Stopped here on our way back from Death Valley. It's a beautiful stop to look at the history of the tow and enjoy a hot meal. I enjoyed their miner's mainstay sandwich and fries, so good! The server was very nice, and welcoming. Definitely stop by this place! read more

We stopped in Shoshone to charge our EV and ducked into the Crowbar Cafe to cool off and grab a bite. We had our medical service dog with us and were the only people in the entire restaurant. When we walked in we were asked if our dog was a service dog, said yes, ordered our food and sat down near the door. From our table we could very clearly hear the cook in the back venting to the waitress about how anyone can just claim their dog is a service dog, clearly directed at us. It was uncomfortable to say the least. When the waitress came back out we offered to eat outside or show our documentation, she said she didn't need to see it and was fine with the dog staying inside, which we appreciated. To her credit, the waitress ended up being really warm and we actually had a nice conversation with her. She mentioned that only 31 people live in Shoshone full time and that most of the staff commutes in from Pahrump, which gave us a little more context for the town. The food was on the pricier side but I get it, running a restaurant in a place this small where you never quite know who's passing through has to be a challenge. The bathrooms were clean. Honestly though, we just wanted to finish our meal and get out. The experience left us feeling uncomfortable despite the waitress doing her best to turn it around. read more

Burgers and fries, burgers, and fries! This restaurant came highly recommended from some people that had given me tips about where to go in Death Valley and no other restaurant was on the list. I was informed if I had a few extra minutes head south to the spot. It's not fancy it's Neighborly although yesterday the server was a little discombobulated because the role she was in was not her regular position however, her purpose was spot on! She smiled, remembered and a good conversationalist! Thank you This ambiance is a saloon setting with bar swing doors. Old decor but quaint. read more

We were staying at the motel across the road, and ate here at various times three days in a row. Between the four of us, we had most of the menu. Both the quality and quantity of food was very good, especially considering it's in the middle of no where! And the prices were semi-reasonable, again considering everything is trucked in from many many miles away. Nice people, nice clean place and the bathrooms were bright white and clean as a hospital. read more

Excellent stop on our way out of Death Valley. Server was super friendly and nice. Had a good sense of humor and was very accommodating. Veggie burrito was substantial and delicious. The veggies inside were plump and well-cooked. Sante Fe chicken was also very tasty. The chili wasn't as flavorful as we would have wanted but for those who want a chili on the lighter side, this is perfect. Nice outdoor seating during the sunset. It was a very nice experience. Highly recommend for those passing through! read more

Super cozy and cute spot! Not many options around so we weren't expecting much. Came in on a Tuesday at 9:50 am while a large group of bikers were here, didn't eat until 11:05 am. Our waiter was very apologetic and the other employees were rushing to get everyone's dishes out. The rush in an extremely small town is nobodies fault, however -1 star because there was no line and nobody greeted us when we came in and we awkwardly stood at the entrance for 20 min before someone acknowledged us. I ordered the spanish omelette and it was delicious! Coffee was standard pot coffee. No complaints there. Dining room pic after the morning rush was over. read more

Took our daughter and grandsons here for a midmorning breakfast as we charged our R1S at the nearby Rivian Adventure Network and enjoyed the BEST food and coffee! I was particularly impressed by the wonderful marble rye toast that came with my bacon & eggs & hash browns. All the food was perfectly cooked and high quality! The folks there were super friendly too! The decor was old west, charming and comfortable. If you need to charge your electric vehicle en route from Las Vegas to Death Valley, be sure to make the Crowbar Cafe a special destination stop! Plan to visit the Shoshone Museum right next door too. It's a gem! read more

The three stars are for the one lady who is running the show here. Cute little eatery in the middle of nowhere. Clean and tidy but only the two people working(cook and runner) so Review would be five stars if the food was even close to worth what we paid. Don't get me wrong, being in the middle of nowhere you have to expect the prices to be higher than you're used to but for pete's sake, the fries were cold and the sandwich(albeit looks fantastic) was kind of awful? Chewy and unseasoned... bread was 'chewy' like a bagel? Ended up using all the honey mustard to get it some flavor. Would I ever go back? Most likely no, but we just wanted to take her something to eat before spending the day in Death Valley. read more

Food was actually really good. We ordered Ortega burger and enchiladas. The French fries were best I have had.

During our recent road trip from Genoa to Phoenix (through the Eastern Sierra and back up via Nevada US-95), we stopped for a 2-night stay at the Shoshone Inn. The Crowbar Cafe is across the street, and basically the only place to eat in town or within miles. There is Steaks and Beers in nearby Tecopa (for dinner) that is the subject of another review. We had 2 breakfasts and a dinner here. I enjoyed the comfortable and country cafe (and bar) seating and décor, and found the breakfasts (pancakes and eggs the first morning and poached eggs with bacon, hash browns, and toast) to be plentiful and delicious. Gayle had the same, except for scrambled eggs and sausage the second morning. Although the wait person made an excellent martini before dinner, we both agreed that my fish tacos and her Chicken Santa Fe lacked taste and were overall just so-so. But in this part of outer Death Valley, beggars can't be choosers. Overall service was down-home friendly and responsive. Having a full bar available was also a real plus. Once here, we took our time and really enjoyed our meal-time stays here. read more

We didn't eat here, but stopped by for a beer. The selection isn't great (hence taking off one star), but I highly recommend Death Valley Brewery in Tecopa for a truly magical experience. What an oasis on the roadway! Expansive in and outdoor seating accommodating large groups easily. They even have a stage. They have a full bar and a bunch of beers in bottles in the glass fridge on the side of the bar. Local taps but not workable this night. Had an Ortega burger and it was a neatly placed Chile with cheese in a burger. I thought not spicy but Tabasco remedies that. Trout and salmon available here. In the middle of the desert. Yes, it was prepared perfectly and tasted great. Friendly server and cook! read more

A two lane desert highway to nowhere leads you to this little junction oasis. Shoshone is a town most people would pass through except that sign warning you there is nothing for 56 miles. And it is here that you find the Crowbar Cafe. I walked in to this cafe and was impressed. Clean comfortable tables and a spacious de room with a pretty nice looking bar area stocked with the basics. The restrooms were out back but again clean and well maintained. There is even an outdoor stage and dance area for some live entertainment should the occasion arise. The menu seemed to have the cafe basics. I went with the Ortega burger subbing out the Swiss for a cheddar/jack blend. The burger came cooked right. A little color but nothing juicy enough to ruin a bun. All toppings one would need with the pickles being a little sweet. Sides were a choice of home cut fries, potato salad or coleslaw. I went slaw. Creamy and a little sweet but not too much. The staff was friendly and attentive. My iced tea never went empty. And even though the local gas prices may scare you the meal was reasonable. Finally they have free WiFi in case you need to reconnect before heading out on the lonely highway. Great stop. Would definitely recommend. read more

My sister in law visited from out of state and we took her to Death Valley National Park. Have driven by the Crow Bar many times and decided to stop last Wednesday, March 12, 2025. It was very unsatisfactory. It took about 5 minutes before a server acknowledged us and spoke to us. In her defense and in defense of the Crow Bar she told us that there was a large party in the bar and that they were short handed that night so it would take awhile, but we were hungry and in the middle of no where so we decided to stay. I ordered fajitas and my wife and her sister ordered a combo plate. When it was clear we were in for a wait we ordered chips and salsa. The chips were hot & right out of the deep fryer but so greasy they were inedible. I assume the oil wasn't hot enough. We ate a chip each & then called it quits. It took nearly 2 HOURS to get our food. If we knew how long it would end up taking we could've driven to Pahrump and eaten at a restaurant and been home before we got our food and finished it. My steak fajitas were overcooked. The steak was dried out and was full of gristle. My wife and SIL said their food was OK but it looked like their plates had been put into a commercial salamander for too long. I understand the Crow Bar is supposed to be good, and I'd like to give them another chance, but I'd hate to try again and end up throwing my money away. If the owners would comp me I'd try it again. If not, which I would understand, then I'm not willing to put my money at risk. read more

Food was average at best. Fries weren't made fresh to order. Old and soggy. But... when in the middle of nowhere it'll certainly do!

Our food was excellent and the service was great, next door is a free museum of local wildlife and native culture. The Crowbar Cafe had that old time dinner vibe which was fun to experience on a family road trip. My husband and son enjoyed their BLTs and I had a delightful bowl of chili. read more

I would love to give this place 5 stars, but service is lacking. The waitress, seems overwhelmed even though it was not overly busy. She even had a look of disgust when she saw us sitting there. My buddy and I, and another, separate couple, had just sat down since she walked thru last. The cook ended up taking all our orders before the waitress even "took" our order. We were kind, and honest when she came by and told her what we "ordered". So, as far as service goes, still lacking as I stated in my previous review. ** However, give that cook a raise for his Hussle, and great personality!** Why did I give a much better rating? The cook took our order and had the food out ASAP! It was hot and fresh. And as I suspected, delicious! Probably the best fries I ever had, and that's no exaggeration! The cheeseburger was really good. Much better than expected from such an out of the way kind of place. Full menu now available. If you find yourself anywhere near Shoshone, I recommend stopping in and grabbing a bite! read more

Adorable little diner stop for breakfast on the way in to / out of Death Valley in Shoshone. There are only two people that work there, but they are extremely efficient and nice, small town folk. Kim was such a pleasure to talk to, she gave excellent recommendations for both meals and desserts, and educated us on some of the history of the cafe! High prices are just a part of life in small desert towns. I don't blink at an $18 turkey burger in these parts. Still, we were shocked and disappointed by my boyfriend's almost $20 Chicken Ceasar Salad here. It was a very small bowl of lettuce with less than a third of a cup of chicken slivers on top. It was less than 1/4 of what I'd call an average-sized chicken breast, even though the price was higher than my burger and fries; and almost as much as a full trout dinner. We could have ordered more food, but didn't want to give even more money to a place that was clearly screwing us. After a long day hiking in Death Valley, we really needed more food, but we left hungry. Needless to say, we won't be back. BTW: check out my reviews. I almost never give a single star.I'm not a vengeance-yelper. This was just a really bad experience. read more
