I haven't been in this location in 30 years. Nothing at all has changed. You can still smell some of the cigarette smoke from years and years ago. It's pretty dark with dark wood and not very bright in the restaurant. Overall, it's what I would refer to is a blue hair restaurant without the blue hair prices. I was surprised. The bill was as much as it was as much as it was. The food was pretty well portioned. You're not going to go home hungry for sure but the quality is average at best. It is a friendly family setting. I want to rate Crossroads higher because I've been there so many times. But after this last visit, I have to admit it's a 3 star at best. We started with the shrimp scampi en baguette. The flavor of this dish is good, but the shrimp is a little rubbery. It's still probably worth getting if you go. I got a French dip, and I should have read the menu more closely, because it doesn't have cheese or onions or anything. It's just beef on a bun. My wife's baked haddock was downright bad. She couldn't finish it. My son's chicken finger basket was good. So if you order right the food might be a four but if you aren't careful, it can be a two. The service was friendly but our waiter disappeared for long periods of time when we needed him. He didn't bring us plates for our shared appetizer. And he wasn't around when our drinks were empty. The atmosphere is casual with a generally older crowd. The booth was uncomfortable. And there are these strange red lights in the dining room for no reason at all. I never really complain about cost but this dinner was over priced at $150 Bottom line: it's a decent neighborhood hoot, but if you aren't in the neighborhood it's probably not worth stoping by. read more

My wife and I were going to a nearby movie and wanted to eat afterward. Since the film was over around 8:45, we called ahead and we're ASSURED that the restaurant closed at 10, stopping service at 9:30. We hustled out of the cinema and got to Crossroads just after 9 to find the doors locked. The bartender simply ignored us outside. I'm surprised by all the hate for this restaurant. I tried it for the first time last week and I really enjoyed it. It's definitely not the most eye-pleasing place in the world, could possibly use a remodel but maybe I just like that. I was in on a Thursday around 5 and sat in the bar which was packed by about 5:30. JJ and Dave were on the bar and they were both great guys. JJ made me a killer Manhattan. But it was the food that really stood out. i got a 16 ounce sirloin with blue cheese crumbles on top with a loaded baked and steamed vegetables. The steak was a perfect medium rare and the potato and veg were really good too. I cleaned my entire plate. I'll admit that the bar could be a bit overwhelming for some. It's free and open with great banter (a bit colorful at times) from the staff. It's totally my style and everyone around was having a great time. It's just a fun atmosphere. I will 100% be back soon. I really like Crossroads, even though it's overpriced since the pandemic. Nice, old-fashioned restaurant/bar where you can have a conversation (or not), watch sports on TV, eat, drink, socialize. I liked it a lot better before the pandemic. You could get a smaller-sized dinner special until 4 or 4:30 at a very reasonable price, food seemed better, portions bigger and prices not cheap but more reasonable. The portions and quality of sides, like a side of vegetables, are not great anymore. I like the fact that Jay, the owner, walks around and talks to the customers. Very nice man. You really want to like this place. It's old school, with mature hosts, waiters and waitresses. It feels like every restaurant my parents took me to in the 1970s and I'm more than ok with that. Our waiter this time around was fine. No better. No worse. Just plain fine. Gave off sort of an indifferent vibe. As soon as we sat down we noticed our arms basically stuck to the table. Gross. A glance around the joint and it reminds you of something out of Goodfellas. Ceiling tiles that havent been cleaned since 1974. Tacky decor. Eh whatever. As long as the food is good I'm fine with it. I don't think I saw any entrees under $10. Even the sandwiches were over $10. I got a lobster roll. At $16.95, a bit of a bargain compared to the going rate. I said no lettuce on my lobster roll. Apparently they fill half the roll with lettuce since the roll was only half full of lobster. Huge roll. Little bit of lobster. To make it worse, they put celery in the lobster. We read mixed reviews on many websites and wanted to give it a chance. The owner who walks around talking to tables made it a point to not stop by our table after walking by many times and making eye contact. The table was sticky, waitress was fine but seemed uninterested in anything. She did the bare minimum (never checked for refills or how the food was after food was delivered). My kid had the pasta and the "red sauce" which tasted like a cheap version of Hunts canned pasta sauce. I had meatloaf which had no flavor, meat was grey and didn't resemble ground beef at all, basically reheated mystery meat with gravy ($23). Mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes and not even close to real potatoes. My wife had a hamburger that was dry (ordered medium) and tasted like a cheap version of a bubba burger ($15). Last night we headed to Crossroads for a quick, post-Christmas night out. I can't say it was a great decision. The service was fine but the meal came very slowly. It took over 30 minutes. I had the burger with blue cheese on top. Burger was okay, blue cheese was way too salty and the taste overpowered the burger. My companions had the caesar salad, salmon, meatballs, fried chicken, broccoli. Food was okay, not great. I like that they pour a large class of wine, but think that the wines offered could use some updating. Perhaps something more interesting than Beringer, etc. The beer list is lacking creativity as well. Killian's Red? How about some of these cutting edge Massachusetts beers like Night Shift or Jacks Abby. I used to recommend Crossroads to friends. Now I'm not sure. The place needs an updated menu and drink list, IMO. read more

Every time I eat there it's delicious! The restaurant is clean & the staff is very friendly. They have a large variety of food & drinks & the prices are very reasonable. I'm a big fan of their roasted pork. Due to the current shut down situation they're only open for take-out. I'm not a fan of take-out because it doesn't taste the same. The food is very good and reasonably priced, however recently I was overcharged for two kids meals. When I questioned the waiter, he said prices have gone up. He charged $2. more than stated on the menu for each meal. I should have asked for the manager, but instead I paid the bill. The waiter first said he would talk to his boss, then told me prices went up. The prices did not go up and he scammed me ( probably to get himself more of a tip). So buyer beware! read more

I sit at the bar, have a beer or two, and appetizers. The prices are not bad, the food is good, and the service is excellent. I can always depend on friendly, efficient service by professionals - those that never chit chat when there's a customer to attend, never seem rushed even when busy, and somehow, even at crunch time are in sync with our need-a-drink-or-ready-to-order rhythms. My husband and I finally tried crossroads cafe and it is definitely an older crowd which doesn't bug us! It might be a turn off for other folks. We went for dinner around 5:30 and were seated immediately. They had red lights on over our booth and it felt very Valentine's Day themed - not sure if that's the norm or not. I got the hot pastrami sandwich while my husband ordered the burrito. Mine was hot and tasty but nothing special while my husband said his burrito tasted like everything came out of the freezer. The pretzel sticks were tasty though! Everyone was friendly but it did take a bit to get drinks refilled. Not a bad experience overall just not stellar. We frequently go to Crossroads in Acton for dinner. One of my favorite meals is liver and onions, and Crossroads is the only restaurant that I am aware of that has it on their menu. However they have several other meals on their menu that we have tried and we have always been very happy with the food and with the service. This is always on our list if restaurants to dine. We even make the trip from Hudson for the martinis, great pours of wine and delicious nachos. The waitstaff is so professional and nice with the exception of the waiter continuously blowing his nose into a napkin and throwing it out in the trash beside us. Please go into the bathroom to do this and not in in the middle of the dining area. Our meals were disappointing in price and quality. Husband's meal cost $32 for a seafood pasta. From the minute it arrived at the table, it had such a strong, fishy smell which we discovered were the scallops. I ordered the chicken parm sandwich at almost $20 and I couldn't tell if chicken was over cooked or under cooked. It was like eating rubber. I will try again and hope it was just an off night but definitely not worth $125 with tip! read more

I've lived practically next door to this wonderful restaurant for over 20 years. It gets better and better. Of course, by now, they recognize me when I walk in the door, know which tables I like, and what I'm likely to order. So I guess this is a very biased review, but they deserve it. I usually go there for Sunday brunch, which is really a great Sunday dinner around the mid day hour, some brunch items only served on Sundays around noon, and a full menu available as well at that hour. I could have a quiche and salad, (always excellent, fresh, good crust on the quiche, salad of fresh greens, excellent dressing, and anchovies with the Caesar salad). Or I could order the 12 once London broil, or the full turkey dinner...or a burger, or french toast, eggs benedict; the options are amazing. I guess that's why it's a great place to go for Sunday brunch..no pancakes...go down the road 100 yards if you insist upon pancakes. Dinner, NOW, if you want to go to dinner, obviously you want some drinks and dinner, and are prepared to wait as so many people wait to be seated, or choose to be served at a table in the bar, whichever....the food is still fantastic, the drinks are over-priced for a man like me on a fixed income, but for you young folks who don't mind paying $7-$10 a drink after happy hour, or just want a few beers, it's fine, all sorts of options again. Please don't have more than 2 alcoholic drinks without eating if you are driving a car, 3 drinks at most if you have a full meal. I live near by, and the neighboring kids play in the road, and I don't want you to hit them when you're half drunk from more than 2 drinks. Now, the food, there are some things they do better than others, so try almost everything on the menu and figure out what you like best. I think the burgers are just about ordinary or on-par, not sensational. Their french fries, there's better alternatives, sweet potato, or mashed, or one of their wonderful salads. I know the owner, obviously, since he comes and greets me each and every time I go there. So yes, I'm biased, but he greets almost everyone who goes there, he's just that sort of guy, and if there's something wrong with your order, he'll fix it, nowTHAT is what an owner/manager should do, right? He does it with a flair and does not insult the server person or the kitchen staff for making a mistake, he knows they are human, as are you.. All in all, I don't want you to go there for Sunday brunch, because I like NOT having to wait in a long line for 20 minutes to get a table...most Sundays the Sunday brunch is slow until 1 pm. So go late, or don't complain if the owner comes out and asks me to go inside, (crippled as I am, it takes 3 minutes for me to get to my table). Just come and enjoy one of the truly fine and caring good to excellent restaurants outside of the Boston buzz. It's a gem, enjoy it! Now, if you want, you can just get a drink there at 2:30 on a weekday afternoon, and probably they will serve you a "sampler" of what their appetizers are for that evening...so you don't just drink and drive. Be good to these good people, they even called me on the phone when I left my credit card on the table after paying my bill.. yes, they returned it the same day. These are good people doing good restaurant work, and their server people fully deserve a 20% tip. read more

I'm sorry to say this place has gone down hill. When it's a late night, there's bar bites available even on a Sunday. The servers are kind and hospitable. But there's something about the cleaning fluid or some sort of liquid that's used to quickly wipe down counters that has a putrid odor that can ruin a meal. My last visit I got sick because there was a VERY strong scent of stale perfume or cologne permeating with another odor. I couldn't bare to eat. What can I say about Crossroads? A great spot for the whole family to enjoy. From their bar with several TVs for the Patriots, to their dining room which is very intimate in it's atmosphere. Their prime rib is outstanding, their drinks are always cold. My personal favorite is their corn chowder. Want something lighter? Their quesadillas will definitely hit the spot. An extremely friendly bar staff that will definitely make you some of the best drinks in the area. Their appetizers are great for a quick bite. Crossroads Cafe is a solid 4 star restaurant and probably the best place to eat in Acton. With Scupper Jacks closing this has become very apparent; if you aren't there by 5:30 on the weekend you will be waiting 30-60 minutes for a table in their small, cramped waiting area. If we're going to eat here we usually go on off hours to avoid the wait. I'm a vegetarian so I can't comment first hand on most of the food served here. My dad and hubby both love their steaks. When we went last night, the hubby got their 9 ounce fillet minon which he enjoyed. My dad prefers to get their ridiculous 20+ ounce portions of steak when he goes. The hubby also swears by their bacon cheeseburgers and their seafood options. My mom loves their chicken noodle soup, which is served piping hot in a clear mug. I have been going here since I was pretty young and their menu really hasn't changed much. Their vegetarian selection is pretty small, but I like their options. Their starter salads are fresh, and their Caesar salad can be served with or without anchovies. I often get their bruschetta appetizer as my meal. I have fantasies about their bruschetta, it is so damn good. I was a little disappointed on our last visit as it was a little overcooked, but that was a fluke. Their french onion soup (yes I know, not technically vegetarian) is the standard by which I judge all other french onion soups. It is probably my favorite anywhere. I don't know if that's because it's exceptionally better or if it's because I tried it for the first time here when I was about 14. They have vegetable fajitas with all the fixings, which are pretty tasty despite the fact that this is an American restaurant. Their eggplant parm is also a tasty option when I'm in the mood for some Italian. Tips: + Avoid the wine specials listed on the tables (they are expensive and small portions) and order wine off of their bar menu which is posted above the bar and viewable above the table. For like $7 you get a giant glass of wine poured right to the top. You won't be able to do any fancy swishing or sniffing, but you will get buzzed for very little money. + Their desserts options are usually pretty amazing so save room. Last time we went we ordered a brownie sundae that was awesome. They also have great strawberry shortcake and chocolate lava cake, as well as a rotating specials list. + If you're lucky enough to score a booth, they are nice and intimate feeling like you're dining alone. The one big negative of this place is the waiting area is terrible so if you get stuck waiting for a table, it's a bit unpleasant. I usually order one of the aforementioned goblets of wine from the bar to make this wait a little better. They also call names over a loudspeaker so that people outside or in the bar can hear their name. It kinda ruins the ambiance a little bit to hear "Mary, party of 5" every 10 minutes or so while you're eating dinner. read more

I've been going to this place for about 12 years, including 6-7 when I worked in Nagog Park and we would convene frequent after-work "meetings" there. I've never had a bad meal there, and all of the help are friendly, quick, and supremely professional, including some of the best bartenders I've ever been around. It's also always clean, which is an accomplishment given the volume of peanuts being shelled and eaten in the bar area. This is a great place to stop for a beer and a sandwich, or a more substantial meal. It's a good, solid, local pub and restaurant, and clearly a well-run establishment. I have to say I'm a little biased, having waitressed here part time 2 summers (and also at the now-defunct sister restaurant, J&Bs, in Townsend). Haven't been back since about 2001, but my tried and true favorites were still as good. This place is good to go with a group--they've got large tables and have the kind of "american" menu that will please almost everyone. Tim enjoyed his burrito and I my french dip. They've got some really great entrees and changing specials, too. We wanted something a little less involved because I insisted on getting the boneless buffalo chicken appetizer--these are the first meat I ate when I quit being vegetarian! yummmm Cool atmosphere--sort of industrial/antique with nice old black & white photos. Booths have high walls around them which are good for keeping the noise down. Bar is always hopping which gives it a fun air. Prices are totally fair. If making their customers feel unwelcomed is their goal, then they are doing a great job. After being cold-shouldered at the door by more than one person, we were finally shuffled off to a small(tiny) side table for two. When asked if we could move to a real table(booth) again with the sigh's and eye-rolling. WTF is there problem. They weren't even busy... and the waitress also gave us the stink-eye!! After that welcome, I refused to eat there, and we left. Never again! There food is only average, and the prices are on the high side. There is a Yin and a Yang associated with Crossroads Cafe. The Yin (if that's the not so good part) is that there is always a long wait if you try to go there on a Friday or a weekend. Not too surprising, but the nuisance is that there is very little room to wait the 35-50 minutes that seems standard. It can get very cramped and annoying as people come and go from the restaurant. Think waiting in a crowded subway car, almost. We had the kids with us so I actually opted to wait in the car for 3/4 of the estimated time. Once we got past that part we were seated in a booth for 4 that had very high walls on 3 sides that gave it a surprisingly private feel for being in the middle of the restaurant. The drinks were priced well and the menu has lots of variety for any taste. I opted for the Lobster chowder and the Half rack of pork ribs. The chowder was heavy in chowder and a bit light on lobster but it was very tasty and did have some good chunks of the meat in there. The ribs were meaty and well cooked. We walked past a server who had the prime rib on the tray and I swear it would feed 3 adults. Everyone enjoyed the food. Family of 4, one app, 4 adult drinks with food + tip for our pleasant and helpful server Mike came to about $115. It approaches a 5 star from me because the food surpassed our expectations, the entire staff was great and the pricing was good. The outside does not match the interior! I mean that in a good way, though. The Crossroads is in a Gawdawful 80's style strip mall. Inside its all dark wood, and old-timey. I ate at the Bar. I was dying for some nachos, so I ordered them, and received a huge plate, which I proceeded to murder, much to the delight of the bartender. They weren't they best ever, but they were good. I paired the Nachos with a beer, and was thrilled to discover they have Tetley's English Ale on tap! Snap! Back to the bartender. He was really nice, and had this air of calm confidence.
