Hello, My sisters and I just came to this place about 20 minutes to have a nice, Mother's Day brunch. We were immediately turned away at approximately 12:20pm and was told that they are closing early and simply walked off. We were appalled by this because there were other people waiting and they didn't close until 1pm. We got in the car only to drive around and see two more parties in line waiting to be seated. I believe and feel that we were turned away because we were 3 women of color. I would never eat here and if you are looking for a place to eat brunch and you are not white, I would choose a different restaurant. I'm so glad that I go high when they go low. read more

And to top it off, the onion soup was pretty mediocre . Came by for a late lunch on a weekday. Plan on parking on the street due to their very small parking lot. There were flies when sitting outside under the canopy, but they have a tabletop windmill that spins to keep them away from your food. We were looking for a tasty meal before heading home after a weeklong trip and got lucky when we chose Crown Bistro. It was late in the evening, but Jorge was phenomenal! He listed the specials and we promptly put down the fabulous menu (which was filled with so many tempting dishes) to debate the options he presented. We also chose to sample two red wines and due to our indecisiveness, asked Jorge his opinion of our top contenders. We ended up with a Shiraz and Pinot Noir and with Jorge's recommendation, selected the braised short rib with a port wine reduction and Alaskan crab stuffed salmon with a creamy Pistou. We're "sharers" so everything was explored and enjoyed thoroughly. But... that Pistou...so yummy!! Although we broke the fish/red wine rule, the Pinot did compliment the salmon and Jorge' cheerfully supported our choices. Not only was the meal and service excellent, the price was more than reasonable. Everything here is delicious!! All of the omelet are delicious and come with side of toast and great jam. The sweet dishes are all incredible. Every time we come here we get the bananas foster French toast which is a total crown pleaser!! The day we came here they had a fruity pebble waffle for their daily special that was very fun and different. Get a couple sweet and a couple savory dishes and you won't leave sad. Amazing breakfast, amazing fun drinks! The food tasted just as great as the presentation! We ordered an omelette and the cinnamon apple French toast and it was so delicious. Everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked so good! Big portions my partner and I shared. We also got a classic mimosa and the champagne pop (also friendly portions). Went in on a Tuesday for brunch, the place was hoping but luckily I was a party of two with two dogs and we got right in. 15 minutes later and there was a line out the door waiting to get in. I really want to give Crown Bistro 3.5 stars, as the food we got was very good, but since I can't do that I think they drop closer to 3 in my book. Wish I could vote higher, definitely went in expecting to give them all 5. The patio is super cute, but only has 4-5 ish tables. We didn't even go inside bc the weather was beautiful, and as we were on vacation, we wanted to soak in that California ocean air. That being said, the patio furniture is a bit dated, not terribly comfortable, and this was the only place I got mosquito (presumably?) bites all weekend. Not terribly off putting, and probably something I would have looked over if more of my visit went well. The menu had some good looking options (ie: crab benedict, assorted French toasts) but was honestly a little underwhelming. Not sure how to explain it but I thought I'd be more wowed. I ended up going with the crab benedict which was really good - fresh, crumbly crab chunks (not fried crab cake), with a great medium poached egg and hollandaise. I personally thought it was missing some field greens though, or something to freshen it up. My husband ordered the crab omelette. He enjoyed it, and the crab was great but I didn't think much of the omelette itself. Sides are alright - same run of the mill hashbrowns and fruit, or in this case, watermelon, that you'd get at any other breakfast joint. Saw someone else get the peach French toast which looked amazing. I probably should have gotten that - it looked fruity and refreshing. read more

This place had a long line waiting to get sat when we drove by before our workout class on the island. We decided to stop by after our class for some food and mimosas. The wait was 45min to 1 hour for a table. The flight unfortunately is was made with syrups and not fresh juices. They were extremely sweet and consisted of luke warm champagne. The second glass of champagne by itself was like warm as well. The cold pressed orange juice tasted like Tropicana, definitely not fresh. The food was delivered in a staggered manner with 8 minutes between. Therefore my plate was cold by the time my wife's had arrived . I had to flag down a server to get syrup for my pancake as it was not marked with it prior to the foods arrival. Originally, I was a little sad that they did not offer lunch on the weekends as it was 12:30 P.M. by the time it was time to order our food. Had an early lunch here with my son around 11:30am on a Tuesday. I had the chicken salad sand and he had the burger. The service was good and the food was good as well. We were seated in the inner patio area. There were a lot of flies but it was a hot day. I guess they could spray more after hours (permethrin is great if you're reading this). One bummer was that I left my card in the cover after paying and they don't answer the phone, or return calls so It's impossible to get a hold of anyone there. Anyway, if they got rid of the flies and answered the phone they would really be great. Will try them again to get my card back. Becoming a regular is still a question. read more

A wonderful little spot in Coronado. I met some friends here for Sunday brunch. There's was about 30 min wait which is to be expected on a Sunday (they do not take reservations). We had a lovely waiter who was attentive and made great menu recommendations. The food... was so delicious. Especially the French toast! Everything was fresh and full of flavor. Then order a glass of bubbly and a cup of oj to make my own and the sparkling wine was room temperature and oj was store bought quality. Then it took 8 minutes between our meals to come out, even the table next to us who had both ordered French toast. Why make one person wait for the others meal, while it's getting cold. I understand being understaffed but work on one ticket at a time at least. Overall long wait for terrible food and drinks. You've got to stop here for breakfast if you're on the island. It's not that you should, you've got to. Our family comes here every time we come to Coronado. The food is incredible and the restaurant has a cool, Californian feel that makes you feel right at home. We actually rode bikes over here from our hotel and it made for a perfect morning! The food here is incredible. Several of our group commented that their order was the best ___ they ever had. Two of the biggest standouts were the bananas foster French toast and the goat cheese omelet. The French toast is fluffy and sweet and topped with a generous scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream. The omelet is cooked to perfection and has such a fun, unique twist. Both were killer! We made a reservation before coming and sat at their big outdoor table. Even though we were there in January it was warm and comfortable outside under the palm trees. It really made us feel like we were on Coronado, and trust me that's a good thing. The Very Berry French Toast was easily one of my favorite breakfast meals I've ever had, too bad my son almost fought me over every bite. We also ordered the Bananas Foster French Toast which is also very popular and delicious as well as the Crab Benedict that was perfectly done. For over 25 years this family owned hidden gem has been putting out some amazing breakfast and dinners on Coronado Island. A big part to their consistency and amazing flavors has been their dad and part owner Chef Jerry! He has been there every day since their grand opening over 25 years ago and does amazing work. I feel like Crown Bistro is sooo good you only really tell your best friends, and no one else so it's not crowded. Not a review on the food, which was good, but on reservation policy. Called the day before to make a reservation and was told they didn't take them. Day of, got there to put my name on their list. Told 20 minutes. Then we waited. A table was cleared and seeing we were the only people waiting (and next on list), it would be ours. The host told us that a table would be available inside soon (and how much better it will be inside - not) so sensibly we asked about the table in front of us. "That's reserved". Of course we asked and were told that people can call the day of and if there is a wait list, they could put their name on it. Huh? I can understand this for hotel guests (that wasn't mentioned) but why would customers in the ether get precedent over customers right in front of you. Don't be fooled by the 3 stars, the food here is absolutely delicious. My best friend and I both had the crab cake eggs Benedict with hash browns and split the lemon ricotta pancakes. Both of which were absolutely delicious. Our personal experience was only hindered by the fact our ticket was lost during a very busy brunch hour and we ended up waiting around an hour to receive our food, and didn't know what had happened for a good 30 minutes before we were notified. Ok, I just have to come on here and say how incredible our experience was this evening. We're locals and live just a few houses down the street and have been waiting for the Crown to open back up for evening dinner. We made reservations a couple days ago and arrived just after our reservation time, we were promptly seated, and given menus. While, we had originally booked dinner reservations to catch up and share life with our neighbors, We actually found out that it was one of our neighbors 71st birthday! Throughout the evening, I kept on thinking I need to tell the server it's his birthday. We ordered food which had a great selection, and each one of us loved our meal and cleared our plates! Since someone in the group always has leftovers, for none of us to have food to take home, we knew it must've been delicious food! We were offered dessert and got a tiramisu, which was equally as good and then after chatting for a bit we were given the check. It then struck me, I never said it was his birthday!! I told our server, Laura, "oh no, I forgot to tell you we're celebrating his 71st birthday". She looked at me and said oh! It's his birthday! OK and then promptly left. Our table got talking again, but could sense that she was hustling and bustling trying to get something together. I mind you we had already received the check at this point. She then came over with a bowl of ice cream, topped with whip cream and fruity pebbles to make it look like a birthday cake and lit candle to sing happy birthday, the best part of it was she also brought over a birthday party hat and noisemaker!!! I was flabbergasted by the personal touch, and it truly truly made our evening so much better!!!!! Thank you so much to Laura and the rest of the staff who truly created a lifelong memory. What a nice surprise! We were in Coronado checking on our home renovation and happened upon this place for dinner. Jorge was our waiter and recommended the Filet mignon over pasta. It was absolutely delicious paired with a Brady Paseo Robles Cabernet Sauvignon. We also had a very delicious creme brûlée and brownie sundae paired with house Champaign. Jorge was our server and he was exceptional! Each time we have come to the island we have walked by this place in the mornings and there is always a line out the door for breakfast. Our next visit will be to try the Sunday brunch! Mimosas and eggs Benedict! We recommend trying this place for dinner.
