Southwest chicken panini
Elan H.

Not sure what happened but this place is now mids af. I had my go to southwest chicken panini and it was super dry and bland. I was bummed I wasted my money and calories on it.

Great spot for a quick sandwich or salad! They had a large menu of really great options. The paninis are delicious and so fresh, and huge! There is no inside seating but plenty of seating outside. Delicious sandwiches, perfect for a quick lunch.

Absolutely not double meat.

Nothing more disappointing than spending $3 extra for "double meat" and this is what you get. $17 later and I got the same amount of meat I would have gotten if I had just ordered it normal. I guess check your order before leaving.

We came here on a Friday afternoon for lunch around noon and it was busy inside, with primarily a business-lunch crowd (I'm guessing from people who work in the office buildings all around this small strip mall). Since it's part of a food court, our family split up since everyone wanted different food. Two of us got Indian food next door, one person got a Japanese Bento, and one person wanted something from Croutons. Well, just to skip to the punchline, Croutons was the best lunch of the 3. We ordered the California Panini and were really happy with the portion size--yes, you get 2 sandwiches wrapped up in that crinkly brown paper, and they got thumbs up from my kid, who ended up eating both! The ingredients were fresh, the staff were friendly, and the service was fairly fast. There were a lot of people picking up orders and the staff were efficient at calling out numbers and getting people their food. PROS: impressed with the value--2 sandwiches in 1 order, great quality and fast service. CONS: I think it would be cool, given their name, to actually get a few free croutons with each order (one can dream, eh?), but overall no Cons I can think of. BOTTOM LINE: great little lunch place with fast service, a fantastic selection of paninis and salads, and the winner of our lunch competition. Next time we're here at the food court, I'm stopping in here.

chopped COBB salad

met my wife for a quick lunch at the food court near her office. skipped my usual (a two-item curry plate from PUNJABI TANDOOR) and decided on a salad instead. i had a PEAR and BLUE CHEESE SALAD (romaine and spring mix, pear slices, blue cheese crumbles, candied walnuts and poppy seed vinaigrette). everything was fresh and the topping portions generous. the wife-unit had the COBB (romaine with diced roasted turkey breast, applewood bacon, tomato, avocado, egg, crumbled blue cheese and herb croutons) but swapped out the usual dressing options (ranch or blue cheese) for a balsamic vinaigrette. again, everything was fresh and the topping portions generous. nice to have a tasty and hopefully healthier alternative in the food court.

Pear and blue cheese salad

I ordered the combo Margherita chicken panini and pear & blue cheese salad. First off, the portion size is amazing for little over $10 you get a small salad and half a sandwich. Half the sandwich is big enough as a whole meal, same goes for the salad. But....calling a panini is an insult to any real panini. It's a sandwich... With soggy bread on one side (because of the pesto and really really tough chicken. The chicken, I don't even know how old is it.... I ended up pulling off the chicken... And the sun dried tomato? Haha, basically none existent. There was one... In a corner... But that one bite was pretty good. The salad was pretty good for a salad.

Combo Mediterranean salad and vegetarian panini

Great food and area to enjoy an hour lunch. My work is 5 minute away from this area and it is exceedingly convenient for me. I've try a couple other restaurants in this area, but this time I was craving a salad. I don't know why I didn't try this place sooner. They have an abundance of salads and sandwiches on their menu in which you can combine- like a small salad and a half sandwich. For someone like me who doesn't get full off a salad :( this is a great option. I ordered their Mediterranean salad with a Vegetarian sandwich. The salad I enjoyed very much! The sandwich not so much..It was certainly filling but very insipid. I could taste the fattening from the cheese and butter yuck. It was just too much to handle. I saw a lady with their mixed salad and it was appealing to my eyes so I will come back and try that! *You can make any salad vegetarian/vegan just sub with avocado and remove any dairy products for vegan. *Having lunch next to a water fountain can be relaxing :)

$8.95 Combo w/ Margherita Chicken Panini and Granny Smith Chicken Salad

I work down the street so if I fail to mail prep (which is often) and I'm looking for a healthy meal, I make my way over to Croutons. Wide variety of sandwiches and salads to pick from. They also offer soup with tomato basil and chicken & wild rice being the regular daily options along with a different soup of the day. Lunch combos are available. Menu items are color coded so 2 "Brown" items comes out to $8.95 while substituting for a "Red" item adds $1.25 per item. I take advantage of the lunch combo and get a panini and salad. Because of the combo, the panini is only a half portion along with a regular size salad. It is a good value for the price. Panini is just large enough to be satisfied for lunch and I save the salad for dinner. If you do plan on saving the salad, just ask for dressing on the side so the greens don't get soggy. On a cold day, get the Applewood Three Cheese Panini and tomato basil soup to dip it in. You can thank me later. Service is always great. Cashiers are very friendly and helpful. It does get busy as the make your food upon ordering so I would suggest calling in your order if you don't want to be waiting around for a good amount of your lunch time. Oh and they give out free brownies! And they're delicious! Perfect compliment to your meal. Might not be every day but they usually have it at the pick up counter.

Albacore tuna salad (sorry for the red tint- it's from the umbrella I was sitting under)
Romeo C.

Came in for lunch around 1:30pm. Wasn't too hungry and it was hot out so I didn't want anything to warm either so a salad sounded perfect. No line to wait in, went straight to the front and I ordered their small albacore tuna salad. This is one of my favorite items on their menu. Its simple, they give you a hefty scoop of tuna with small slices of cucumber, tomatoes and vinaigrette dressing. Tip: if you come in during rush lunch hours 11-12pm, they tend to get pretty busy so if you're only on a 30min break, it'd be wise to call in your order ahead of time. Tip 2: try the combo; half Applewood three cheese panini and a cup of tomato basil soup and dip the panini in the soup; you'll thank me later.

Drink orders arrived fast and our order was taken soon after getting our drinks. I ordered the Tombstone which is their Western cheeseburger, Two 1/4 lb. patties, bacon, grilled onion, cheddar cheese, AHB BBQ Sauce, topped with onion rings on a brioche bun with a side of onion rings. The portions were huge and the burger was cooked perfectly. The onion rings were pretty standard for what you'd expect but were tasty and a big portion. Beer selection was great and we enjoyed our lunch here. Highly recommended!

I was soooo excited about the Philly connection, as I'm very familiar with cheesesteaks having lived near Philly in a past life. Well, I was sorely disappointed. We were told that the bread is flown in daily from Philly. Well, I don't know where it's coming from because it's definitely not the same bread as what they normally use there. The sandwich and meat were dry and flavorless. Totally underwhelming unfortunately. So then we saw that they made key lime pie there too! Again, I was SUPER excited because key lime pie is my favorite dessert of all time. And again...disappointment. I took one glance and saw that it was light green in color and knew I was gonna be mad. Yall, Key lime pie is yellow. You should NEVER add food coloring. That's just gross and inaccurate. The texture and flavor were also off. Texturally it was way too thick and dense, which would have been fine if it actually tasted like key lime. But it was severely lacking in that tart key lime flavor that it's known for. I'd definitely go back because of the service and vibe. But I'll maybe try a burger and the cheesecake instead.

Wayde (I hope thats spelled correctly) was so sweet when we walked in and gave us the run down and made some great suggestions. If you plan on sitting down to eat, I highly recommend getting there early because seating is limited but also its a great spot to grab and go to the beach! We got the DBL (as first timers) with the beef fat fries. The flavor profile and portions are SOOO worth it. Be wise and come to The Wise Ox

our DRY-AGED BURGERS (havarti, bacon, mustard, mayo, and house-made pickles) weren't just dry-aged,…read morethey were drier than old boot leather. I get that smash burgers are all the rage these days, but if a burger patty spends as much time on the second side as it did on the first, it's not crustified; it's as tough and juiceless as jerky. an abundance of aging primals are on display at the WISE OX. when they're cut into steaks, the trimmings are ground for burgers. a not-particularly-wise cow died for our sins (so said the family's vegan son who begged off lunch). honor that and cook the meat properly. to not do so is beyond sacrilegious. if I told the meat cutter (aka the "butcher") I was going to use the dry-aged Rib Eyes or New Yorks he'd just carved up to make jerky, he'd be horrified. so, why isn't he raging at the guy on the grill doing that to our burgers? the BEEF FAT FRIES (aka Tallow Fried Fries) still have great flavor, but are still way, way, way too salty. check the photo, and count the visible salt crystals if your cardiologist's on speed dial.

I used to frequent this place quite a bit in the past before the new owners took over…read more Speaking only from my experience, this place has changed a lot, prices have gone up but that's not a shock, everywhere you go nowadays and doesn't have to be even a decent deli, sandwiches are ridiculously expensive, $16 for a sandwich? Really? Or even more depending where you go. Frankly I don't know how anyone can afford it any longer but that's a different story. The new owners still don't even seem to know what they are doing after I would say 3yrs now, maybe even more since taking over this place. I used to love going here, now I go maybe once every 3 months if even that and I know why. The service is not the same, the owners are clueless and the food doesn't taste the same at all. The atmosphere of feeling like you are at home when most everyone but mostly the owner remembered you, would come talk to you, helped you and knew what she was taking about, is all gone. I was there yesterday for one of my favorite sandwiches, meatball sandwich. I like that the meatballs are small, not a size of a baseball or even larger, just perfect size, tasty etc. I go up to the register and instead of his clueless wife when you ask her a question and she looks at you as if you're from another planet then has to go and ask one of her employees which that in itself looks totally bad, this time was her husband who looks to me for now the 4th time through the year I visited, that should just stick to staying in the gym since he looks like someone that takes care of himself that way, quite fit, and although nothing at all with that, perhaps leave the deli part of it to someone else and go back to working out instead, it seems his forte. When I told him the sandwich I wanted, he clearly said to me "what would you like with the sandwich" a question I was never asked before because it simply came with a small bag of chips or pasta salad, so I asked what did the sandwich come with, "it comes" the word that he used "it comes with", not "extra charge" and he mentioned French fries, bag of chips while he pointed where the chips were, pasta salad. I said, "I'll try the French fries". Not ONE TIME he said to me that none of the items he mentioned to me were extra charge, I even told him, "oh they come with all that you just told me"? He said yes. When I paid the total came to $24 dollars, the sandwich itself was $13.65 and a coke that I ordered was $3, how did it get to $24? Well, the French fries were extra cost. Had I chosen a bag of chips, the once he pointed at were also extra charge just like if I ordered pasta salad, I found out about the extra charge from the lady that brought me the sandwich and I asked why my bill was $24 dollars, SHE, not the owner told me about the extra charges. After I said to her, "why didn't or doesn't the owner tell you so instead of saying that these extras come with the sandwich" she looked at me and said "I don't know". She didn't even know however any of the prices of the sandwich they sell. These are the new employees now. I know you are going to think why I didn't ask right away why my bill was $24 dollars. I didn't even think about it immediately, I was hungry at this point, the place was quite busy and I wanted to find a place to sit, no excuse, but didn't think about it right away. Not until I set down and then started thinking about why my bill was higher. That was my fault. I should have immediately asked and actually I should have gone to the owner afterwards and mentioned to him that he should tell the customers correctly, meaning do NOT SAY "IT COMES WITH" that means IS NOT EXTRA CHARGE. He needs to say that wherever we want with it, there is an extra, then up to the customer if he/she wants it or not. The sandwich did not taste like the way it used to taste, meatballs still small but they were very salty, and the fries although I will say cooked pretty nice, crispy and all, a very small portion and also very salty. Overall and sadly for me because I truly liked this place a lot with the previous owner, it's not a place I would go back to. The prices are as high and now higher than any other place nowadays, nothing spectacular, their bakery department is now very limited, used to be huge and very nice selections, they used to have a pastry chef in the back that made the best deserts, and I don't know if they also changed cook, but nothing tastes the same. The place is always very busy, so I am sure I won't be missed, I won't waste my money here again. The new owners should by now know what they sell, know how to interact with customers better, know the job they took over. The owners before were absolutely wonderful and great to talk to, they would interact with you ask you if everything was ok, great service from the staff. I miss them and the new owners really need to step up, it's time. The place also very dirty on floors, tables, trash cans totally disgusting and filthy.
