Amazing restaurant in the tiny town of Tecopa, CA near Death Valley (lot of hot springs here). It is the middle of nowhere, no real services, no cell service, yet there is this Amazing restaurant. Steaks and Beer does not look or sound like a fine dining restaurant, but it is (it's pricey like one, though). Excellent food, craft beers, and wines (the wine was not pricey). Even though "steak" is in the name and what they specialize in, there is enough creative vegetarian fare to keep the vegetarians happy (not vegans though). When I asked Eric (Erik?) the chef/owner what possessed him to open such a restaurant in such a place, his reply was "It's where poor people go to open a restaurant." Honestly, for a talented chef, it is the most brilliant concept ever. The place has tables for 16 and 3 at the bar, they are open for only 2 hours a day, 5 days a week, and they were full. It takes just two people to run it, the chef and a single waiter. What a find!!!

One of the best meals I've had in 10 years. Food is of amazing quality, got the five course meal, cheese plate was incredible, delicious salad, amazing potato soup, ordered the ribeye medium rare, and it was perfect along with the mashed potatoes and root vegetables, delicious dessert as well. The place is rustic, but I thought it added to the appeal. Definitely check it out!

Definitive "hidden-gem". Chill/apathetic vibes/thrift store decor meets surprisingly upscale menu. Tiny place in the middle of nowhere. They didn't open until 6pm on a Saturday. When we walked in, all tables had "reserved" signs on them but we were invited to eat at their small bar. At first I was skeptical but the menu offerings looked freaking amazing. Two of us ordered the grass fed burger ($22), one ordered the filet ($45) one ordered potato leek soup (meh), and we had the cauliflower arugula appetizer to start. Appetizer let us know the chef wasn't effing around. Burger was served with a lovely salad topped with fresh berries and a vinaigrette (instead of the typical fries). Steak was at least 2" thick. This was the best burger I've ever had at a restaurant. And my friend who ordered the steak said it was the best steak he's ever had. The dessert offerings were made in-house but we were too stuffed to partake. The chef is the owner. It was interesting that he took our order rather than the server/bartender but service was great. The restroom around the back barely functions lmao, but you know, out here, any toilet will do. If you're coming from CA on the 15, check road conditions before your trip. Our exit (Kelbaker) was closed and the next exit wasn't for 13 miles. There was no warning, nor detour signs beforehand. Big waste of time and gas thanks to Caltrans or some other agency.

Thank god there is a small restaurant here, cause other businesses are closed. The old 50s feel ambience, small but able to seat 4-5 per table. The menu isn't a lot but they have enough of a selection you'll be full. Recommend the cauliflower, the burger and the Salisbury steak. Local beers also available! Great service :)

Highly recommended for dinner. Also highly recommended to call for reservations. I saw several people turned away due to lack of space; the restaurant is not large and I felt lucky to have a seat at the bar. I ordered the Filet Mignon, which was cooked perfectly to the medium rare I requested. Sides included fantastic mashed potatoes and vegetables. I added dessert: a gigantic slice of cheesecake topped with a sublime berry/lavender sauce. Absolutely rich, decadent and delicious. Chef seems to be one of the hardest working chefs around. Judging from the conversation I overheard at the bar, he is head chef, sous chef, manager, shopper, server and host. And somehow out in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, he creates sublime dishes that will blow you away. The folks at the bar next to me said they drove in from Las Vegas for dinner at Steaks and Beer. Well worth it, believe me. Speaking of beer, I myself did not indulge but the selection looks great. I can't wait to come back! Thank you, Chef!

AGAIN ALWAYS TOP KNOTCH! Eric and Rule are The Best Duo!!! If your in Tecopa or driving through call and see if you can get reservations at this place. He has 2 different time slots for seating, cause it's a small establishment like 5-6 tables, and a bar top. Exceptional service and Food Everytime. I always ordered the salisbury steak but this time I got the 6 ounce filet mignon and it was outstanding cooked to perfect perfection, medium rare. Never disappointed, it's 1 hour and 30 mins drive from Vegas. They Open at 6pm I believe call to make reservations before.

Who knew in the middle of the desert oasis that is Tecopa, if you know you know, there's one of the best meals of your life. Steak & Beer serves just that, Steaks & Beers. My friends and I went and ordered the whole enchilada before soaking in the mud. We started with the soup du jour which on this day was a potato truffle and boy was it dank. This alone was worth the 90 minute drive out of town. Second course was the warm arugula & cauliflower salad which is served with a delicious apple butter. This was some voodoo magic. When I heard apple butter, arugula and cauliflower in the same sentence, I was like ew; holy bananas was I wrong! Order it. Trust me. Next up was the filet, which we ordered medium. Cooked to perfection. Served with a beautiful truffled balsamic reduction, mixed veggies and dreamy creamy mashed. Hands down, one of the best meals of my life. To round of off, we got a warm date cake topped with ice cream and date syrup. Steak & Beer, more like DANK & CHEER. 10/10 open September through May. Do yourself and favor and eat here; then soak and sweat it out in the mud.

My salad, so good, everything was so fresh, not sure what the dressing was but it was excellent.

Heard about this restaurants from friends, so when we made a visit to Death Valley and stayed in Tecopa we made a reservation for 7pm and was excited about our dinner. We showed up just before 7 pm & was asked if we have reservation, since they only have 6 tables you need one, we were showed to our table for 4, at first we did notice it was on the hot side in the room, it's a small room so with about 20 people inside, it was sort of stuffy, AC would be nice, but we ordered drinks ($8 for a glass of wine, which was a great pour! so worth it) We ordered the $110 prix fix dinner for 2 which included: a Cheese Board for 2 (sorry no pics, we were so excited we just started eating it) but it was wonderful with apples, blueberries with an apple butter and honey sauce, 3 different cheeses and bread. Next came a salad for each person, so fresh and a wonderful dressing, on to the soup but they ran out (we were the last seating of the day) so they served us a pasta dish..now I am not sure who got the better deal, the soup people or the pasta people BUT I will tell you it was the best pasta I have had in a long time! Next came the steak, for the prix fix you get one steak with mashed potatoes and veggies for 2, which after everything I just ate was fine! the steak was cooked perfect!! there was a sauce on it (not sure what it was) but it was excellent! Potatoes and veggies again were great. We finished with the Chefs choice for dessert, which was a Date Bread (from China Ranch) with a wonderful cherry sauce and vanilla ice cream, I shouldn't have eaten it but it was so, so good you just had to finish it! Even though the kitchen was very busy, Chef Eric found time to come out to each table and make sure everything was okay!, the person helping him (sorry we didn't get your name) was excellent and always there if you needed something. We will go back to Tecopa just to eat Steak and Beer and if you are in the area make sure you go!! But from what we hear they are closed from May to October because of the heat out there, so make your plans wisely.

Eric the owner and chef extraordinaire grilled our amazing steaks! He has a nice, rustic establishment not to big not to small with an outside patio and I guess sometimes he has music from a live band...it had rained so no music. The steaks the ribeye, the filet mignon were delicious, sides were a veggie medley and potatoes...just outstanding. We most likely will never be back in this area...but go if you are and book a reservation! Thanks Eric for bringing your amazing talent to Shoshone!

This place has amazing food! Small menu so it makes it easy to pick what to eat and everything is so good. Had filet mignon, cauliflower appetizer, soup of the day (potato), Salisbury steak and cheese board all to share. The restaurant is small with only a few tables so reservations are highly recommended. Very chill. Go there after soaking at the hot springs for the day and leave happy!

After a four mile hike in the Amargosa River Canyon a few miles from here, we drove up to have some lunch. The outdoor patio had a fair number of diners--and some kids--so we opted to eat inside where there was no one but us. This is a small spot and the building has been around for a while but it's pleasant enough inside. We were told to sit where we wanted and look over the menu. Soon, the server came by to take our order. It's appears to be a 2 person operation. We each ordered the pulled pork sandwich. It comes with cole slaw, a small plastic container of BBQ sauce, and the pork. The slaw and pork are inside the bun and it makes a hearty sandwich. I am not a BBQ fan so I ate the sandwich without any sauce. The pork was tender and the cole slaw added the liquid I needed to make an OK sandwich. I also got an iced tea. Service was very good given she was responsible for the whole placed, albeit not very large. It's good to have a place to stop in Tecopa that is dependable in their hours. Note: They do not have wifi and do not expect to have any service anywhere in Tecopa.

Locals hangout! [Randsburg CA]…read more It was a quiet Saturday afternoon when we visited this historic town this past Memorial Day weekend. We were hungry and was hoping that there was someplace to grab a bite here at this mining town. The owner of the Rock and Crystal shop pointed to this "Joint" and mentioned that they make a mean burrito and burgers. While I was still shopping at the crystal store my hubby went over to the bar and asked if the neighboring restaurant could fire up the grill for a couple of cheeseburgers w/ grilled onions (they looked like they were already putting stuff away at 4:30p). They were kind enough to oblige and we got to eat one tasty burger! The burgers were delicious... the grilled onions and seasoning they use really put flavor on those beef patties. Very good! The Joint is a family-owned saloon since 1955 with friendly folks running the bar. Decorated with patriotic flags inside and out. Was probably surprised and not used to seeing a couple of Asians walk in. As we were leaving people were starting to trickle in... looks like the fun was about to start. Found out later that they had a live band entertaining from 8:00p to midnight that evening for Memorial Day Saturday. Fun!! Review #2995

The idle spurs, a once somewhat unassuming bar on Sandy Valleys main drag; has received a facelift on the exterior and also the interior. It has been somewhat transformed into an old time saloon. Kudos on the transformation, a little bit has gone a long way. It has been several years since I have stopped in for a pop here, and my wife has never been. We entered the bar and saw approximately 5 other patrons in the bar; mostly gaming at the bar top and 2 vaping in the lot. I noticed a few patrons out back behind the bar through the back door as well, there is a horseshoe pit back there: I wasn't aware of that. A nice feature if you ask me. We sat down and ordered a beer each, Sam Addams and a Coors light: the beers were delivered cold and promptly and we ran a tab as we figured we would stay for a few beers as our plan was to then go to the Pioneer Saloon. We conversed with one of the locals who came in, a very nice older gentleman who had lived in the area since 1988. What we were unaware of was the fact that it was Karaoke night. At about 640 a man came in, Jim was his name, and began setting up a karaoke stage. Within minutes, people started trickling into the Idle Spurs. Patrons were making their karaoke stage reservations and before I knew what had happened, the Idle Spurs Saloon suddenly was packed and rivaling the occupancy of any Las Vegas locals bar. Brian the bartender is truly a gem. One bartender working about 35 customers and nobody was waiting very long at all for a drink. He crushed it. I'm not quite certain I have ever been in a bar like this one. The locals were all so inviting and friendly. We were the outsiders, albeit land owners there, we don't actually reside in town. Nobody seemed to care, as we were embraced and welcomed by everyone we came in contact with. Jim, who ran the karaoke, has just about every song imaginable in his program. I was so relaxed and felt like such a part of the town, that even I took the stage and sang. The Idle Spurs Saloon is truly a one of a kind stop, harkening back to days gone by, where people weren't glued to a cell or constantly taking selfies or watching tic tok reels. This is a down home, friendly atmosphere where people are friendly, people have conversations, and people genuinely want to get to know one another, similar to what one probably encountered in the 1950's. The Idle Spurs is 100% my new favorite place to go, in the rather rare time that I may want to go out for a beer. Next time I visit I will absolutely try the snack shack, I was already full of tacos otherwise I would have tonight.
