I LOVE living here. The prices are fair, the employees are sweet, knowledgeable, and always helpful. Seriously, my ONLY complaint is that the closet space is kind of lacking in my one bedroom apartment (only one walk-in that connects the bedroom and bathroom). The kitchen pantry is also the laundry room which makes things kinda tight and awkward when you habe to store your mac and cheese next to the fabric softener, but I digress... There's a nice swing set gazebo and a super cool dog park just a few feet from my apartment. One of my favorite things to do in the morning when I get home from work is to go to the swings and kinda meditate a little when it's calm and quiet around me. There's a beautiful pool area and clubhouse for events. I also love the kids play area! The grounds are beautiful and maintained very well. All of the residents I've met here have been nice and very respectful. There are a lot of doggos, which I LOVE, and their owners actually clean up after them. I live on the bottom floor and I have had no issues with noise from my upstairs neighbors. The staff does cute things for resident appreciation during every holiday and just randomly throughout the year. They're all so kind and make coming home so welcoming! I also love that they do things to help the community. Toy drives during Christmas, coat and canned food drives, blood drives with the American Red Cross! It makes me happy to know how big their hearts are! One of my favorite parts about living here is the valet trash service! They pick your trash up from your doorstep. How amazing is that?!? They also just added Amazon Hub Lockers next to our mailboxes so that residents can pick up their packages 24/7. Amanda in the office is AMAZING. She really helped me out when I was first searching for a new place and made me feel safe and confident in my choice to live here. She is always available to help and answer any questions I might have. She always has a beautiful smile on her face and hugs me whenever we see each other. She really is a blessing. read more

This is my first apartment living experience and I have never been happier. The staff are warm and welcoming, from management to maintenance. Everyone makes you feel welcome and like family. The other tenants are welcoming and helpful but still manage to give you privacy. The setting is peaceful and beautiful on a gorgeous lake with a dock that has chairs that beckon you to relax any time of day or evening. The dog park is wonderful for you and your four-legged family member(s) and the stations are many. There are two trails for walking that are along the lake. There is a salt water pool and a car war and doggy wash too! read more

We just love living here at Hawthorne At Lake Heather! It's been one year and counting! Not only is the location amazing and close to lots of restaurants and stores it has wonderful amenities! The pool, gym, and dog park are my favorites. The staff is always welcoming and is always there to lend a hand. On time Vickie came to my rescue and rid me of a hornets nest beginning to form on my porch (highly allergic to them). Just a simple call to the office and she came down herself to rid me of the small pest! I was very thankful! The neighbors are all friendly and if you're a dog lover you'll meet plenty of dog moms and dads here. We are really able to make an apartment feel like a home! read more

We will be leaving this place behind ASAP! Whoever is giving this 5 or 4 stars has clearly either had a lucky experience, or they've never stayed in a better place. To be fair, this place started going more down hill after Leah stopped working here back when I first moved here. I heard they fired her for listening in on a private conversation she was having and she said something they didn't like about her boss... which to be honest, was probably true. Anyway, since Leah left, NOBODY gives one single crap about how the residents are feeling. They will only do what they are legally obligated to do, like repair air conditioning when it's very hot outside.. and thank God for that! I've emailed them about filthy neighbors literally leaving opened tampons RIGHT outside our door among other garbage, and they have not responded. Yet, they are quick to do ANYTHING to please or impress potential new residents, and don't get me wrong... I appreciate the exteriors for the most part looking clean (their powerwashing job was a bust though), but I feel sometimes it is overkill. You'll hear LOTS of noise frequently in the early hours of the morning because they really want to impress those viewing the apartments. Also, when they came to paint the doors, it's like they give the apartment keys to just ANYONE! Seriously, we were sleeping when the painters came, but I woke up right when they knocked. They didn't give it 10 seconds before they swung the front door open! What if one of us had been trying to get dressed before coming to the door when this happened?! Not only that, but they were very loud as they did their job. Last thing is that there's also and issue with the garbage cans... we never had a problem when Leah worked here about leaving our cans outside our door. This has been something that's always been done when there is valet trash because who wants to bring in a nasty can that's been sitting outside every night?? Well, when Leah left, we were informed we would have to bring it inside every night or we'd be charged a hefty fee! So my husband told them no, we'd rather not have the valet trash if this is the case because it's not sanitary, we'd have to clean it every night, AND the filthy neighbors put trash in the empty can every day! While sounding annoyed at this, the management said they'd just collect the trash can but never did... so there it is, still collecting trash from our nasty neighbors because we don't use it! I could list more things, but it's already getting really long. I just want to end with this... Leah was the best thing that this community had, and that blonde guy that runs things around here probably shouldn't have fired her and should have been fired by whoever his boss is instead. NOBODY here cares about the current residents, you WILL get roaches because of your neighbors, you WILL be very annoyed with this place and count the days until your lease is up. read more

Loved living here. We lived here for about 10 months from 2013-2014. The apartment itself is beautiful and there is a ton of space. The floor plans are open and welcoming. We lived in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom "Big Bend" setup and it was perfect for 2 people, and probably 4 (if two couples were living there). The people living there are friendly, and the management team is great. Maintenance is superior to all other apartments I have lived in previously. Beware though, you may pay an arm and a leg in power. Our apartment was not well insulated. This ended up being one of two reasons we decided to move. We were paying approximately $200+/month in heating and cooling. It was ridiculous. But please let me clarify. I am very hot-natured, so in the summer time I like to keep the apartment ~69 degrees. With that being said, we experienced an extremely cold winter this year and just keeping the apartment set at 66 degrees still cost us ~$200+/month. The only other reason we moved was because of 280 traffic. If you are used to city traffic, it's probably not going to bother you. I, however, am not. I was driving into Birmingham every day and night during rush hour, and it was taking me around 45 minutes to an hour to get home. Doesn't seem that bad right? Wrong. This apartment is literally about 15 miles to UAB. 45 minutes to go 15 miles raises one's blood pressure. That being said, if you don't mind the traffic, or if you actually have a life (I'm a pre-med student, so I don't) this apartment is for you! This is a great place for business folks who work on 280 or Hwy 31, for newlyweds or a starter family, or for older individuals. When you move though, make sure you discuss insulation with maintenance to see if they can do anything to help out, or prepare to do just a few things yourself. Overall, this was a great place to live. Let me say one more thing to emphasize how wonderful the management team is. This was the year of the "Snowpocalypse" and on that day, both of us got stuck away from home. When we called to ask the property manager to have someone go check on our dog and possibly feed her, the manager herself took care of everything including taking our dog out, fed her, let her run around, and then locked her back up. This was one of the reasons it was VERY hard for me to leave Lake Heather, because nowhere else will you get a property manager to help your dog when you are stuck out in the snow. This is a wonderful team of people, and I was actually sad to go. If you choose to live here, you won't regret it. read more

We lived here for a year in 2006-2007. For basic garden-style apartments, they are pretty nice and in a lovely secluded location. Some of the buildings have lake views. We had a three bedroom, two bath, and it was spacious and comfortable: open kitchen, big windows, nice walk-in closets. The one negative experience we had was that when we moved in, the carpet in our unit was in terrible shape. It was very worn, stained, and even patched in places. There was literally a 1-foot-square patch in the middle of the living room floor. I complained to the rental office and they said, "We didn't promise you new carpet." Well, yes -- but they bill themselves as "luxury apartments," and the state of our carpet was in no way compatible with luxury. I made it clear that I was was going to be a PITA about it, and someone from the management company ended up coming to check it out. She took one look at it and said, "OMG -- this carpet should have been replaced." She seemed really annoyed with the people in the rental office. The next week, they installed new carpet. The whole situation was a hassle for us because it delayed our unpacking for over a week, but ultimately we were happy they addressed the issue. Overall, we enjoyed living there. Dealing with traffic on 280 was a pain at times, but for us living in a nice location was worth the commute. read more

We have lived here for 4 months so far and would recommend it. We live in a 3-bedroom/2-bath unit that was recently updated with hardwood laminate flooring, and a really great kitchen featuring granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. While the rooms aren't huge, there is a good amount of closet storage and it is a comfortable floor plan. We also rent a garage very close to our unit, and that has been a nice plus. The units are in a pretty setting and a great part of Birmingham. The community has nice amenities - saltwater pool, tennis courts and one of my favorite things about living here, the trash valet service. Trash is picked up every weeknight right outside your door. I feel this contributes to the overall clean atmosphere. There is ample parking, and the spaces are normal size. At some other communities we checked out, the spaces seemed so small, and made you feel like getting a lot of door dings would be inevitable. The management staff in the leasing office is very professional and attentive. We have had to make a few maintenance/service requests - one of an urgent nature shortly after moving in and two other minor things since - and all have been quickly addressed and issues were corrected. Maintenance staff even leaves behind a signed report letting residents know exactly what was repaired. If you're looking for a nice apartment community in this area, definitely consider Hawthorne at Lake Heather. read more

This is such a beautiful community! The lake is so calming and the maintenance guys are so nice! The office staff is always friendly when I need to call them for something. The only I had to do was find back roads to avoid 280 traffic, but that didn't take long! It is still really nice being so close to everything. read more
