One of my absolute favorites in all of Coronado. The specials are always delicious and change so often. The mimosas are the best you can find anywhere. They are MASSIVE. You can't find anything like these. They recently started making their own syrups for them. I love the California scramble and my daughter always get the pancake special which changes so often.
Crown Bistro is one of those places you can tell really cares about what they're doing. The service is genuinely warm and attentive without feeling over the top, and the menu clearly has a lot of thought behind it, everything feels intentional and well put together. The food and drinks were all great and Bella was extremely attentive. Definitely a spot worth visiting.
We absolutely love this place! The food is always fresh and delicious, service is super friendly, they always have specials and to top it off they have giant mimosas! We come here at least once a month for brunch. We love the outside seating and ambiance and they do a pretty good job of getting people in and seated. We love the hospitality that we get when we come here. They also have a great variety of coffees. You won't be disappointed coming here for brunch!
Given the location and the ratings I saw I was expecting a lot better from this restaurant. However we didn't have a great experience and the food was not as good as I thought it would be. We were seated outside as the majority of seating is outside. And while the weater the pleasant the flies certainly were not. I don't usually like to eat outside because I don't enjoy flies buzzing around while I am eating. While that is not the fault of the restaurant they didn't ask if we wanted to be seated inside or outside. So we were kind of stuck. The food is not very kid friendly and is aimed more at adults. The kid at our table ordered a Belgian waffle but it was way too big and he didn't end up finishing it. I ordered eggs Benedict and while the eggs were cooked perfectly the hollandaise sauce was so bland. The hash browns that came with were bland too and had zero flavor. My boyfriend ordered basic steak and eggs and he also wasn't impressed with lack of flavor in his food. Coronado has so many fun places to eat. If I ever come back I don't think I'll be returning here.

While getting in my steps and exploring the Coronado neighborhood, I discovered Crown Bistro at 520 Orange Ave. A beautiful and quaint cafe nestled within the Crown City Inn. Cute place located in a small hotel. Great patio seating and prompt service. Eggs Benedict were on point. Hash browns were crispy and tasty. Parking is on the street but wasn't too hard. Lunch starts at 11am and they won't budge on the time. Still great and I would return

I would say overall the meal was good but nothing to write home about. The server was quick but not particularly friendly. I ordered the Denver omelette which is pretty standard from place to place. Not oily which I appreciated. It was a $1 up charge for egg whites which isn't bad compared to other Cali restaurants which charge 2-4 bucks which is crazy. Hash browns were decent, again not oily which I like. I upgraded my side to a single pancake. It was a large portion so that was appreciated but it was visibly burnt when she brought it. I didn't make a stink bc a. I didn't have time to wait for another and b. I knew I wouldn't finish it so I kinda ate around the char but the server should know better than to bring that out. That being said, it was good texture and decent flavor but again nothing to write home about. I did enjoy the homemade jam. Overall, for $30 breakfast... not sure I would be back and everything was good.
Cute bistro with so much charm! They had normal portion sizes (which is hard to find in the US as a whole) and the dishes left us feeling satisfied, but not overly stuffed! Service is quick, super friendly, and the outdoor patio is a sunny dream!
The workers are super nice and the service was quick! The restaurant has a cozy and almost sunset-esque feel to it. The food tastes homemade but made to perfection! Please support this place when you are in the Coronado area!
We spent the night at this hotel and wanted to try the restaurant. It is a charming little place that is currently has dinner service Thursday through Saturday. Theresa and Jorge were our fine dining servers and they were professional and friendly. They started this off with their freshly baked ciabatta bread. We told them to please only bring two pieces. They did and they are very large pieces. We split one and took the other home to enjoy later as it was excellent. It was slightly crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. Next, we had a chicken vegetable soup and French onion soup. We enjoyed both. I ordered the scallops special with risotto and vegetables. Though I would have liked the scallops cooked 30 seconds longer, they were good and melted in your mouth. Don ordered Osso buco with pasta and vegetables. It was excellent and the lamb was tender. It seemed like a lot of locals come here and we can see why. This will be our "go to" place for dinner.
So we've seen this restaurant and the ambience of it is absolutely lovely. However.. I ordered the fettuccine and it was the most saltiest dish I've ever tasted in my whole life and I had only one bite. Had I ate the whole thing which was ridiculously disgusting I would've had a heart attack the same night. My boyfriend had the gnucci with crab and his pasta was so overcooked and hard, you could throw it through a car window and it might break. I tried one of his and I almost threw up. Told the owner about it and she walked away and never came back. It didn't matter because I no longer wanted to eat there and we just walked away. They have good lemons and water and that's all. Will never return. It was like always wanting to meet your favorite celebrity and you find out they are a prick. Yes that's how this experience was.

Small little Bistro located inside a hotel. We sat outside, it was quite hot on a summer day. The fly was a big issue for us because it didn't seem like there was a way to get rid of them. Not the most appetizing way to enjoy our brunch when you have flies flying all over the place. The food and presentation were wonderful. Good variety or choices and portions aren't bad at all. The only downside is the heat and the fly when you are sitting at a 100-degree temp in downtown SD. read more

Great ambiance, they have live music the food was delicious. I had the crab gnocchi that was so delicious the gnocchi was so fluffy. The eggplant appetizer that was good with the fresh bread they make. And the tiramisu was bomb! read more

Great Denver omelette! The mango mimosa was very tasty. The food came out quickly! The restaurant was very busy, but the service was good. The only thing was I asked for a verde salsa on the side it didn't come out, but they were so busy I didn't want to bug (totally my fault for not asking) lol... read more

Best breakfast in Coronado. Absolutely amazing experience. The history of this place is really sweet too. I had the ricotta-strawberry waffle and it was so amazing. The waffle had homemade jam on it as well that the grandmother makes. I also had the corn beef hash and it was great too. Good flavor and everyone there was very nice and friendly. Amazing breakfast, amazing fun drinks! The food tasted just as great as the presentation! We ordered an omelette and the cinnamon apple French toast and it was so delicious. Everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked so good! Big portions my partner and I shared. We also got a classic mimosa and the champagne pop (also friendly portions). Went in on a Tuesday for brunch, the place was hoping but luckily I was a party of two with two dogs and we got right in. 15 minutes later and there was a line out the door waiting to get in. This is my first time here and I can tell you we will return!! They had nice outdoor seating with coverage and nice street views. The staff was friendly and attentive! read more
Everything here is delicious!! All of the omelet are delicious and come with side of toast and great jam. The sweet dishes are all incredible. Every time we come here we get the bananas foster French toast which is a total crown pleaser!! The day we came here they had a fruity pebble waffle for their daily special that was very fun and different. Get a couple sweet and a couple savory dishes and you won't leave sad. Perfect ambiance at outdoor seating and great service. Enjoy a beautiful morning on the island. read more

Quaint adorable little breakfast spot in Coronado, blocks away from the Ferry landing. Found this place on yelp and happy to report that it was a delight. Very friendly staff, accommodating, quick service and delicious food. We order the crown special, avocado toast and fruit pebbles waffles. Everything was fresh and yummy! My favorite though was the Fruity Pebble Waffle!! Definitely give this place a try if you're in the area. read more

I really want to give Crown Bistro 3.5 stars, as the food we got was very good, but since I can't do that I think they drop closer to 3 in my book. Wish I could vote higher, definitely went in expecting to give them all 5. The patio is super cute, but only has 4-5 ish tables. We didn't even go inside bc the weather was beautiful, and as we were on vacation, we wanted to soak in that California ocean air. That being said, the patio furniture is a bit dated, not terribly comfortable, and this was the only place I got mosquito (presumably?) bites all weekend. Not terribly off putting, and probably something I would have looked over if more of my visit went well. The menu had some good looking options (ie: crab benedict, assorted French toasts) but was honestly a little underwhelming. Not sure how to explain it but I thought I'd be more wowed. I ended up going with the crab benedict which was really good - fresh, crumbly crab chunks (not fried crab cake), with a great medium poached egg and hollandaise. I personally thought it was missing some field greens though, or something to freshen it up. My husband ordered the crab omelette. He enjoyed it, and the crab was great but I didn't think much of the omelette itself. Sides are alright - same run of the mill hashbrowns and fruit, or in this case, watermelon, that you'd get at any other breakfast joint. Saw someone else get the peach French toast which looked amazing. I probably should have gotten that - it looked fruity and refreshing. read more

This place had a long line waiting to get sat when we drove by before our workout class on the island. We decided to stop by after our class for some food and mimosas. The wait was 45min to 1 hour for a table. The flight unfortunately is was made with syrups and not fresh juices. They were extremely sweet and consisted of luke warm champagne. The second glass of champagne by itself was like warm as well. The cold pressed orange juice tasted like Tropicana, definitely not fresh. The food was delivered in a staggered manner with 8 minutes between. Therefore my plate was cold by the time my wife's had arrived . I had to flag down a server to get syrup for my pancake as it was not marked with it prior to the foods arrival. Originally, I was a little sad that they did not offer lunch on the weekends as it was 12:30 P.M. by the time it was time to order our food. My wife got the crab Benedict, and I got the bistro special. All of the food was mediocre and arrived like warm, hash browns not crispy like we requested. Definitely would not recommend read more

We were looking for a tasty meal before heading home after a weeklong trip and got lucky when we chose Crown Bistro. It was late in the evening, but Jorge was phenomenal! He listed the specials and we promptly put down the fabulous menu (which was filled with so many tempting dishes) to debate the options he presented. We also chose to sample two red wines and due to our indecisiveness, asked Jorge his opinion of our top contenders. We ended up with a Shiraz and Pinot Noir and with Jorge's recommendation, selected the braised short rib with a port wine reduction and Alaskan crab stuffed salmon with a creamy Pistou. We're "sharers" so everything was explored and enjoyed thoroughly. But... that Pistou...so yummy!! Although we broke the fish/red wine rule, the Pinot did compliment the salmon and Jorge' cheerfully supported our choices. Not only was the meal and service excellent, the price was more than reasonable. We've eaten our way from San Francisco to San Diego over the past five days and this was the perfect ending! read more
A wonderful little spot in Coronado. I met some friends here for Sunday brunch. There's was about 30 min wait which is to be expected on a Sunday (they do not take reservations). We had a lovely waiter who was attentive and made great menu recommendations. The food... was so delicious. Especially the French toast! Everything was fresh and full of flavor. Stopped by after our workout, looked busy so we thought it would be a good place to stop by and have a nice brunch. I'm a big fan of mimosas and tried a variety all over. This place is cute, but if you are looking for quality and good service, might want to go somewhere else. We had the mimosa flight that was warm and tasted like syrup. Then order a glass of bubbly and a cup of oj to make my own and the sparkling wine was room temperature and oj was store bought quality. Then it took 8 minutes between our meals to come out, even the table next to us who had both ordered French toast. Why make one person wait for the others meal, while it's getting cold. I understand being understaffed but work on one ticket at a time at least. Overall long wait for terrible food and drinks. Save time and money and go somewhere else at least until they can get better . read more

You've got to stop here for breakfast if you're on the island. It's not that you should, you've got to. Our family comes here every time we come to Coronado. The food is incredible and the restaurant has a cool, Californian feel that makes you feel right at home. We actually rode bikes over here from our hotel and it made for a perfect morning! The food here is incredible. Several of our group commented that their order was the best ___ they ever had. Two of the biggest standouts were the bananas foster French toast and the goat cheese omelet. The French toast is fluffy and sweet and topped with a generous scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream. The omelet is cooked to perfection and has such a fun, unique twist. Both were killer! We made a reservation before coming and sat at their big outdoor table. Even though we were there in January it was warm and comfortable outside under the palm trees. It really made us feel like we were on Coronado, and trust me that's a good thing. The San Diego Tribune called @crown.bistro the best kept secret in SD and I 100% agree! The Very Berry French Toast was easily one of my favorite breakfast meals I've ever had, too bad my son almost fought me over every bite. We also ordered the Bananas Foster French Toast which is also very popular and delicious as well as the Crab Benedict that was perfectly done. For over 25 years this family owned hidden gem has been putting out some amazing breakfast and dinners on Coronado Island. A big part to their consistency and amazing flavors has been their dad and part owner Chef Jerry! He has been there every day since their grand opening over 25 years ago and does amazing work. I feel like Crown Bistro is sooo good you only really tell your best friends, and no one else so it's not crowded. The owners Laura, Jerry and their daughters Bella and Sofia are so friendly and warming. They definitely give Crown Bistro its comforting vibe that keeps so many locals coming back. Don't be fooled by the 3 stars, the food here is absolutely delicious. My best friend and I both had the crab cake eggs Benedict with hash browns and split the lemon ricotta pancakes. Both of which were absolutely delicious. Our personal experience was only hindered by the fact our ticket was lost during a very busy brunch hour and we ended up waiting around an hour to receive our food, and didn't know what had happened for a good 30 minutes before we were notified. But the restaurant is absolutely adorable and has some delicious French cuisine. C'est delicieux! Merci beaucoup! read more

Place was pretty good, nothing great. We stopped here for brunch and the food was adequate, kinda pricey, but it's Coronado so that's to be expected. Service was pretty good and the wait wasn't too bad. Good not great. read more
