We love to eat breakfast here and have for the past 28 years we have lived in Pahrump, Nevada, just 27 miles away. Our favorite is the California Omelet with Jake's homemade salsa and sour cream and avocados. Recently, they have completely modernized and upgraded the restrooms, which was much appreciated! The trip wouldn't be complete without buying lotto tickets across the Highway at the store and buying some China Date Ranch cookies or bread. We did note the the price for the omelette has gone up considerably, but what hasn't in today's world!? read more

Oook, "Eek! Methinks not" may be an over statement, but this place is somewhere between that and "Meh. I've experienced better." Shane and I went here based on some reviews on Trip Advisor. The place is cute and clean. We were there during Christmas vacation, and they had the place pleasantly decorated. It had a small town feel, but I think that's pretty easy with a population of 100. OK, they're authentic. What isn't authentic? The stuff they use to cook their food. Because I worked in a crappy Cafe, I know the taste of something that is not cooked in real oil or butter. This place must be using that gross fake butter crap which mostly consists of hydrogenated fats and other horrible scary stuff. It kind of resembles the buttered popcorn at movie theater taste sensation, which is not something you want first thing in the morning on your eggs AND smothered on your toast. (yuck) Also, we got there at around 11:00am, and they said that we could either have breakfast or lunch, but not both. Don't get me wrong, the people working there were really very nice, but NICE doesn't make me want to go back there again. ever. In fact, after going here, I've decided to give up on going to Cafes during road trips unless all reviews I see of the place are completely exceptional! That's pretty sad. read more

I would have liked to be praising the food like the other posts here...but I didn't have the opportunity. I walked in today, a Monday around lunch time and the server didn't acknowledge my presence. I figured she was busy so I went and sat down...still nothing. A local couple walked in and were immediately acknowledged and seated. Maybe a bad day, but I'll be passing through next time I come by town. read more

Diamond in the rough the food was great, the price was fair. Can't ask for much more on a lonely desert highway 8:30 pm on a Sunday.

This is a super cool place run by super nice people. The food is fantastic home cooking / diner fare. I had the taco salad and loved it. My wife had a sandwich and also was very happy. Great place to stop going into or leaving southside of Desert Valley. Highly recommended!! read more

The food was great. Exactly what we needed. The atmosphere is real. Authentic. JoLee is waitress of the year. She's the best. Of the few eating choices, this is definitely the one to pick read more

what a great find. very friendly staff she gave us maos and told us all abt the turn. delicious food. had breakfast

One of my favorite places to bring people. I often visit the hot springs in the nearby town of Tecopa and usually bring my friends to the Crowbar for a good snack or meal. For me the food and service have been pretty consistent and very good. The one thing that I highly recommend is the Tortillas with Salsa appetizer ($5.99). This house made creation is something I've never experienced anywhere else. Each chip is HUGE (about 1/5 the size of a tortilla. The outside part of the chip is crispy and is softer and warm as you work your way to the center of it. I prefer my Tortilla chips to be served "Nacho" style everywhere else, but these chips are masterpieces on their own and loading 'em up with cheese and sour cream would only take away from the remarkable flavor of the chips. I usually order a Reuben or Patty Melt (currently @ $9.99 including fries). Always good and flavorful. My friend ordered the Prime Rib the other day ($24) and it looked real good to me... and there was enough to make two meals out of it. With a small museum next door and antique buildings and artifacts surrounding the property it makes for a fun place to stop at. The coolest thing is something I just found out about a month ago... after coming here consistently for the past 2 years or so... there's an UNDERGROUND GHOST TOWN directly across the street! Dublin Gulch was created in the 1920's and remnants of the buildings still remain in good condition... so if you need to walk off the meal that you just had at the Crowbar it's a good place to do it! read more

Food was great, we both had the Patty Melts and loved them They are a little expensive but the only game in town!!

We drove out to Shoshone to buy Lotto tickets and stopped at the Crowbar for lunch. We order the best cheeseburger I know I've had in years! So worth the drive. read more

Great chef salad and attentive bar. The story of Death Valley Slim is a good conversation piece.

We stopped across the street for gas on our way from Tecopa to Death Valley. We saw this place and it sort of called our name. The decor definitely has that old vibe (not in a bad way, by any means). The girl who seated and took care of us was so, so sweet and provided good service! There were a few ladies asking lots of travel related questions that would have driven me mad and tested my temper, but she stayed friendly and it really seemed like she wanted to help them out! The cook brought our food out and was also very attentive. Overall, it was a good burger and fries at an average price for a sit down meal! If you're in the area, you can't go wrong with this one! read more

This place is fun to visit. Food is good and reasonably priced. No problem parking. Noting fancy but nice.

This review is about the waitress JENNIFER! I was really looking forward to eating here. On our way back from Pahrump we stopped off to get some breakfast. When we walked in we were not greeted so I looked around and saw a waitress in the other room. I asked her where should we sit? She did not look happy at all to be at work, she said sit anywhere (with a attitude) We sat down and was given menues. She came to our table to take our drink order, when she returned with our drinks we asked for straws. She rudely stated... this is California and you have to ask for straws. How did she know we weren't from CA and really what difference does it make... give me a straw please. She then took our food order, she was also upset that my husband didn't want green peppers on his omelette. She said, that is special, not to sure if we can do that. WHAT? She then proceeded to go behind the counter and talk about us openly to the cook and the other waitress that was working. Let me tell you this place is small and the whole restaurant can hear her talk about us including us. We felt very uncomfortable and very offended by her actions and now she is talking about us in a rude way! We got up and left. I found out that the office across the street was the management office for the Crowbar. I proceeded to go in there and tell them what happened. Got no where.... the lady in the office didn't know how to handle the situation at all. They really don't care about your experience because most people that come in there is a one time deal but I will never return again. I will let my friends and family know not to go there either. read more

Located at the ends of Death Valley. We came here in the mid day on a very sunny day. The ice water cooled us down. In addition, the decoration of the restaurant was historical and hip. The restaurant was almost a hundred years old and next door to the restaurant there was a small museum hosting a collection of the town's history. Interesting visit! read more

Great little spot. Mom and pop style operation with small pub feel but better food. Staff is super friendly.

Great, friendly place, good food, great bar. Pray you get in before the big swarm of bikers, as the kitchen is small. The young waitress who helped us each morning was amazing -- I assume they know she's a keeper. read more

Great food, great service and beautiful area!! Had the chef salad (delicious) and a local beer. Bartender Ariel was a sweetheart and excels at customer service (so nice to see that nowadays). Definitely recommend stopping! read more

So happy this place is here. It's perfect. The quintessential roadside cafe, with great burgers. The air-con is cranking, the atmosphere is awesome. We stayed up the road for a few days, and came in a few times to eat. All the staff was just excellent, friendly, efficient and so nice! We loved this place. I highly recommend. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed this place.the small area it's is in was charming. Even though this looks like a hole in the wall the burgers we ordered were really good !!!! The fries are like home made and great. We were really impressed bc we were not expected much but it was a real treat!! read more

the people are great the place is great it's all really fun. Had a veggie burrito that was so big I ordered it split with half to go. I still couldn't finish the half order & it was really good. Came with rice & beans salsa & sour cream.Im telling you if ever get near Shoshone or even Pahrump Nv.or maybe Death Valley you gotta go to this wonderful little place ! It's like finding gold in the desert read more

Two bars of service was the best part. Do not eat the Nachoes or quesadilla. Service was lacking also.

Have no idea about the food since we never received water, menu, any kind of acknowledgment whatsoever. Zip. Nada. One server saw us and ignored us. Other one bused a table immediately behind us and said nothing. It became a game between the two of us as to what would happen and how long it would be. We gave up. Went home and ate. Should have picked up on the earlier cue when a customer went to the counter, asked for a napkin and both servers laughed at her when she left. Jeez. read more

Since the 1920's, a nice stop on the highway between Baker and Death Valley. We were staying at a friend's place thirty miles away in Pahrump, Nevada and made the easy drive to this delightful rustic cafe. On weekends expect to the see the Poser Parades of midlife crisis Harley owner groups pass by and some foreign tourists including the nice French folks we met at the next outdoor table. The service was very good, the lunch menu well executed with our burgers and fries perfectly cooked. Quite happy with the place and am looking forward to returning on the next drive. TIP: There is a Chevron gas station (not inexpensive) across the highway if you are low on fuel, just in case you forgot to tank up in Baker or Pahrump.. read more

The Crowbar Cafe is one of the only food places for a really long way, and it was amazing! Inside is pumping with AC, which was a nice break from the baking heat of Death Valley. The food options are wonderful, and the cheeseburger was the best cheeseburger i've had in a really long time. The staff is so friendly, and we got to know our waiter very well. You can see inside the kitchen with the chef cooking up a storm, and you can tell that the food is fresh. The fries? To die for. The overall vibe was so welcoming and calm, and its a great spot to stop in to cool down and chow down. read more

Friendly staff... Stopped in to have a few drinks and decided to order wings and fries. Both were very good and fair priced. Next time I plan on trying their breakfast read more

This is a margarita oasis! Stopped here in the afternoon for lunch at bar and drinks - entertaining staff, impeccable service, and seriously great food - veggie burger with avocado and enchiladas - awesome! Hearty American cafe, dinner and breakfast place in the middle of abso-lutely nowhere( I am biased, living in my own pop. 35million town) . With no competition for say 50miles around I think they do a pretty good job on breakfast and dinner - haven't seen lunch. Only blemish worthy of notice is the chili soup which tasted right out of some can. Low key music, historical b&w pictures and forgone Am. West past atmosphere. Go Crow Bar. read more

We have eaten here twice and both times the food was good and friendly. Last night we had Rainbow Trout that was good. Grilled Veggies and baked potato. Great place on your way to Death Valley in Shoshone. Opened 8 AM-9:30PM read more

The service is friendly and the food is good. What more can you ask for? The wait staff were really nice and offered suggestions for whats popular and directions to local, area attractions. I was particularly impressed by the fries. Very good, actually from fresh potatoes. What a concept! There is no wifi or cell service (T-mobile) so be ready to take a throwback to times where technology didn't rule our personalities. I didn't give it five stars because the bathrooms look like a crime scene, the wait staff although friendly looked a little overwhelmed with more than five people in the restaurant. I'll definitely go back to the Crowbar, not just because it's the only restaurant in town, but because the fries were THAT good! read more

Great place to eat, Food is good, location is wonderful and scenery is entertaining. Euro tourist's, Bikers, kind of Bikers, Jeepers, Hippies, Adventures, Miners and Overlanders parade in and out. Food some times takes a few to make it out to your table, but it defines the don't rush it, feel of Death Valley. I like it............ read more

I think this is the only 1-star review I've ever given. Maybe the 2nd. Okay, so this is the only place to eat for miles around. We actually made a day trip here from Boulder City, NV. We were looking forward to a hot meal. We ordered pretty promptly and then waited 20-30 minutes. Looked around and realized none of the other patrons in the restaurant had been served either. And they had all been there before us. There were two cooks in the kitchen and who knows what they were doing because no food was coming out. The waitress told us, "your order will be right out." Ten minutes later, we were still waiting, so we walked out. It was like the Twilight Zone. We also couldn't find one of those signs from the health department that rate the establishment as A, B, etc. Prices on the menu - high. $10.95 for a cheeseburger with fries. read more

Good cafe located next to old time service station (now tourist office). Large portions, quick and friendly service. Prices only a little higher because of food transportation from distant Las Vegas. WiFi too. Good little town to explore. Pass on Tecopa a few miles down the road. read more

We arrived about 1:30 PM The cafe was not crowded. They must have a new cook since Chriss L. was here. Service was non-existent. We ordered a turkey on sour dough bread and a cheese enchilada. the bread was slightly stale and the turkey was as dry as a bone. The enchilada was lukewarm.Thankfully, the beer was cold. The delivery of these two items took in excess of 45 minutes. After about twenty minutes another couple entered and were advised about a 40 minute wait for food (we were not advised about this or we would have stuck with the beer). If you're tempted to stop here, take a 20 mile detour to Pahrump, NV, you will find quite a few places in and around the casinos there. read more

The fries are great! Everything else was pretty bad. Chicken sandwich was super dry, BLT had a lot of L, a hard T, and barely any B. The service here is the worst I have experienced in a long time. We just left there and I couldn't wait to have cell service so I could leave a review. The waitress never told us her name. She was blonde and had a bandage in her arm and a scowl on her face. She didn't even greet us on the way in. We're friendly people. We smile and say hello and we treat people with respect. You would think that being in a hospitality role this woman would have at least made an attempt to be even the slightest bit friendly. I thought maybe she was just globally grumpy, but one couple came in and she turned into a different person. She was smiling and laughing and then she turned around and treated me like I had killed her family. It was bizarre. The place is clean enough. Bathrooms are outside...not exactly porta-potties, but not well cared for and kind of smelly. Their WiFi doesn't work. Everything was slow. Our "quick lunch" took almost two hours. I left a ten percent tip when I usually leave 20-25 percent. I should have left nothing. read more

I love this place and have been going for years... The food is great and the fries are to die for(homemade). The prices are very reasonable, especially being out in the middle of nowhere.. Great place to eat and hang out watching Europeans smoke outside on their way to Death Valley. The nachos are amazing. Cheeseburger was ok, but the nachos, did I mention they were very good. And beer was super cold and the service really nice. So to conclude. I like this place. read more
