This one's tough because I don't want to leave a bad review for a place I've been to once, but I'll give you all the details of my visit. Upon walking in the door, I peeked to my right and saw a magazine rack selling Fangoria. Right on. Also, saw the fella' behind the register and immediately went up to him to ask where the new comics were, as it was a Wednesday. He kind of points to his right and says "It's where the sign for new comics are." I couldn't see it. There were racks in front of where I was standing and that section. I asked so I wouldn't have to wander through the game tables and other merchandise. I was looking for new comics. Thought it was a little rude, but it didn't really bother me. So I get to the new comics section. It's completely unorganized. Or maybe it was organized, but by someone with an OCD disorder that only makes sense to them. Is it that hard to have DC, Marvel, Boom, IDW etc separated nicely to look through the issues by company? It was madness. Also, the comic racks were a bit ramshackle. A lot of the books were bent, worn, and some even looked folded in half when I was looking. I wouldn't buy a six dollar comic for any reason in that kind of condition, considering they were supposed to be "brand new". I continued to look through the stuffed, unorganized shelves to find something to buy as what I was looking for was nowhere to be found. That's fine and I'll get into that in a moment, but I wasn't just/only looking for the "hot" comics right then. Image is always coming out with new number ones that look interesting, and I couldn't find anything. Seriously, I wanted to spend some money, so I'm trying to find absolutely anything. Didn't happen. So, I go back up to the register and just ask about the titles I'm looking for. Every title I ask about I get a two word answer, "Sold Out". Now, this is fair, I was there late and the fellow told me that his patrons are usually coming in around noon and buying the new books up then. Bummer for me. Seems if your stock gets eaten up that quick, you'd order a few more copies of said titles, but I don't know how to run a comic shop. Who knows? Okay, better things. It isn't really my bag, but it seemed like they had a lot of boxes of back issues. I doubt that place is going to let you grab a key issue for cheap, but it's probably worth checking out if you're trying to complete a run. So, that seemed decent. They had a shelf of trades, nothing caught my eye because I either have already read or own the ones I would be interested in, but I suppose it would be worth a look. They were all fairly older, and it didn't seem like they were discounted at all. I did not exactly peruse them to see if that was the case, just seemed that way. That's okay, though because it's far better to support an LCS than just snagging them online. I saw that they had some gaming tables, and some folks were doing just that. It's always a nice addition to a store. I didn't even head in that section, so I have no insight on cool boardgames, RPGs, or card game selection. Could be great. The sign on the outside says "Anime Imports", instead of "CoastsideComics", so maybe that's what they do and comics are just a backseat now. I don't have the option to get there early, so I could have started a pull list and waited a couple of months for that to start getting going. I'm buying about fifteen-eighteen titles a month, but I couldn't get over how they treat their shelved comics, so I decided not to. Conclusion: This is not a store for me. Not organized. About a quarter of the books look like they've been read over and over and kept in someone's back pocket. No way to pop in and get something new after one pm. Register guy was okay, but not very helpful with the slightest touch of...I dunno, it wasn't completely rude, just kind of unwelcoming to an obviously new to this store customer. I tried desperately to find something to buy, and I'm a comic guy! I would have bought anything that looked remotely interesting. Just didn't have anything. I guess that's it. read more

The service was ok, and there are a lot of comics here to choose from. Not much for younger kids though, this is definitely a place for adults with enthusiasm for comics and Magic card games. I bought a couple of Hercules comics and I was very happy with the price. I may be back in the future. read more

The merchandise and inventory is great here as far as comics. I was able to search for things easily as it was organized. But the employee working there brought the experience to a new level. I guess he was training a new person. While he was doing that he decided to dog out everyone else and talk about there work ethic. That's not how you instill work ethic to a new employee. I really learned too much stuff about the other folks that work and how lazy they are or how much they keep organizing the same things. Won't be going back at all to this place. I don't usually leave reviews, but my experiences over the last couple of visits have been horrible. Both times, I left the store angry due to rude customer service. I felt like the person behind the counter hates dealing with people. It's extremely disappointing because I've been going to Coastside Comics for years. After the change of ownership the place doesn't feel as welcoming anymore specially for comic collectors. read more

Very misleading - no longer a real comic book store - all about anime/gaming

If you need back issues this is the place to go. However some of the comics they have are extremely over priced. Yes the books are valuable or a key issue but the the price for raw comics here are the same as a Graded comic. For example there was a raw Thor issue which was a 6.5 maybe 7 if I was squinting. Anyways the book was not in the best condition but they had it for over one hundred dollars which is what a CGC high grade copy is worth. read more

The Annual Free Comic Book Day is on the first Saturday of May. This shop always have comics remaining even after 5pm. Other shops tend to run out earlier! Plus, specials like 50% off back issues (of course, I left with a few purchases). Just over the hill in Pacifica, and in a mini-shopping plaza. Bright and clean, and the owner(?) was a friendly guy based on his interaction with other customers and regulars. Plenty of free parking in the area and I'd return. Latest comics are mixed in with previous issues so takes a little time to search for one type or the other. I used to collect these in my young'un days so it was a nice bit of nostalgia. read more

Guy at the desk rudely told my 7 year old son to put the Pokemon box down. Did he forget he was once a 7 year old who got so excited to see a fresh new box on the shelf? Instead of pointing out the other boxes for sale on the shelf behind him, he said "I have a low stock now." Not sure why he didn't want to sell anything to us! read more

Normally I have to tell a cute story to help sell a place but with Coastside Comics I'm going to take the straight forward approach. Literally one of the best comic shops I've been to in my lifetime and that is coming from a VOLTRON (original lion Voltron) size comic fan. Romy is a cool guy, very knowledge and if he doesn't have something usually knows where to get it but they usually have it. I have my own version of JLA vs LOD in my office. It's made up of about 20 different DC action figures and I got all but 1 from Coastside. Really it's just a SUPER cool comic spot & glad it's close to home. read more

Been here multiple times and I find the customer service very unhelpful. Unsure if it's because I am a female in a comic book store. But I always get the feeling I am unwanted. I went the store today to buy the new Pokémon pack and I find they have already pre-sold/people pre-paid in advance most of their stock and was unable to sell me products that were just delivered. They mentioned no such service as I have called multiple times for if they had this item in stock. Also they have raised 50% increase on the prices of Pokémon booster packs. It retails for $4 and they sell them for $6 read more

Cool spot it was my first time in a comic book store. A co worker recommended to read up on some comic books as trying something new to read. I went in today and this place has a lot of parking, the inside is big and with a big selection of comic books. The staff was knowledgeable and welcoming, he answered all my questions and made recommendations. The shop can be kept a bit more organized with areas that looked empty or just not appealing. I will be coming back to check out more comic books for myself and my son. read more

5 stars and I'm not even a big comic book fan. I was looking for a couple gifts, and got some great suggestions from Pokémon to power rangers comic books. I hate this place. I was looking for old comics and all I got were these new comics. When I was looking in the bins an employee walked up to me and told me to stop looking through the bins of old comics. The sign that said you couldn't do that was a shriveled up torn piece of paper. My friends and I like comics but go to San Francisco instead, and refuse to give these losers business. read more

In a time where comics are mainstream and everyone has this whole, 'i know more about comics that you do' attitude, its nice to know there are shops out there that keeps to the basics and actually being helpful to the consumers. My friends and i accidentally found this comic store on a whim, (possibly after eating in the pizza joint) and has now become our main stop on picking up books on Wednesdays. Their back issue collections are plentiful, but the greatest thing about this place is that they stock both popular comics and ones that unknown/high risk comics (high risk due to the possible ordering and no sales of the titles). Only reason of lack of the 5 star treatment is the lack of trades (yep I'm a tradesman). Other than that, i like this place. read more

Has a good supply of recent and back issue comics. A bit lacking in compilations. Doesn't have much in the way of collectibles if your looking for those. Quite heavy in Marvel and D.C. Just a smattering of other publishers, so you're not going to find the indies here. I'm not a player, so I can't evaluate their Magic and related stock, though they carry it. This place gets 4 stars simply because it's one of the only comic stores left without going into the city and the owner is real nice. A little unorganized but beggars can't be choosers. The guy Lee is a nice guy. He always greets me and helps me all the time. He updates me on the dates my comics are coming out. The other guys that work there are not so helpful. The old man and the other guy don't greet you or help you until you pay. Thats why i try n go only when Lee is working. This place is small but has the comics i like. read more

I would never checked out this place if it wasn't for my Bro who came from NYC, and is also an avid comic book reader. There is a wide selection for anyone to chose from, new and old. The shop keeper as so polite, and always ready to take orders for new comics requested by customers. I love to go here when Wednesday is too far and I need a comics fix bad. Its nice and hidden and the flow of nerds are thin. The back issues are plenty and the selection is wide. Many comic book stores have come and gone but Coastside Comics and Romy are still here. I check in monthly to pick up my Previews order, and my two kids are now into collecting (and READING) too. If it's not in the store, Romy can try to find it for you. He never fails to put my pre-order books and merchandise aside. He's totally flexible when it comes to adding and/or dropping titles. Coastside Comics is a great source for all your comic book, graphic novel, and Comic toy needs. Romy and team have great customer service and provide great customer service and a great deal of insight into the comic book world. I have personally shopped here many times and have never had anything but fantastic service. In my opinion there is not a more friendly, greatly priced comic book shop around. very bad customer service i have been there 5 times and each time the employee or owner i dont know is in the back and does not come out to help i ask where something is and instead of showing me they just yell it out. they never have any of the incentive issues for new release comics and they have yet to open on time very sad, i hope they go out of business soon it would serve them right So now it looks like they get some moron to leave messages for people who left legit reviews insulting them lol this store is truly a dump and it's employees are good for nothing So it's Sunday 3:45 pm store says open until 5pm and it's closed lol worst comic shop EVER read more

I've never really gotten into the comic book scene but I did have a large baseball card collection when I was younger. The first time I set foot in one of these places in about twenty years was when my daughter wanted to start collecting Pokemon cards. Apparently these things are making a comeback or maybe they just never went away and I wasn't aware of it. We came in here and bought a few packs of cards and a case for them and the guy behind the counter was very nice and gave us some freebies too. Friendly service and say hi to us when you come in because now she wants to come here every day for the rest of our lives. Which is cool with me because I'm all about spoiling the Kids. read more

Remy is the man. I live in SF so I go to the shop closest to my house. I asked my shop to make sure to give me anything and everything Deadpool. Unfortunately Deadpool is always having miniseries, one shots and the like and my shop occasionally forgets to save those for me. That's when I hit up my boy Remy in Pacifica! He more often than not has at least a few issues left so I fly out there at TopSpeed to pick them up. Also if there are any gaps in your current collection check out his back issues. He might have exactly what you're looking for to fill those gaps. I visit here on occasion when I have time to drive all the way to Pacifica. This is a small store that has a pretty decent selection of comics. They get the pretty recent stuff in, so it's a nice place to check out if you're hunting for comics both new and old.
