I've lived in the neighborhood for 10 years and had no idea such an awesome comic book and manga shop was so close by! The staff are super friendly, the selection is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. I was especially impressed that they even had a full shelf dedicated to BL and another just for manga -- such a rare find. I wasn't even planning on buying anything at first, but then I spotted Frieren manga and decided to pick up a couple volumes to support a great local business. I have been following Sour Cherry Comics since it was a pop up. We Stan a woman-owned artist business! Love the energy, love the vibe. There is something for everyone including a bunch of children's lit, graphic novels and manga, a smattering of fiction and memoir, and a small gallery space in the back. Sour Cherry Comics is conveniently located on Guerrero and 16th and they also host events! Looking forward to their poetry reading and writing club. San francisco is blessed with a lot of great comic stores, but for the past couple of years I've been favoring Sour Cherry more and more, despite living pretty far away. A great atmosphere and staff, a delightful curation of western comics, Manga, and prose books, and extremely fun events. Specializes in queer romance but you can find most things there. Would recommend to anyone I know. read more

Awesome comic shop/bookstore! Comics, manga, books, toys, trinkets, and an assortment of other items. There's a ton of LQBTQ+ material, but you will also find other genres (for example, I saw a decent sampling of shoujo and horror manga). Kids/juvenile section in the front, material for YA and adults in the back. There's even a small basket of on-sale books. The owner also packs themed 'mystery bags', for readers who are interested in a particular genre but don't know where to start. Ther's a small lounging area/couch in the back, probably used for the various events. The layout/ambiance of the store is warm and welcoming (vs. the stark white lighting you often see in other comic stores). As a result, I felt really comfortable taking my time and looking around. The owner was friendly, left me alone to browse around at my leisure (and I browed for a longggg time). At checkout, we ended up chatting about a manga artist we both really like, and she had lots of recommendations for other books/series. I typically prefer purchasing used books (save our resources, etc. etc.) but I would most definitely come back here to buy the occasional new release! read more

Great little places, has small free gatherings for writers and the like; check their calendar. I came in and was not pressured or bothered besides the occasional offer for recommendations. I really love the street smart newspaper they have, the LGBTQ+ safe environment they have, and they have an extensive collection of manga and plushies. I definitely recommend giving this place a visit if you're in San Francisco. read more

Absolutely love this adorable new shop in the Mission. Popped in on a whim as I was passing by this evening and found out it had just opened up a week ago! Leia is the owner and she had so many great recommendations (and her dog Benny is the most adorable little greeter you'll ever meet).
