Amazing high end fashion but not low price. I have background in upscale fashion & grew up in China & export promotions so I know what I know what "expensive" actually looks like down to the craftsmanship, material, and style. I'm judging based on INTRINSIC value alone & not swayed at all but what is labeled designer or trendy. Not sure if this is what this store is known for but pleasantly surprised. I went home with several solid staple and standalone pieces & wasn't looking to buy unless a must. If you're into elegant & refined, this is your store. The prices are a bit pricey for a thrift, like $20 on average. However, I wouldn't knock out a star because I think that's the niche and looks like it could be $200. This place reminds me more of a consignment store bc the picks are clearly very deliberate but I'd say better than the picks there bc consignment & boutique doesn't mean they know their stuff. If you're looking for fun fast fashion clothes to fill up your clothes you might be disappointed. A few boho styles but not like urban or other box stores. More upscale. If you're willing to browse & like elegant tops & dresses you'll be happy. Bells & whistles, silks, not gaudy. Different but not too out there. Whoever selected these pieces has a good eye for high end fashion. My taste in fashion is very narrow. I like V-necks, cinched waist, silk & cotton, renaissance, ruffles & each and every piece I chose was able to hit several elements at once & truly see them as unique. It's not just the features, you can find those styles anywhere but the composition, just enough intricate detail, craftsmanship and material does for me. I won't buy anything at all if I don't really need it because I have enough clothes & if I like another piece better the other one will just sit in the closet. Each piece cannot be less liked than the rest. I still went home with bangers! I do wear S-XS though and this store just happens to be fulfill my romantic fantasies so take that for what it's worth. Had a few pieces I have to tailor but that's because I'm very particular. Even the one crop top was elegant & that's really hard to pull off! This place is more like 4.5 in overall experience because I wouldn't bring my friends here bc it's not OMG to die for, everywhere you turn there are total knockouts for the price I couldn't find anywhere else in the world, but a 4 would be unfair bc it's not a fun big fashion place like Thailand's Platinum, it's literally a thrift & a small one at that...but if we're talking to the ratio of quality pieces in there given the small space and therefore pieces, well done 5. Like I said you actually have to have a taste for high fashion & actively trying to upgrade/have places to go for this to be worth it though. You're not going to call up all your friends bc your wallet is happy & you couldn't believe the price of 20 things. It's just not that kind of store. You get the $500 dream shoes for $75 or the dress that can be a double to work or dinner date thing. Didn't actively look at the brands because I don't care, but from what I can tell more decent well regarded brands but not outdated styles. TDLR; aimlessly browsing for cheap stuff to fill up the closet for wear once and throw away party/ summer & I got insane steal prices NO. Omg how can they be soooooooo slow? Went in to sell and put my name on the list. Was 7th in line. It took almost 2 hrs to get called to the counter. I went across the street without an appt to sell at Buffalo Trading, and came back and still had to wait another 30. I will not waste my time at this location again. The Clark street location is so quick and all drop offs. Don't waste your time. read more

It's nice that you can find different places that like different things so they buy and sell here, including jewelry, hats, clothing, and shoes for adults. It's in the heart of Wicker Park where you cannot find any free parking so it's better to take the train and if you do park on the street, you're going to pay $2.50 per hour. The staff here are very nice and friendly. I would say that the prices of some of the items are a little bit higher than I would like, but they have things that are trending so it's fun. read more

Really cool place with some great finds at a great price. My only complaint would be when you selling your items to them it all depends on who the buyer is. I was "lucky" enough to get a buyer who was fairly new. This particular time it took longer than normal to sell. Normally about 20-30 min after they call your name. I just don't have very good experiences at this location when I am selling clothes. The dude at the register is so slow and aloof it's PAINFUL. He will do anything other than look at and price your clothes to get you in and out. You'll watch him literally head nod like he's falling asleep, look outside in Milwaukee and talk his co-workers about someone or something. Fiddle with his note paper, his tagging device etc etc ... To be noted, his co-workers don't offer to help even when they see guests waiting etc. I do not experience this at the other location. How this dude manages to to keep his job with such apathy is incredible. I mean the yawning alone ... get me out of here! read more

I appreciate the response from the manager. A little extra information is a good thing. However, I'm not buying the additional surcharge as "transparency". The manager stated that the surcharge went to payroll, not that the surcharge was passed directly to the staff. If I am understanding that correctly then why not have an additional surcharge for shop lighting, and additional charges for rent and heat etc. I would even be OK if the extra charge was just rolled into the price of my item. Instead pointing out specifically that in order to pay reasonable wages, the customer is additionally out of pocket is a direct attempt to influence perception that higher wages result in higher costs. And while that may be true, it is a blunt and dishonest tactic. In the interest of true transparency, perhaps they should be charging a "CEO profit maintenance surcharge". See how ridiculous that is? read more

Way overpriced for stuff that seemed to be aged in the 5-10 years old space. Just recent enough to not be fresh and just old enough to feel like you'd have to hang onto something for awhile before you could work it into your repertoire. I'm so annoyed I didn't look at the price tag of a top I grabbed --nothing I couldn't have found at a goodwill, for 5 times the price. It also seemed more disheveled than other nearby second hand shops. If you're on the hunt for one special thing, sure, check it out, but if you only have time for a couple nearby 2nd hand shops, go to Buffalo Exchange or the vintage stores. read more

This was my first experience at selling clothes at a thrift store. Setting up my appointment was easy and so was checking in. My items were taken and I was told to look around since they'll be done in like 10 minutes. Looking around I could tell that maybe my items would not be successful since it appears they care more about brands than style. Out of all my items, only 3 were taken and all I got was $16. Super bummed and likely not selling items here again. Better off selling stuff on fb market. read more

Brought in a giant bag filled with trendy brand items such as Zara, brandy, playboy , etc. wouldn't take a single item claiming that they don't take brands like that anymore, meanwhile while shopping majority of their stock was SHEIN and princess Polly and other fast fashion labels. For buying, this place is fine. Can be crowded and slightly overpriced but overall not bad. For selling--If what you have to sell is a year or two out of the current fashion or not the style they're looking for, don't waste your time. The process is fine, but on a crowded day I waited an hour total to get $8 from one item out of 2 large bags because my things were too "business casual" The employees were nice and seemed efficient, but I'd say only sell if you have name brand, current styles, and like-new condition. I'm sorry to say that if you want to compete with Buffalo Exchange across the street, your employees should be more personable. I walked in after not finding what I needed at Buffalo Exchange, and I did find what I was looking for here!! Only thing was that I felt like I was inconveniencing the employees by being in there. Asked for a clothing item off a mannequin, which I get is annoying because I also work in clothing retail!!! But it was exactly the item I needed and I had been looking all afternoon. None of the employees would look me in the eye while I was there, didn't even get so much as a "have a good day" from the guy who checked me out. Had no idea this was a chain, but then again I"m not usually a thrift store shopping kind of gal. Another hit or miss place...but I had more hits here than Lenny & Me down the street. You have to really spend some time going through all the racks, but it's worth it for the few gems you'll walk away with including the very cool bright orange jacket I found here today. They are also picky about what they buy from other people...I dropped off a huge bag of clothes after cleaning out my closet and they didn't want any of it because it was all "too summery" for this time of year. Fortunately, The Brown Elephant down the street was more than happy to take it off my hands. read more

This was the last discount store I went too before I left to go back home but we were here for a short time only because we've been to various stores throughout Milwaukee Ave. This place was the most cleanliest of all discount stores. They feature alot less stuff though but they have it at lower prices. If you're not picky about trying to find something to find And don't want to dig forever for stuff and not suffer with long lines , this is the place for you read more

Had a great experience at this store yesterday! When you walk in the staff is always good about greeting each customer which is really nice. Jake is always so helpful and very knowledgeable with higher end items and vintage clothing. Wendy is also so friendly and is really on top of trending items. Which is very helpful when I'm shopping for new items to add to my wardrobe. Lastly, the cleanliness of the store is always A+ and love the new look of the store. read more

Gutted my closet. Stopped by after my trip to Buffalo Exchange to see what they would take. Surprisingly they took the most random pieces: a silver dress, a unique skirt and a black crossbody bag. Payout was okay. What the sales associate did tell me was that they begin taking in spring stuff at the end of February and to bring back a lot of stuff. Interesting experience. read more

Pointless selling clothes here. I got $35 for 6 items that were originally more than $800. I got $10 for rag and bone jeans which are $300 new and they were worn once. They purposely aren't transparent about what they take and how much they're giving you for each item because they don't want you to question amounts. read more

My daughter was attempting to sell them some clothing so we went to pick up the items they didn't accept (which was 98% of it). I love resale shops, but some of they are cluttered, poorly organized and don't smell so nice, so I'll quickly feel a panic attack coming on and need to get out of there. THIS IS ONE OF THE GOOD ONES! It smells great, is easy to move up and down the aisles that are NOT jam-packed, and the selection is enticing. They have some nice jewelry... not a lot, but a good selection. There are some pricey items, but I thought those prices were fair. As for selling, they will actually let you leave your items there and return within two days. They want items appropriate for the season. read more

Would much rather spend some time at real thrift stores with nice things. The selection is very limited and the clothes are pretty plain for the price. The price range is just like how a regular department store would be, even though the clothes are all out of season and used. I heard they don't even pay a lot for the clothes that are given to them, yet they market them for a lot higher. After shopping here for five years, I was recently told that I was not allowed to purchase any items less than 4 weeks old. Meaning I would not be allowed to purchase 'current' merchandise - I would only be allowed to purchase merchandise that no one else wanted. Crossroads fan, just not of this location. Review for shopping only: This is a small store with a very small selection, disproportionally number of tops, limited bottoms. Condition of many items fall into well worn than gently used, especially shoes. I spied too many that looked dirty. It feels more thrift store than consignment shop with the higher prices of the latter. Aesthetic leans towards casual hipster, and other styles not well represented. Dust bunnies in dressing rooms, so it doesn't look like they sweep frequently or throughly enough. Prefer Lincoln Park or Andersonville stores. read more

However I've tried to sell here at least 4 different times and they've never accepted anything I brought in....thought I was just my clothes weren't up to date but I'm bringing Vincent Camuto shoes coach purses Akira and Zara dresses/skirts so it can't be that....my sister and a couple coworkers tried to sell here too and they didn't accept from them either.... It seems that they don't buy from black people and because of that I haven't shopped there all year I only made this review after this store came up in conversation and I saw that people close to me had the same problem. read more

Ugh. I used to kinda like this place but today completely turned me off. So, I went in to sell some of my old clothing. I had the usual Express, Forever 21, some Macy's stuff, whatever. It wasn't all bad. I come in and see the cashier helping another customer. That's cool, I wave and say hi and sit on the bench. The cashier says nothing back to me but continues to give me the side eye while talking to the customer. During that time, another couple come in. She finishes up with a customer and starts arranging some crap around the counter just in time to ask them if they've signed in and ready to sell. Not to mention the fact that I had been sitting there for about 3 mins while she barely looked in my direction (minus the side eye when she couldn't be bothered to speak). Thank god the buyer (Edina) was taking a break and walked up. She was the only one who kept me from just throwing my clothes all over the store in a fit of rage. She was really nice and sweet about not being able to take anything. But that wench Ashley with the bad spray tan (yeah, I heard your co-worker say your name on her way out the door)? Mixed emotions. The Saturday that I went to sell some items it seemed as if more people were 'selling' than 'buying' and I am sure that contributed to the buyer being very selective. The racks were still pretty packed with summer like merchandise and very few fall items outside of puffy(?) coats had made it out to the floor. That is when I made my assumption that this is a store for the 'Forever 21' set...and I was right. The only rack that the girls were pulling from was the puffy coat rack. I know we live in Chicago and it gets cold quickly but.... This Crossroads does not have much grown-up merchandise. The shoes are ratty ballet flats or clubbing platforms. Nothing really in-between. The designer labels are quite limited and they are hung above the racks just like at the thrift store...that made me a little uncomfortable. Sizes range from 0 to maybe 6. Very few outside of those. Wicker Park's shopping demographic is perfect for this store and I take it for what it is....this Crossroads just isn't perfect for me. One plus though...they have a hot guy who is the buyer with long blonde hair, great voice and looks good in skinny jeans. Who knew that was possible? He is the only reason I would return to this store. read more

Sure, it's hit or miss, but there are gems to be found if you dig a little bit. I snagged a killer Diesel shirt for $19, a crazy little wrap-around tank / shell for $8, and a faux-layered dark charcoal long-sleeve shirt that was similar to one I was considering at Futurgarb down the street for $18. I also had a bit of internal debate about a vintage Smiths t-shirt for $12 (it fit perfectly and I like the Smiths, but do I really want to advertise the fact? Would I be faced with the awkward probability of goths and emo kids trying to start up a conversation with me?) so I passed on it, but I think I'll go back on Monday and resume the debate if it's still there. The staff is super friendly--the fitting room clerk let me take 7 pieces in despite the 6-only rule, and the cashier correctly guessed that I had a closet full of black clothes. And I told her that I like that they have everything grouped by color (similar to many thrift stores), but that's only because I'm totally monochrome (black mostly, and gray if I'm feeling a little riskier. And no, I'm not a goth--honestly). It's a good place to stop into and browse if you're not seeking out something particular, and I luckily got away from there with a bill under $50 for three pieces. I am a fan of this branch of Crossroads as a seller! I have sold a lot of clothes here over the years. This branch of Crossroads gives a high per-item price, as compared to similar retailers. I would say that while the staff keeps their behavior professional, they are not super friendly. I have also found that sometimes the staff is rather slow when looking over your items and subsequently checking them into the computer system--slower than other branches of Crossroads or competing retailers. Overall, this is one of the better stores to sell your clothes in Chicago! read more

I don't mind paying a higher price for secondhand stuff when it comes with the convenience of not having to sift through endless racks of trash to find my treasure...but that convenience is not to be found at Crossroads, because you have to plow through a lot of uninteresting, overpriced stuff, most of which comes from Forever 21 and isn't even much cheaper than you might find it for at the actual store. This is even more apparent when the original price tag is still intact. $17.50 for a pair of Forever 21 pants that originally costed $21.00, no thank you. To be fair, I did find a Built by Wendy coat for $35 and a Marc Jacobs buttondown for $18, neither of which fit me...but because of the overkill of unjustifiably overpriced Forever 21 stuff, I probabaly won't find myself wanting to come back here again. read more

Great place, I like it a lot! Smaller than the Lincoln Park store, however. Tons of clothes to look through. I love that it's mostly name brand clothing. Sometimes you luck out, sometimes you don't. I bought a Chanel purse there (Real? Fake? Whatever, looks awesome to me.) for $32 and I use it all the time. Best purchase there. Have spotted Coach, Lacoste and Marc Jacobs shoes (All too small for me), Dolce and Gabbana shirts, Marc Jacobs shoes and other designers. Most stores of this variety can be hit-or-miss but this one is always a must when I am in the area. Don't bank on the idea that you'll get a ton of cash for selling your old clothes though. It's frustrating to find out your $60-whatever will only be bought by them for $8 and sold for $15, but that's just the way it is with stores of this variety. read more

Welcome back to awesomeness, Crossroads! Loved it when it opened, then stopped going a year ago after finding nothing but crappy t-shirts, Urban Outfitters rejects, and buyers who didn't know of any labels more interesting than Free People (which is right across the street.) Recently returned and found it a changed store. The woman at the counter told me they had new management and have been given more freedom to buy. It shows. It took me about a minute and a half to find two amazing things to spend my trade money on. And they even took my incredible vintage dresses on consignment. Right after me, a woman walked in with a gorgeous Chanel Boutique dress. Who knew? Note: The Wicker Park store is the only one that's allowed to buy vintage. Use that to your advantage. read more

This place is awesome. You can get real clothes here. I've gotten everything from business casual (although verrrry slim pickings), casual stuff and comfy clothes for the house. The people are nice too. I found two great pairs of jeans and other stuff. Its also well organized by size and color, unlike some other vintage places I've gone. Its got a indie flavor, but has a more mainstream feel than Buffalo Exchange, which is more of my style. read more

Maybe I came in on a good day, but I'm in love with this place after one visit. I was looking for a simple gray or black cotton tube dress with some cotton tunic dresses to wear over it. I had stopped in American Apparel right next door for the tube dress, thinking for sure they would have it, but the guy i asked was just kind of like "uhhh...i dont think so, sorry." so i went into Crossroads and went to the relevant section (It's organized by color and style which is PERFECT!), and found a, guess what, American Apparel gray tube dress. for $6. I tore through that rack of dresses and found about 10 dresses to try on in less than 20 minutes. i ended up liking most of them, but only bought the tube dress and a really cute lacy gray dress to wear over it. The lacy dress was $13.50. I'm not the kind of person that cares about designer labels and stuff like that, I just want the clothes I buy to be cute. This is totally my new go-to place whenever I feel like shopping, because it has super cute stuff for decent prices. Cheaper stuff is across the street at Buffalo Exchange. It's not your typical $3-$5 place like Village Discount, but I normally hate places like that because they have ugly 80's shoddy quality stank-ass clothes. And Crossroads is quality, cute, and only slightly smelly (the reason for the minus one star). Also bonus points for the donations they make to charities when you bring your own bag! read more

Crossroads is amazing! The store manager Wendy was so sweet and helpful as she took me through the process of selling clothes (I was a first timer seller and nervous). After making a very good amount of money, I bought some clothes because the selection was so cute. The jacket I bought has become one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. Instead of donating my clothes to Amvets (which is what I normally do), I decided to see how much cash I could make off of my old stuff. So I packed up 4 large shopping bags of things that I didn't want and/or that didn't fit me and dragged it in here. There was a little bit of a wait when I got there, so I decided to browse in the mean time. I thought their selection was kind of limited, and I found it rather irritating that they had grouped women's tops together by color rather than size. Honestly, what's the point of that? I (and, I imagine, most other people) have better things to do than dig through 50 black tops to find out that only two of them fit me. Also, some of the shoes they had for sale were GROSS. Clothes you can at least have dry-cleaned or whatever..... but shoes? I'm talking crusty and stretched out and just ew. They ending up taking about 80% of what I brought in, most of it from The Limited, Calvin Klein, the Gap and Banana Republic. I wasn't really that surprised by the stuff they didn't buy from me, though they did pass on a $158 brand-new-with-tags French Connection sweater, which I thought was odd. (The guy buying my stuff said that he thought the sequins on it were tacky. But hey, whatever. I guess I can sell it on e-Bay or take it to a consignment shop.) The final tally was 16 items with a total retail of about $175. Crossroads gives you 35% of the total retail if you opt for a check or 50% if you go for a store credit. I ended up making about $61 (I went for the check given the aforementioned lackluster offering). Not a huge sum of money..... about 2 rounds of cocktails for me and a couple of friends.
