***UPDATE from my original review, as It only takes ONE person to completely mess up your ENTIRE experience. In this case it's this tall, skinny maintenance guy with long hair and wears rounded glasses (same maintenance guy from original review). He feels like he can just barge into people's home without giving them adequate time to get up/get to the door. On NUMEROUS occasions, I have been nude (ya know....cause it's MY home) and didn't have time to answer the door before he began entering! Knocking ONCE and saying "maintenance" doesn't give you the RIGHT to enter!! ON TOP OF THAT I said "I'm coming, give me one second" TWICE! I mean I didn't scream it but I said it AT the door so I KNOW he heard me. He also talks to us very rudely as if we are stupid and don't understand what he is explaining. When he's the one NOT listening to what we are saying. Like he has some predetermined opinion on what's going on. He made a snarky comment today implying that we shouldn't have called the emergency (after-hours) line when our A/C went out. He clearly was upset that we had our top lock secured and he had to be a decent human being and WAIT two more seconds for us to answer OUR door.... I open the door, he enters my home with no greeting, tells me he's not taking his shoes off (because he's diabetic) and refuses to put on shoe covers. He then says, "So you called an emergency number last night because your A/C was at 75 degrees?? " ... I wanted to say...First of all, you know we didn't call because it was 75 degrees. You JUST told me your partner informed you that it was 78 degrees when he talked to us. So, No fool! We called because it had been 81 degrees all day and WAS TOLD to call if it hadn't gotten cooler. The ONLY reason it was 78 degrees, WHEN WE CALLED, was because it was now 8 o clock at night!! The ONLY reason it's 75 degrees NOW, is because we were brought a portable A/C so we could sleep comfortably. Which ran at 60 degrees THE ENTIRE NIGHT. If our A/C wasnt the problem, it would be much cooler beyond 75 in the entire place! He made another snarky comment after instructing me to turn the unit on, "Well it's pulling in 75 air now so..." DUH! Because the portable A/C unit is blowing 60 degree air RIGHT HERE next to the vent! It's mixing with the hot air, sir!!! Are you HVAC or am I?? He left without word of how long it would take, if he was coming back up, what to do next, NOTHING. I heard him, speaking loudly, on the phone with someone. I couldn't make out what he was saying about us or the situation. However, at this point, I had already assumed the negative. All I know, is there has been a random box sitting on my doorstep for a few hours. It appears to be A/C stuff in it. So, I assume he is coming back. He has always had SOMETHING snarky to say to us. To either "scold" us for having the top lock secured, to TRY and make us feel like WE are the problem or like WE are doing something wrong! Instead of analyzing the actual problem, talking with your coworkers to figure out what they did and FIXING THE PROBLEM! Instead, it seems, he tries to patch up the issue and gets mad when he has to actually work. "Dont put your air below 70 degrees", he says. We haven't! And its still 81 degrees so what's up? Also, I should be able to have my house cooled to 65 if I want! Especially at night when you can't blame the sun! "Close your blinds, you're on the third floor", he says. Well, this hasn't been a problem before and why else are they there if we cant open them? "75 should be cool enough." For who!?! And that still doesn't fix the fact that the A/C is broken!! "The attic above you is hot, so it's gonna be hot in here." ALL THE MORE REASON WHY WE WANT OUR A/C TO COOL OUR HOUSE PAST 75 DEGREES! I cant help but feel like it's a black and white thing. I can't IMAGINE him talking to, or treating, the white residents like this! I'd much rather have Richard fix our issues from now on! He treats us like PEOPLE and is VERY kind. We even talk about Game of Thrones, sometimes! Never has he been rude or demeaning. Even when he thought I was embellishing on something, he still came to check it without judgement. I lived at the Crowne at Grandview for almost 5 years and I don't think the other reviews are doing this place justice. The maintenance guys are some of the nicest and most responsive people I have ever had at an apartment (plus they love dogs... extra points!) and the apartments themselves were very nice and well maintained. We really loved living here and would recommend it to anyone looking for an apartment in Birmingham (just know what you're getting into being right off 280). The only "negative" about living here is the sheer amount of Highlands college kids that drive really fast and are quite loud (as well as the massive construction next-door); however, we lived on the quieter side and didn't have an issue except while walking around during the evenings. I can't believe some of these comments. I have lived here since 2009 and all employees have been extremely nice and very accommodating. It is a very quiet place to live. The only issue is people not picking up their dog poop. Otherwise the staff is GREAT!!! read more

I'm only writing a review because I finally decided to take a look at their yelp reviews and realized they aren't a reflection of my experience. This is my second year living here and I have had no experience with loud neighbors, cars laying on the horn, gate issues, barking or anything else listed in the other two reviews. I have enjoyed my stay which is why I renewed my lease for a second year. Kristy is the leading consultant I've dealt with the past few year and she's been great from the very beginning to present day. The property manager, banks I believe, is also a delight. There are monthly events that take place from resident breakfasts, pool parties, play dates at the dog park etc. summer months offer popsicles at the pool every Saturday. The only reason I'm not giving them five starts is because I pay roughly $930 for a 890 square foot apartment that is not renovated and fairly dated in comparison to the area. Of course there are renovated apartments that are about $100 more a month and for that price I might as well move to a newer apartment. read more

I would not recommend living here. As soon as my lease is up I will be leaving. The staff is extremely rude especially the blonde lady in the front office who walks around like everyone owes her something. Construction has been going on for the pool for over a week starting in the early hours of the morning. It is extremely loud and residents were given no warning, very inconvenient for those working from home or heaven forbid trying to sleep. read more

When I arrived at the office, it was unlocked but no one was in there so I took a seat and waited. About 10 minutes later, I was greeted by Kristy Peake who wasn't very friendly or very helpful at all. I toured the apartment and would had been sold if it weren't for Kristy's attitude. I mentioned that I preferred all hardwoods because of my allergies and she said "you'd be better if finding you somewhere that has a ground unit with all wood". At this point I was ready to go and had decided this was not the place for me. I do not recommend these apartments based on the negative customer service I received on yesterday. read more

I miss living here. I recently moved to a different city and pay 4 times as much as I paid at Crowne, yet everything at Crowne was better. - Staff: Friendly, helpful, respectful, and go out of their way to assist you if you need something. They also let you know when you have packages at the leasing office, which is so helpful! - Maintenance: Fast, reliable, and friendly. They even played with my dog for a minute or two. Great guys. - Physical Residence: Updated and spacious. My only complaint is that you could hear the people above and next door to you. - Amenities: Dog park and monthly activities for residents are a huge plus. Thank you for caring about your residents. Banks, Denise, Brooke, Kristy, Elise, and maintenance dudes; y'all are awesome. If I ever moved back to an apartment in Birmingham, it would be here. read more

My experience has been extremely pleasant living here. Everyone in the office is very easy and even delightful to interact with! From the ones in the office all day, to the maintenance guys, have all been very friendly and quick to be helpful. I had something wrong with my sink and told the office about it, and they had someone at my apartment hastily to fix the problem. The guy was very respectful and informational so that the problem wouldn't happen again. Which I very much appreciated because I am not very handy! I live on the third floor, so I don't have problems with noise above me, but I also don't ever have any issues with noise across or next to me. I meet a lot of other residents because I have a dog that I walk around the complex, and sometimes visit the play area. Everyone seems to be very friendly. No problems what so ever. Any concerns that I've ever had have been dealt with promptly and with a smile. I would recommend this complex to anyone, not only for the quality of the apartments themselves, but the people that work here. VERY pleased! read more

I am extremely disappointed in the carelessness of this apartment complex. After being in a tragic car accident two years ago, I was left with a prosthetic elbow and a right arm with only 60% movement. Even though I had provided the office with my service animal's vest and qualification card, they STILL did not allow her at the pool area. Because of this, I'm having to break my lease. They not only have no concern for people with disabilities but the public restroom never has toilet paper nor paper towels. My apartment is infested with roaches, pinch bugs, and beatles. They claim to be pet-friendly but you're not allowed to play fetch with your dog because they require a leash at all times. They do not spray for fleas and ticks in the outside areas, which has caused a major outbreak on my support dog. I am moving out at the end of my lease. If you can not support a small service dog, then you not only lose the support of me but also the support of all other dog lovers. They ARE NOT dog- friendly. Do not live here. If you ever want a quiet night of sleep, don't live here. If you ever want to sleep in on a weekend, don't live here. Neighbors fighting, neighbors stomping, and dogs barking are an unavoidable part of living at the Crowne at Grandview. On numerous occasions, I have been woken up at 4am on weekdays and weekends in several different ways. First, there was a neighbor in a separate building who developed a habit of smoking cigarettes and yelling madly on the phone before the sun came up. Second, cars drove around the apartment complex holding down their horns from about 3:30am to 4:00am. Third, on a daily basis I am woken up by my upstairs neighbors. Whether it is from a barking dog or relentless stomping, I can always count on my neighbors to remain as a steady 5am alarm clock. The apartments are just poorly made and the walls are incredibly thin. You can hear toilets flushing, conversations, and every load of laundry. If you value your vehicle and are opposed to the destruction of your property, do not live here. For some reason, the gates entering the apartment are often left open, but the gates to exit will have you setting aside 5 minutes for them to open. But, it is not the people living on the other side of the fence that you need to worry about because they can't get much worse than some of the residents we have here. Having your vehicle vandalized will just become a part of your everyday life if you live here. They say that if you ever have a noise complaint then you can call the security officer. Well, I initially tried this as I was desperately trying to get some sleep. Unfortunately, it was not a security officer, but a women who sounded like she was at a bar. I told her I would like to make a noise complaint and she simply laughed. Then, she told me she wasn't here and couldn't be here for an hour. Ultimately, she never showed up. I've lived here since April of 2016 and I love it. Maintenance is always prompt and professional. Everything is up to date. The management and staff are wonderful! Very surprising at how quiet it is at night! They are always have some cool event or standing at the front gate passing out breakfast on my way out for work. As a young college student, my boyfriend and I came to Crowne with the expectation that we would have a laid back atmosphere while also having the high quality apartment living Crowne seems to offer. However, we have come to realize that Crowne is a much better fit for older folks or even retirees. The community isn't open or inviting and the staff is indifferent to the younger people living here. The priority are the wealthier and older folks. Furthermore, the "safety" gate and other supposed amenities leave much to be desired. Literally entering # and any four digit combo will allow anyone to enter the gate. The pool is littered with beer cans and bottles while if I invite friends over, I can certainly expect the "neighborhood cop" to show up and talk down to us. I know one other college student living here and he has had the same experience. We are fine tenants that always pay rent on time and respect the rules--I think the issue is the much much older couple that lives below us doesn't understand that part of apartment living (at least at Crowne) is that people have to walk around and live in their apartment. In an apartment, you can't be shocked to hear someone turn the shower on or walk around their kitchen above you. The fact that the police have been called and knocked on our door at 3 am while all of us are asleep really just proved that to me. I think the downstairs neighbors hear our upstairs neighbors even when we sleep through it (they have a large dog, so it's to be expected). Overall, I've felt extremely disrespected and can't believe the outrageous price I've paid to feel so /not/ at home. I'm moving out before the lease is up because it's simply not worth random notes and police visits that appear to be completely random. I hope that helps. read more
