Originally being from KC, I love burnt ends. Moved to Springfield and only can find good ones at a couple of places. These were absolutely the WORST I've ever had! No flavor, no bark. Chunks of beef that was a poor cut of meat. Most places I give a 2nd chance. Nope, not Crosstown. Ending in a positive note, the spicy BBQ sauce is

Really enjoyed my first visit to Crosstown. My favorite part was Steve's warm welcome and hospitality. I watched him greet customer and customer by name, asking them about their friends and families. When the crowd slowed down, he sat down next to me, shook my hand, and asked about my trips/travels. Steve told me quite a bit about how the restaurant started, and the decades of service by his family in the Springfield community (see attached photos). Our conversation alone made the trip worth it for me! The food was great and fairly priced. I would highly recommend the Big Papa (~$15), which comes with a heaping of beef and pork options and two sides of your choice. As someone who cares a lot about quantity in addition to quality, I thought everything I tried was on par with the best I've had in the city. The ribs were probably the best pieces on my plate, and I'm a sucker for crispy okra! The only thing that may turn a few folks away is the age of the restaurant. It's a bit worn and seems to be in need of a renovation. Steve mentioned that he's planning some renovations, and as a history buff, he plans to add cultural/historical prints to sit alongside how the place has changed over the years. I'll definitely be back to visit again and make a few new friends!

No thrills, not fancy but good food dive BBQ place. They get a lot of regulars and all seemed to be bring new people with them. If you are willing to take friends to a place that the staff knows you its probably a good place. The cook / possibly owner was greeting everyone and even came out to talk. - Friendly staff. My general rule when hunting for place to eat in a new area is to look where city vehicles are at. If city employees eat there its probably pretty good. I say this as a former public employee, that had nothing better to do or at least not more important than find the best lunch stops.

Owner, Steve Williams! Incredibly nice guy and has BBQ figured out!!

My wife and I were traveling across country and received a recommendation to try Crosstown BBQ. We were met with nothing but kindness as soon as we walked in the front door. Our waiter was exceptional and in tune with getting our order right. The owner, Steve introduced himself soon after we sat down and gave us great history on both the city and the restaurant! We both got sandwiches and sides which were moist and tasty! I'll stop again the next time we are driving through!

If you want good food you have to check it out. Best smoked ham I have ever had. Great service at a good price.

My daughter and I were in the area visiting and read several positive reviews so we decided to give…read moreit a try. When we first pulled up the place looked like it might have been closed, but it wasn't. We were just there at an unpopular time of day. It was around 2:45pm so after lunch and too early for dinner, but we were hungry. When we walked in, we were promptly greeted by a very kind and informative gentleman. We told him we had never been there before and he informed us that because it's a bbq place, they sell out very early. It was also St Patrick's Day and he told us even those specials were all sold out. He proceeded to tell us what they had left and made recommendations for us based on what was available. We ended up ordering the smoked turkey, burnt ends, potato salad and the bbq beans. The sauces we tried were a mustard based bbq sauce and their traditional house bbq sauce. We took a seat at a table while we waited for our food. It's a seat yourself dining room. Our only complaint about the dining room was the lighting and temperature. It was too dark inside and the temperature was too cold, but it was also very cold outside. Our food was brought out pretty quickly and everything was worth the wait! The turkey was so moist and tender and the burnt ends were charred just right. The potato salad and beans were both large enough to share. The potato salad had an unusual flavor because it was made with pickles which we love so it was different but incredibly delicious at the same time. I was so glad we ordered it. The beans were just okay for me, but my daughter really liked them. Personally, I don't get too excited about beans when there's better options to try. I'd rather put those carbs and calories to better use. LOL The sauces were both good but the mustard one had a very strong mustard flavor so if mustard isn't your thing you're not going to like it. The house sauce is just the right mix or sweet and smoky. As I'm writing this review, I'm craving the potato salad so much and the turkey too. If I'm ever back in the area, I'm definitely stopping there again. Nice staff, great food, and good portions what more to ask for.
