Ordered a California CHEESE steak with just cheese and Mayo and got a steak Hoagie with Mayo and veggies, which I can't eat.

I'm not really sure why this place gets such high marks. Nostalgia, I suppose. When we walked in, the servers were a bit gruff and boisterous. Very strange "greeting." Awkward. The cheesesteak I got was nothing special. Sauce was too sweet. I did kind of like the crunch on the outside of the roll. Aside from that, BORING. I hadn't been back to PA in a few years, and frankly, I was disappointed in the pizza and the cheesesteaks at most of the spots I visited. My son's chicken strips were more enjoyable. read more

Just a really rude and unpleasant "lady" at the takeout register this evening. Absolutely not one word, other than $46.11. The lady who brought my order to the register was kind and asked if I was Robert, and made a nice eye contact. And then the "person" at the register, WOW. FORTY SIX ELEVEN. The only words spoken by her. No hello, no order vearification, no 3.89 is your change, and no THANK YOU, COME AGAIN, or even 1 word, since 2 of the easiest words to say we're not spoken, ENJOY! Me and my family received nothing. I can gaurantee the unpleasant individual will not see me and my family again. Visiting from out of town and was looking for a place that was close. I went here and completely regret it. I should have known it was going to be a weird experience when the young lady picked up the phone. She was super rude about putting me on hold, didn't even ask just said hold, then didn't even put me on hold and just put the phone down. She then comes back on the phone and asks what I would like. I tell her I'm from out of town and ask her what does she recommend? I am then told to look at the menu and I make my selection quite quickly. Food was a 6/10 but that customer service is a major reason I didn't enjoy my visit. read more

I decided I wouldn't leave any negative reviews for anybody because of Covid last thing I wanna do is make things more difficult for businesses that are struggling to do the best they can under difficult times. However what happen tonight at this establishment absolutely bags to be put out there for everybody to hear. I'm 50 years old and this is one of the top three worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. Look at my review history, I am someone who very rarely leaves a negative review tonight I actually got up and walked out of a place before the food even arrived. I've never done that before in my life. I had to take my daughter to the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia today where she found out she will have to have a major surgery this summer. Needless to say she was devastated. To try to lift her spirits I told her we would stop at crossroads on her way home. It's your favorite cheesesteak spot. And I thought it would really be the thing to lift her spirits. We walked in and we're basically ignored for 10 minutes and then finally directed to just sit at a table. An hour later our food still hadn't arrived. Mind you this is a Monday night at 6 PM the place was practically empty. Thank you so much crossroads for taking a really horrible day for my daughter and making it even worse. This is an absolute disgusting way to treat people and you deserve to be out of business. Two other tables came in and got their food before us. Oh by the way really difficult order to cheesesteaks and A small pizza. Obviously way too difficult for your kitchen handle. I finally made it here! I ate the BEST traditional cheesesteak ever, pizza is fresh and tasty too. The service was slow at times , and they do not rake reservations . That's a decent trade off. Just expect to wait to be seated on a Friday or Saturday night!!! read more

Made this my first stop on my recent visit back to the Lehigh Valley because I always heard how good the cheesesteaks were. Service was great, prices are good but I just don't care for the way they do their cheesesteaks with the cheese melted on top. Would be much better if the cheese was melted into the meat when it's on the grill. Maybe I'll try the pizza next time. read more

We have been going to the crossroads for more than 40 years with no complaints, however, today my steak sandwich was served with a side of bug, yes I said BUG! Since the new owners took over 2 years ago or so, the crossroads has gone down hill, all which I was happy to overlook until today when the BUG was served. Will NEVER be back! read more

Cheap beer, $7 and change for pitcher of light beer. Pizza advertised as "thin and crispy" . It wasn't really that thin and it was undercooked, so not crispy. Sauce, meh, needed to add spice at the table. Cheesesteak? Meat was great, not chewy, but the sauce horribly sweet. One bite enough for me. Don't recommend cheesesteak there unless you are looking for dessert. Service fine, relatively cheap, lots of men sitting at bar for the cheap beer, just meh. I live in NJ and was visiting a friend yesterday 10/21/20. Decided to have lunch at Crossroads. I hate when the service stinks just as much as the food did. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger, medium and well done fries. Burger came out BURNT and no cheese and the fries never came out as well. Waitress did not bring out ketchup and we needed napkins. I walk inside and she is on her cell, texting. I asked her for napkins and asked about my fries. She went into the kitchen and again...no ketchup. Another waitress handed me the ketchup and eventually, our waitress brought out my fries while mumbling that it was the kitchens fault and not hers. Once she brought my fries out, I took a bite of my burger to find it was so burnt and so dry. I took a second bite and could not eat it after that. When she finally came out to bring the check, I told her to take it off the bill..she never asked if she could get me anything else or bring another burger. Just pure garbage on a plate and the service....just garbage as well. read more

As others have said here, when we moved into the area all we kept hearing was this is the best pizza around. From outside, it looks hopeful... a decent looking old inn building. But once you go inside you enter a time warp. There are fast food places that have more ambiance than this joint has. Formica tables (sticky and dirty from the tired old waitresses), sticky dirty floors, very thin, floppy paper plates and plastic utensils that actually bend as you try to eat with them! The food stinks. The pizzas are the worst I've ever had in my life. They market the same pizzas frozen in the area... perhaps they are serving the same frozen ones in-house. The sauce is incredibly acidic and salty. The bread they use for their sandwiches is awful low grade stuff full of air. Think Wonder Bread hoagie. The cheese steaks are no better than you'd get at (ugh) Sonic and are actually dry. They taste of a dirty flat top grill. The fries are obviously frozen and poorly cooked. This place is perhaps popular because of family habits... and it's cheap. I can't imagine anyone rating this highly really knows what a good tasting meal is--or a good pizza. Maybe after another generation or two goes by the wayside, someone will wake up and re-hab this place and start cooking some real food--and REAL pizza. I'm sure the only reason they can stay in business is because it's a family owned business and building. Low overhead can make any nightmare of a restaurant keep it's doors open... Stay clear of this low grade place. Anyone know Robert Irvine's number?? Update: Good Lord, does anyone know how to rate a restaurant on here? There are people taking about "bitchy" waitresses, "greasy food", slow service, a bad smell, trashy old decor, and a frozen pizza taste... and STILL they give it 4-5 stars?? I'm not a huge cheesesteak person, but I can tell when cheesesteak is dry and boring. And Crossroads cheesesteak is dry and boring. The pizza is nothing special. The atmosphere is totally blah. We always get takeout for my family there, because for some reason they like it. Another drawback is that they only take cash, which I guess is fine if you have a huge demographic of old people who are afraid of credit cards. Parking is a mess as well. read more

I've picked up a frozen pizza or two. Definitely different than most pizza in the Valley. We did eat in one night and had cheesesteaks. Not the best, but not the worst. They defintely haven't redecorated in years, and our waitress was pretty surly. The food did come out pretty fast though. We went there because someone told us this place had the best cheese steaks in the Valley. For what it is, it is good stuff. Look here for the very most basic in bar food. Had a cheese steak and it was good - good like the neighborhood italian place near where I grew up in NJ. Would definately go back for another cheese steak. This is something it seems like most places in this area have trouble doing right, so I'm giving four stars for getting a simple greasy basic down. Price was also right. Bizarre service experience - waitress brought our sandwiches out on a tray, put plates on our table, and then transferred the sandwiches from her tray to our plates with her bare hands directly on the bare sandwich! After reading mixed reviews on here, my friends and I decided to try the place for ourselves. I had heard they make a mean cheesesteak. Well we walk into the place at 5 pm on a Saturday and as my sister put it they might as well have hung a sign outside that said "retirement home." As it was jammed packed with older people. The place was rather worn looking and had a smoking area to the left (yuck!). We were going to get our food to go when we realized we would have to stand there for 15 minutes waiting for our food. The place had a weird odor going on, and that coupled with the "ambiance" we just couldn't take it. We high tailed it out of there. So my recommendation is definitely don't eat in here. I was visiting a local college with my son and stopped here after hearing a positive recommendation. What a mistake. We both ordered cheesesteaks. They were toasted on top to melt the cheese but so soggy underneath that the roll fell apart when trying to eat it. What a mess. Sent them back, asked for the check and left. Waitress said she 'comped' me the two cheesesteaks but charged me for the fries and drinks anyway, which we barely touched. Quite an experience. We stopped in for a slice. They don't sell 1 slice, but two. After receiving them, we understood why. They were incredibly small...baby slices. They should be embarrassed to sell such small slices. The one thing that brings me back to Pa...besides family of course. I don't know if it's a mix of the nostalgia (probably the first pizza I have ever had), remembering fighting with my cousins to get the seat by the "big fish," or just how good the food is, but when I have my yearly pilgrimage back East (relocated to Ca), the first stop is usually Crossroads. Now, don't get me wrong, I love the pizza. And the pirogies. So, if I had to eat it in a truck-stop bathroom, I probably would. That being said, there's something to be said for dining IN. Things haven't changed much in the 20 some-odd years I've been breathing it all in... The same waitress that served my parents during their "courting" days serves us now. Usually I hate when servers sit down with you- it seems condescending . Here, it's not. She's friendly enough and tired enough for it to work. The pizza itself is simply wonderful. Once again, I can't tell if I'm biased because of nostalgia, or because of family pressure (my grandparents basically lived up the street), but I also don't care. I'll let the reader decide if there is any objective basis for my review, and if there isn't, I'm truly sorry. Finally, one of the advantages I love now-a-days, being in my mid-twenties, is drunkenly reminiscing about Crossroads IN CROSSROADS. There is good pizza, there is bad pizza, and then there is the Crossroads. If I had to describe Crossroads pizza in one word it would be legendary. I have friends who drive from Philadelphia and North Jersey to smash a couple pitchers of beer, cheesesteaks, and a few pizzas. However, before you go here expecting New York style pizza be for warned that this is a more traditional bar pizza that has thin crispy crust, sharp cheese, and tangy sauce. The flavor of the pizza is fantastic and it is completely unique to the Matey's style. Personally, I have been going here my entire life and it was a good tonight as I ever could remember it. Crossroads Hotel is a cash only so make sure you have money. It is a locally owned establishment that has offered roughly the same menu options since its inception. Pizza, Cheesesteaks, and French Fries. The menu has some other items but personally I would never stray from the mainstays. They have a full bar and a giant marlin hanging in the dinning area. The place gets busy around dinner time and does an ok lunch. If eating leftover Crossroads pizza for breakfast is wrong, I don't want to be right. read more

Best cheesesteak outside of Philly....and dare I say one of the best ever over any in Philly? I do! Their beef is super yummy- finely chopped and tastes like roast. Not too greasy. The best part is they toast the sandwich under a broiler so it gets toasty. The only drawback is 1) customer service is certainly lacking. 2) always crowded so it takes a while to get your order once you arrive for takeout 3) wish they did delivery! read more

Ive been going to this restaurant since I was kid, and never had a argument the the employees. Order the same sandwiches for years, and they argued with me about the sauce. Going there for years and the sandwich my wife gets the same one almost every day and it never came with sauce. It's a California chz steak which doesn't come with sauce, and little girl argues with me about the sauce i told her it never came with sauce crossroads has the same food that they had since I have been going there. She says I've work here like that makes a difference, you work her then she should know how everything is made. Also learn that the customer is always right, and i never had a problem like this with the service. If I didnt like the owners i would never go back, but when i go and the owners are there they treat you like family. I would love to give a better rating just for the owners, but the waitress at the carry out needs retraining and a class for food service 101. Great place for nostalgia. Growing up in Freemansburg, my family and I frequented this place. Two pitchers of Birch Beer and two large Cheese pizzas were a biweekly occurrence. As a kid I begged for jukebox money and was utterly delighted to hear my song come on. We took turns posing in front of the mounted Swordfish they have on the wall. I moved away from the area 9 years ago so when I came back for a two week visit this place was first on my "we must eat here" list. Everything is exactly as I remember it. The birch beer is the same, the pizza is the same, the swordfish is still there but the jukebox was moved or missing. I get that though because I can imagine they are extremely expensive to own. The bacon pizza pie is our favorite; no matter what else we order from the menu, it's not Crossroads without a bacon pie. You must try it if you enjoy bacon. One of the best chesesteaks in the Valley. I've read some people think the steaks are dry, and they can be; you just have to order extra sauce on the side and dip. Their sauce is a bit sweeter than most but it still is very tasty. Cheese is not goopy white american like most other places. Crossroads uses a blend of mozzarella and provolone on their cheesesteaks. Great fries and pierogies. Decent selection of beers on tap too. My sister swears by the pizza, but I'm not a fan. It's a little salty and the crust has the consistency of a store bought frozen pizza. read more

I moved to NC 5 years ago but still visit once a year. I was so disappointed when I heard this place was closing. When I heard they were reopening I was concerned that the food would never be the same. I'm happy to say that the pizza and the steaks were exactly the same as they were when I last visited many years ago. Thanks for the attention to detail. Their pizza is good but cheesesteaks are their speciality. The best cheesesteaks north of Philadelphia in my opinion.. I practically lived on this delightful sandwich during college. That along with beer and fries and I was in heaven! Their secret is in a final baking of the steak in a pizza over, melting a generous portion of mozzerella cheese on top. That adds an incredible taste. I still look forward to take out from the Crossroads on special occasions. They have a nice bar and eat-in restaurant.
