so I could see what their value was and they were glad to help. Every time I've gone to this shop everyone has been extremely cool and helpful. Raymond in particular was extra helpful and patient answering my hundreds of questions about getting my comics rated. I came in here looking for some relatively mainstream comics and to special order a few I expected to not be on the shelves. I was hoping for a bit more inventory of games, collectibles, and books but it looked a bit like they were either just moving in or moving things around. I don't do reviews. I can only tell you how I feel. Like anyplace you go you'd want to create and build a relationship. When I first came to this shop 4 years ago I didn't know what to do. I had just gotten back into comics. Spawn, WildCATS and Cyberforce weren't the same thing anymore. End of 2019 I decided to start one of those "pull boxes". Since then I'd come in regularly. I still didn't know what to buy. I'd pick up my pulls. After a month or so of not going I'd get a friendly reminder. Just before the pandemic hit I was getting to know Chris. He'd slip some books in my pull he thought I may like. No pressure to buy them either. Batman was ramping up. Venom was hot. SIKTC just introduced us to Erica Slaughter. Chris was there with the recommendations. I started my podcast and started to buy more. My kids and step kids were getting more interested in comics. Chris and The Comic Shop have been there to help me with some awesome recommendations. When you step in on Wednesday's, say hi. Treat Chris like that rock star he is. He puts in a lot for us collectors who love our books. Start your pull box. Make sure to get them orders in before FOC. Just don't be an asshole. Be cool. If you didn't get that one-per-store or 1:50 then you missed out. The world will still turn, you'll still have your coffee and next week you'll have another chance at another banger. Chris is awesome, guys. He gotchu, just make sure you got him. No attitude. No whining. And most of all have fun. We all love our comics. And this is a great place to get them. Enjoy. read more

Really hot in here. That's my biggest takeaway. I think most of these places have little to no windows (and the only circulating air coming from the front door), so I guess that's to be expected. It was also closed when we arrived at around 12ish (there was the "Be back in a minute" sign, but the owner or worker came out about 2-3 minutes later to let us in). Maybe taking lunch or restocking? Not sure, but a little annoying. Either way, it's pretty barebones inside, but there's some cool action figures if you're into it. Located in a pretty large plaza with a lot of non-descript buildings (literally, aside from Dollar Tree, some of the other businesses are just named "Barber" and "Fish and Chips")...can't knock their honesty. read more

It's a cool lil shop but they have a bunch of single issues, trade paperbacks, graphic novels etc & they're very organized. It's been a while since I've been in the comic book scene, b4 here I was mostly getting my DC fix from animated tv shows/movies (batman the animated series will always be the greatest cartoon ever!!) so once I got my car fixed I drove to the comic shop the same day and asked the guy what's a good series to start on. He suggested any of the rebirth series since it just started and would be easier to keep up on. I love talking comics with this guy. Really knowledgeable and answers any questions I may have. So far I've been going there every week for the last month and I plan on returning every week. read more

Great selection, informed friendly staff, and good location!

My family has been going here since the old location in Greenhouse Marketplace. I was never really into comics before, but once I saw some that interested me and talked with the friendly and knowledgeable staff, I was hooked! My husband was already familiar with the comic world so he had fun with the gems he'd find. Don't let the name fool you though, it's not just about comics. There are so many fun games in here - many with pop culture relations. Looking for a Doctor Who Monopoly or a Borderlands Yahtzee? Good chance you'll find it here. Don't see what you're looking for? Just ask! They've done really well with ordering something if it's available. Also, what I've found extremely helpful for regulars like us, when I couldn't remember if I've purchased something because sometimes I hadn't organized my comics, they can look it up and let us know. That way I know if we can just pick up something I thought was cool or if I already thought that and have it somewhere at home. I can get forgetful so that comes in handy! The store itself has plenty of room to move around and that helps as my daughter is in a wheelchair. I love that it's not cramped or hard to move around like other places can be so that we can take her with no problem. I always send friends and family here and I recommend this local shop. This is a great place to pick out novelty gifts or get specific items for a collection. So a store sent me an email tonight. The owner (I presume) couldn't be bothered with actually signing her name. The email did show me a copy of the previous receipt and I had indeed NOT been charged for the boxes (two visits ago). So why not include a copy of the receipt with the note which claimed I owed them money? (I did recognize my other purchases on the receipt.) According to the email, the employee at the register was told as soon as I left that I wasn't charged for the boxes. (Okay, I was repeating what I recalled hearing in my conversation with the employee. I might have been mistaken or the employee could have misspoken.) Why not try to find me in the parking lot? Why not send me an email? (As I mentioned in my previous review, they had my contact info, a personal email being pretty reasonably evidence in support of that statement.) read more
